Houston P. Johnson Jr.

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Houston P. Johnson Jr., 69, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, in Owensboro, Ky.

Peck Funeral Home will announce further arrangements.

Nathan B. Owings

Funeral for Nathan B. Owings, 83, of Decatur will be Friday at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Allen Baker III and the Rev. Doug Wells officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Owings died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at his home. He was born March 28, 1918, in Birmingham to Berry Stephen Owings and Maria Carnathan Owings. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and retired from Alabama Power Co. in Birmingham. He was a former Civitan Club president and Rotarian and member of First United Methodist Church. He was the brother of the late Edward R. Owings, Minnie Bibb and Sara Belle Bynum.

Survivors include his wife, Effie J. Owings; one son, Phillip Jeffrey Owings of Witchita, Kan.; two daughters, Jan Worthey of Decatur and Wini Baker of St. Simons Island, Ga.; three sisters, Gladys Owen, Ocia Stadler and Nannie Cargo, all of Birmingham; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to Hospice of the Valley or First United Methodist Church.

Marguerite Paulson

Funeral for Marguerite "Margo" Paulson, 76, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Culotta officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Mrs. Paulson died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation for Decatur. She was born Feb. 6, 1925, in Montreal to Lazzarre Carta and Corradine Morrotta Carta. Mrs. Paulson had lived in Decatur since 1964. She was married for 45 years and was retired from H&R Block as a legal secretary.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Paulson; one son, Edward Paulson of Atlanta; two daughters, Renee Youngblood of Trussville and Diane Henderson of Boston; three sisters, Marie Bouchard and Rosette Lemiux, both of Montreal, and Antoinette Hebert of Vancover; and two grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to St. Ann Catholic Church building fund or the American Cancer Society.

Fannie Mae Taylor Freeman

Funeral for Fannie Mae Taylor Freeman, 83, of Belle Mina will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. James Franklin officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be Garrett Cemetery. The body will be at the church 30 minutes before the service.

Mrs. Freeman died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at her home. She was born Sept. 18, 1918, in Limestone County to John Henry Taylor and Carrie Long Taylor. She had been a member of Jerusalem Primitive Baptist since 1936.

Survivors include one son, Clarence Freeman of Huntsville; one daughter, Dorothy Drake of Belle Mina; 20 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Troupe, Paul Miller, William Malone, Clifton Garth, Andre Rodgers and Charles Harney.

Vaughn R. Moore

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Vaughn R. Moore, 76, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeri Hunt officiating.

Burial will be in Forrest Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Moore died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Morgan County to Sherrill William Moore and Louella Whitten Moore. He retired from the U.S. Air Force and from Monsanto, where he worked in maintenance. He was a member of Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church. He was the brother of the late Freda Moore.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Moore; three sons, Jerry Moore of Birmingham, David Moore of Florence and Donny Moore of Muscle Shoals; one daughter, Jan Neumaster of Ocean Springs, Miss.; two brothers, Ferrell Moore of Fontana, Calif., and J.P. Moore of Hartselle; two sisters, Jacquelyn Buonchristiani of West Covina, Calif., and Dorstor Ann Moore Rogers of Hartselle; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the building fund at Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church.

Abby Lou Sherer Turner

Memorial service for Abby Lou Sherer Turner, 90, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mitchell Williams officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

Mrs. Turner died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001. She was born June 30, 1911, in Walker County to Albert L. Sherer and Lula Johnson Sherer. She graduated from Walker County High School in 1928 and Montevallo College in 1932. She taught school in Dora, Jasper and Athens. She was president of Wheeler Area Region Girl Scouts, Trowelers Garden Club and Decatur Mothers Club. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and served on its finance committee. She was the widow of Holmes A. Turner.

Survivors include one son, H. Alvan Turner of Chicago; one daughter, Abigail Turner of Minneapolis; one brother, Dr. Raymond J. Sherer of Birmingham; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church or Wheeler Basin Regional Library.

Sadie Cook Webb

CARTHAGE, Tenn. -- Funeral for Sadie Cook Webb, 73, of New Middleton, Tenn., formerly of Decatur, will be today at 1 p.m. at Sanderson Funeral Home with Rickey Hall and William Overton officiating.

Burial will be in Smith County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today after 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Webb died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was born July 14, 1928, in Lebanon, Tenn., to Floyd and Nellie Cook.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, James Webb; one son, Ronnie Webb of Hartselle; two daughters, Debbie Keenum of Decatur and Peggy Goolsby of Tanglewood, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Roy Swaffer, Terry Martin, Ed Martin, Frank Waller, Walter Page, Jeff Winfree and Edward Webb.

Roy G. Breland

Graveside service for Roy G. Breland, 57, of Decatur was Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Mitch Smith officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

The family received friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Breland died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Dec. 7, 1943, in Mathiston, Miss., to Alvin E. Breland and Eva E. Jackson Breland. He was a salesman for Alabama Farmers Cooperative.

