Billie Jean Bracken

MOULTON -- Funeral for Billie Jean Bracken, 70, of Town Creek will be Monday at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Burks officiating.

Burial will be in Providence Cemetery in Town Creek. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bracken died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born April 30, 1931, in Arizona to William Cannon and Elsie Childers Cannon. She was a homemaker and attended Calvary Baptist Church. She was the mother of the late Fredrick Martin Hill.

Survivors include her husband, Eurealdean Bracken; two sons, Eurealdean Bracken Jr. of Gurley and Larry Bracken of Harvest; one daughter, Candee Horvat of Harrison, Mich.; one sister, Claudia Fletcher of Clearwater, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Grandchildren and friends will be pallbearers.

William Warren Carter

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for William Warren Carter, 88, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Chuck Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Carter died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at his home. He was born March 7, 1913, in Morgan County to Thomas Pendleton Carter and Bertie Mae Whilhite Carter. He was a farmer and a barber. He was the widower of Rosa Lee Carter and the father of the late William Paul Carter.

Survivors include one son, Jackie D. Carter of Decatur; four daughters, Louise White of Vinemont, Jo Lawrimore and Ruth Lewis, both of Falkville, and Edith Etheridge of Thomaston, Ga.; two brothers, Mack Carter of Vinemont and Jack Carter of Birmingham; one sister, Ona Holladay of Danville; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Beatrice Lee Slaten

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Beatrice Lee Slaten, 81, of Decatur will be Sunday at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Stanley Durham and the Rev. Ron Teal officiating.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Slaten died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Nov. 18, 1919, in Morgan County to Roy Edgar Griffin and Ida Lee Tapscott Griffin. She worked in the kitchen at Medical Park Convalescent Center. She was the widow of Oscar K. Slaten.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Slaten and Michael Slaten, both of Decatur, and Edgar Slaten of Hartselle; four daughters, Bobbie Harris, Linda Harris and Martha Slaten, all of Decatur, and Frances Arnold of Somerville; four sisters, Olene Kelly of Decatur; Earline Limly of Hartselle, Lillie Turner of Franklin, Tenn., and Esther Ford of Elberta; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tony Harris, Todd Slaten, Jeff Arnold, Alan Slaten, Brandon Arnold, Tracy Arnold, Dusty Slaten and Mark Slaten.

Peggy E. Brown
HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Peggy E. Brown, 73, of Falkville will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Hartselle Memory Gardens with the Rev. Kenneth Weldon officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brown died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at her home. She was born April 23, 1928, in Morgan County, to Arnold Milton Evans and Mirl Aslie Harvey Evans. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. She was the mother of the late Mike Brown.

Survivors include her husband, James Marvin Brown; one daughter, Janice Vinson of Falkville; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Little, Johnny Ferguson, John David Bryant, Glenn Byrd, Phillip Waldrep and Buddy Cofield.

Joe Brice Dickson

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Joe Brice Dickson, 71, of Huntsville will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Dimon officiating.

A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in Memory Hill Cemetery in Albertville. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Dickson died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Greystone Retirement Community in Huntsville. He was born May 11, 1930, in Birmingham to Monroe Jefferson Dickson and Verna Dickson. He was a funeral director for 25 years at Spry Funeral Home and was a member of Albertville Masonic Lodge Number 430 and the Cahaba Shrine Temple in Huntsville. He grew up in Albertville and was a graduate of Tennessee Military institute in Sweetwater, Tenn. He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sue B. Dickson; three sons, Steven Dickson of Sylacauga, Mark Dickson of Grayson, Ga., and Tim Bailey of Decatur; one daughter, Pam Cole of Huntsville; and five grandchildren.

Bernice Chairs

Funeral for Bernice Chairs, 65, of Decatur will be Tuesday at noon at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward Owens officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Chairs died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at her home. She was born March 5, 1936, in Morgan County to Jimmie Baker and Marvin Baker Garth. She was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., where she worked 32 years as a spooler. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, David Chairs; three daughters Lisa Chairs of Memphis, and Tina Chairs and Donna Chairs, both of Decatur; one sister, Angela Trammell of Decatur; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Terry Jones, Richard Ellis, Alvin Terry, Frank Matthews, Michael Miller, James Shackelford, George Miller and Billy Jones.

Maybelle Holt

Funeral for Maybelle Holt, 87, of Falkville will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Earl Holt officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Holt died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Falkville Healthcare. She was born Aug. 30, 1914, in Morgan County, to Murray Oakley and Nancy Wood Oakley. She was a member of Rural Grove Baptist Church. She was the sister of the late William Oakley.

