Florence C. Compton
Funeral for Florence C. Compton of St. Cloud, Minn., will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Mark Tolbert and the Rev. David McKelvey officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Compton died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at St. Benedict's Senior Community in St. Cloud. She was born in Morgan County to the Rev. B.P. Collier and Elizabeth Witt Collier. She was the widow of Rowland J. Compton. She was the office manager for her husband's business, Rowland Compton Refrigeration. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and helped found the Homebound Department, now known as TLC. She was active in civic clubs, The Decatur Concert Association, Garden Club and Mother's Club.

Survivors include one son, Carlton B. Compton of Decatur; two sisters, Frances Collier and Mary Collier, both of Decatur; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be Michael Collier, Joseph Collier, David Collier, Ralph Matthews, Ernest Matthews and James Matthews.

Robert Frank Haney

STEVENSON -- Funeral for Robert Frank Haney, 82, of Stevenson was to be today at 2 p.m. at Rudder Funeral Home with the Rev. Derek Boyd officiating.

Burial was to be in Stevenson City Cemetery.

Mr. Haney died Monday, Sept. 24, at Jackson County Hospital. He was born Dec. 4, 1918, in Athens to William Issac Haney and Rose Bixby Haney. He retired as a pipefitter at Widow's Creek steam plant after 32 years.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Haney; one son, Robert Don Haney of Stevenson; two daughters, Frances Loyd and Sherri Lynn McCrary, both of Stevenson; one sister, Lucille Smith of Moulton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Roberta 'Bertie' Jenkins

TRINITY -- Funeral for Roberta "Bertie" Jenkins, 88, of Moulton was to be today at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Ray McWhorter and Bill Becker officiating.

Burial was to be in Moulton Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Jenkins died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born May 18, 1913, in Lawrence County, to Walter Perry and Lougenie Perry. She was a homemaker, a member of Moulton Church of Christ and the widow of Jim D. Jenkins.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry Jenkins of Hatton, Gary Jenkins of Moulton and Jimmy Jenkins of Decatur; five daughters, Daphine Aldridge of Trinity, Gwendolyn Millwood of Decatur, Bertha Alexander of Trinity, Rachel Wix of Celina, Tenn., and Melba McWhorter of Moulton; three sisters, Emma Jean Frost of Moulton, Dessie Vandiver of Hartselle and Jane Spears of Phil Campbell; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Mary Louise Lane

TRINITY -- Funeral for Mary Louise Lane, 74, of Moulton will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Jones and the Rev. Hollis Rutherford officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lane died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham. She was born Nov. 7, 1926, in Walker County to Travis Sawyer and Mattie Maude Sawyer. She was a homemaker and a member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Lane was the mother of the late Rick Sawyer and June Millwood.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Lane; four sons, Gene Sawyer of Montana, and James Sawyer, Thomas Lane and Keith Lane, all of Moulton; five brothers, Jim Sawyer, Clem Sawyer, Dwayne Sawyer, Donald Sawyer and Bill Sawyer, all of Moulton; three sisters, Lovene Hobbs, Faye Cottingham and Sandra Sawyer, all of Moulton; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ruby Elizabeth Gill Roberts

ATHENS -- Funeral for Ruby Elizabeth Gill Roberts, 75, of Athens, was to be today at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Keenum and the Rev. Calvin Inman officiating.

Burial was to be in New Salem Cemetery.

Mrs. Roberts died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Limestone County to James Daniel Gill and Maggie Black Gill. She worked as a nurse at Athens-Limestone Hospital for over 20 years. She was a member of Sardis Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, William Clayton Roberts; and one sister, Rena Stringer of Athens.

Pallbearers were to be Jason Patrick, Wayne Roberts, Phillip Roberts, Tim Roberts, Jason Roberts and Lawrence Holt.

Willie N. Smith

ATHENS -- Funeral for Willie N. Smith, 70, of Athens will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Wheeler Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Hillsboro with the Rev. Thomas Davis officiating.

Burial will be in Courtland Cemetery with People's Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at her home. She was born Dec. 5, 1930, in Lawrence County, to Percy Jones and Willie Jones. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Smith Sr.; seven sons, Robert Smith Jr., Cleveland L. Smith, Thomas Smith, James L. Smith and Steven Smith, all of Athens, Freddie Smith of Birmingham and Jack A. Smith of Montgomery; seven daughters, Jo Ann Draper and Mary A. Smith, both of Huntsville, Dianne Kelso, Doris A. Smith, Willie A. Sparks, Allison Smith and Gloria A. Smith, all of Athens; two brothers, Robert L. Jones and John Ester Jones, both of Chattanooga; 24 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Imogene Roberts Elliott

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Imogene Roberts Elliott, 91, of Athens, was to be today at 10 a.m. at Pettusville Cemetery with Timothy New officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Elliott died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Haskell, Texas to W.B. Roberts and Kitty Roberts. She was a retired saleswoman and a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet Waggoner of Athens; one son, Fred P. Elliott of Singapore; one sister, Letha Staggs of Little Rock, Ark.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Pettusville United Methodist Church.

