Lydia James

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Lydia James, 45, of Falkville will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at New Song Family Church in Flint with the Rev. Les Jones and the Rev. James Maxwell officiating.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery East in Hartselle with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. James died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Sept. 19, 1955, in Morgan County to Charles Delver Maxwell and Helen Isol Puckett Maxwell. She was a member of the 336th USAR Postal Unit in Muscle Shoals. She served in the Gulf War. She was a member of the host family program for the foreign exchange students.

Survivors include her husband, Gary James; three daughters, Angie Holmes of Cullman, Chasity Jeffreys of Hartselle and Jamela Abaied of Falkville; three brothers, Ronnie Maxwell, Derrick Maxwell and James Maxwell, all of Hartselle; one sister, Debbie Nunguester of Martinez, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

Friends of the family will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Kenneth Fred 'Kenny' Jones

Graveside service for Kenneth Fred "Kenny" Jones, 53, of Hartselle will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Hills Cemetery in Birmingham with Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Jones died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born July 19, 1948, in Jefferson County to Horace O. Jones and Dorothy Witherington Jones. He worked as a construction carpenter.

Survivors include one aunt, Ludie Parsons of Trussville.

Delbert Wilson Kennamer

ALBERTVILLE -- A private service for Delbert Wilson Kennamer, 82, of Albertville and formerly of Hartselle, was Saturday at his residence.

Mr. Kennamer died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at his residence. He was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Marshall County to Delbert Wheeler Kennamer and Nellie Keeton Kennamer. He was the widower of Dicy Kennamer. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a retired Liberty National Life Insurance agent.

Survivors include one son, Wayne Kennamer of Albertville; two daughters, Carol Parson of Montgomery and Judy Kennamer Terry of Dothan; one sister, Ineil Voss of Albertville; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Adams Brown Service Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Jean Freeman King

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Jean Freeman King, 80, of Hartselle will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Grad L. Tanner officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1 until 3 at the funeral home.

Mrs. King died today at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Morgan County to John E. Freeman and Martha Ann Milan Freeman. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hartselle. She served in the WAVES during World War II. She was a librarian at Morgan County High School for five years and a former Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Roland W. King; two daughters, Kathy King Bell of Memphis and Vickie King Johnson of Ohatchee; one sister, Mildred Freeman Blizzard of Hartselle; and one granddaughter.

James M. Newton

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James M. Newton, 78, of Falkville will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at New Hope North Church with Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in New Hope North Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Newton died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at his residence. The funeral home will announce further arrangements.

Tilda M. Dotson
TRINITY -- Funeral for Tilda M. Dotson, 79, of Hillsboro, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Wheeler Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Lavanul Sherrill, the Rev. Gerald Sherrill and the Rev. Robert Cordova officiating.

Burial will be in Penney Cemetery with Parkway Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Dotson died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Moulton Healthcare Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Lawrence County to Albert Terry and Mattie Terry. She was a homemaker, a member of Prayer Tabernacle and the widow of Frank Dotson.

Survivors include one son, Danny Dotson of Hillsboro; one daughter, Marilyn Graham of Hillsboro; two brothers, Albert Clyde Terry of Hillsboro and Price Terry of Decatur; one sister, Novella Sherrill of Trinity; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Grandchildren and nephews will be pallbearers.

Kenneth Fred 'Kenny' Jones

Bessie Odell Mangrum

Funeral for Bessie Odell Mangrum, 91, of Decatur will be Thursday at noon at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ with the Rev. Cannon Peppers officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Gardens with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mangrum died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Feb. 28, 1910, in Giles County, Tenn., to Joe Finch and Mariah Gardner Finch. She was a member of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ since 1929. She joined at age 18. She was superintendent of Sunday school for 25 years, secretary/treasurer and was a mother of the church. She organized Community Carrier Co-op, which later became Community Action Center. The co-op transported black school children to integrated schools during the civil rights era. She was the widow of Y.C. Mangrum.

She is survived by four sons, Eldridge Mangrum of Holyoak, Mass., Y.Z. Mangrum Jr. of Decatur, Reuben Mangrum of Haverhill, Mass., and Ross Mangrum of Edgewood, Md.; five daughters, Kalister Green /Byrd of Haverhill, Janet Cato of Tuscumbia, Mattie Mangrum and Thisia Kelly, both of Huntsville, and Patricia Wynn of Decatur; 33 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Marshall Pendleton, Daryl Pendleton, Victor Mangrum, Larry Mangrum, Brian Shine and Marcus Shine.

James M. Newton

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James M. Newton, 78, of Falkville was to be today at 2 p.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathan Childers and the Rev. Milan DeKich officiating.

Burial will be in New Hope North Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Newton died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at his home. He was born June 29, 1923, in Lawrence County to James Marvin Newton and Lois Lue Ester Rushing Newton. He was a member of New Hope North Missionary Baptist Church and Vinemont Masonic Lodge. He was a farmer and United States Army World War II veteran. He and his wife were married for 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Lettie Newton Budd; two sons, Steve Newton and Marty Newton, both of Atlanta; two daughters, Linda Newton and Wanda Chaney, both of Falkville; one sister, Pauline Holoway of Mobile; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bradley Newton, Jim Newton, Austin Smith, Greg Smith, Michael Smith and Tommy Smith.