Survivors include one brother, Otis Oakley of Brooksville.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Oakley, John Oakley, Mike Oakley, Don Morrison, Butch Hagen and Keith Tucker.

Vera Mae Key

TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Vera Mae Key, 82, of Town Creek will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Town Creek Church of Christ with Bernard Dawes officiating and Morrison Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. The body also will be in the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Key died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. She was born July 7, 1919 in Town Creek to Pink and Lillie Key. A graduate of Carraway School of Nursing in Birmingham and The University of Alabama nursing school, she worked many years at Carraway Methodist Hospital, Jefferson County T.B. Sanitarium and Veterans Hospital in Birmingham. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was the sister of the late Cora Aston, R.L. Key, Benford Key and Carlton Key.

Survivors include two brothers, James Key of Panac City, Okla., and Sam Key of Town Creek.

Pallbearers will be Russ Wilson, Scott Key, Keith Key, Joel Buttram, Gary Buttram, Terrell Key, Chuck Booth and Dan Simmons.

Beatrice Lee Slaten

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Beatrice Lee Slaten, 81, of Decatur will be today at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Stanley Durham and the Rev. Ron Teal officiating.

Wallace Donald Church
Funeral for Wallace Donald Church, 89, of Birmingham will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Moebes officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Church died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Health South Hospital in Birmingham. He was born April 20, 1912, in Tampa, Fla., to Thomas Church and Maggie Moebes Church. He was retired from Meadow Craft-Birmingham. A member of Huffman United Methodist Church and East Lake Lions Club, he was the widower of Alice Morris Church. He had a lifelong love of fishing and other outdoor sports.

Survivors include one son, Don Church of Birmingham, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Henry B. 'Chief' Hill

Funeral for Henry B. "Chief" Hill, 80, of Hillsboro will be Wednesday at noon at Reynolds Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Bankhead officiating.

Burial will be in Flower Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Hill died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born May 6, 1921, in Lawrence County to Henry Hill Sr. and Louise Whitfield Hill. A graduate of Tennessee Valley High School, he was a veteran of World War II who served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include six brothers, Willie Baker, Charles Baker, Frank Baker, Robert Baker and Thomas Baker, all of Decatur, and Donald Hill of Hillsboro; six sisters, Lucy Bankhead and Elease Watkins, both of Hillsboro, and Elizabeth Harris, Eloise Baker, Pearlean Baker and Margaret Wilkerson, all of Decatur; and one grandson.

Pallbearers will be Willie Baker, Charles Baker, Frank Baker, Donald Hill, Donald Watkins and Tony Watkins.

Jeff Horton

MOULTON -- Funeral for Jeff Horton, 46, of Moulton will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Moulton Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Compton officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Garden with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends this evening from 4 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Horton died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at his residence. He was born Oct. 11, 1954, in Tennessee to Richard Otha Horton and Betty Ruth Berry Horton. He was a maintenance mechanic at Dunlop Tire.

Survivors include his wife, Daina Horton; two daughters, Amber Nicole Horton and Alisa Richelle Horton, both of Moulton; his parents of Cypress Inn, Tenn.; and one sister, Beverly Stooksberry of Iron City, Tenn.

Ernest T. Wilhite

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ernest T. Wilhite, 69, of Hartselle will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Miller officiating.

Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Wilhite died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at his residence. He was born May 12, 1932, in Morgan County to Zack Wilhite and Emma Bain Wilhite. He was retired from the United States Army where he was a truck driver and a member of the 119th Transportation Co. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War.

Survivors include one sister, Rosie Woods of Hartselle.

Hazel Irene Schaub Davidson
ATHENS -- Graveside service for Hazel Irene Schaub Davidson, 77, of Toney will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Douglas Eubanks and Tim Murray officiating, and Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Davidson died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at UAB-Spain Wallace Center in Birmingham. She was born April 23, 1924, in Limestone County to John Schaub and Cora Schaub. She was a homemaker and a member of Jennings Chapel Church of Christ. She was the sister of the late Willie Schaub and Raymond Schaub.

Survivors include her husband, Robert W. Davidson; two sons, John Davidson of Athens and Neal Davidson of Decatur; two daughters, Gay Ulrich of Athens and Cindy Griffin of Decatur; one sister, Lucille Schaub Sanderson of Capshaw; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Athens-Limestone Kidney Association.
