Lillian W. Miller

Funeral for Lillian W. Miller, 85, of Decatur will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. J.B. Snyder and the Rev. Marty Steelman officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 4 to 6 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Miller died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Jan. 21, 1916, in Morgan County to John Taylor White and Margaret Phillips White. She was a homemaker and a member of Austinville First Baptist Church. She was the widow of Grady E. Miller.

Survivors include one son, Doyle F. Miller of Decatur; three daughters, Virginia Ball of Hartselle, Juanita "Skeeter" McDonald of Rogersville and Pat Lee of Town Creek; one sister, Annie Bell Standridge of Decatur; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Joyce Covington Patterson

ATHENS -- Funeral for Joyce Covington Patterson, 69, of Woodridge, Ill., will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Patterson died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, in Illinois. She was born May 31, 1932, in Limestone County. She was the widow of Charles Pat Patterson.

Survivors include one son, Charles Patterson of Boling Brook, Ill.; four daughters, Karen Howell of Atlanta, Sharon Bertels of Jacksonville, N.C., Rhonda Dowden of Aurora, Ill. and Melissa Patterson of Woodridge, Ill.; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Birdwell and Margaret Cramer, both of Athens; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

John E. Tucker

TRINITY -- Funeral for John E. Tucker, also known by his citizens band radio name of "Hop-A-Long," 70, of Trinity, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitch Smith and the Rev. Sammy Evans officiating.

Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Tucker died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at his home. He was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Lawrence County to Graves and Flossie Tucker. He was a retired foreman for the state and county road department and a member of Hillsboro Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Odean Tucker; one daughter, Denise Yousef of Louisville, Ky.; two brothers, Reno Tucker of Hillsboro and R.V. Tucker of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two sisters, Ozema Crow of Trinity and Sue Haynes of Kalamazoo; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dale Garrison, Winford Stewart, Joel Reagan, Danny Terry, Ray Warren and Bobby Terry.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Calvin Frederick Ayers
Funeral for Calvin Frederick Ayers, 54, of Decatur will be Tuesday at noon at Somerville Road Church of Christ with Irvin Himmel and Gary Patton officiating.

Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Ayers died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 25, 1947, in Morgan County to Calvin King Ayers and Freddie Jordan Ayers. He was an employee of Champion Paper (International) and a graduate of Lakeside High School. He was a member of Somerville Church of Christ. He was a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran, having received the Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Expert Rifle Badge and the Run Cross of Gallantry with one palm.

Survivors include his wife, Hermena Ayers of Decatur; three sons, Chauncy Ayers, Calvin Ayers, and Corry Ayers, all of Decatur; two daughters, Felicia Stovall of Decatur, and Harriet Williams of Radcliff, Ky; his stepfather, Thomas Garrett of Decatur; two brothers, Chester Ayers and Roderick Ayers, both of Decatur; four sisters, Daphina Sheffey of Detroit, Mich., Mary Davis of Decatur, Brenda Allen of Mechanicsville, Md., and Carolyn Ayers of Huntsville; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Members of the Lakeside Class of 1966 will be pallbearers.

Sadie McCall Hair

SUMTER, S.C. -- Funeral for Sadie McCall Hair, 88, of Sumter will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Drew Choates officiating.

Burial will be in Troublefield Cemetery in Wedgefield, S.C. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hair died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Tuomey Healthcare System. She was born Dec. 28, 1912, in Clarendon County, S.C., to Dan McCall and Eunice Alsbrooks McCall. She retired from Pioneer Dress Company after 40 years. She was a member of Wedgefield Baptist Church and the widow of George T. Hair. She was the mother of the late Clyde Hair and the late Mary Jane Hair, and the sister of the late Marion McCall, the late Mary McCall, the late Lucille Silver, the late Belva Truesdale and the late Pearl McLeod.

Survivors include three sons, George B. Hair of Sumter, Ralph Hair of Decatur and Allen Hair of Columbia, S.C.; one brother, D.J. McCall of Sumter; two sisters, Maude Galey and Elizabeth Smith, both of Sumter; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kipper Hair, Ralph Hair Jr., Lee Cummings, Jeffrey Cummings, Mike McLeod, Reggie Goodman and Bobby Batten.

Audrey Stroup McCluskey

Funeral for Audrey Stroup McCluskey, 75, of Decatur was to be today at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Wallace Willingham officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. McCluskey died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Feb. 21, 1926, in Morgan County to Melvin Theo "Tode" Stroup and Eula Mae Shelton Stroup. She was an avid supporter of Austin High School basketball. She was the widow of Edward "Bud" McCluskey.

Survivors include five daughters, Vicki Toney of Athens, Brenda McCluskey of Buford, Ga., Charlotte Hooton of Birmingham, and Sheila McCluskey and Linda Moebes, both of Charleston, S.C.; her mother; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were to be David Toney, Michael Hooton, Rudy Moebes, Michael Toney, Brandon Moebes, Patrick Hooton, Adam Wilson and Charles Williamson.

