Sue Landers Billions Speakman

Funeral for Sue Landers Billions Speakman, 87, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Arthur Rowe and the Rev. Gene Lankford officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Speakman died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at her home. She was born Oct. 20, 1914, in Decatur to H.F. "Buck" Landers and Ludie Bayne Landers. She was the widow of Desmond D. Billions and Willis E. "Bill" Speakman. She was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church and a bookkeeper at Warren's Department Store.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley L. Barnett of Decatur; two step-sons, Warner E. Speakman of Memphis and Winford A. Speakman of Peach Tree City, Ga.; one sister, Martha Madolyn Landers of Decatur; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley, P.O. Box 2745, Decatur, AL 35601or Memorial Drive United Methodist Church.

Hubert John Wright

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Hubert John Wright, 70, of Danville was to be today at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Delashaw and the Rev. Francis Proctor officiating.

Burial was to be in Johnson Cemetery in Speake.

Mr. Wright died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born April 30, 1931, in Morgan County to John Earl Wright and Ore Mae Childers Wright. He was a cattle and poultry farmer and a Korean War veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Madith Grace Wright; one son, Marcus Wright of Decatur; two daughters, Kathy Terry of Trinity and Janice Miller of Danville; one brother, Leldon Wright of Wartrace, England; three sisters, Wilma Stinson and Nancy Morgan, both of Hartselle, and Thelma Lang of Wisconsin; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Kristopher Terry, Kurtis Terry, Melvin Lawrimore, Ricky Smith, Michael Jones and Steve Wiley.

Reda Jean Brown
Graveside service for Reda Jean Brown, 59, of Decatur will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Mike Nix officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 to 9 at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brown died at home Monday, Oct. 22, 2001. She was born June 7, 1942, in Limestone County to Samuel Douglas Fudge and Alma White Fudge. She was a member of Beltline Church of Christ and worked for Decatur City Schools in the Transportation Department.

Survivors include her husband, James O. Brown; one son, James Douglas Brown of Decatur; and her parents of Falkville.

Pallbearers will be Levi Smith, Wayne Bolden, Bill Terry, Eual Parker, Bill Schrimsher and Jack Angle.

Torrell Lee Holley

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Torrell Lee Holley, 13, of Madison will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Andrews Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. George Franklin Sr. and his father, Charlie Holley, officiating.

Burial will be in Royal Cemetery with Royal Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

He died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital East. He born Dec. 17, 1987, in Guntersville to Charlie L. Holley and Cassandra Holley. He was an eighth-grade student at Liberty Middle School, who won numerous basketball awards. He enjoyed basketball, football, reading and playing video games. He was a member of St. Andrews Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents of Madison; one sister, Kiana Holley of Madison; his grandparents, Otis and Laurine Moore of Guntersville; and his grandmother, Pearl L. Holley of Madison.

Dorothy Juyne Lepre

Graveside service for Dorothy Juyne Lepre, 65, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Burningtree Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Mike Nix officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lepre died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at The University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham. She was born July 28, 1936, in Gilbert, La., to Samuel F. Robertson and Eva Wallace Robertson. She had been a resident of Decatur for 23 years and was an avid bowler. She was the mother of the late Roger Lepre.

Survivors include her husband, Vallie F. Lepre; one daughter, Pam Lepre of Las Vegas; three brothers, Walter S. Robertson of Kansas City, Mo., and Samuel F. Robertson and Claude H. Robertson, both of Tullahoma, Tenn.; her mother, Eva Wallace Robertson of Louisiana; and one grandson.

Thomas Oscar 'Bossie' Marsh

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Thomas Oscar "Bossie" Marsh, 71, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Terry Nappier officiating.

Burial will be in New Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Marsh died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Nov. 28, 1929, in Morgan County to John Thomas Marsh and Lola Francis Farrow Marsh. He was a retired mechanic and a Baptist. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1953. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5788 in Lockport, Ill. He loved fishing, boating and working in his yard, and was a Chicago Cubs fan. He was the father of the late Thomas Eric Marsh and the brother of the late Paul Marsh, Jessie Farrow, Robert Marsh, Sarah Ann Waldrop and Margaret Johnson Morgan.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Ruth Lawrence; one son, John Thomas Marsh of Huntsville; three daughters, Patricia Marsh Bruton of Somerville, Catherine Marsh Johnson of Huntsville and Helen Marsh Whitmer of Hoschton, Ga.; two stepsons, Tim Lawrence of Indiana and Randy Lawrence of Hartselle; one stepdaughter, Judy Davis of Falkville; two brothers, Ronnie Farrow of Hartselle and J.T. "Bubba" Marsh of Florida; three sisters, Evelyn Hardin of Moulton and Judy Haiflich and Betty Sue Patterson, both of Florida; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Grandsons, sons-in-law and nephews will be pallbearers.

Mattie Avo Moss

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mattie Avo Moss, 83, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. James Long officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Moss died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at her home. She was born Sept. 3, 1918, in Limestone County to James and Carrie Taylor.