Survivors include his wife, Mary White Breland; one son, Steve Breland of Green wood, Miss., three daughters, Sherry Maddox of Madison, Miss., Ginger Breland and Gina Breland, both of Ridgeland, Miss.; his mother, Eva Breland Nicholson of Oxford, Miss.; one sister, Bonnie Isbell of Oxford; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Skelton, Scott Lindsey, Carl Isbell, Johnny Thorton, Jimmy Blanton and Lucian Cox.

Mildred Lavern Caudle

RED BAY -- Funeral for Mildred Lavern Caudle, 79, of Vina will be today at 3 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Nichols Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery with Deaton Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Caudle died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. Born in Alabama, she was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and Charity Chapter No. 1 O.E.S. She was the widow of Larry Ottis Caudle and the grandmother of the late Mac Jackson.

Survivors include one daughter, Clara Hamilton of Decatur; two sons, Jimmy Jackson of Russellville and Billy Caudle of Mission, Texas; four sisters, Lorene Singleton, Cutaw Manasco, Geneva Griffus and Brenda Humphries, all of Vina; five brothers, Fred Holland of Russellville, F.V. Holland and R.V. Holland, both of Vina, J.T. Holland of Tremont, Miss., and Thurston Holland of Moulton; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Martin Jackson, Jim Jackson III, Ken Hamilton II, Tim Hamilton, Billy W. Caudle and Stephen Caudle.

Dora Mae Bryant Gobble

Graveside service for Dora Mae Bryant Gobble, 101, of Decatur will be today at 3 p.m. at Rochelle Cemetery in Lawrence County, Tenn., with the Rev. Bobby Gobble and the Rev. Todd Evans officiating and Ridouts Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends for one hour before the service at graveside.

Mrs. Gobble died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Pulaski, Tenn. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. She was the widow of W.M. Gobble and the mother of the late Irene McMurray of Decatur.

Survivors include one daughter, Lora Mae Vinson of Frankewing, Tenn.

Calvin M. Kelsoe

TRINITY -- Funeral for Calvin M. Kelsoe, 73, of Falkville will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Lebanon Church of God with the Rev. Willie Delashaw, the Rev. Ted Agee and Justin Kelsoe officiating.

Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Parkway Funeral Home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service Monday.

Mr. Kelsoe died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville. He was born Dec. 31, 1927, in Lawrence County to Will Kelsoe and Lizzie Kelsoe. He was a bulldozer operator. He was the father of the late Butch Kelsoe.

Survivors include three sons, Gary M. Kelsoe of Hillsboro, Ronnie J. Kelsoe of Speake and Bruce D. Kelsoe of Falkville; two brothers, Bill Kelsoe of Speake and Quinton Kelsoe of Speake; one sister, Mavis Vernon of Speake; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Todd Kelsoe, Warren Kelsoe, Justin Kelsoe, Benny Hill, Rodney Parker, Shane Griffith, Steve Kelsoe and Paul Crow.

Rosa Kirkpatrick Otts

SULLIGENT -- Funeral for Rosa Kirkpatrick Otts, 79, of Beverly Health Care Center in Winfield will be today at 2 p.m. at The Prospects Primitive Baptist Church with Orbie Pierce officiating.

Burial will be in Prospects Cemetery with Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent directing.

Ms. Otts died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001. She was born June 6, 1922, in Winston County to Thomas Kirkpatrick and Florence Washburn Kirkpatrick.

She was a member of Waldrop Freewill Baptist Church in Haleyville. She worked for Forroux Co. in Huntsville for several years. She was the widow of F.C. "Dick" Otts and the sister of the late Otis Kirkpatrick, Arthur Kirkpatrick, Emmett Kirkpatrick and Eunice Gore.

Survivors include one son, Clement Thomas of Lacey's Spring; one daughter, Thelma Mitchell of Guin; one brother, Millard Kirkpatrick of Haleyville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Timothy 'Tim' Taylor

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Timothy 'Tim' Taylor, 42, of Elkmont will be today at 2 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Kennem officiating.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery with Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Taylor died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, in a traffic accident near Ardmore. He was born Feb. 18, 1959, in Limestone County to Harris T. Taylor and Ruby L. Hughes Taylor. He was the brother of the late Stanley Taylor.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Smallwood Taylor; his mother of Elkmont; six brothers, Ted Taylor, Roy Taylor and Marshall Taylor, all of Elkmont, and Bobby Taylor, Grady Paul Taylor and Robert Taylor, all of Athens; two sisters, Judy McNatt of Elkmont and Mot Wray of Prospect, Tenn.; and two granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be Mike Taylor, Jeff Taylor, Scotty Taylor, Jason Taylor, Josh Taylor, Jeremy Haggermaker, Joey Wray and Bub Ray.
