William Don 'Donnie' Terry
55, service station manager

MOULTON -- Graveside service for William Don "Donnie" Terry, 55, of Sheffield will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Jones Chapel Cemetery in Moulton with full military honors and Charles Terry officiating.

Mr. Terry died April 18, 2001, in Birmingham. He was born March 27, 1946, in Lawrence County, to Gradon I. Terry and Mary B. Terry. He was a service station manager and a U.S Army veteran of Vietnam, where the Army awarded him two Bronze Stars, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam National Defense Service Medal. He was the father of the late Mike Terry.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin Terry and Donnie Terry, both of Birmingham; three brothers, Charles Terry of Lacey's Spring, Carl Terry of Tuscumbia and Gordon Terry of Nitrate City; four sisters, Carole Hall of Arab, Linda Sue Collier of Muscle Shoals, Anita Reynolds of Nitrate City and Marilyn Montgomery of Moulton; and four grandchildren.

Jimmy Williams
54, retired police dispatcher

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Jimmy Williams, 54, of Falkville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pine Street Baptist Church in Falkville with the Rev. Roger Ammons, the Rev. Freddie Childs, the Rev. Gary Dutton and the Rev. Milton Garrison officiating.

Burial will be in Falkville City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Williams died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at home. He was born Jan. 16, 1947, in Morgan County. He was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church, a retired Hartselle Police Department dispatcher and a volunteer for Falkville Fire Department. He was brother of the late John Paul Williams and grandson of the late Dolly Gibson.

Survivors include his father, Roy Williams of Hartselle; his mother, Sarah Gibson Widner of Falkville; two brothers, Charles Williams of Falkville and Sherrill Williams of Ripley, Tenn.; one sister, Alice Dutton of Falkville; and his grandfather, E.C. Gibson of Falkville.

Members of the Falkville Fire Department will be pallbearers.

Thomas R. Counts
84, Democratic Party worker
Thomas R. "Russell" Counts of Decatur, a long-time Democratic Party worker, land developer and volunteer labor organizer is dead.

Funeral for Mr. Counts, 84, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Morgan County Probate Judge Bobby Day and the Rev. Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Counts died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center in Moulton. He was born Jan. 24,1917, in Lawrence County to Thomas W. Counts and Ola Fretwell Counts. He was a retiree of Goodyear Mills, now Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. He developed Count Mallard Estates in Decatur and several developments near Smith Lake in Cullman County. He was instrumental in organizing United Textile Workers Local No. 88 at Goodyear. He was president of the union before retiring. He was founding member and long-time president of Decatur Labor Council, now a part of North Alabama Area Labor Council. He was a former volunteer labor organizer for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and Textile Workers. He was in Memphis helping organize a mostly black group of sanitation workers the day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was fatally shot. He was a life-long Democrat who was active in local, state and national politics. He was a long-time member of the Morgan County Democratic Committee and Executive Board and a member of the Morgan County Democratic Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mossie Vines Counts; two daughters, Peggy Holsonback and Judy Counts, both of Decatur; one brother, Eugene Counts of Decatur; one sister, Syble Zills of Landersville; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry Counts, Gary Counts, Hershel Bishop, Scotty Bishop, Ronnie Bishop and Rand Key.

Ernestine K. Ling
92, retired cosmetology teacher

Graveside service for Ernestine K. Ling, 92, of Decatur will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. David Rollins officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Ling died Friday, July 27, 2001, at National Healthcare Center in Moulton. She was born Sept. 24, 1908, in Birmingham to Henry Ernest Kinsolving and Allie Drew Kinsolving. She attended Vanderbilt University. She and her mother were in business at Rainey's Beauty shops in Decatur and surrounding towns and at Rainey's Beauty Academy in Decatur for about 50 years. She was a cosmetologist at Rainey's Beauty Academy before retiring. She served for years as president of the National Cosmetology Association and was active in Decatur civic affairs. She was organist at Westminster Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years.

