Manuel Scott Davis

ATHENS -- Funeral for Manuel Scott Davis, 26, of Athens will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerome Hilliard officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Davis died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in Limestone County. He was born Oct. 27, 1974, in Madison County, to Bill Davis and Pat Davis. He worked as an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 558, and graduated from Athens High School where he played football.

Survivors include his parents, of Athens; two brothers, James Smith of Denver and David Smith of Vinemont; one sister, Sharon Teague of Madison; and his grandparents, William James Davis and Nadine E. Davis of Hohenwald, Tenn.

Pallbearers will be William Davis, Matthew Davis, Brian Davis, Jason Gordon, Jason Holden and Richard Martin.

Lawrence Eugene Goodin

ATHENS -- Funeral for Lawrence Eugene Goodin, 83, of Elkmont, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Randall Hammock and James Swindle Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Myers Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Goodin died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at his home. He was born April 27, 1918, in Limestone County to Lemuel Eugene Goodin and Molly Goodin. He was a carpenter. He attended O'Neal Church of Christ. He was the brother of the late Leroy Goodin and Louise Price .

Survivors include his wife, Clura Belle Goodin; two sons, Douglas Stanford and Steve Goodin, both of Athens; one daughter, Lynell Clem of Athens; three brothers, Archie Goodin of Elkmont, Harvey Goodin and Charles Goodin, both of Athens; five sisters, Naomi Key and Marie McNatt, both of Elkmont, Betty King, Gladys Nelson and Kathleen Carr, all of Athens; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bill Laxson, Freddie McNatt, Larry Carr, Tommy Goodin, David Key, Wayne Goodin, Lester Nelson and Chris Moss.

Audrey Johnson Looney

ATHENS -- Funeral for Audrey Johnson Looney, 83, of Athens will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. George Dudley officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Looney died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at her daughter's home. She was born July 13, 1918, in Limestone County to W.B. Johnson and Audrey Grisham Johnson. She was a homemaker and former bookkeeper for Sweet Sue Kitchens and the United Givers Fund, now the United Way. A member of First Christian Church, she was the widow of Lewell L. Looney.

Survivors include two sons, Larry W. Looney and William K. "Bill" Looney, both of Athens; one daughter, Susan Looney Qualls of Athens; two sisters, Verona Johnson Walton of Athens and Ann Johnson Morell of Elkmont; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Pugh, Ronnie Looney, Frank Looney, Bryan Looney, Daryle Qualls and Jack Balch.

Barbara Ann Craig Meadows

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Barbara Ann Craig Meadows, 66, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Athens City Cemetery with the Rev. Aaron D. Johnson officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Meadows died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born June 1, 1935, in Limestone County and was retired as legal secretary. She was a member of First Baptist Church-Athens.

Survivors include two daughters, Neysa Leicher and Susan Stone, both of Athens; one brother, John M. "Buster" Craig of Athens; one sister, Cornelia Craig of Athens; and four grandchildren.

Carol Faye Evans Rochell

ATHENS -- Funeral for Carol Faye Evans Rochell, 66, of Tampa, Fla., will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Joe Teal officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rochell died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Tampa. She was born Nov. 15, 1934, in Limestone County to Harrison Evans and Margie Sloan Evans. Living in Tampa since 1964, she worked for George Steinbrenner Hotel as banquet coordinator for 18 years. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, William D. Rochell; one son, David Michael Rochell of Schoeningen, Germany; one daughter, Judy D. Rochell of Tampa; two brothers, Clyde G. Evans and James Paul Evans, both of Crown Point, Ind.; one sister, Phyllis Jackson of Athens; and one granddaughter.

High school classmates will be pallbearers.

Gladys Odell Smith

ARAB -- Funeral for Gladys Odell Smith, 76, of Union Grove was to be today at Arab Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Cavender, the Rev. Ralph McCollum and the Rev. Ken Tyler officiating.

Burial was to be in Oleander Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Marshall Medical Center North. She was born Aug. 4, 1925, in Marshall County to Everett Oden and Rosa Black Oden. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and the Iris Society. She retired from P.R. Mallory Co. She was the widow of Leonard H. Smith.

