Zelma F. Lake

BIRMINGHAM -- Funeral for Zelma F. Lake, 98, of Wylam will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Angwin Mortuary with the Rev. Randy E. Ingram officiating.

Burial will be in Valhalla Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lake died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Self Nursing Home in Hueytown. She was born Sept. 3, 1903, in Montgomery County, Tenn., to John Parker and Frances Poole Parker. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Wylam Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Society.

Survivors include two sons, John D. Lake of Pleasant Grove and C. Floyd Lake of Homewood; two daughters, Faye N. Bankston of Trinity and Betty Jean Gassaway of Albertville; two sisters, Nina Brown and Edith Maples, both of Hartselle; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

James Coy Lewis

ATHENS -- Funeral for James Coy Lewis, 66, of Athens will be today at 3:30 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Guy McDaniel officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends today at the funeral home two hours before service.

Mr. Lewis died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Dec. 27, 1934, in Limestone County to Ernest Lewis and Lucille Boyd Lewis. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a self-employed mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Mary D. Lewis; one daughter, Kay Tate of Killen; one brother, Mike Lewis of Athens; two sisters, Joyce Carter of Athens and Shirley Hughes of Hartselle; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy Davis, Charles Christopher, Ted Davis, Lewis Adams, Jimmy Davis and Greg Penley.

Clara Sue Grigsby

FLORENCE -- Funeral for Clara Sue Grigsby, 87, of Florence will be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Gilbert Kretzer officiating.

Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Grigsby died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at her home. She was born July 26, 1914, in Lawrence County to Charlie Suggs and Maude Lee Clark Suggs. She was a homemaker and a member of Florence Boulevard Church of Christ. She was the widow of Fred L. Grigsby.

Survivors include three sons, Edward Grigsby of Trinity and Thomas Grigsby and Larry Grigsby, both of Florence; one brother, Charles Suggs of Florence; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Fuller, Dervard Rickard, Wayne Suggs, Leon Borden, Brandon Tolbert and Bryan Hunt.

Memorials may be made to The Coalition of Alzheimer's and Related Disorders of Northwest Alabama, P.O. Box 1608, Florence, AL 35631.

Jennifer 'Jenny' Breed Thompson

TRINITY -- Funeral for Jennifer "Jenny" Breed Thompson, 35, of Decatur will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitch Smith and the Rev. Charlie Claborn officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thompson died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at her home. She was born Dec. 21, 1965, in Lawrence County to David Letson and Ora Dean Davis Letson. She was assistant manager of the Burger King on Sixth Avenue Southeast in Decatur.

Survivors include one son, David Wayne Breed of Decatur; one daughter, Courtney Kaye Thompson of Decatur; one sister, Lora Cowart of Hartselle; and her parents of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Tolbert, Timothy Davis, Jimmy Letson, Patrick Davis, Perry Letson and Bobby Lee Terry.

Carl H. 'Slick' Allen
Funeral for Carl H. "Slick" Allen, 59, of Hillsboro will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. James Hawkins and the Rev. Bill Pullen officiating.

Burial will be in Clardy Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Allen died at home Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001. He was born Nov. 22, 1941, in Lawrence County to George Allen and Geneva Gibson Allen. He was a member of Fish Pond Baptist Church and a forklift operator for ConAgra Food and Grain Processing. He was the father of the late Tracey Allen and brother of the late Fred Allen and Willard Allen.

Survivors include his wife, Dalphine Allen; one son, Carl H. Allen Jr. of Hillsboro; one daughter, Carla Allen of Hillsboro; four brothers, Donald Allen of Chalybeate, Charles Allen of Town Creek, Samuel Allen of Hillsboro and Hollis Allen of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; four sisters, Noami Adams of Detroit, Mich., Sybil Taylor of Leeds, Ruth Back of Hillsboro and Ethel Stewart of Moulton; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Carl H. Allen Jr., Cecil Allen, Grady Allen, Conrey Jones, Roger Cottingham and Joe Sharp.

Rev. John Herbert Cole

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for the Rev. John Herbert Cole, 93, of Hartselle was to be today at 1 p.m. at West Hartselle Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Redfearn, the Rev. Glenn Wood and the Rev. Bob Gordon officiating.

Burial was to be in Sardis No. 2 Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Cole died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born April 14, 1908, in Cullman County to Edward Monroe Cole and Margaret Rhodanna Rogers Cole. He pastored churches in Winston and Cullman counties, including Sardis Baptist Church, Unity Baptist, Brickyard Baptist and Edgewood Baptist. He was a member of West Hartselle Baptist Church. He was the widower of Agnes Rozell Allgood Cole. He also was a farmer.

Survivors include one son, Weldon Cole of Tuscaloosa; two daughters, Melba Lindley of Hartselle and Sue Wren of Hanceville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Scott Barker, Justin Cribbs, Larry Greer, Chris Nuss, Clinton Roberson, Jamie Wren and Randy Wren.

Frances F. Jenkins

Funeral for Frances F. Jenkins, 75, of Danville will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Enon Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Huey officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Ms. Jenkins died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation for Decatur. She was born Feb. 11, 1926, in Morgan County to Raymond Farrer and Ruby Barnes Farrer. She retired from BellSouth after 38 years of service. She was a lifetime member of Enon Baptist Church and was a member of the Pioneer Telephone Retirees.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Jenkins of Danville; two sons, Floyd Jenkins of Moulton and Gary Jenkins of Danville; one daughter, Carolyn Smith of Decatur; five step-granddaughters; and one step-great-grandchild.

