Gorman Means Braswell

Funeral for Gorman Means Braswell, 83, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wade Griffith officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and the body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Braswell died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 5, 1918, in Decatur to Bascom E. Braswell and Martha Ann Means Braswell. He was a retired farmer, former owner of Green Acres Golf Course and a past board member of Alabama Farm Bureau. He was also a former member of the Alabama Cattlemen's Association. He was a lifelong member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Braswell; one son, Gorman O'Neal Braswell of Decatur; four daughters, Carolyn McLemore, Charlotte Atkins and Mary Sue McDaniel, all of Decatur, and Kathy Braswell of Montgomery; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Will McDaniel, Jeff Stewart, Russell Millwood, Steve Hill, Douglas Birdyshaw, Chris Lilly, Wilson Mitchell and Leonard Sellers.

Memorials may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Buddy McCullar

Funeral for Buddy McCullar, 72, of Decatur, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Moody officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. McCullar died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 2, 1929, in Walker County to Hubert McCullar and Josie Garrett McCullar. He was a reserve police officer for Priceville Police Department. He was retired from Alabama Power Co. and was a coal miner.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia N. McCullar; one son, Gary McCullar of Decatur; one daughter, Linda Curnel of Decatur; two sisters, Iladean Purdes and Charlotte Davis, both of Nauvoo; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Curnel, Monte Waites, Doyle Hammonds, Bill Pope, Ron DeWeese and Wayne Bates.

Honorary pallbearers will be staff of Priceville police and fire departments.

Thelma Callahan Ruf

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Thelma Callahan Ruf, 78, of Athens, was to be today at 2 p.m. at Germantown Cemetery with James Wallace officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

The family was to receive friends from noon to 1:30 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ruf died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at her home. She was born July 13, 1923, in Limestone County to Jeff David Callahan and Dora Emberton Callahan. She was a member of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of Douglas Casteel and David E. Ruf Sr. She was the mother of a late infant son, the late David E. Ruf Jr. and the late Martha Kay Ruf.

Survivors include three sons, Harold Ruf of Huntsville, and Leon Ruf and Donnie Ruf, both of Athens; two daughters, Shirley Carr and Melissa Ruf Lovett, both of Athens; six grandchildren; three step-grand- children; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Leon Ruf, Donnie Ruf, Harold Ruf, David E. Ruf III, Steve Lovett and Grady Bain.

James Rufus 'Jim' Allen
Graveside service for James Rufus "Jim" Allen, 62, of Decatur will be Saturday at noon at East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with Jim Bodine officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Friday 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church and again Saturday morning from 10 to 11.

Mr. Allen died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born July 13, 1939, in Falkville, to Rufus E. Allen and Juanita Allen. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1958 to 1961, and was owner of J.R. Allen Printing Co.

Survivors include his wife, Katie Allen; two sons, James Allen Jr. and Tim Allen, both of Decatur; two daughters, Kim Narmore of Decatur and Emily Springer of Somerville; his parents, of Decatur; one sister, Linda Fletcher of Huntsville; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chisholm Downs, Don Gowan, Bob Pentecost, Allen Brand, Wayne Nix, Clayton Parker, J.L. Sanders and Charles Martin.

Nell Mullins Anderson

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Nell Mullins Anderson, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Wilson officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Mrs. Anderson died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born in Morgan County to Simeon Elvis Mullins and Nancy Ophelia Burch Mullins. She was the former owner of Nell's Dress Shop in Hartselle and was a member of First Baptist Church in Hartselle. Mrs. Anderson also was a member of The Christian Women's Association of Decatur and was the sister of the late Ruth M. Brown.

Survivors include one brother, Otto L. Mullins of Decatur; and three sisters, Dorothy M. Black and Ann M. Moses, both of Decatur, and Fay M. McCurley of Hartselle.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Annie B. Cushing

GADSDEN -- Funeral for Annie B. Cushing, 84, of Gadsden will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Village Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Hyche officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pisgah Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cushing died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Etowah County. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and was the widow of Wallace Cushing.

Survivors include one son, Lamar Cushing of Hartselle; two brothers, Ronald Chambers and Edward Chambers, both of Gadsden; one sister, Ruby Hill of Detroit; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Family members will be pallbearers.

Roy Smith Fudge

ATHENS -- Funeral for Roy Smith Fudge, 81, of Hayden will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Leon Mauldin officiating.

Burial will be in Oneal Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Fudge died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at his home. He was born April 4, 1920, in Limestone County, to Edward Fudge and Suzanne Fudge. He was retired as a Church of Christ minister after 53 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ella Fudge; three sons, Raymond C. Fudge of Hayden, Philip R. Fudge of Trenton, Fla. and Kendall R. Fudge of Lutz, Fla.; three daughters, Betty Williams of Mount Olive, Peggy Phifer of Des Moines, Iowa and Ellen Williams of Ardmore; two brothers, Curtis Fudge and Clarence Fudge, both of Athens; three sisters, Edith Fudge of Athens, Irma Meeks of Fort Worth, Texas and Lucy Waller of Nashville; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Billy Clyde Nabors

MOULTON -- Funeral for Billy Clyde Nabors, 60, of Town Creek will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Claborn and the Rev. Hollis Retherford officiating.

Burial will be in Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Nabors died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at his home. He was born March 4, 1941, in Marshall County, to Riley Robert Nabors and Bonnie Louise Nunn Nabors. He was retired as an electrician from Reynolds Aluminum and was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. Mr. Nabors was a member of Hatton Masonic Lodge No. 879 and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Stout Nabors; three daughters, Della Ransom of Birmingham, Darlene Whitten of Danville and Donna Retherford of Moulton; his mother, of Arab; three brothers, Robert Nabors of Daton, Tenn., Jimmy Nabors of Anniston and Sammy Nabors of South Carolina; one sister, Peggy Long of Arab; and five grandchildren. Members of Hatton Masonic Lodge 879 will be pallbearers.

Carl Sherman Royer

Funeral for Carl Sherman Royer, 83, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Royer died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Lawrence County, to James Earnest Royer and Florence Hampton Royer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served five years and attained the rank of sergeant. He retired from Wolverine Tube after 27 years.

Survivors include his wife, Twilight McWhorter Royer.

Pallbearers will be Tim Sharp, Ewell Russell, Ramon Royer, Mark McWhorter, Joel McWhorter and Greg Napps.

Willard Terry

MOULTON -- Funeral for Willard Terry, 74, of Moulton will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Bill Becker and DeWayne Key officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens on Saturday at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends Friday night at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Mr. Terry died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, in Hillsboro. He was born July 4, 1927, in Lawrence County, to Wilbur Terry and Vernice Terry. He was retired as a machine operator from Wolverine Tube and was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Terry was the widower of Venus Terry.

Survivors include his son, Gaylan Terry of Texas; one daughter, Phyllis Taylor of Hillsboro; three brothers, Franklin Dewayne Thompson and George Dewight Thompson, both of Priceville and Harce Junior Thompson of Tuscumbia; two sisters, Mary Christine Terry of Courtland and Rosie Nell Naylor of Moulton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

James Rufus 'Jim' Allen

Cora Hawkins Drake

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Cora Hawkins Drake, 89, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Wilson officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Drake died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Oct. 15, 1912, in Lawrence County to James Hawkins and Rosie Hayes Hawkins.

She was an inspector at Alabama Hosiery Mill and a clerk at Belk Hudson Department Store. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hartselle.

Survivors include her husband, Buel Drake.

Pallbearers will be Charles Quinn, Tom Drinkard, Randy Maner, A.D. Arrington, Dewal Lott and Sam Boster.