Survivors include two sons, Danny H. Smith and Donnie L. Smith, both of Union Grove; two daughters, La Nell Spann of Union Grove and Jean Gaylord of Birmingham; two brothers, Ernest Oden of Union Hill and Glen Oden of Union Grove; one sister, Grace Oden of Union Grove; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be G.A. Davis, John Smith, Donald D. Oden, Larry Daugett, David Bagwell and Brandon Burget.

Marlin Camp
LAWTON, Okla. -- Funeral for Retired Brig. Gen. Marlin Watson Camp, 80, of Lawton, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Post Chapel with Chaplain Capt. Rick Way officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in Post Cemetery with Becker Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Camp died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Fort Sill, Okla. He was born Nov. 23, 1920, in Marshall County to Lurlie Clayton Camp and Julia Taylor Camp. He attended Cullman County High School and Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, graduating in 1941. Entering active duty in May 1942, he fought in World War II as a captain, in Korea as a major and in Vietnam as a colonel. He retired as brigadier general at Fort Sill in 1972.

He was at Dachau, Germany, during World War II when the concentration camp there was liberated. He served in Berlin during the Berlin Blockade as a senior aide-de-camp to High Commissioner John J. McCloy and commanded a 240mm howitzer battalion in Korea. He commanded First Infantry Division artillery in Vietnam, an officer candidate brigade at Fort Sill from 1967-68 and the VII Corps Artillery in Stuttgart, Germany, 1970-71. Decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star with V, Air Medal with 11 Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge as Task Force Commander in Vietnam. He was the brother of the late Frank Lamar Camp.

Survivors include his wife, one son, two daughters, one sister, and five grandchildren.

Christopher Eugene Cantrell

ATHENS -- Funeral for Christopher Eugene Cantrell, 48, of Athens will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Roland Lee officiating.

Burial will be in Isom's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Cantrell died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Meriwether Lewis Park in Hohenwald, Tenn. He was born June 9, 1953, in Trenton, Mich., to Eugene and Dorothy Harden Cantrell. A resident of Limestone County for 24 years, he worked at Limestone County Co-Op and was known by citizens band radio friends as "Oil Can."

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Cantrell; one son, Raymond Cantrell of Athens; one daughter, Stephanie Cantrell McMunn of Athens; and his parents of Athens.

Pallbearers will be Danny Cantrell, Rodney Sherrill, Tim Turner, John Watkins, Terry Watkins and Kenneth Ensmineer.

Thomas W. 'Tommy' Cantrell

ATHENS -- Funeral for Thomas W. "Tommy" Cantrell, 52, of New Market will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Freeway House of the Lord in Toney with the Rev. Jeffery R. Heard, the Rev. Mark Heard and the Rev. Ed Solway officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery with Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight after 6 at the church.

Mr. Cantrell died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 25, 1948, in Madison County to James Thomas Cantrell and Evelyn Cantrell Allison. He was a member of Freeway House of the Lord.

Survivors include his mother of New Market; one brother, Charles W. Cantrell of New Market; and one sister, Sarah Mayes of Guntersville.

Pallbearers will be Jody Worthey, Billy Markham, Jackie Parsons, Jason Worthey, Melvin Jarrett and James Markham.

William A. Meyer

Funeral for William A. Meyer, 71, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Sandra Locke-Godbey officiating.

Burial will be in Moss Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Meyer died at home Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001. He was born Nov. 1, 1929, to Louis Meyer and Emma Cottin Meyer. He was a contractor and estimator for Byrson Construction Co. for 26 years after retiring from Granada Apartments.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Meyer; five sons, Johy Meyer of Hawaii, James Meyer of Nevada, Jeral Meyer and William Meyer, both of California, and Robert Meyer of Spain; three daughters, Samantha Potts of Caddo, Yvette Jones of England and Susie Haube of Canada; one sister, Betty Bell of Eugene, Ore.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dan White, Stanley Letson, George Letson, Jerry Conrad, Woody Moyers and Dean Harden.

