Ellard Fugate

Funeral for Ellard Fugate, 48, of Moulton will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Gross and the Rev. Hal Daigre officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. Military graveside Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Fugate died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born Feb. 12, 1953, in Ary, Ky., to Woodrow and Vergie Harvey Fugate.

He was a member of Harvey Bend Church in Kentucky, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a retired transfer press operator at General Motors.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Weems Fugate of Moulton; one daughter, Tanya Fugate Hill of Trinity; five brothers, Monroe Fugate of Trinity Park, Ill., Sewell Fugate of Phil Campbell, James Shelton Fugate of Orland Park, Ill., Norman Fugate of Tinley Park, Ill., and Dale Fugate of Moulton; three sisters, Rosie Bell Woolum of Booneville, Miss., Ella Faye Sullivan of Paragould, Ark., and Wanda Ann Napier of Booneville, Miss.; and two grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Monroe Fugate, Sewell Fugate, James Shelton Fugate, Norman Fugate, Dale Fugate and Terry Sullivan.

Sarah Elizabeth Chambers Hoffman

ATHENS -- Funeral for Sarah Elizabeth Chambers Hoffman, 92, of Athens, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with George Dudley officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Ms. Hoffman died Thursday, Nov. 22, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born Aug. 31, 1909, in Limestone County to Richard Alonzo Chambers and Kate Miller Chambers.

She was a retired schoolteacher, who was employed by the Limestone County Board of Education. She was a member of Alabama Retired Teachers Association and the First Christian Church.

Survivors include two nephews, Richard Wiley Chambers and Paul "Buddy" Chambers, both of Athens.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Alabama Boys and Girls Ranch.

Verneda King

Funeral for Verneda King, 72, of Decatur will be Saturday at noon at First Baptist Church in Courtland with the Rev. Otis Nelms officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Gardens with Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. King died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Dec. 29, 1929, to Fred and Jessie Lee Swope.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Courtland, its choir, and its usher board. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Pride, Chapter 542.

Survivors include five sons, Robert Woods of Decatur, Ernest King of Hartselle, Percy Jones of Chattanooga, James Woods of Trenton, N.J., and Hershell King of Bessemer; one daughter, Mary Anne Woods of Oakland, Calif.; three sisters, Ola Minor of Decatur; Delores Brown and Nancy Hamilton, both of Rochester, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Andrew Lerves Legg

ATHENS -- Funeral for Andrew Lerves Legg, 79, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Ron Owens, Arvid McGuire, Mike Davis and John Bullington officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family was to receive friends two hours before the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Legg died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at his home. He was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Limestone County to Oscar Legg and Pearlie Owens Legg. He was retired from Monsanto Chemical Company. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Central Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Berzett Legg; one son, Andy Legg of Athens; one sister, Katherine Smith of Athens; and one grandson.

Pallbearers were to be John Bullington, Tom Scott, Marvin Black, Morris Schrimsher, Raymond Trafton, Tom Corum, Calvin Tidwell and Amos Black.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Athens-Limestone County or Ghana Work Fund, 315 Christopher Dr., Athens, AL. 35611.

Carl Sherman Royer

Funeral for Carl Sherman Royer, 83, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Royer died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Lawrence County, to James Earnest Royer and Florence Hampton Royer.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served five years and attained the rank of sergeant. He retired from Wolverine Tube after 27 years.

Survivors include his wife, Twilight McWhorter Royer.

Pallbearers will be Tim Sharp, Ewell Russell, Ramon Royer, Mark McWhorter, Joel McWhorter and Greg Napps.

Nancy Ovella Bain
ATHENS -- Funeral for Nancy Ovella Bain, 88, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Bobby Robinson officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bain died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at her home. She was born Sept. 28, 1913, in Pulaski, Tenn. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Limestone County. Mrs. Bain also was a member of Mount Zion Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Grady Bain of Athens; two brothers, James Howard Bain of Gardendale and John Walt Bain of Decatur; and one sister, Carrie Mae Wallace of Waterford, Mich.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Toone Sr., Tommy Toone Jr., John Gohier, Glenn Bracken, Billy Tucker and Thurman Jones.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County, P.O. Box 626, Athens, Al 35613.

