Bernard Loyd Bailey Jr.

ATHENS -- Memorial service for Bernard Loyd Bailey Jr., 54, of Germany will be Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. at Limestone County Veterans Museum and Archives with Spry Funeral Home directing

Burial will be in Germany.

Mr. Bailey died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, in Germany. He was a native of Limestone County. He was a graduate of West Limestone High School, where he played football and basketball and was a pole-vaulter on the track team. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked for the U.S. Department of Defense in Germany.

Survivors include one son, Bernard Loyd Bailey III of Frankfurt, Germany; one daughter, Sandra Bailey Hormel of Neiderwangen, Germany; one brother, Mickey Bailey of Anderson; one sister, Carole Patterson of Elkmont; and two grandchildren.

Janice Marie Burns

ATHENS -- Funeral for Janice Marie Burns, 44, of Athens will be today at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Kasey Harbin and Lowell Blankenship officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery.

Mrs. Burns died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at her home. She was born Oct. 12, 1956, in Limestone County to Garland and Margaret Russell. She was a NASA employee and member of Sandlin Road Church of Christ. She was the mother of the late Dodie Yarbrough and the sister of the late Foster Russell.

Survivors include her husband, Tommy Burns; one son, Joseph Williams Yarbrough of Athens; one daughter, Sonya Lynn Childers of Harvest; three brothers, Toney Russell, Tim Russell and Teddy Russell, all of Ardmore; two sisters, Phyllis Blackford of Ardmore and Judy Folkes of Athens; and one grandson.

Brady I. Hardin

PRICEVILLE -- Funeral for Brady I. Hardin, 80, of Somerville will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at New Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Brown and the Rev. Alfred Palmer officiating.

Burial will be in New Center Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Priceville Funeral Home.

Mr. Hardin died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 26, 1920, in Oneonta to Isaac B. Hardin and Cammie Lee Frost. He was a World War II veteran of the infantry, a member, Sunday school teacher and deacon at New Center Baptist Church and a retired postmaster at Hillsboro Post Office. He was the father of the late Myron Hardin.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Hardin of Brooksville; two sons, Larry G. Hardin of Somerville and Tommy Hardin of Brooksville; two daughters, Cynthia Nobinger of Falkville and Elaine Perry of Brooksville; one sister, Myrtle "Tiny" Oaks of Eva; 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four great-step-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Members of the New Center Baptist Church men's Sunday school class and deacons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Reba Willodean Sims

ATHENS -- Funeral for Reba Willodean Sims, 74, of Athens will be today at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Danny McMullins officiating.

Burial will be in Sandlin Cemetery.

Mrs. Sims died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born May 22, 1927, in Limestone County to Ned Dildine and Zadie Marshall Dildine. She was a homemaker and a member of Elkton Road Baptist Church. She was the widow of Millard M. Sims and the mother of the late Judy Faye Sims.

Survivors include five sons, Hubert Sims and Michael Sims, both of Athens, and Randy Sims, James Sims and Paul Sims, all of Elkmont; two daughters, Kay Motter and Carolyn Smith, both of Athens; one brother, Waymon Dildine of Athens; one sister, Ada Dye of Athens; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Diann VanKleeck

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Elizabeth Diann VanKleeck, 57, of Athens will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Aaron D. Johnson and William K. Stephenson officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Ms. VanKleeck died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Jan. 26, 1944, in Morgan County. She was a retiree of Volunteer's of America and a member of First Baptist Church in Athens.

Survivors include her father, Robert E. Wells of Decatur; two daughters, Kimberly Lee of Decatur and Jenny Bailey of Athens; two sisters, Alice Allen of Hartselle and Debra Posey of Lafayette, La.; and three grandchildren.

Billy Joe Anderson
CULLMAN -- Funeral for Billy Joe Anderson, 72, of Cullman will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Ervin officiating.

Burial will be in Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 4 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Anderson died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1929, in Ohio to G.F. Anderson and Myrtle Bradford Anderson. He was the founder and owner of Anderson Boats in Decatur and Cullman for 42 years. He earned the Mercury Marine Top Dealer Award in the United States for 25 years. He was a member of Longview Church of God where he served in different capacities.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Thompson Anderson; one son, Ricky Anderson of Cullman; two daughters, Sue Anderson DeLucia of Cullman and Teresa Anderson of Knoxville; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Gilbert Leon Hamilton

ATHENS -- Funeral service for Gilbert Leon Hamilton, 67, of Elkmont will be Monday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Dorning officiating.

Burial will be in Myers Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hamilton died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, in Athens. He was born Nov. 27, 1933, in Limestone County to Thomas Telford Hamilton and Florrie Bell Hudson Hamilton. He was a member of Crosskey United Methodist Church and served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from Monsanto in Decatur after 30 years.

