Eleanor Carmichael McCulloch

Funeral for Eleanor Carmichael McCulloch, 83, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Oak Park Baptist Church with the Rev. John Bain and Rev. A. Ray Lee officiating, and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCulloch died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at her daughter's residence in Decatur. She was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Goodwater to Thomas Alexander Carmi- chael and Bunie Lee Jacobs Carmichael.

She was a charter member of Oak Park Baptist Church where she was a member of the senior adult ladies' Sunday school class. She was a member of Alabama Take Off Pounds Sensibly No. 55 and East Acres Senior Center. She was widow of Onnie Hildreth McCulloch.

Survivors include one son, Charles H. McCulloch of Decatur; two daughters, Elizabeth Sullins and Janet M. Appleton, both of Decatur; five grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley, P.O. Box 2745, Decatur AL 35602.

Mary Lou Stinnett

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mary Lou Stinnett, 90, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Alden Hendrix, Robert Hendrix and Ronda Lewis officiating.

Burial was to be in Sandlin Cemetery.

Mrs. Stinnett died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born June 7, 1911, in Limestone County to Bob and May Griggs. She was a retired supervisor for Goodsprings Senior Citizen's Center and a member of Carriger Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Dan Stinnett and Bill Stinnett, both of Athens; one sister, Flora Flannagan of Fredrick, Md.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Sally D. Stricklin

MOULTON -- Funeral for Sally D. Stricklin, 72, of Moulton will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Smyrna Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Clayborn officiating.

Burial will be in Smyrna Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stricklin died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at East Ridge Hospital in Chattanooga. She was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Lawrence County to Luther Edward Brewer and Maggie Alice Brewer. She was retired as a licensed practical nurse from Lawrence County Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Leslie Stricklin; two sons, Willard Martin of Athens and Tommy Martin of Moulton; one brother, Earl Brewer of Decatur; two sister, Gladys Martin of Michigan and Pauline Overton of Double Springs; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Stricklin, Bryan Norton, Brent Watson, Alvin Terry, Mark Cross and Greg Sharratt.

Madeleine Ann Baer
Graveside service for infant Madeleine Ann Baer of Decatur was this morning at Roselawn Cemetery with Robbie Stofel officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The infant died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, the day of her birth, at Parkway Medical Center.

Survivors include her parents, Brian and Meika Baer of Decatur; and her grandparents, Douglas and Marilyn Baer of Yukon, Okla., Ann Tarter of Alpena, Ark., and Coy Bartlett of Fayetteville, Ark.

Memorials may be made to Dogwood Community Church.

Zelma Daniel Carter

ATHENS -- Funeral for Zelma Daniel Carter, 73, of Athens, will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Word of Faith Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie James Mangruem officiating.

Burial will be in Thatch-Mann Cemetery with Mason's Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Carter died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at her home. She was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Wedowee to John Wilburn and Mittie Idella Daniel. She was the owner and director of Mason's Funeral Home and was named Business Woman of the Year in 1979. She was a member of the Emmanuel Church of God in Christ, the Order of the Eastern Star, Alabama Funeral Directors and Morticians Association and the Athens Chamber of Commerce. She was the widow of Carinus Carter.

Survivors include four brothers, John W. Daniel of Wedowee, Thomas Daniel of Lansing, Mich., James Daniel of Wadley and Franklin D. Daniel of Jemison; three sisters, Sophia McMiller and Rachel Provience, both of New Orleans, La. and Lillie Mae Harris of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Robert Harrison Gowen

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Robert Harrison Gowen, 73, of Decatur was to be today at 1 p.m. at Church of the Nativity with the Rev. Jack Wilson officiating.

Burial was to be in Maple Hill Cemetery with Laughlin Service Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Gowen died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, in Savannah, Ga. He was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Nashville to Jesse Lee Gowen Sr. and Evageline Davis Gowen. He was retired from Castner Knott department store.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Marie Gowen of Decatur; two sons, Robert Harrison Gowen Jr. of LaVergne, Tenn., and Jack Adams Gowen of Cynthiana, Ky.; one daughter, Kathy Gowen Mardis of Russellville, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Donna Marie Garrett of Sutton, W.Va., and Karen Lynn Yarbrough of Muscle Shoals; two brothers, Jesse Lee Gowen Jr. of Murpheesboro, Tenn., and William Davis Gowen of Decatur, Ga.; one sister, Marianne Abernathy of Nashville; 10 grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.

