ATHENS -- Funeral for Carolyn Hunt Meadows, 55, of Toney was to be today at 2 p.m. at Heard Chapel Church with the Rev. Austin Nichols officiating and Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Burial was to be in Faulk Cemetery in Madison County.

Mrs. Meadows died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at her home. She was born Nov. 30, 1945, in Limestone County to Milton Hunt and Ada Hunt. A homemaker, she was the sister of the late Nancy Wray.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Meadows; two sons, Billy Gene Meadows and William Sherman Meadows, both of Toney; three daughters, Tina Flannagan, Linda Gail Meadows and Amanda Reane Butler, all of Toney; two brothers, Thomas Eugene Hunt of Athens and James Hunt of Toney; one sister, Shirley Andrews of Toney; and 10 grandchildren.

Rev. Charles Hurt Murphy Jr.
79, Episcopal priest

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. -- Memorial service for the Rev. Charles Hurt Murphy Jr., 79, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Decatur, was Monday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with McAlister-Smith Funeral Home directing.

Rev. Murphy died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at his home. He was born March 8, 1922, in Montgomery. He was an Episcopal priest, serving parishes in Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina.

For the past 56 years, Rev. Murphy was married to Anne Hunter Murphy. He gained national attention throughout his ministry, conducting more than 300 "teaching missions" in 40 states. He is the author of a book based on his message, "There's no business like God's business," and its success led to him being an author and co-author of three other books. Mrs. Murphy shared as teacher and author on Christian themes as this ministry grew.

Rev. Murphy also was a pianist, singer, composer and entertainer, mainly in Birmingham in the 1950s. He had a radio and television show in Birmingham and recorded for labels such as RCA, Coral and Decca. He went into the ministry when he was 35.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Howard College in 1960 and a Master of Divinity degree from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1963. He was priest associate at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. He was the father of the late Katy Murphy Jones.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, the Rev. Charles H. Murphy III of Pawleys Island, S.C., the Rev. Timothy H. Murphy of Florence and Chris Murphy of Birmingham; one daughter, Donna Murphy Dardani of Easton, Conn.; and 16 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice.

Mamie Kitchens Privett
87, homemaker

Funeral for Mamie Kitchens Privett, 87, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Griffith officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Privett died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at her home. She was born May 13, 1914, in Lawrence County to Samuel Kitchens and Minnie Burt Kitchens. A homemaker, she was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and the widow of Roy Privett.

Survivors include two daughters, Eloise McCurry of Decatur and Patsy Shelton of Trinity; two sisters, Pearlie Montgomery of Trinity and Juanita Clark of Moulton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Walt McCurry, Ronnie Montgomery, Ricky McCurry, Josh McCurry, Will Shelton and Sam Kitchens.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Doris Aldridge Yancey
51, court reporter, medical transcriber

GADSDEN -- Funeral for Doris Aldridge Yancey, 51, of Gadsden will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Cobb officiating.

Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Yancey died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 28, 1949, in Moulton to G.N. Aldridge and Mary Self Aldridge. She was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities. She attended Gadsden State Junior College and Jacksonville State University. She was a court reporter and medical transcriber.

Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Roger Yancey; one son, Clay Yancey of Dallas; one daughter, Laura Cornutt of Gadsden; her mother of Moulton; and one brother, Jim Aldridge of Florence.

Minnie Ryan Bullard
91, retired schoolteacher
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Minnie Ryan Bullard, 91, of Falkville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Son Rise Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Milligan and the Rev. Tony Minter officiating.

Burial will be in Falkville City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bullard died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 21, 1910, in Jefferson County to Elton Jacobs and Lula Edwards Jacobs. A graduate of Jacksonville State University, she was a retired schoolteacher, who taught at Old Battleground School and West Point School. She was a member of Son Rise Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Carl F. Bullard of Falkville; one stepsister, Katie Sue Thomas of Adamsville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Members of Son Rise Baptist Church will be pallbearers.

Larry Joe Cook
58, retired auto body mechanic

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Larry Joe Cook, 58, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Cook died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born April 23, 1943, to Gillard George Cook and Violet Magnolia Terry Cook.

He was retired as an auto body mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Methodist Church. He was the brother of the late Carl Cook.