Louise Lane

TRINITY -- Funeral for Louise Lane, 74, of Moulton was to be today at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Jones and the Rev. Hollis Rutherford officiating.

Daniel McAuliffe

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Daniel McAuliffe, 72, of Huntsville will be in Long Island, N.Y., on a date to be announced by Twickenham Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calverton National Cemetery.

Mr. McAuliffe died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at his home. He was a former resident of Decatur, where he was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and former owner of Dental Castings dental lab.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen McAuliffe; three sons, Robert McAuliffe of Madison, Mark McAuliffe of New York and Charles Carroll of South Carolina; one daughter, Barbara Toole of New York; one brother, Vincent Vallaro of Rhode Island; one sister, Patricia McAllister of New York; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

William Jesse McWaters Sr.

Funeral for William Jesse McWaters Sr., 81, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Mark Tolbert, the Rev. Pat Brock and the Rev. Jay Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville at 3:30. The family will receive friends Friday night from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mr. McWaters died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Gadsden to Clarence I. McWaters and Myrtie Battles McWaters. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher, and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was manager and salesman for Allphase Electric Co. and retired in 1987.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita McWaters; one son, William J. McWaters Jr. of Atlanta; two daughters, Karen McWaters Hopkins of Columbus, Miss., and Sandra McWaters Berthelot of Decatur; one brother, Clifton D. McWaters of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Doris M. Huffman and Maxine M. Piland, both of Virginia Beach; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the elevator fund at Central Baptist Church.

Mattie Sue Pepper

Funeral for Mattie Sue Pepper, 72, of Hartselle will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Dugger officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pepper died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at her home. She was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Decatur to Benton Pepper and Katie Allen Pepper. She was a homemaker and the widow of Russell T. Pepper.

Survivors include three sons, James Edward Pepper Sr. of Priceville, Charles Russell Pepper Sr. and Danny Keith Pepper Sr., both of Hartselle; two brothers, Buford Allen and Cecil Allen, both of Hartselle; four sisters, Lucille Hillie of Birmingham, Marie Lawrence of Orlando, Fla., Mae Huckaby of Somerville and Betty Faye Haggermaker of Hartselle; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Pepper, Randy Pepper, Raymond Knight, Junior Allen, Mike Haggermaker and Sam Kent.

Carl E. Russell

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Funeral for Carl E. Russell, 61, of Warrenton, Ga., will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Road with full military honors and the Rev. John Lyons officiating.

Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Russell died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Ga. He was born Sept. 25, 1939, in Packard, Ky., to Clay Russell and Jane Pratt Melotte Russell. He lived the past 14 years in Warrenton. He retired as a master sergeant from the Army after 20 years, serving in Vietnam, and later worked as a computer technician for Johnson Controls. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was the husband of the late Mirella Menardi Russell.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Tedder of Decatur and Julie Mills of Conyers, Ga.; three brothers, John Melotte of Peachtree City, Ga., James Melotte of Kennesaw, Ga., and Clay Russell Jr. of Indiana; his mother, Jane Hinkle Melotte of Stockbridge, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 326 Green e St., Augusta, GA 30901 or to the American Red Cross Relief Fund, 1322 Ellis St., Augusta, GA 30901.

Mirella Menardi Russell

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Funeral for Mirella Menardi Russell, 64, of Warrenton, Ga., will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Road with the Rev. John Lyons officiating.

Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Russell died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Ga. She was born Oct. 23, 1936, in Brunico, Italy, to Gino Menardi and Olga D'Olif Menardi. She lived the past 14 years in Warrenton, where she retired as manager of the Fort Gordon Flower Shop. She was a homemaker and a member of the Warrenton Garden Club. She was the widow of Carl E. Russell.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Tedder of Decatur and Julie Mills of Conyers, Ga.; two sisters, Verena Ballard of Augusta, Ga., and Gigliola Cesarini of Italy; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2623 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30904, or to the American Red Cross Relief Fund, 1322 Ellis St., Augusta, GA 30901.

Kathleen L. Compton
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Kathleen L. Compton, 83, of Danville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Blackmon officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Compton died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born April 10, 1918, in Morgan County to Pruitt Livingston and Bertha Sandlin Livingston. She was a member of East Highland Baptist Church. She was a teacher in the Morgan County School System for 38 years.

Survivors include one brother, Bennett Livingston of Hartselle.