Mary Lou Stinnett

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mary Lou Stinnett, 90, of Athens, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Sandlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stinnett died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Limestone Health Facility.

Ruth Jackson Daniel
ATHENS -- Funeral for Ruth Jackson Daniel, 61, of Elkmont, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. Ollie Louis McWilliams officiating.

Burial will be in Thatch-Mann Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Mrs. Daniel died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Dec. 19, 1939, in Nashville to Joe Walter Jackson and Irene Ford Jackson. A homemaker, she was the widow of Robert Daniel Sr.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Daniel and Robert Daniel Jr., both of Elkmont; three daughters, Valerie Daniel and Daphna Daniel, both of Athens, and Tanya Townsend of Elkmont; and four grandchildren.

Ann Lee Haller

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ann Lee Haller, 92, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Redfern officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Haller died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, in Maryville, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Edward Silvey and Jenny Mead Silvey. She was a member of West Hartselle Baptist Church. She was the widow of Edward Kelley and Edward Haller, mother of the late James Kelley and sister of the late Herman Silvey, Paul Silvey, Henry Silvey, Barclift Silvey, Jack Silvey, Oscar Silvey, W.L. Silvey, Gene Silvey and Venmara Mae Silvey.

Survivors include one sister, Mable Allison of Hartselle; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Virginia Knight Hough

Funeral for Virginia Knight Hough, 79, of Tulsa, Okla., was Friday at Memorial Baptist Church in Tulsa with the Rev. Mark Dreyer officiating.

Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Hough died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at her home. She was born May 14, 1922, in Lacon to William Edwin Knight and Annie Virginia Patterson Knight. She attended Florence State Teachers College, now the University of North Alabama. She once taught at Falkville Elementary School. She worked as a sales clerk and purchasing agent at the Baptist Book Store in Tulsa until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. She was the sister of the late Eugene Knight and the late Ruby Knight.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, the Rev. Wallace M. Hough Jr.; one daughter, Carol White of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one son, Don Hough of Drums, Pa.; two brothers, John Knight Sr. of Lacon and Dr. William Knight of Dalton, Ga.; one sister, Eloise Richards of Hartselle; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Hough Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma Baptist University, 500 W. University, Shawnee, OK, 74804-2504, or Tulsa Vietnamese Baptist Church, 4000 W. New Orleans, Broken Arrow, OK 74012, or New Joy Fellowship Church, 14017 E. 11th St., Tulsa OK., 74108.

Timothy Jackson Knowlton III

Funeral for Timothy Jackson Knowlton III, 50, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill McGregor officiating.

Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery in Flint. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Knowlton died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born March 1, 1951, in Decatur. He worked at an automobile body repair shop and was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He was son of the late Timothy Knowlton Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Knowlton; three sons, Justin Blake Knowlton, Devin Todd Knowlton and Timothy J. Knowlton IV, all of Hartselle; two daughters, Kim Clinton of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Raven Aleese Knowlton of Hartselle; his mother, Morgan County License Commissioner Sue Baker Roan of Hartselle; two brothers, Bryan Roan of Hartselle and Bennie Knowlton of New Jersey; one sister, Bonnie Prestwood of Hartselle; and three granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Knowlton, Shane Clinton, Luel Shaneyfelt, David Mitchell, Donnie Mitchell, Nick Meadows and Terry Garwood.

William "Bill" Lee Jr.

William James "Bill" Lee Jr., 91, a former member of the Alabama House of Representatives and Lawrence County Probate Judge, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence.

His funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Town Creek United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Town Creek with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Lee was born April 26, 1910, in Town Creek to W.J. Lee Sr. and Cora Almon Lee. He played football at Hazlewood High School and scored the first ever touchdown for the school in a game against Tuscumbia. From 1947 to 1952 Mr. Lee served as a commissioner of the Lawrence County Board of Revenue and as Lawrence County's state representative to the Alabama Legislature from 1953 to 1957. He became probate judge in 1963 and held the position until 1975.

Mr. Lee was a farmer and past president of the Lawrence County Cattlemen's Association. He was president of the Lawrence County Farm Bureau and served as a director for the Citizens Bank in Moulton for several years. He was a former trustee for Joe Wheeler Electric Membership Corp.

As a member of the original Southern Rural Health Consortium, Mr. Lee was instrumental in bringing the present health clinic to Town Creek. He was a member of Town Creek United Methodist Church, the widower of Marie Traughber Lee and the brother of the late Kathleen Lee Holladay.

Survivors include one son, W.J. "Billy" Lee III of Town Creek; one daughter, Sue Lee Smith of Town Creek; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be King Streater, Frank Thaxton, James Smith, Doyd Brackin, Hugh J. Posey and Doug Russell.

Memorials may be made to the Town Creek United Methodist Church.
