Odis P. Wood

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Odis P. Wood, 68, of Hartselle will be today at 2 p.m. at Fairview Church of God with the Rev. Milan Dekich officiating.

Burial will be in Grange Hall with Peck Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Wood died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born July 16, 1933, in Morgan County to Joseph Vincent Wood and Dora Melinda McDougal. He formerly worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He was a member of Harmony Grace Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Wood; three sons, Glenn Wood, Lynn Wood and Mike Wood, all of Hartselle; two brothers, Kenneth Wood of Danville and Jimmy Wood of Somerville; three sisters, Alice Roper of Trinity, Dorothy Blake of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Marti Downton of Hartselle; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve Wood, Craig Wood, Tim Wood, Kevin Long, Steve Ward and Rex Higgins.

Charles Edward Gunselman

Funeral for Charles Edward Gunselman, 77, of Arab will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Decatur with the Rev. Joseph Culotta officiating.

Graveside service will be in Highland Memorial Gardens at 2:30 p.m. in Bessemer with Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. A rosary will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8.

Mr. Gunselman died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Morningside Assisted Living. He was born Dec. 25, 1923, in Birmingham to John T. Gunselman and Theresa Kress Gunselman. He retired from U.S. Steel after 41 years of service and was employed at Outdoor Power and Key from 1986 to 2000. A World War II veteran, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3407. He was also member of St. Ann Catholic Church and a former member of St. Williams Catholic Church in Guntersville.

Survivors include his son, Charles H. Gunselman of Naperville, Ill.; one daughter, Shirley G. Edwards-Bailey of Decatur; one brother, Robert Gunselman of Birmingham; one sister, Marie Campbell of Irondale; and two granddaughters.

Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

James Hubert Lemons

ARAB -- Funeral for James Hubert Lemons, 90, of Union Grove will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Arab Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Eldridge Criscoe officiating.

Burial will be in Old Canaan Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 5 to 8:30 and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mr. Lemons died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at his home. He was born May 11, 1911, in Morgan County to William Otis Lemons and Nancy Bell Whisenant Lemons. He was a carpenter and a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Culbreath Lemons; two sons, Larry Joe Lemons of Union Grove and James Radford Lemons of Moulton; one brother, Herbert L. Lemons of Union Grove; two sisters, Nadine Selby of Union Grove and Zelma Seagroves of Union Hill; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Roger Looney

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Roger Looney, 48, of Falkville will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Partridge officiating.

Burial will be in Falkville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Looney died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born Nov. 21, 1952, in Decatur to George Travis Looney and Wilma Lorene Quattlebaum Looney. He was a television repair technician. He was the brother of the late Ricky Looney.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Hitt Looney of Falkville; one stepson, Donnie Ray Hardiman Jr.; two stepdaughters, Loretta Mitchell of Moulton and Elaine Belletete of Birmingham; his mother of Falkville; his sister, Valarie Looney Powell of Hartselle; and five step-grandchildren.

Madeline Thomas McElroy

ATHENS -- Funeral for Madeline Thomas McElroy, 71, of Athens is today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Dunn officiating.

Burial is in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. McElroy died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Jan. 30, 1930, in Limestone County to H. W. Thomas and Myrtle Thomas. She was retired from Dixie Type in Birmingham. She was a member of Isom's Chapel United Methodist Church and an Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor for many years.

Survivors include one son, Danny Kelley of Athens; one sister, Arlouine Harrison of Athens; and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to Isom's Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mary Odessa Rhoades

Funeral for Mary Odessa Rhoades, 95, of Falkville is today at 11 a.m. at Gum Pond Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Gum Pond Cemetery with Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

Mrs. Rhoades died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Falkville Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 17, 1906, in Mineral Springs, Ark. to Monroe Martin and Mary Whitten Martin. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Michael Martin of Cullman; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Amy Bobo Allison

Funeral for Amy Bobo Allison, 87, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Kirk Bobo officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home and one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Allison died at home Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001. She was born June 4, 1914, in Morgan County to Joseph Sterling Bobo and Kate Catherine Phillips Bobo. She was the widow of Joe Allison. She was a member of West Hartselle Baptist Church and an employee of Goodyear Mill and Walgreen's Drug Store for many years.

Survivors include one son, Charles E. Ricks of Decatur; two daughters, Mary Louise Fretwell of Milton, Fla., and Shirley Katherine Patterson of Mobile; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Juanita Day, Loretta Hutchenson, Deborah Sasse, Rosa Mason, Heather Bunch and Janna McCann.

Grandsons and nephew will be honorary pallbearers.

Morris Douglas 'Buddy' Baxter

ATHENS -- Funeral for Morris Douglas "Buddy" Baxter, 60, of Lester will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hester Chapel Church of Christ with Richard Durham, Randall Roberson and Ernest Hendrix officiating.