Survivors include his mother of Falkville; one brother, Billy Harold Cook of Decatur; and one sister, June Cook Barnes of Hartselle.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Spahr, Roger Lacy, Shawn Berryhill, Jock Barnes, Jeremy Barnes and Brian Woeber.

Methel Mae Conner Harrison
83, Decatur General Hospital retiree

Graveside service for Methel Mae Conner Harrison, 83, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Sandra Locke-Godbey officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Shelton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Harrison died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation. She was born March 3, 1918, in Lawrence County to Andrew Thomas and Thurza Slaten Thomas. She was a retired central supply technician at Decatur General Hospital.

Survivors include three sons, Tharon T. Harrison of Town Creek, Robert Franklin Harrison of Decatur and Donald W. Harrison of Madison; two daughters, Anna Paul McClain of Danville and Carolyn Sue Parker of Decatur; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Damion Ashley Reed Heard
18, ironworker

Graveside service Damion Ashley Reed Heard, 18, of Elkmont will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Gatlin Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6 to 9 at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home. The body will be at the cemetery 30 minutes before the service.

Mr. Heard died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, in North Augusta, S.C. He was born Nov. 26, 1982, in Decatur. He attended Ardmore High School, was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church and was an ironworker. His fiancee was Beth Kirby of Moulton.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Jerry and Brenda Heard of Elkmont; his stepfather and mother, Frank E. and Kimberly Reed Baker of Augusta, Ga.; two stepbrothers, Bradley Clem and Brandon Clem, both of Elkmont; and his grandparents, Elmer and Betty Heard of Elkmont and Evelyn McCarley of Decatur.

Al Mitchell Jr.
53, Vietnam veteran

Funeral for Al Mitchell Jr. 53, of Decatur will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Evans officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Mitchell died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in Lansing, Mich. He was born Sept. 12, 1947, in Michigan to Victor A. Mitchell and Maybelle Mitchell. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Parkview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Mitchell; two sons, Timothy Mitchell and Anthony "Tony" Mitchell, both of Decatur; one daughter, Lori Rutledge of Lansing; his parents, of Lansing; and three sisters, Margie Gladding, Doris Click and Noreen White, all of Lansing.

Pallbearers will be Dean Arnold, Don Compton, Steve Lovell, Keith Lovell, Jim Waller and Russ Finch.

Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.

Flora Collier Rogers Voci
Former Parisian employee

Graveside service for Flora Collier Rogers Voci of Decatur will be Saturday at noon at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Cheshire officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Voci died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born in Morgan County to William Thomas Collier and Maggie May Dinsmore Collier. She was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church and a former employee of Parisian Department Store.

Survivors include her husband, A.S. Voci; one son, Don Allen Poole of Decatur; one daughter, Emily Poole Crow of Decatur; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Crow, Jimmy Don Jackson, David Peek, Jimmy Barrett, Irvin White and Jimmy White.

Carl P. Clemons
82, retired Athens employee
ATHENS -- Funeral for Carl P. Clemons, 82, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Craft officiating.

Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Clemons died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at his home. He was born Feb. 18, 1919, in South Pittsburgh, Tenn., to Jesse Clemons and Sarah Louise Clemons.

He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Athens. He retired from the city of Athens Street and Sanitation Department.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Clemons; one son, Larry Clemons of Athens; one sister, Irene Dunn of Woodbury, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Clemons, Larry Clemons, Bradley Austiell, Chad Lovell, Ray Burgett, Raymond Burgett and Travis Austiell.

Audrey White Cowan
80, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Audrey White Cowan, 80, of Moulton will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Hoyt Nelson officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Garden. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cowan died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Heights Hospital in Houston. She was born June 11, 1921, in Lawrence County to John White and Lula Smith White. She was a homemaker and was retired from Marshall Fields & Co. She was the widow of Shelton Cowan and the sister of the late John White Jr.

Survivors include one son, Don Cowan of Moulton; two daughters, Nancy Cowan and Pam Mayes, both of Houston; one brother, Robert White of Moulton; four sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Killen of Florence, Helen Allen of Russellville, Nina Summers and Peggy Masterson, both of Town Creek; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
