Orville Joe 'O.J.' Tanner

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Orville Joe "O.J." Tanner, 60, of Hartselle will be tonight at 7:30 at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Grad Tanner and the Rev. Ron Wilson officiating.

There will be a graveside service at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Charlotte, N.C., on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. with McEwen Funeral Services Inc. officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 7:30 at Peck Funeral Home.

Mr. Tanner died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 1, 1940, in Morgan County to Orville Wright Tanner and Mabel Nettie Landers Tanner. He attended Decatur Baptist Church. He was a self-employed distributor of kitchen and bath cabinets and manager of Tanner Heights Shopping Plaza. He was selected to Who's Who in North Carolina.

Survivors include his wife, Theodora P. Tanner; one son, Joseph Blake Tanner of Hartselle; his mother of Hartselle; three brothers, Billy Charles Tanner and Thomas Jeff Tanner Sr., both of Hartselle, and John Freeman Tanner of Indian Springs; and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Dian Breeding

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Dian Breeding, 49, of Somerville will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Smothers officiating.

Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Breeding died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. She was born May 17, 1952, in Morgan County to J.T. Brewer and Helen Sharp Brewer. She was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church and owner for 18 years of Dian's Day Care in Somerville.

Survivors include her husband, Dan Breeding; two daughters, Tracy Prater of Priceville and Stacey Breeding of Somerville; her parents of Cotaco; one brother, Glenn Brewer of Florida; four sisters, Carol Bader of Wayne, Mich., and Wanda Roberts, Lenny Brewer and Nancy Brewer, all of Cotaco.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Butler, Ron Miller, Brian Bartlett, Michael Bader, William Curbow and Barry Curbow.

Wrangle A. Davis

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Wrangle A. Davis, 66, of Falkville was to be today at 1 p.m. at Falkville City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Davis died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born June 8, 1935, in West Virginia.

Survivors include his wife, Mollie Davis; and one stepson, Jerry Chaney of Muscle Shoals.

Melinda Whitt Lawrence

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Melinda Whitt Lawrence, 44, of Athens will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Athens City Cemetery with Chris Kemp officiating and Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Ms. Lawrence died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born Aug. 3, 1957, in Limestone County to Charles Whitt and Bobbie Whitt. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Shambley Beth Webb; one brother, Charles Whitt Jr. of Athens; two sisters, Barbara Garner of Athens and Birdie Bigham of Ardmore; one half-brother, Charles Jerry Whitt of Virginia; one half-sister, Peggy Slaton of Pulaski, Tenn.; and one grandson.

Jesse Elbert McKee

ATHENS -- Funeral for Jesse Elbert McKee, 90, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Joey Thompson officiating.

Burial was to be at 1 p.m. in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens in Florence.

Mr. McKee died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 2, 1911, in Lauderdale County to R.L. McKee and Alice Favors McKee. He was the retired owner and operator of Alabama Oil Company in Sparta, Tenn. He was a member of the Sparta Civitan Club and Southside Baptist Church in Athens.

Survivors include his wife, Esther Danley McKee; one son, Jerry McKee of Athens; one sister, Euna Belle Springer of Florence; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and great-grandsons were to be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County or to the building fund at Southside Baptist Church in Athens.

James Thomas Whitaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James Thomas Whitaker, 79, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. G. Douglas Ripley officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Whitaker died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 19, 1922, in Madison County to William Drew Whitaker and Mattie R. Whitaker. He was a retired iron worker supervisor and a member of Ironworkers Local Union No. 1 for more than 40 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion and a member of the VFW in Illinois. He was the widower of Helen Lindsey Whitaker and father of the late William Dennis Whitaker.

Survivors include one son, James Lee "Jim" Whitaker of Decatur; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Whitaker, Mike Capuder, Larry Hornbuckle, Eddie Stutts, John Sivley, Ricky Smith, Drew Whitaker and Dean Lindsey.

Billy Ray Daniel

MOULTON -- Funeral for Billy Ray Daniel, 63, of Town Creek will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Okolona Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Pixler and the Rev. Sam Wallace officiating.

Burial will be in Ferguson Cemetery in Town Creek with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Daniel died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at his home. He was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Montgomery County, Tenn., to Fred Daniel and Edna Ladd Daniel. He was retired from Amoco Chemicals and was a member of Okolona Baptist Church, where he was Sunday School superintendent.

Survivors include one son, Steven Ray Daniel of Hatton; two daughters, Beverly Daniel Terry of Town Creek and Felicia Daniel McGee of Center Star; two brothers, Donald Jackson and Charles Jackson, both of Oak Grove, Ky.; one sister, Jenny Taliarico of Oak Grove, Ky.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy Hamilton, Tony Burks, Wayne Witt, Marion Chamness, Craig Byars, Joe Nichols, Kim Nichols and Lee Roy Headrick.

Lee W. Smith

ATHENS -- Funeral for Lee W. Smith, 55, of Athens will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home with Sylvester Malone officiating.

