Raymond E. Sherrill
81, retired chief of aircraft maintenance

Funeral for Raymond E. Sherrill, 81, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Sherrill died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Lawrence County to Sherman Sherrill and Susie Norwood Sherrill. He served in World War II as a C-47 crew chief and later flew crop dusters throughout the Tennessee Valley. He worked for Chemstrand, now Solutia, and retired as chief of maintenance for Monsanto.

Survivors include his wife, Tibby Sherrill; and one son, Michael Sherrill of Santa Cruz, Calif.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Margarett Ann Torrence
58, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Margarett Ann Torrence, 58, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray McElhaney officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Torrence died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Feb. 13, 1943, in Printiss County, Miss., to Clarence Basden and Verda Basden. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tanner. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny Torrence; one son, Greg Torrence of Hazel Green ; one brother, Burton Basden of Athens; one sister, Shirley Gallant of Tanner; and four grandchildren.

Jimmy Edward Turner Sr.
53, truck driver

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Jimmy Edward Turner Sr. of Decatur will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home with Kenneth Smith officiating.

Burial will be Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Turner died Monday, July 23, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 22, 1947, in Cleveland to Auburn Turner and Annie Lou Self Turner. He was a truck driver for Wal-Mart.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Turner; two sons, Jimmy Edward Turner Jr. and Jeffery Blaine Turner, both of Cullman; two stepdaughters, Cindy Tribble and Christy Burnham, both of Decatur; one sister, Patricia Russell of Cullman; and six grandchildren.

Jimmy Dale 'Fuzzy' Barber
64, Delphi employee
Funeral for Jimmy Dale "Fuzzy" Barber, 64, of Priceville will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Smith and the Rev. Toney Annerton officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Barber died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Dec. 1, 1936, in Morgan County to Hubert Barber and Ruby Murphy Barber. A lifelong Priceville resident, he worked at Delphi Automotive Systems and was a member of Point Mallard Parkway Baptist Church. He was the grandfather of the late Blaine McCutcheon.

Survivors include his wife, Bea-trice T. Barber; one son, Jimmy Don Barber of Priceville; one daughter, Pam Morgenthaler of Decatur; two brothers, Joe Barber of Priceville and Wayne Barber of Athens; two sisters, Jane Atchley of Priceville and Sandra Garner of Decatur; and four grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Decatur General Hospital Oncology Center.

John Scott Beddingfield

ATHENS -- Funeral for John Scott Beddingfield, 27, of Athens will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Don Osborne officiating.

Burial will be in Myers Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Beddingfield died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. He was born Sept. 18, 1973, in Morgan County to Macon Beddingfield and Mildred Green haw Beddingfield. He was a member of New Hope Church of Christ.

Survivors include his mother of Athens; six brothers, Dwight Beddingfield, Steve Beddingfield, Mark Beddingfield and Rusty Beddingfield, all of Athens, Chris Beddingfield of Elkmont and Stan Beddingfield of Montgomery; and one sister, Susan Beddingfield Turner of Lexington.

Vernon 'Rip' Bowling
70, boilermaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Vernon E. "Rip" Bowling, 70, of Mount Hope will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery in Leighton. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Bowling died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at his home. He was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Lawrence County to Terrell Bowling and Stella Masterson Bowling. He was a Baptist and was retired as a boilermaker from the Tennessee Valley Authority. He graduated from Hatton High School in 1949 and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include one son, Jeff Bowling of Mount Hope; one brother, Alton O. "Buddy" Bowling of Memphis; one sister, Shalah Terry of Town Creek; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one step-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Edwin Smith, Erwin Smith, Adam Bowling, Allen Morgan, Lewis Masterson, and Chad Bowling.

Billy 'Bill' A. Davis
61, retired service station owner, used car salesman

ATHENS -- Funeral for Billy "Bill" A. Davis, 61, of Athens will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Ray Pettit officiating.