Donelson Branch Horton

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Donelson Branch Horton, 76, of Athens, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Athens City Cemetery with the Rev. William Persons officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Horton died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at his home. He was born June 2, 1925, in Athens to Judge James E. Horton and Anna Hobbs Horton. He was the owner of H & W Service Company Incorporated in Green brier. A World War II Army veteran, he received a Purple Heart. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in the Athens Rotary Club and a member of Belle Mina United Methodist Church. He was the brother of the late Maclin H. Frierson.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Yarbrough Horton; three sons, J. Maclin Horton of Fairhope, David A. Russell of Lexington Park, Md. and John D. Horton of Madison; two daughters, Leslie Russell Pate of Raleigh, N.C. and Kathy Horton Garrett of Athens; one brother, James E. Horton Jr. of Green brier; and 12 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Aycock, Gregg Blythe, John Garrett, Sam B. King, Joseph Pate and Andy Swint.

Brenda Clark Johnson

ATHENS -- Funeral for Brenda Clark Johnson, 51, of Elkmont, was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Guy McDaniel and Doug Matlock officiating.

Burial was to be in Legg Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Nov. 8, 1949, in Limestone County to Ned Clark and Lucille Clark. She was a homemaker and a member of O'Neal Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Johnson; one daughter, Cindy Wallace of Rogersville; her mother of Elkmont; two sisters, Patsy Gooch of Elkmont and Helen Gregg of Athens.

Pallbearers were to be Randy Davis, Tim Watson, Jamie Jean, Larry Brown, Roger Brown, Mike Gooch and Robert Evans.

Leroy Pope

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Leroy Pope, 76, of Vinemont will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Vinemont with the Rev. Jim Abbott officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Cullman Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Pope died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at his home. He was born July 29, 1925, in Cullman County to William Pope and Emma Johnson Pope. He was a lineman for L&N Railroad. He was the widower of Ester Rodgers Pope.

Survivors include one son, Roger Lee Pope of Decatur; three daughters, Janice Paulette Pope, Wanda Hawkins and Rhonda Horn, all of Vinemont; two sisters, Alice Haynes of Vinemont and Ethelene Robertson of Holly Pond; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Curtis Lee Shelton

Funeral for Curtis Lee Shelton, 80, of Decatur, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Craig Carlisle officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Shelton died Sept. 13, 2001 at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Aug. 28, 1921 in Lawrence County to Monroe Shelton and Tessie Hayes Shelton. He was a World War II veteran and fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was in the Landing at Normandy. He was a member of Decatur Baptist Church and a life time member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rising Sun Masonic Lodge #29 F&AM of Decatur and the Cahaba Shrine Temple of Huntsville.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Jett Shelton; two daughters, Teresa Shelton Barbee of Decatur and Marketta Shelton May of Lilburn, Ga.; one brother, Chapman Shelton of Moulton; two sisters, Catherine Thrasher and Myrcle Watson, both of Trinity; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Shrine Burn Center and Hospital for burned and crippled children.

Sarah T. Sparkman

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Sarah T. Sparkman, 86, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Moss Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Shubert officiating.

Burial will be in Moss Chapel Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sparkman died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was a member of Moss Chapel United Methodist Church and was the widow Coy E. Sparkman.

Survivors include one son, Michael E. Sparkman of Hartselle; one daughter, Rebecca Sparkman Harris of Huntsville; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Teague, Ray Collins, Ronald Sparkman, Tommy Penn, James Weaver and Lynn Proctor.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Moss Chapel United Methodist Church.

Robert 'Bob' Wesley Ward

Memorial service for Robert "Bob" Wesley Ward, 49, of Decatur, will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Don Wright officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Ward died Sept. 13, 2001 at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1952 in Huntington, West Va. to Paul and Lillian Ward. He was a member of Wesley Memorial.

Survivors include one son, Charley Ward of Decatur: his parents of Decatur; three brothers, Paul Ward Jr. and John Ward, both of Decatur and Raymond Ward of Tuscaloosa; and one sister, Helen Strouphauer of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Memorials may be made to Charley Ward College Fund at any Heritage Bank branch.

Robert Walton Anderson
Graveside service for Robert Walton Anderson, 83, of Decatur will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Asa Boozer officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Anderson died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 30, 1917, in Nashville to Dr. Walton Humphrey Anderson and Ada Virginia Talbot Anderson. He attended Auburn University, worked as a farmer and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth T. Anderson; two sons, John W. Anderson of Elkmont and Jack T. Anderson of Decatur; six grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Bert Anderson, Greg Anderson, Jack Anderson, Walton Anderson, Ben Anderson and Owen Anderson.
