MOULTON -- Funeral for Ina Louise Steadman, 83, of Moulton will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Mike Nix and Marlon Rutherford officiating.

Burial will be in Thompson Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Steadman died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Conway Medical Center in Conway, Ark. She was born Nov. 26, 1917, in Lawrence County, to George Washington Thompson and Celia Ann Wilson Thompson. She was a Cherokee Indian and was retired as a seamstress and a hairdresser. She was a member of Loosier Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Elzina Rutherford of Town Creek; one sister, Ola Mae Massey of Mount Hope; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alex Speake, Gordon Ray, J.D. Steadman, Brad Massey, Brent Ross Mizell and Brad Bradford.

Virginia Ferguson Vest
85, homemaker

Funeral for Virginia Ferguson Vest, 85, of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitchell Williams officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vest died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, in Birmingham. She was born Oct. 29, 1915, in Lincoln County, Tenn., to Lon L. Ferguson and Emma Minor Ferguson. She was a homemaker and a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was the widow of George Wesley Vest.

Survivors include three nephews, Ken Kennedy and Doug Kennedy, both of Mobile, and Bill Powell of Decatur; and four nieces, Janet Dominick of Tuscaloosa, Peggy Kennedy of Birmingham, Pat Murrell of Athens and Kathryn Powell of Decatur.

Ella Ree Coffman
68, homemaker
ATHENS -- Funeral for Ella Ree Coffman, 68, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Don Osborn and Steve Ferguson officiating.

Burial will be in Temperance Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Coffman died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born June 10, 1933, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Namon Coffman and the sister of the late Leroy Lovell.

Survivors include six daughters, Dorothy Pack and Eva Barnes, both of Athens, Nadine Eaves, Linda Eaves and Evelyn Pack, all of Elkmont, and Francis Davis of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; one brother, Brady Lovell of Lavergne, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Robert Coffman, Charlie Coffman, Doyce Waddell, Gary Lovell, Frankie Waddell, Robert Pack, Gary Coffman and William Tidwell.

Jennifer Janice Coulter
45, transportation dispatcher

Funeral for Jennifer Janice Coulter, 45, of North Charleston, S.C., formerly of Decatur, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeri Hunt and Mark Posey officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Coulter died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, in Charleston, S.C. She was born Jan. 28, 1956, in San Diego to Harry and Charlotte Lowber. She was an intermodal transportation dispatcher and attended Life Christian Assembly in Charleston.

Survivors include three daughters, Heather Birdwell of Huntsville, Leslie Brunt of Ladon, S.C., and Andra Giles of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; two stepsons, Jason Hartzell and Josh Hartzell, both of West Ashley, S.C.; her mother of Priceville; two brothers, Tommy Coulter of Olive Branch, Miss., and Brad Lowber of Madison; one grandmother, Mavine Roberts of Madison; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Johnson, Kenny Birdwell, Keith Smith, Chester Grisham, Bill Couch and Daryl Smith.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or a favorite charity.

Mary Pitts Taylor Underwood McDonald
88, homemaker

Funeral for Mary Pitts Taylor Underwood McDonald, 88, of Decatur will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Mike King officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. McDonald died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Jan. 9, 1913, in Kelso, Tenn., to Clarence Wilson Taylor Sr. and Clyta Pitts Taylor. She attended David Lipscomb College, now Lipscomb University, where she met and married the late Rufus D. Underwood Sr. She was an avid supporter of the university. She was a homemaker and a member of Grant Street Church of Christ. She was the mother of the late Stephen Alan Underwood and the sister of the late Clarence Wilson Taylor Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Grady B. McDonald; two sons, Rufus D. Underwood Jr. of Shreveport, La., and Keith Taylor Underwood; one daughter, Jan Underwood Bradley of Fort Worth, Texas; two stepdaughters Joyce Sellers of Clanton and Gayle Phillips of Decatur; one brother, John A. Taylor of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David W. Underwood, Winford Kent, Eddie Lynn Anderson, Harold C. Jeffers, Tony Stout, T.E. Putnam Jr., Charles Riley and Gene Zahnd.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Mrs. Overton died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at her home. She was born July 29, 1924, in Birmingham to John L. Isgett and Mary Dial Isgett. She was retired as a general laborer.

Survivors include her husband, J.L. Overton Sr.; one daughter, Nan Slaven of Cullman; two stepsons, Jim Overton and John Overton, both of Cullman; one stepdaughter, Judy Kurry of Dallas; one brother, John L. Isgett Jr. of Lugoff, S.C.; one sister, Mary Ogburn of Birmingham; three grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren.

Freida Hart Wooten

Mrs. Wooten died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at her home. She was born June 12, 1927, in Morgan County to Charles Baxter Hart and Lula Edna Maples Hart. She was a homemaker, a member of First United Methodist Church and lived most of her life in Franklin County. She was the widow of Ross N. Wooten Sr.

Survivors include one son, Ross N. Wooten Jr. of Florence; one daughter, Lynda Seal of Decatur; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lance Seay, Jim Hester, Eric Hester, Harold Lott, Leslie Sturdivant, Billy Sturdivant and Roger Wooten.

Mrs. Borden died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Lawrence County to Jim Hodges and Claudia Glasco Hodges. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Enoch Borden; one son, Jimmy Hagood of Town Creek; one stepson, R.C. Borden of Town Creek; one brother, Albert Hodges of Trinity; five sisters, Mattie Pearson and Josephine Fuller, both of Moulton, Viola Sutton of Trinity, Gladys Fuller of Gardendale and Christine Sutton of Huntsville; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three step-grandchildren.

The funeral was Saturday at Shelton Funeral Home.

Mrs. DeVaney died Friday, July 6, 2001, at The Lodges in Athens. She was born Jan. 14, 1913, in Franklin County to William H. McKinney and Doskey Strickland McKinney. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one sister, Reba Taylor of Red Bay; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Virgil S. Gully Jr.
68, retired mechanical engineer

HARTSELLE -- Memorial service for Virgil S. Gully Jr., 68, of Massey will be today at 2 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Blackmon officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Gully died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Woodland Medical Center. He was born March 13, 1933, in DeKalb, Miss., to Virgil Samuel Gully Sr. and Daisy Dillon Hopper Gully. He retired as a mechanical engineer and attended St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and served 17 years in the Hartselle unit of the Alabama Army National Guard.

Survivors include one son, Sam Gully of Hartselle; one daughter, Cheryl Gully Slaughter of Madison; one brother, Robert Mitchell Gully of Chatom; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.

Joan Hill
65, Salvation Army secretary

Funeral for Joan Hill, 65, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Major William Williford officiating.

Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hill died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born May 7, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Ray E. Glime and Velda Lea Wright Glime. She was league secretary for the Salvation Army and had worked as a mental health employee at Lurleen B. Wallace Developmental Center.

Survivors include three sons, Gordon Lee Kohl of Utah, Randy Kohl of Nevada and Scott Douglas Hill of Decatur; three daughters, Karla Jo Kohl of Decatur, Susan Lanette Kohl Edwards of Iowa and Danielle Cagle of Athens; two stepsons, Dougie Arnold Hill and Dale Hill, both of Hillsboro; one sister, Lois Walker of Iowa; and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Cagle, Curtis Mitchell, Greg Brakeman, Buddy Montgomery, Michael Bennefield and Cameron Cagle.