Survivors include three cousins, Walter Kinsolving of Ann Arbor, Mich., James Kinsolving of Decatur and Ted Drew of Richmond, Ky.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Turney Ed 'Coach' Morris
65, BellSouth retiree

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Turney Ed "Coach" Morris, 65, of Birmingham and formerly of Morgan County, will be today at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in Key Cemetery in Morgan County. The family will receive friends for an hour before the service.

Mr. Morris died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham. He was born July 16, 1936, in Morgan County to Turney Scott Morris and Johnnie Mae Morris Heaslett. He was a 1954 graduate of Phillips High School and attended Auburn University. He retired from BellSouth as a telephone installer. He enjoyed fishing and was active in youth sports, serving as a coach for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Muskelley Morris; one son, Fred Scott Morris of Florence; two daughters, Susan Reinsch and Kelly Morris; and one grandson.

Jimmy B. Walker
58, aerospace engineer

ATHENS -- Funeral for Jimmy B. Walker, 58, of Athens will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Carl Witty and Robert Fudge officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at McConnell Funeral Home.

Mr. Walker died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. He was born July 19, 1943, in Roanoke to James Burl Walker and Minnie Rozelle Bowen Walker. He was an aerospace engineer at Redstone Arsenal in the Tactical Army Missile Defense Program.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Walker; one son, Britt Walker of Athens; one daughter, Cynthia Walker of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two brothers, Ben F. Walker of Marietta, Ga., and William W. Walker of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and two sisters, Jettie Powell of Tallahassee, Fla., and Nell Darroch of Arlington, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Marshall, Jeff Alexander, Joe Cannon, Rager Branch, Jimmy Wade Wales and Billy Wayne Young.

Daniel W. Wren
73, U.S. Army 1st sergeant, retired

Memorial service for Daniel W. Wren, 73, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Bicentennial Post Chapel at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville with the Rev. William Humphries officiating and Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 5 at his home at 1615 Eighth Street S.W.

Mr. Wren died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at his home. He was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Holden, W.Va., to Roy S. Wren and Ora Robert Wren. He lived in Chester, S.C., before joining the military in 1946. His overseas tours included Tule, Green land, in 1956 and Germany from 1967 to 1970, where he was a 1st sergeant in Artillery B Battery of the Pershing Missile Division. He served in Korea from 1972 to 1973. He retired at Fort Sill, Okla., in 1976 after 26 years in the Army.

After moving to Decatur in 1976, he was a civil service employee at Redstone Arsenal until 1990 with the U.S. Army Ordnance Missile and Munitions Center and School, where he helped rewrite the soldier's manual for testing and evaluation. Beginning in 1993, he worked for Murray Guard Co. in Decatur at Wolverine Tube, 3M Co. and Boeing Co. until April 2000. He was the vice president of the North Alabama Chapter of the National Association for Uniformed Services for military retirees.

Survivors include his wife, Mary H. Parrott Wren; two sons, Danny Wren and Larry Wren, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; four daughters, Anita D. Green , Debra K. Hubbert and Shirley A. Bodine, all of Decatur and Rita S. Black of Killen; one brother, John Carpenter of Atlanta; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the North Alabama Chapter of NAUS, P.O. Box 8290, Redstone Arsenal, AL 35808-8290; the Committee on Church Cooperation; or Hospice of the Valley.

James Odis Green
78, Southern Baptist minister

ATTALLA -- Funeral for James Odis Green , 78, of Attalla will be today at 2 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Thorton officiating and Morgan Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Williams Cemetery in Calhoun County.

Mr. Green died at home Friday, July 27, 2001. He was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Jacksonville. He was best known as a pastor of 47 years at churches in Calhoun, Etowah and Tallapossa counties. He attended Howard College, now Samford University, and Grace Bible College. He was a master carpenter and cabinetmaker. His work included homebuilding, commercial cabinetry, hospital furniture, displays and wooden toys. He served in the Pacific during World War II as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Evylon Creswell Green ; one daughter, Annette Green Philpo't, executive director of MainStreet of Decatur; one son, Danny Paul Green of Mobile; and two granddaughters.

