Funeral for Bessie Lou Holmes, 84, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with Charles Littrell officiating.

Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Cullman County at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Holmes died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Decatur. She was born Jan. 18, 1908, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., to Alfred Van Buren Holt and Mattie Coker Holt. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, David Holmes of Milton, Fla.; two daughters, Allene Jones and Genevieve Gaines, both of Decatur; one sister, Blanche Self of Springville; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Meveline B. Jones
84, homemaker

Funeral for Meveline B. Jones, 84, of Moulton will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Estus Hardin officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jones died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. She was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Lawrence County to Ernest Beaty and Laura Royer Beaty. She was a lifelong member of Union Grove United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Elbert Frank Jones, and the sister of the late Chester Beaty and Marcel Phillips.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Larry Jones of Selma and Ernest Gary Jones of Moulton; one brother, Wayne Beaty of Decatur; three sisters, Lorene Long of Moulton, Vernell Bolin of Decatur and Iva Lee Lindsey of Athens; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Nettie Long Morrison
88, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Nettie Long Morrison, 88, of Athens will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. James Turner and the Rev. Tim Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Morrison died July 24, 2001, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born Nov. 20, 1912, in Limestone County to Wesley and Mattie Long. She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Nolen Morrison.

Survivors include two sons, Dalton Morrison of Lexington and Doug Morrison of Anderson; two daughters, Patricia A. Osmer of Lexington and Hazel Smith of Columbia Station, Ohio; two sisters, Leona Stanford of Athens and Athalee Cox of Kingston, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Joel Rex 'Honeybee' Smith
68, mill operator

MOULTON -- Funeral for Joel Rex "Honeybee" Smith, 68, of Town Creek will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Hollis Rutherford officiating.

Burial will be in Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Helen Keller Hospital. He was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Lawrence County to Virgil L. Smith and Bertha Burnette Smith, and was retired from Reynolds Metal Co. as a mill operator. He served in the U.S. Army where he was a paratrooper in the 503rd Paratrooper Co. He also was a member of the Hatton Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Widner Smith; one son, Steve Smith of New Orleans; two daughters, Cindy Kelley of Moulton and Mary Joe Letson of Town Creek; his parents, of Hatton; two brothers, Morris Smith of Town Creek and Kenneth Smith of Florida; four sisters, Elaine Clayton of Addison, Lois Whisenant of Russellville, Mildred Lewis of Muscle Shoals and Janice Green of Tuscaloosa; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Tyler Wayne Williams

PRICEVILLE -- Graveside service for infant Tyler Wayne Williams of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Burningtree Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jennie Earwood officiating.

The family will receive friends at Priceville Funeral Home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m..

The infant died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at The University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. He was born June 29, 2001, at UAB.

Survivors include his parents, Michael B. Williams and Bridget B. Williams; one brother, Alexander Blake Williams of Decatur; his grandparents, Judy Fischer of Decatur and Mike Williams and Norma Williams, both of Decatur; and great-grandparents, Richard Toward and Alice Toward, both of Decatur, and Elbert Green and Virginia Green , both of Decatur.

Linda Fay Gothard Conlan
59, Army retiree
ARDMORE -- Funeral for Linda Fay Gothard Conlan, 59, of Ardmore, Tenn., will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Drake officiating.

Burial will be in Stateline Cemetery at Hazel Green . The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Conlan died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at her son's home. She was born Jan. 3, 1942, in Rome, Ga., to George Robert Gothard and Sibyl Louise Sparks Gothard. She was a Baptist, an Army retiree and officiated ballgames in Limestone County.

Survivors include her husband, Wilbert G. Conlan; one son, Jimmy Ray Hambay of Ardmore; two daughters, Sybil Arlene Schlarb of Ardmore, Tenn., and Billie Jean Tucker of Huntsville; her mother, Sibyl Louise Reed of Cash Point, Tenn.; three brothers, Neal Gothard of Gadsden, Bobby Gothard of Decatur and Jerry Gothard of Hollywood; four sisters, Irene Bunn of Toney, Patricia Robinson of Priceville, Virginia Barnette of Ardmore, Tenn., and Betty Armstrong of Brighton, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.