Burial will be in Hester Chapel Cemetery with Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Baxter died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born July 6, 1941, in Giles County, Tenn., to Liburn Baxter and Mable Baxter. He was a member of Hester Chapel Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Lynada Baxter; two daughters, Paula Gatlin of Minor Hill, Tenn., and Julie Moran of Athens; his mother of Minor Hill; seven sisters, Dorothy Hood of Good Springs, Tenn., Robbie Wise of Lester, Hazel Moore and Carolyn Stay, both of Athens, Darlene Adams of Pulaski, Tenn., Faye Chambers of Rogersville and Geneva Thornton of Minor Hill; and four grandchildren.

Nancy Lora Freeman

ALEXANDER CITY -- Funeral for Nancy Lora Freeman, 91, of Alexander City will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. George Ricker officiating.

Burial will be in Hill View Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Freeman died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center of Decatur. She was born Sept. 27, 1909, in Tuscaloosa. A member of Wayside Baptist Church, she was the widow of James A. Freeman and the mother of James L. Freeman. She was a seamstress for Russell Corp.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Waites of Decatur; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Barker Shelton

ATHENS -- Funeral for Ruth Barker Shelton, 84, of Athens will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Jack Baldwin, Warren Glass and George Dudley officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Shelton died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Limestone County to Jim Barker and Mattie Morris Barker. She retired as a schoolteacher for the Limestone County Board of Education after 47 years. She was a member of Market Street Church of Christ, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Association of Retired Persons, Retired Teachers Association and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She was Community Education Woman of the Year and American Legion Auxiliary Post 49 Woman of the Year. She was the widow of Ed Shelton.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen Ruth Duncan and Edria Ann Norton, both of Athens; one sister, Sally Barker Hess of Decatur; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Porter, Butch Elledge, Tim Barksdale, James Landtroop, Joel Glaze, Jimmy Brewer, Justin Black and Timmy Johns.

Zodie Walker

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Zodie Walker, 83, of Cleveland, Tenn., will be Wednesday at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Wester officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at Spry Funeral Home.

Mrs. Walker died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, in Cleveland. She was born June 1, 1918, in Norman, Okla. She was a member and secretary of First United Methodist Church in Athens. She was a retired secretary from Athens State University.

Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Leon Walker of Edinburg, Texas, Julian Keith Walker of Cleveland, Harold Wayne Walker of Athens and James Dale Walker of Mission, Texas; two daughters, Catherine Spaid of St. Louis, Mo., and Jeanne Howell of Conroe, Texas; two sisters, Patricia Reeves and Midge Bremer, both of Robeline, La.; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Frank Smith, Phillip Vaughn, Marion Pepper, Bill Lewis, Danny Barksdale and Ken Pepper.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Alma Wright

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Alma Wright, 78, of Danville will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Creek Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Simmons officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery near Falkville with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Wright died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Falkville Health Care Center. She was born June 23, 1923, in Winston County to David Samuel Hill and Emmie Sellers Hill. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include three sons, Chancey E. Wright of Danville, and A. Wade Wright and Kenneth L. Wright, both of Hartselle; two sisters, Eva Thompson of Hartselle and Beaulah Brown of Double Springs; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Bartlet, Michael Cantrell, Patrick Cantrell, Michael Crowe, Don Allen Wright and Oscar Wright.

Hoyt Dalton Adair
MOULTON -- Graveside service for Hoyt Dalton Adair, 61, of Moulton was to be today at 11 a.m. at Moulton Memory Gardens with Kenneth Johnson and the Rev. Jackie Shelton officiating.

Mr. Adair died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Feb. 9, 1940, in Lawrence County to Arnold Adair and Louise Jacobs Adair. He was the owner of Classical Fruits in Moulton. Mr. Adair was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Air Force and earned a Bronze Star and a Silver Star. He was a member of Aldridge Grove Church of Christ, the Lawrence County Exchange Board, ASCS Committee, Alabama Farmers Market Board, Alabama Farmers Federation Board, Lawrence County Farmers Federation Board, Horticulture Commodity Committee, and the Horticulture Advisory Committee at Auburn University.

Survivors include his wife, Franny Carraway Adair; two sons, Jason Adair and Martin Adair, both of Moulton; one daughter, Natalie-Ann Adair of Moulton; his stepmother, Elizabeth Adair of Moulton; one brother, Gene Adair of Moulton; one sister, Rosemary Brewer of Moulton; and two granddaughters.

Pallbearers were to be Tom Jones, Roger Weatherwax, Randy Jacobs, John Holly, Tim Littrell, Wayne Gentry, Jerry Sivley and Sammy Hawkins.

Memorials may be made to Auburn University's Adair Endowment, Horticulture Department, 101 Funchess Hall, Department of Horticulture, Auburn University, 36849.