Survivors include two brothers, Marvin R. Hamilton of Huntsville and Neil Hamilton of Athens; and two sisters, Violet Nelson of Elkmont and Sara Evans of Roeland Park, Kan.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Lee Nelson, Lynn Nelson, Ross Morris, Perry Morris, Joe Hamilton and Harry Hamilton.

Fred B. Hammond Jr.

IUKA, Miss. -- Funeral for Fred B. Hammond Jr., 67, of Iuka will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Cutshall Funeral Home with Michael Lambert officiating.

Burial will be in New Prospect Cemetery in Iuka. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hammond died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Iuka Hospital. He was born March 11, 1934, in Hartselle. He was the father of the late Bret Hammond and the brother of the late Doris Tidmore. He was a retired grounds and building supervisor from Township High School District No. 214 in Mount Prospect, Ill.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Hammond; three sons, Thomas Martin of Roundlake Beach, Ill., Eric Martin of Wauconda, Ill., and Chris Martin of Grayslake, Ill.; two daughters, Marcia Guiffre of Des Plaines, Ill., and Alicia Almberg of Wauconda; one sister, Flora Cooper of Decatur; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454.

LeRoy Earl Johnson Sr.

Graveside service for LeRoy Earl Johnson Sr., 82, of Decatur will be Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Langford officiating.

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1 to 3 at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnson died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at his home. He was born June 3, 1919, in Megargel to John Johnson and Nancy Solomon Johnson. He was a World War II Army veteran, co-founder of Pearce & Gresham Construction Co. and Gresham, Williams & Johnson Construction Co. He retired in 1978. He was a member of Austinville Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Johnson of Decatur; one son, LeRoy "Sonny" Johnson Jr. of Birmingham; one daughter, Gwen Wilson of Hartselle; one sister, Ann Stough of Pensacola, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Laura Owen Kyle

ATHENS -- Funeral for Laura Owen Kyle, 80, of Huntsville will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Sandlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kyle died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Huntsville. She was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Manchester, Tenn., to William T. Owen and Mimie Ellen Owen. She was a homemaker and a member of Cairo United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Jack M. Kyle.

Survivors include one daughter, Diane K. Johnson of Huntsville; one brother, William T. Owen Jr., of Athens; one sister, Mamie Lou McLemore of Wauconda, Ill.; and two grandsons.

Odell Mangrum

Odell Mangrum, 91, of Decatur died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. Reynolds Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Vicki Mobley Ryan

Graveside service for Vicki Mobley Ryan, 50, of Destin, Fla., formerly of Decatur, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Hood officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ryan died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, in Decatur. She was born April 30, 1951, in Decatur to Porter Mobley and Ida Newton Mobley. She worked in the commercial billing department at Compass Bank. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Greenville, S.C.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis Ryan of Destin; one brother, Jerry McGee of Decatur; and one sister, Gloria Dillard of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Mike Tankersley, Larry Thomason, Chris Fox, Brandon Vassar, Brent Jordan, Johnny Atkins, Dwight Hill and Howell Terry.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Katie Terry

MOULTON -- Funeral service for Katie Terry, 87, of Moulton will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Mark Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Loosier Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Terry died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at her home. She was born July 22, 1914, in Lawrence County to Arthur McGregor and Nancy Beavers McGregor. She was a homemaker and the widow of C.O. Terry.

Survivors include one son, John N. Terry of Moulton; one daughter, Dorothy Terry of Moulton; one sister, Cecil Bradford of Town Creek; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Lawrence Thomas Walters

Funeral for Lawrence Thomas Walters, 84, of Decatur will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Lewis officiating.

Burial will be in Palm's Memorial Park in Sarasota, Fla. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Mr. Walters died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 12, 1916, in Akron, Ohio, to Thomas J. Walters and Elsie Schneider Walters. He served in the Air Corps for 17 years during World War II and he was a charter member of the World War II Memorial. He was the brother of the late Betty Wingfield, the late Ruth Hart, the late Gertrude Fox and the late Dorothy Schneider.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Walters of Decatur; a son, Lawrence T. Walters II of Decatur, a daughter, Lee-Ann McClelland of Medina, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 1700 Carridale, S.W., Decatur, AL 35601.

Helen Counts Jackson

MOULTON -- Funeral for Helen Counts Jackson, 91, of Moulton will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Moulton Baptist Church with Darryl Wood and Jackie Shelton officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens with Elliott Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Jackson died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, in Moulton. She was born Oct. 14, 1909, in Mount Hope to James T. Counts and Lassie I. Hurst. She was a homemaker. She worked as Lawrence County tax assessor for two years while her late husband, tax assessor Rayburn Jackson, served in World War II. She was a member of Moulton Baptist Church and Moulton Garden Club. She was the mother of the late Carolyn Jackson.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Jackson of Decatur and Don Jackson of Moulton; two sisters, Jimmie Dean Hambrick of Decatur and Hattie Wayne Tease of Florence; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Moulton Baptist Church.