Lhorne Paul Elms

Survivors include three sons, Robie Elms of Kemah, Texas, Tony Elms of Decatur and Carl Elms of Union Mills; two sisters, Dessie Hopper of Forest City, N.C., and Ada Williams of Danieltown, N.C.; and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Green field died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born Aug. 10, 1919, in Limestone County to Edgar and Hellen Pitts. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Church of Christ. She was the widow of Odis Lee Green field and the sister of the late Edd Pitts Jr., Louise Martin and Kathleen Turner.

Survivors include three sisters, Ruth Kelly of Columbus, Ohio, Emma Gatlin of Winter Haven, Fla., and Margie Mansfield of Defiance, Ohio.

Rex Edward Johnson

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Rex Edward Johnson, 44, of Decatur will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Mattox officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at his home. He was born Sept. 17, 1956, in Morgan County to Billy Edward Johnson and Bettie J. Jacobs Johnson. He was self-employed in telecommunications and was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Lewis Johnson; one son, Jacob Edward Johnson of Decatur; his parents of Decatur; and three sisters, Rheda Johnson Brown of Lander, Wyo., and Patty Johnson Dietz and Susan Johnson Walden, both of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Daryl Sandlin, Jimmy Phillips, Roy Brown, Gerald Johnson, Carl Walden, Mark Lewis, Tommy Craig and Tony Lewis.

Jack Miller Jr.
54, Decatur native

Funeral for Jack Miller Jr., 54, of Austin, Texas, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Truth Apostolic Community Church with the Rev. Willie Burgess officiating.

Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Miller died July 20, 2001, in Austin. He was born Feb. 25, 1947, in Decatur to Jack Miller Sr. and Queenester Scott Miller. He was the brother of the late J.C. Burgess.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Jean Orr Miller; one son, Derrick Miller of Decatur; and one brother, the Rev. Willie Burgess of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Mark Burgess, Tim Burgess, Richard McDaniel, Richard Burgess, James Burgess, Ricky Burgess, Mike Burgess and Anthony Burgess.

Turney Ed 'Coach' Morris
65, BellSouth retiree

HARTSELLE -- Memorial service for Turney Ed "Coach" Morris, 65, of Birmingham will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Jefferson Memorial East Funeral Home in Trussville.

Mr. Morris died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. He was born July 16, 1926, in Morgan County to Turney Scott Morris and Johnnie Mae Morris Heaslett. He was a 1954 graduate of Phillips High School and attended Auburn University. He retired from BellSouth as a telephone installer. He loved fishing and was active in youth sports, serving as a coach for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Miskelley Morris; one son, Fred Scott Morris of Florence; two daughters, Susan Reinsch and Kelly Morris; and one grandson.

Catherine 'Jenny' Smith
78, lingerie packer

MOULTON -- Funeral for Catherine "Jenny" Smith, 78, of Town Creek was to be today at 11 a.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Willie Williams officiating.

Burial was to be in Blackground Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at her home. She was born Feb. 17, 1923, in Lawrence County to Jess Mayes and Susie Scoggins Whitlock. She was retired from G.C. Lingerie as a packer. She was the widow of Huey Smith.

Survivors include six sons, Roy "Ike" Stanley of Clearwater, Fla., Jerry "Jabbo" Smith and Ronnie Smith, both of Lynville, Tenn., James Ray "Gus" Smith and Michael Smith, both of Town Creek, and Herschell Smith of Live Oak, Fla.; three daughters, Patsy Green of Muscle Shoals, Wanda Smith of Town Creek and Martha Knight of Moulton; 28 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be J.D. Story, Jeff Nicholson, David Brumley, Roger Halbrooks, Frank Thaxton and Daniel Williams.