She was a retired cook for Jerry's Restaurant in Athens and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Moss; two sons, J.W. Moss of Trinity and Oneal Moss of Athens; two daughters, Mattie Adelle "Sis" Lovell and Elaine Blankenship, both of Athens; two sisters, Pearl McCormick of Lester and Corene Tribble of Athens; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Corley Johnson, Wilburn Taylor, Don Hughes, Steven Tribble, Marty Dollins and Robert Lovell.

Estelle Hendrix Neher

Graveside service for Estelle Hendrix Neher, 85, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Asa Boozer officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Mrs. Neher died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Sunbridge Health Care Center of Decatur. She was born Sept. 15, 1916, in Morgan County to Clyde Hendrix Sr. and Estelle Yarbrough-Hendrix. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Gerald W. Neher Sr.

Survivors include one son, Gerald W. Neher Jr. of Decatur; and two grandchildren.

Violet Lucille Smith Toone

Funeral for Violet Lucille Smith Toone, 90, of Trinity will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Fun- eral Home with Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cem- etery. The family will re- ceive friends Wed- - nesday from 10 to 11 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Toone died at home Monday, Oct. 22, 2001. She was born March 6, 1911, in Lawrence County to Fred L. Smith Sr. and Minnie Demastress Smith.

She was a member of Beltline Church of Christ and a retired nurse for Decatur General Hospital. She was the sister of the late Pauline Pettey and Fred L. Smith Jr.

Survivors include one daughter, Geraldine Fromhold of Trinity; two sisters, Hazel Tanksley of Decatur and Lessie Millican of Birmingham; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Richard D. Goode, Bill Pettey, Clayton Fromhold, Tim Tanksley, Jake Fromhold and Steve Clark.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley or the American Cancer Society.

Mary Jo Compton Cary Watley

TROY -- Funeral for Mary Jo Compton Cary Watley, 74, of Troy, was Thursday at New Tabernacle Southern Meth- odist Church in Ariton with the Rev. Terrel Andrews officiating.

Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Watley died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery. She was born March 4, 1927, in Morgan County to John Olen Compton and Ruth Evans Compton. She was retired from the federal government and was a former member of First United Methodist Church of Falkville.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Watley; four sons, Paul Burleson "Pete" Cary of Canyon Hill, Calif., Spencer Van Cary and Jonathan Compton Cary, both of Debray, Fla., and Martin Stacy "Bo" Cary of Decatur; two daughters, Virginia Carol "Ginger" Hollis of Ozark and Karen Lynn Beasley of Troy; two brothers, John Thomas "Tommy" Compton of Vinemont and the Rev. Hugh Compton of Decatur; three sisters, Kaye Bates of Falkville, Jackie Phillips of Athens and Anna Davidson of Hoover; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Grandsons were pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to New Tabernacle Southern Methodist Church.

Lura Darnell
TRINITY -- Funeral for Lura Darnell, 94, of Trinity will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Hoyt Nelson and Evan Bowling officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Darnell died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born May 1, 1907, in Lawrence County to Joseph and Cora Bogle. She was a homemaker and a member of New Antioch Church of Christ. She was the widow of Arthur Darnell and the mother of the late Velma Darnell.

Survivors include three sons, Joe Darnell of Trinity, Neal Darnell of Decatur and Bailey Darnell of Moulton; three daughters, Thelma Smith of Moulton, Vera Wilson of Moulton and Ann Smith of Peoria, Ill.; three brothers, Price Bogle, Jink Bogle and Thomas Bogle, all of Decatur; one sister, Louise Stinson of Decatur; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Velma Freeman

Funeral for Velma Freeman, 85, of Decatur will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America with the Rev. Theodore Bone officiating.

Burial will be at Sterrs Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Ms. Freeman died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born July 16, 1916, in Limestone County to Shade Woodruff and Josephine Garner Woodruff. She worked as a housekeeper and was a member of St. James CPCA Church. She was also a member of Choir Number One, Mass Choir and Club Number Four. She was the widow of Taft Freeman.

Survivors include one step grandson, Tyrone Freeman of Decatur; one step-granddaughter, Wanda Wiggins of Decatur; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be St. James officers and Cecil Ratliff, Willie Walton and Marvin Griffin.

Nannie B. Nelson

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Nannie B. Nelson, 96, of Livonia, Mich., and formerly of Hartselle, will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Hartselle with the Rev. W.G. Henry officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Nelson died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia. She was born in 1905. She was the widow of Woodford Owen Nelson and the mother of the late Marjorie Solomon.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Emery of Round Rock, Texas, and Nancy Owen Nelson of Dearborn, Mich.; one brother, David Chandler of Benton, Ky.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Owen McCord, McLean Lutz, Dwight Lutz, Ed Hudgins, Larry Beasley and Robert Stephenson.

Memorials may be made to Lutheran Heritage Home, 33600 Lutheran Lane, Livonia, MI 48154.
