NEWBERN, Tenn. -- Funeral for Gladys Newbill McDearmon, 93, of Newbern will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. George Butler officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. McDearmon died today, Aug. 3, 2001, in Newbern at the home of a daughter. She was born Sept. 15, 1907, in Dyersburg, Tenn., to Arthur H. Newbill and Mary Parker Newbill. She was a homemaker and a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was the widow of Edward McDearmon and the mother of the late Johnnie Ralph McDearmon.

Survivors include two sons, Arthur Edward McDearmon and William Royce McDearmon, both of Dyersburg; two daughters, Sophia Ann Bingham of Newbern and Mary Margaret Cantrell of Decatur; one sister, Peggy Moncrief of Dyersburg; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steven McDearmon, Greg McDearmon, Randall Morgan, Jerry Seat, Tim Akin and David Maples.

Elizabeth Irene Owens
76, homemaker and former co-owner and operator of Owens Grocery Store

PRICEVILLE -- Funeral for Elizabeth Irene Owens, 76, of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Priceville Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Dugger officiating.

Burial will be in Walnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Owens died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at her home. She was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Decatur to Veto Engle and Fannie Elizabeth Pepper Engle. She was a homemaker and a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church. She was the widow of James E. Owens. She owned and operated Owens Grocery Store with her late husband for more than thirty years.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Owens of Huntsville and Larry Owens of Priceville; one sister, Norma Jean Creel of Decatur; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Owens, Billy Owens, Bobby Maples, Lynn Woodall, Neito Garrison and Jimmy Phillips.

Paul Pressnell
75, retired Wolverine Tube employee

ATHENS -- Funeral for Paul Pressnell, 75, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Patrick and the Rev. Keith Moyers officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Pressnell died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Madison County to Joe and Jossie Pressnell. He was retired from Wolverine Tube and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church. He was the brother of the late Pauline Pressnell and Lucille Yarbrough.

Survivors include his wife, Georgie Pressnell; three daughters, Gayle Reyer, Kathy Sloan and Paula Price , all of Athens; five brothers, Odie Pressnell, Ernest Pressnell, James Pressnell and Glen Pressnell, all of Athens and Charles Pressnell of Flint; three sisters, Mary Fitch of Fayetteville, Tenn., Dot Roberts and Jessie Smith, both of Athens; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Beverly Elaine Schnell
23, homemaker

FARRAGUT, Tenn. -- Memorial service for Beverly Elaine Schnell, 23, of Knoxville and formerly of Florida will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Click Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Mrs. Schnell died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Park West Hospital. She was born Feb. 22, 1978, in Lantana, Fla., to Charles Carter and Dorothy Anderson Carter. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Shawn Schnell; two sons, Nathaniel Schnell and Cameron Schnell, both of Knoxville; four brothers, including one from Decatur; two sisters; and her parents.

Memorials may be made to the East Tennessee Children's Hospital, 2018 Clinch Ave., Knoxville, TN 37916.

Edward Paul Crovo Sr.
81, retired Army major

Memorial service for Edward Paul Crovo Sr., 81, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with Kevin Crovo officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Mr. Crovo died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born June 2, 1920, in Boston to John Crovo and Teresa Garibotto Crovo. He was retired from the U.S. Army as a major and received a battlefield commission in World War II. Mr. Crovo was an artillery and rocketry instructor at Redstone Arsenal. He was the widower of Grace Jones Crovo.

Survivors include two sons, Edward Crovo Jr. of Houston, Texas, and Douglas Kevin Crovo of Homewood; one daughter, Kim Ann Ploussard of Decatur; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Jerry Davis Sr.
53, bricklayer

TRINITY -- Funeral for Jerry Davis Sr., 53, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Claborn and the Rev. Mitch Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Smyrna Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Davis died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at his sister's home in Decatur. He was born Feb. 1, 1948, in Lawrence County to Eugene Davis and Ora Lee Davis. He was a bricklayer, golfer and pool player.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Davis Jr. of Trinity; four brothers, Willard Davis, Samuel Davis and Nathaniel Davis, all of Hillsboro, and Roger Davis of Hartselle; two sisters, Ora Dean Letson and Joyce Brown, both of Decatur; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Davis, Kevin Tolbert, David Cowart, Jimmy Letson, Patrick Davis and Bobby Lee Terry.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Frances Abbott Etheredge
54, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Frances Abbott Etheredge, 54, of Town Creek will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Burks officiating.

Mrs. Etheredge died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at her home. She was born Aug. 25, 1946, in Lawrence County to Dewrell Abbott and Clara Smith Abbott. She was a homemaker and the widow of Lyndon Etheredge. She was a member of New Beginnings Church in Moulton.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff Etheredge and Ronnie Etheredge, both of Town Creek; one brother, Larry Abbott of Moulton; one sister, Jean Hood of Moulton; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Turner, R.B. Abbott, David Etheredge, Tutor Abbott, Ardell Abbott and Benny Abbott.

Minnie Viola Jackson
91, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Minnie Viola Jackson, 91, of Rogersville will be today at 11 a.m. at Romine Church of Christ with Frederick Clemmons officiating.

Burial will be in Hurricane Cemetery in Rogersville with Spry Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Jackson died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Jan. 14, 1910, in Lauderdale County to Bea Gibson and Julia Gibson. She was a homemaker and a member of Romine Church of Christ. The widow of Jesse Jackson, she was the mother of the late Richard Jackson and sister of the late Willie Gibson, Louis Gibson, Daniel Gibson and Evalena England.

Survivors include one daughter, Rachel Camps of Rogersville.

Earl C. James
71, retired sheet metal worker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Earl C. James, 71, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Wilson, the Rev. Jack Bailey and the Rev. Rusty Asble officiating.

Burial will be in Forrest Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. James died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born May 24, 1930, in Morgan County to Judson Earl James and Emma Cleo Sandlin James. He was retired from NASA as a sheet metal worker after 30 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hartselle. He was the brother of the late Bobby James and Billy James.

Survivors include his wife, Reba Williams James; one son, David James of Hartselle; one brother, Euel James of Hartselle; two sisters, Shirley Thompson of Hartselle and Sarah Dotson of Decatur; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Allen Dotson, Danny James, Greg James, Ken James, Darryl Sandlin and Tim Thompson.

Nancy Jo Sims Lindsey
59, business partner

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Nancy Jo Sims Lindsey, 59, of Decatur will be Sunday at First United Methodist Church of Hartselle with the Rev. W.G. Henry, the Rev. Bill Cole and the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Lindsey died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at her home. She was born Sept. 14, 1941, in Tennessee, to George D. "G.D." Daniel Sims and Irene Gurley Sims. She was a member of Hartselle United Methodist Church and worked with her husband in various businesses.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Lindsey Jr.; three daughters, Laura Jo Lindsey and Dinah Dobbs, both of Hartselle, and Meg Harrell of Madison; one brother, George W. Sims of Navarre, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Howard Belser, Darrell Codding, Ike Groover, Charles Hardy, Lee Hartsell, Max Jones, Larry Lemons and Bill Camp.

Beverly Elaine Schnell

Burial will be in Mount Tabor Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Vinzant died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 22, 1946, in Morgan County to Cornis Vinzant and Mary Hughes Vinzant.

Survivors include his mother of Hartselle; four brothers, Wayne Vinzant, Roy Vinzant, Randy Vinzant and Jackie Vinzant, all of Hartselle; one sister, Phyllis Holladay of Roanoke, Va.; and three granddaughters.

Nephews will be pallbearers.