Burial will be in Poplar Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Feb. 23, 1946, in Limestone County to Lewis Smith and Lela Smith Coleman. He was a concrete finisher. He was a member of Tanner Hill Church of Christ. He attended Trinity High School.

Survivors include his wife, Matilda Ratliff Smith; three sons, Darren Smith and Lee W. Smith Jr., both of Athens, and Darrel Smith of Tanner; two daughters, Erina Smith and Trenda Patrick, both of Athens; four brothers, Charley Smith and James Smith, both of Louisville, Ky., Emmitt Smith of Atlanta and Ikee Smith; one half-brother, Ricky Coleman of Athens; his stepfather, Willie Coleman of Athens; six half-sisters, Lula Jackson, Martha Matthews, Dorothy Harris, Mary Ann Malone, Mildred D. Malone and Juanita Malone; and 13 grandchildren.

George Willie 'G.W.' Thatch Sr.

Funeral for George Willie "G.W." Thatch Sr., 47, of Madison will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Mount Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Mooresville with the Rev. James Robinson officiating.

Burial will be in Thatch Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Thatch died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, in Decatur. He was born July 4, 1954, in Limestone County to Willie B. Thatch and Ruth Fuzzell Thatch-Love. He was a trucker and worked at Dunlop Tires Inc. in Madison for 25 years. He was a 1972 graduate of Tanner High School, where he played football. He was a member of Mount Zion CP Church, where he was an elder and was a member of the deacon board, male chorus and sanctuary choir.

Survivors include his wife, Linorise Thatch; two sons, George Thatch Jr. of Athens and Gary Thatch of Mooresville; one daughter, Fawn Savage of Green belt, Md.; two brothers, Calvin Thatch of Mooresville and Travis Love of Triana; four sisters, Mamie Sandifer and Annie Love, both of Madison, Maebelle Thatch of Atlanta and Delois Harper of Decatur; and one grandson.

Pallbearers will be Ernest Love Sr., Willie Love Jr., Craig Love, Jason Harper, James Sandifer Jr., James Love, Marvin Thatch and Andre Foster .

Richard 'Ricky' Fitzgerald White

TUSCALOOSA -- Funeral for Richard "Ricky" Fitzgerald White, 38, of Northport was to be today at 1 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Burchey officiating.

Burial was to be in Herring Cemetery in Massey.

Mr. White died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at his home. He was born Jan. 26, 1963, to Richard White and Virginia White. He was a 1981 graduate of Tuscaloosa Academy. He played basketball at Rhodes College in Memphis, from where he graduated in 1986. He coached basketball at Wiley Academy and Jackson Academy and worked for Associates Financial Corp. He was a basketball referee for the Alabama Independent Schools Association and umpire for Warrior Baseball Association. He was the grandson of the late Deuel White and La La White and Ralph Fitzgerald and Alice Fitzgerald.

Survivors include his parents of Hartselle.

Pallbearers will be Mark Dockery, Tony Wilson, Scott Brenizer, Robert Gartman, John "Stick" Dunnan, Bubba Martens, Charlie Martens, and Hugh Fitzgerald.

Coaches and teams of the Warrior Northport Baseball Association, members of the 1980-81 Tuscaloosa Academy baseball team, and members of Bethel Presbyterian Church will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Warrior Baseball Association of Northport or a favorite charity.

Curtis M. 'Wig' Wigginton

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Curtis M. "Wig" Wigginton, 78, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Harlon Hood and the Rev. Jay Strother officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Wigginton died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at his home. He was born May 15, 1923, in Arkansas to Will Wigginton and Dora Brown Wigginton.

He was a retired Mercury contractor at NASA, where he worked as a truck driver. He worked also as a security guard at Decatur General Hospital. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 4190 in Decatur.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Ruth Cryer Wigginton; two sons, Dwight Wigginton and Anthony Wigginton, both of Hartselle; two daughters, Debbie Wigginton Montoya of Somerville and Patsy Wigginton Kolb of Texas; one brother, Henry Wigginton of Decatur; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

The Men's Sunday school Class at Shiloh Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers.

Cynthia Rebecca Cowley
Funeral for Cynthia Rebecca Cowley, 40, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Westside Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. George Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Gardens with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Miss Cowley died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Nov. 30, 1960, in Morgan County to Leroy Cowley and Willie Mimia Adams Cowley. She was a computer analyst at Alabama A&M University, where she attended school. She was a 1979 graduate of Austin High School. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Survivors include her mother of Decatur; six brothers, Leroy Cowley of Swannee, Ga., and Dwight Cowley, Edward Cowley, Timothy Cowley, Terry Cowley and Michael Cowley, all of Decatur; five sisters, Patricia Ayers, Ernestine Cowley, Willie Ester Cowley, and Joyce Lee Young, all of Decatur, and Altheia Nance of Mount Juliet, Tenn.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Miller, Brandon Cowley, Maurice Smith, Rafer Jones, Ernest Torain, and William Cowley.