O.E. 'Bill' Sanders

CULLMAN -- Funeral for O.E. "Bill" Sanders, 73, of Cullman was to be today at 2 p.m. at Moss-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin Hayes and the Rev. Bill Burkett officiating.

Burial was to be in Cullman City Cemetery.

Mr. Sanders died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 16, 1927, in Cullman to Oscar J. Sanders and Belle Bailey Sanders. A U.S. Army veteran, he was retired from U.S. Steel in Fairfield and was also a real estate agent. He served as an ordained deacon at First Baptist Church of Cullman. He was brother of the late Inez Sanders and Joyce Sanders Postell.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen "Elna" Sanders; one son, Randal Sanders of Birmingham; three daughters, Linda Sanders Lee of Decatur, Wanda Sanders Tubbs and Lisa Sanders Brinkman, both of Chattanooga; and six grandchildren.

Minnie Lee Smith

TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Minnie Lee Smith, 80, of Town Creek will be Thursday at noon at Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Sparks officiating.

Burial will be in Red Bank Cemetery with Thompson and Son Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before services.

Mrs. Smith died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield. She was born June 27, 1921, in Killen to Raleigh Fields and Willodean Harden Fields. She attended school in Lauderdale County and was a member of Lone Star Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She married Willie C. Smith Sr. in 1950 when the couple moved to Town Creek and joined Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member until her death. She served as president of the Missionary Society and for 36 years the Senior Choir. She was an active Sunday school student and a member of Mothers Board. She also was a member of Hampton Chapter No. 528, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, William Mitchell and Willie Smith Jr., both of Town Creek; four daughters, Naydean Coffee, Mattie Williams and Essie Koger, all of Town Creek, and Mary Torrens of Detroit; and two sisters, Ruth Allen of Mount Clemens, Mich., and Lena Mae Smith of Chattanooga.

Eunice Virginia Vining Guthrie

ATHENS -- Funeral for Eunice Virginia Vining Guthrie, 86, of Elkmont will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Steve Ferguson officiating.

Burial will be in Reunion Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Guthrie died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at her home. She was born April 27, 1915, in Limestone County to John Vining and Virgie Vining. She was a homemaker and a member of Elkmont Church of Christ. She was the widow of William Buren Guthrie Sr. and the mother of the late Hollis Guthrie and Janice Gooch.

Survivors include four sons, William B. Guthrie Jr., Lloyd Wayne Guthrie, Curtis Lavern Guthrie and Daryl Keith Guthrie, all of Elkmont; six daughters, Carolyn Guthrie McGlocklin of Tanner, Sharon Guthrie Usery of Elkmont, Barbara Guthrie Hemphill of Ardmore, Phyllis Guthrie Spencer of Lester, Susan Guthrie Holt and Shelia Guthrie McKnight, both of Athens; one sister, Evie Hughes of Athens; twenty-five grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Rev. Gene Malcolm 'Mack' Hamby Sr.

FLORENCE -- Funeral for the Rev. Gene Malcolm "Mack" Hamby Sr., 91, of Florence will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Elkins Funeral Home with the Rev. George Cobb and the Rev. Mickey Davis officiating.

Burial will be in Florence City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hamby died Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Sunbridge-Shoals Nursing Home in Tuscumbia. He was born May 6, 1910, in Tuscaloosa to Lugene Bryant Hamby and Martha Alexander Hamby. He went into the ministry at age 17, attending Asbury College in Kentucky and graduating from Birmingham Southern College. Admitted to the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1934, he served as a conference evangelist for many years. He also served as pastor of Oakland United Methodist Church in Lauderdale County, Westhaven United Methodist Church in Birmingham and McKendree and Moss Chapel United Methodist churches in Morgan County and Hillsboro and Chalybeate United Methodist churches in Lawrence County. He was the widower of Katherine Koonce Hamby.

Survivors include one son, Gene M. Hamby Jr.; one daughter, Jeannine Keenum of Athens; six grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Mark Hamby, James Keenum, Eddie Nix, Glenn Rose, Lance Dean and Barry Hightower.

Memorials may be made to the missions fund at First United Methodist Church in Florence or First United Methodist Church in Sheffield.