John I. McCord Jr.

Memorial service for John I. McCord Jr., 86, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Clotfelter officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. McCord died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital.

He was born Nov. 26, 1914, in Jefferson County to John Idas McCord Sr. and Margaret L. Naugher McCord. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Decatur and a member of Rising Sun Masonic Lodge Number 29. He was also a member of the Mary Lou Dancy Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include one son, John H. McCord of Decatur; one daughter, Carol Taylor of Atlanta; two stepsons, Tim Shaneyfelt of Falkville and Earl Shaneyfelt of Hartselle; one stepdaughter, Sue Strickling of Decatur; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge or the Mary Lou Dancy Chapter ,Order of the Eastern Star at 1 Walnut St. N.E., Decatur, AL 35601.

William 'Biggen' Byrd

HARTSELLE -- William "Biggen" Byrd, 64, of Florida, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Martin Memorial South Hospital in Florida.

He was born July 26, 1937, in Cullman County to Lee S. Byrd and Maggie Black Byrd. He was a laborer.

Survivors include two brothers, George Byrd of Golden Valley, Ariz., and Roy Byrd of Decatur; and two sisters, Ann Brown and Mae Foote, both of Decatur.

Neal 'Cowboy' Copeland

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Neal "Cowboy" Copeland, 74, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Karl Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Falkville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Copeland died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 19, 1927, in Morgan County to Brownie Copeland and Edith Copeland. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was retired from the Shipping and Receiving Department at Wolverine Tube Inc. in Decatur. He was the widower of Martha Corine Copeland.

Survivors include two sons, Timothy Neal Copeland and Ricky Copeland, both of Hartselle; one daughter, Tracy Perkins of Decatur; one brother, Buddy Copeland of Cullman; two sisters, Sue Evans of Naples, Fla., and Mary Ann Copeland of Falkville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one step-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Seth Copeland, Judson Copeland, Chris Copeland, Lester McCollum, Don Haynes and Jamie Terry.

John Daly

ATHENS -- Funeral for John Daly, 76, of Athens will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Aaron Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Daly died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Sept. 21, 1925, in Giles County, Tenn., to William Noble Daly and Lou Ella Headricks Daly. A resident of Limestone County most of his life, he was a graduate of Athens State College and received a master's degree from George Peabody University in Nashville. He co-owned Acme Lumber Company in Athens and later owned and operated Travelway Motel and Restaurant on U.S. 31 in Athens. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Daly; one son, John Lynn Daly of Montgomery; three daughters, Marilyn Burgett of Birmingham, and Janie Hughes and Susan Voiers, both of Athens; eight sisters, Jenny College of Dayton, Ohio, Betty Willis of Elkmont, Wilma Austin, Jane Powers and Martha Daly, all of Athens, and Sue Aycock, Anita Daly and Peggy Ghee, all of Decatur; three brothers, Billy Daly of Elkmont, and Joe Daly and Jerry Daly, both of Athens; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dax Robinson, Wes Hughes, Trey Voiers, Justin Daly, Russ Daly, Jason Black and Stan Roberts.

Effie Lou Gilchrist

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Effie Lou Gilchrist, 87, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. W.G. Henry officiating.

Burial will be in Marvin Church Cemetery in DeKalb County. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gilchrist died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 22, 1914, in DeKalb County to John Gaines and Effie Aida Luther Gaines. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hartselle and a retired economics teacher for the Morgan County school system. She was the widow of L.L. Gilchrist.

Survivors include three nephews, Bob Gaines of Yardley, Pa., Bill Gaines of Tuscaloosa and John L. Gaines Jr. of Palatka, Fla.

Allen Niles Hopkins

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Allen Niles Hopkins, 42, of Falkville will be Wednesday at Peck Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Greg Compton and the Rev. Jack Bailey officiating.

Burial will be in Herring Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hopkins died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at his home. He was born May 26, 1959, in Morgan County to James Hillard Hopkins and Gladys Garrison Hopkins. He was an electrician for Delphi Steering Systems and a farmer. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Massey Fire Department and a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa D. Hopkins; his parents of Falkville; and one sister, Charlotte Beavers of Falkville.

Pallbearers will be Rufus Penn, Jack Summerford, Russell Reeder, Tim Laney, Jerry Jones, David Brock, Mal Patterson and Taldon Garrison.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Davin Allen Jackson

Graveside service for infant Davin Allen Jackson will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Sterrs Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Gaines officiating and Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8 at the funeral home.

The infant died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, the day of his birth, at Decatur General Hospital.

Survivors include his father, Darren Lamont Allen of Decatur; his mother, Jessica Urie Jackson of Decatur; two brothers, Brian O'Neal Young Jr. of Decatur and Dy-Kerius Rushawn Allen of Courtland; his grandparents, Sam and Connie Lane of Decatur, Clara Allen of Decatur and Michael Allen of Athens; and his great-grandfather, John Ed Lane of Athens.