Millard Junior Beardon

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Millard Junior Bearden, 69, of Union Hill will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Peace officiating.

Burial will be in Valhermosa Holiness Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Beardon died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born April 24, 1932, in Jackson County, to Millard Fillmore Beardon and Mae Hugh Hodge Beardon. He was a concrete finisher and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include four sons, David Beardon of Lacey's Spring, Wesley Beardon of Shelbyville, Jeff Beardon and Greg Beardon, both of Union Hill; two daughters, Deborah Beardon and Teresa Beardon Smith, both of Union Grove; one brother, William Bearden and Jerry Beardon, both of Lacey's Spring, three sisters, Edna Beardon of Grant, Mary Katherine Whittaker and Nellie Faye Bearden, both of Lacey's Spring; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Christine Holland Cagle

Funeral for Christine Holland Cagle, 92, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Mike King and Larry Little officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cagle died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Jan. 31, 1909, in Lawrence County, to Irvine Holland and Della Gillespie Holland. She was a homemaker, a member of Grant Street Church of Christ and the widow of Neal Cagle.

Survivors include two sons, Newell Cagle of Decatur and Johnny Cagle of Huntsville; two brothers, Neal Holland Sr., and Thomas Holland, both of Decatur; one sister, Elizabeth Bingham of Hillsboro; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Neal Holland Jr., Bob Holland, Tony Stockton, Farol Little, Baxter Cagle and Larry Mitchell.

Lula Mae Flannagan

ATHENS -- Funeral for Lula Mae Flannagan, 69, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Randy Davis officiating.

Burial will be in Reunion Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Flannagan died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born May 2, 1932, in Rogersville. She attended First Baptist Church in Athens.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Flannagan of Athens and Clyde Ray Flannagan of Florida; one brother, Herman Waterson of Ripley, Tenn.; two sisters, Patsy Stewart of Ripley, Tenn. and Mattie Pitts of Huntsville.

Pallbearers will be John Curtis, Lee Bradford, Landon Curtis, David Hargrove, Monroe Broadway and Doyle Lott.

James Garland King

ATHENS -- Funeral for James Garland King, 76, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Gooch officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. King died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Athens Convalescent Center. He was born Feb. 2, 1925, in Limestone County to Raymond King and Lena Griggs King and was retired from Tennessee Wheel. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Nashville.

Survivors include one brother, Horace C. King of Athens; and one sister, Bert Miller of Athens.

Rev. Henry Jackson Pendleton Sr.

Funeral for the Rev. Henry Jackson Pendleton, 90, of Green brier will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at New Haven Primitive Baptist Church in Belle Mina with the Rev. McKinely Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Ragland Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mr. Pendleton died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2001, at his home. He was born May 17, 1911, in Green brier, to the Rev. Charlie Louis Pendleton and Mary Matthews Pendleton. He was pastor of New Haven P.B. Church for 43 years and also pastored at Living Waters Triana P.B. Church and Chelsea P.B. Church. He was past master of Cottonhill Lodge 472 and was the widower of Emma Williams Pendleton. He was the father of the late Mary Pendleton Lanier and Robert Pendleton Sr.

Survivors include two sons, Henry Pendleton Jr. of Green brier and James Pendleton of Huntsville; one brother the Rev. Joe Pendleton of Huntsville; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and members of Cottonhill Lodge 472 will be pallbearers.

G.W. Roberts

Funeral for G.W. Roberts, 68, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Reed officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Roberts died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Panama City, Fla. He was born June 21, 1933, in Morgan County, to Charles Barry Roberts and Maggie Viola Walden Roberts. He was a construction worker and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Roberts; one son, Dale Roberts of Morrison, Tenn., three daughters, Sarah "Lisa" Brown of Panama City, Samantha Lynn Cottingham of Decatur and Tracy Dawn Roberts of Trinity; three brothers, Richard Roberts of Battle Creek, Mich., Ferrell Roberts of Hartselle and Charles Roberts Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dan Johnson, Greg Johnson, Jeremy Roberts and Donald Owens.