Katherine B. Kruidenier

Funeral for Katherine B. Kruidenier, 82, of Decatur was to be today at 2 p.m. at First Bible Church with the Rev. Steve Bateman officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Kruidenier died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at her home. She was born Dec. 23, 1918, in New Orleans to Lewis Blackburn and Fleming Cocke Blackburn. She grew up in Marion and moved to Decatur in 1953. She graduated from Judson College in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in drama, and she taught school in Perry County before working as a civilian employee at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery.

In Decatur, Mrs. Kruidenier was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and later attended First Bible Church. At St. John's, she served as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Altar Guild. She also taught children's Sunday school. She was instrumental in forming the church's first Cub Scout program, in which she served as a den mother. She also was a Girl Scout leader. She served as a two-time president of the citywide Parent Teacher Association for Decatur City Schools and was a leader in the World Day of Prayer meetings for Decatur women. She was a gardener and outdoor enthusiast. She was the widow of Robert D. Kruidenier.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert D. Kruidenier Jr. of San Antonio, N.M., and William Kruidenier of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Amanda K. Griffin of Opelousas, La.; one brother, Lewis Blackburn of Tuscaloosa; one sister, Marjorie B. Bennett of Lafayette, La.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to National Parkinson Foundation Inc., American Parkinson Disease Association Inc. or First Bible Church.

Josiah Game Mathews Jr.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Funeral for Josiah Game Mathews Jr., 28, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Hardage Funeral Home.

Burial was to be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Mathews died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, in Limestone County. He was born Oct. 14, 1972, in Jacksonville, to Joe and Mary Mathews. He attended Douglas Anderson School of the Arts from 1993 to 1995, where he was a member of the jazz choir and Chambers Singers. He later attended Florida Community College at Jacksonville.

Survivors include his father and step-mother, Jodi Mathews, of Lutz, Fla.; his mother of Jacksonville; one brother, John Farmer Mathews of Jacksonville; one sister, Allison Mathews of Jacksonville; and grandmothers, Gwen Mathews of Palmetto, Fla., and Ann Seales of Jacksonville.

Memorials may be made to a local Humane Society chapter.

Andrew 'A.L.' McGregor

MOULTON -- Funeral for Andrew "A.L." McGregor, 88, of Courtland will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Wallace, the Rev. Buddy Simmons, the Rev. Scotty Letson and the Rev. C.G. Redding officiating.

Burial will be in Courtland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. McGregor died Sunday, Oct 14, 2001, at National Health Care in Moulton. He was born Dec. 16, 1912, in Texas, to Curtis McGregor and Viney Bain McGregor. He was a retired farmer and a member of Courtland Baptist Church. Mr. McGregor was one of the oldest men in Courtland.

Survivors include two sons, Lewis McGregor of Courtland and David McGregor of Decatur; one daughter, Annie Kate Gower of Leighton; one brother, Ben McGregor of Town Creek; one sister, Mamie Loosier of Florence; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John McGregor, Greg McGregor, Steve Mitchell, Ricky Harrison, Chris Hulsey, Dan Simmons, Wayne Loosier and Joe Loosier.

William 'Harry' McPherson

Funeral for William "Harry" McPherson, 85, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Steve O'Brien and Mark Posey officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. McPherson died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation of Decatur. He was born Feb. 19, 1916, in Warrior to David McPherson and Letha Reed McPherson. He was a logger in the timber business and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys McPherson; one son, Jimmy McPherson of Athens; two stepdaughters, Betty Taylor and Jan Sanders, both of Decatur; one half-brother, Mitchel McPherson of Mount Olive; four half-sisters, Grace Reed, Martha Holt, both of Remlap, Nell Coleman of Fort Walton, Fla., and Gladys Lanningham of Warrior; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Edsel Ford Moore

MOULTON -- Funeral for Edsel Ford Moore, 79, of Town Creek will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Darryl Wood officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Moore died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Lawrence County to F.T. Moore and Dessie Newman Moore. He was retired as a deputy with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department and served as a bailiff for Lawrence County Circuit Judge Billy Burney. Mr. Moore was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marines and a member of Moulton Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, James Edsel Moore of Decatur; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Moore of Pinson; three brothers, Gurnia Moore and Gary Moore, both of Montgomery, and Paul Moore of Auburn; two sisters, Helene Oliver of Moulton and Mary Faye DeShazo of Foley.

Kathleen Molden Pannell

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Kathleen Molden Pannell, 60, of Somerville will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Nelson Hollow Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pannell died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 2, 1941, in Somerville to Andrew Jackson Pannell and Ila Mae Rainey Pannell. She was last employed at Somerville Manufacturing Company as a supervisor. She was the mother of the late Richard Paul Molden II.

Survivors include five daughters, Cindy Lou Miller and Ila Molden Jones, both of Somerville, Darla Rae Hinkel of Little Sioux, Iowa, Dennette Doe Stull of Omaha, Neb., and Karyl Elizabeth Evans of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two brothers, Steve Pannell of Phoenix and Larry Pannell of Omaha; two sisters, Marceline Wilson and Linda Roberts, both of Omaha; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Joel Bailey, Tim Hogan, Mitchell Simmons, Daniel Pannell, Davis Mitchell and Darren Jones.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or the American Cancer Society.