William A. 'Wild Bill' McMurry
58, plumbing company employee

Funeral for William A. "Wild Bill" McMurry, 58, of Gary, Ind., and formerly of Decatur, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. McMurry died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Gary, Ind. He was born June 26, 1943, in Decatur to William McMurry and Henryetta Seamons McMurry. He worked for AAA Plumbing and Hessville Plumbing, both in Hammond, Ind. He enjoyed playing music.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; three daughters, Kathy Blankenship of Decatur, Michelle Lynn Griffith of Athens, and Melissa Joy Matthews of Schererville, Ind.; three step children, Greg Wilson, Kevin Wilson and Tammy Cannon, all of Gary, Ind.; two brothers, Robert McMurry of Demotte, Ind., and Wayne McMurry of Gary, Ind.; two sisters, Mary Strickland of East Chicago, Ind., and Vicky Ledbetter of Gary, Ind.; and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the family.

Velma Gay
85, retired farmer
TRINITY -- Funeral for Velma Gay, 85, of Hillsboro will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Rogers and the Rev. Gerald Sherrill officiating.

Burial will be in Raper Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the service.

Mrs. Gay died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Joyce Cottingham.

She was born May 15, 1916, in Cullman to Wesley Knighten and Tilda Young Knighten. She was a retired farmer and a member of Wheeler United Pentecostal Church. She was the widow of Louie P. Gay and the mother of the late Betty Harville.

Survivors include seven sons, J.D. Gay and Allen Gay, both of Hillsboro, Howard Gay of Hohenwald, Tenn., Bill Gay, Jack Gay and Garland Gay, all of Decatur, and J.B. Gay of Trinity; five daughters, Carolyn Cowart, Archie Gillespie and Mary Cowart, all of Decatur, and Joyce Cottingham and Charlene Lindley, both of Trinity; 50 grandchildren; and 59 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Cottingham, Joseph Cottingham, James Gay, Justin Gay, Billy Cagle and Chris Sams.

Barbara Bowers Green e
67, retired U.S. Army material release specialist

ATHENS -- Funeral for Barbara Bowers Green e, 67, of Huntsville, formerly of Athens, will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Jimmy Clark officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Green e died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Crestwood Medical Center. She was born Dec. 27, 1933, in Madison County to Robert Bruce Bowers and Lucy Elizabeth Whitworth Bowers.

She graduated from Athens High School in 1951 and Athens State College in 1979 with a bachelor of arts degree in math. She was a retired material release specialist in the Missile Intelligence Command Department of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include one son, David Green e of Athens; one daughter, Billie Green e of Huntsville; three sisters, Sue Hogan of Elkmont, and Sylvia Bowers and Billie Martin, both of Athens; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Martin, Mark Hogan, Kenneth Hogan, William Whitworth, Robert L. McWilliams and Bryan Looney.

Jewell Evie May Johnston
92, homemaker

COLUMBIA, La. -- Funeral for Jewell Evie May Johnston, 92, of Athens, formerly of Columbia, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Columbia with the Rev. Charles Floyd Jr. and the Rev. Pam Roy officiating.

Burial will be in Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson with Riser & Son Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends two hours before the service at the church.

Mrs. Johnston died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Limestone Lodge. She was born March 25, 1909, in Chatham, La., to Judge Berry May and Rebecca Viola Jordan May. She was a homemaker. The widow of Lonnie J. Johnston, she was the sister of the late Irene May Mack, Hazel May Chatham, Lloyd May and Travis May.

Survivors include two sons, James E. Johnston of Athens and Roy J. Johnston of Sugarland, Texas; one sister, Myrtle May Lisenby of Pollock, La.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Adam Johnston, Aaron Johnston, Daniel P. Stagg Jr., Charles Floyd Sr., Carey Mack and Jay Gore.