Burial will be in O'Neal Cemetery. The family will receive friends to- night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Davis died Monday, July 23, 2001, at his home. He was born April 27, 1940, in Limestone County to Bill and Odelien Davis. A lifelong resident of Athens, he was the retired owner of Bill's Amoco, U-Haul and Bill's Used Cars. He worked 40 years in the service station business and attended Madison Street Baptist Church in Athens. He was the brother of the late Charles Davis, David Davis and Virginia Davis.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Davis; three sons, Torrey Davis of Madison, Jeremy Stone of Baileyton and Joshua Stone of Nauvoo; one daughter, Jill Stone Green of Hanceville; one sister, Dianne Tucker of Panama City Beach, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Carter, Doug Griffin, J.T. Collins, Tom Sirten, Ed Abernathy, Carlos Black and Sonny Crow.

Pauline C. Havey
80, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Pauline Clemons Havey, 80, of Madison will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. William Sasser officiating.

Burial will be in Shoal Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Havey died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Madison Manor Nursing Home. She was born June 7, 1921, in Morgan County to Jessie Walter Clemons and Cordie Edmonson Clemons. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Kenneth Havey and the sister of the late Hendrix Clemons, Robert Clemons, Walter Clemons, Bertha Clemons Smith and Louise Clemons Acox.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Blankenship and Glenn Blankenship, both of Friendsville, Tenn., and Royce Blankenship of Franklin, Tenn.; one daughter, Sandra Blankenship Whitman of Madison; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Juliet Garrett Peoples
75, homemaker

TANNER -- Funeral for Juliet Garrett Peoples, 75, of Tanner will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Frazier Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Shirley Fletcher officiating.

Burial will be Houston Cemetery in Tanner with Peoples Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Peoples died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born April 13, 1926, in Belle Mina to Porter Garrett and Florence Anderson Garrett. She was a homemaker and a former member of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Mother's Board. She was the widow of Leroy Peoples and the mother of the late Doris Peoples Lyle.

Survivors include five sons, Alexander Peoples of Nashville, Roy Lester Peoples of Huntsville, Alfonzo Peoples of Tanner, Terry Peoples of Madison and Travis Peoples of Savannah, Ga.; six daughters, Annette Peoples Benford and Sandra Peoples Davis, both of Athens, Beverly Peoples Smith, Laura Peoples and Valeria Peoples Bridges, all of Tanner, and Bridgette Peoples Phillips of Madison; two sisters, Lucresia Binford and Emma Johnson, both of Cincinnati; 22 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Men of Frazier CME Church and New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church deacons will be pallbearers.

Sidney Charles Taliaferro Sr.
84, Lawrence County Schools retiree

Funeral for Sidney Charles Taliaferro Sr., 84, of Town Creek will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. William Hart and the Rev. Scotty Hogan officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Town Creek. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Taliaferro died Monday, July 23, 2001, at NHC Healthcare of Moulton. He was born Nov. 19, 1916, in Lawrence County to Charles Clifton Taliaferro and Gertrude Etheredge Taliaferro. He attended Birmingham-Southern College, where he played football. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Town Creek and retired as a bus driver from Lawrence County Schools. He also farmed in Lawrence County. He was the widower of Edna McHugh Taliaferro.

Survivors include one son, Sidney Charles Taliaferro Jr. of Town Creek; one daughter, Rebecca T. Hoover of Decatur; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ervin Nichols, Billy Lee, King Streater, Hoover Reding, Doug Russell, Jeremy Russell and Will Andrews.

Bermeda F. Williams
86, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Bermeda F. Williams, 86, of Athens will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Turner officiating.

Burial will be in Southern Heritage Cemetery at Pelham. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Williams died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at her home. She was born Aug. 19, 1914, in Vincennes, Ind. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Melvin L. Williams.

Survivors include three sons, Donald L. Williams of Decatur and Melvin G. Williams and Morris G. Williams, both of Athens; one brother, Chester L. Todd of Vincennes; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Ovie Lee Green field, 81, of Athens, will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Antioch Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Green field died Wednesday, July 27, 2001, at Athens Convalescent Center. The funeral home will announce complete arrangements.
