Mary Eula Witt

MOULTON -- Funeral for Mary Eula Witt, 89, of Hatton will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Elmer Fowler and the Rev. Phillip Potter officiating.

Burial will be in the Witt Family Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Witt died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Walker County to C.J. Potter Sr. and Margaret Phillips Potter. She was the widow of Miller P. Witt, mother of the late Gwyneth P. Witt Sr. and sister of the late, W.T. Potter, C.J. Potter Jr., James Hubie Potter, Mae Lawrimore and Helen Hood. She was a charter member of the Hatton Eastern Star and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include five sons, Vinnis Witt of Moulton, Densel Witt of Florence, Wayne Witt and Larry Witt, both of Hatton, and Edwin Witt of Madison; two daughters, Margaret Blankenship of Hatton and Martha Hughes of Courtland; five brothers, Percy Potter of Leighton, and Claude Potter, Elvert Potter, Edison Potter and Corbett Potter, all of Russellville; one sister, Alice Owens of Jasper, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Ruby Nell Parrott Dunlap
DRESDEN, Tenn. -- Funeral for Ruby Nell Parrott Dunlap, 75, of Dresden, was to be today at 2 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home with Roger Graham and Tony Smith officiating.

Burial was to be in Lebanon Cemetery.

Mrs. Dunlap died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Methodist Healthcare Volunteer Hospital in Martin, Tenn. She was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Weakley County, Tenn., to Alpheus and Stella Wells Parrott. She was a retired Kellwood employee and a member of Lebanon Church of Christ. She was the widow of Guy Aden Dunlap.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Dunlap of Decatur, and Bobby Dunlap and Ricky Dunlap, both of Dresden; one brother, James Parrott of Dresden; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Bueford Hooper

MOULTON -- Funeral for Bueford Hooper, 72, of Cullman was to be today at 11 a.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Jerry Flemming officiating.

Burial was to be in Landersville Cemetery.

Mr. Hooper died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born June 8, 1929, in Moulton to Newt Hooper and Ida Hooper. He was a retired crane operator for Pittsburgh Steel. He was a United States Army World War II veteran and a member of Cathedral of Praise Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Hooper; three sons Dwight Hooper, Jeff Hooper and Mike Hooper, all of Cullman; one daughter, Deborah Parker of Cullman; one brother, Wayne Hooper of Moulton; one sister, Ola Lawrimore of Moulton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be J.C. Hooper, Marion Smith, Jamie Hooper, Rick Rutherford, James Newell and Ricky Rutherford.

Lucy Berdie Vest

Graveside service for Lucy Berdie Vest, 103, of Decatur and formerly of Hartselle will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Johnson Chapel Cemetery in Danville with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vest died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation for Decatur. She was born Feb. 6, 1898, in Morgan County to Lou Taylor Edmundson and Charles Edmundson.

She was a homemaker and a member of United Methodist Church of Hartselle. She was the widow of Walter B. Vest and the mother of the late Malcolm Vest and Donald Gene Vest.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Free and Evelyn Shelton, both of Decatur; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

David Monroe Chaffin

CULLMAN -- Graveside service for David Monroe Chaffin, 73, of Cullman will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville with Paul Baker officiating and Cullman Heritage Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Chaffin died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at his home. He was born Jan. 13, 1928, in Morgan County to Louis Monroe Chaffin and Mamie Smith Chaffin.

He was a farmer and a chemist for the Tennessee Valley Authority and a security guard for Nicholson File. He was a member of the U.S. Army and Navy reserves.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Minor Chaffin; one son, William Chaffin of Cullman; four brothers, Spencer Chaffin of Fulton, Mo., Sherrill Chaffin of Huntsville, Kenneth Chaffin of Somerville and Larry Chaffin of Priceville; two sisters, Clo Mooneyham of Somerville and Joyce Pennington of Conroe, Texas; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be made to a church or charity of choice.

Ray Hubbard Champion

Funeral for Ray Hubbard Champion, 79, of Somerville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Smothers officiating.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Champion died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born April 29, 1922, in Morgan County to Washington Hubbard Champion and Irene Elizabeth Beasley Champion. He was a member and deacon of New Friendship Baptist Church. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He retired as an aerospace engineering technician from NASA after having worked on the Apollo missions. He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local No. 377 and the widower of Lorene Champion.

Survivors include two sons, John H. Champion and Donald R. Champion, both of Hartselle; four daughters, Fay Yancey of Priceville, Royce Goree and Sheena Dugger, both of Somerville, and Delores Taylor of Decatur; one brother, Millard Champion of Somerville; one sister, Vivian Smith of Somerville; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Annie Mae Charest

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Annie Mae Charest, 85, of Somerville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewitt Crowe officiating.

Burial will be in Center Springs Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Charest died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Sunbridge Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 4, 1916, in Blount County to Alvie Parker and Cora Hopkins Parker. She was a homemaker and a member of Center Springs Methodist Church. She was the widow of Louie Charest.

Survivors include four daughters, Mildred Watkins, Beatrice Freeze and Peggy Dudley, all of Somerville, and Dorothy Ann Wilson of Decatur; one brother, Milton Parker of Somerville; one sister, Mildred Reno of Tennessee; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dean Charest, Bobby Shadden, Wally Steelman, Charles Steelman, Mike Steelman and Bobby Parker.

Zerefie Sherman Fulmer

Memorial service for Zerefie Sherman Fulmer, 84, of Oxnard, Calif., and formerly of Decatur, will be held at a later date at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Fulmer died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at her Oxnard home. She was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Decatur to Charly Sherman and Nejeba Houser Sherman. During World War II, Mrs. Fulmer was a welder at Ingall's Shipyard in Decatur. She moved to Oxnard in 1949. She was a member of Santa Clara Catholic Church for 52 years and retired as a trust clerk from Camarillo State Hospital. She was the widow of Harry E. Fulmer, her husband of 65 years, and the sister of the late Harvey Sherman, the late Jack D. Sherman, and the late Mary Alexander.

Survivors include one son, Charles William Fulmer of Oxnard; two brothers, Ruben Sherman of Arlington, Texas, and Charlie Sherman of Decatur; three sisters, Alma Lee Sherman Guagy of Ventura, Calif., and Selma Sherman Domit and Bee Sherman Bostany, both of Birmingham; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities or Hospice of the Valley.

Fannie Robinson Garth

Funeral for Fannie Robinson Garth, 85, of Somerville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Owens officiating.

Burial will be in Somerville Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Garth died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at South Morgan Health Care. She was born June 3, 1916, in Morgan County to Joseph and Dolly Aldridge. She was a member of Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church and the widow of Raymond Robinson. She was the sister-in-law of Virgie Aldridge of Decatur.

Survivors include her daughter, Phillis Minor of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

William Henry 'Buck' Malone

ATHENS -- Funeral for William Henry "Buck" Malone, 76, of Athens will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Village View United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul D. Hillard Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Thatch-Mann Cemetery with Peoples Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Malone died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at his home.

Survivors include one sister, Maggie Ratliff of Athens.

Bessie Delana Spivey McMillan

TRINITY -- Funeral for Bessie Delana Spivey McMillan, 88, of Danville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Delashaw officiating.

Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before services.

Mrs. McMillan died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Dec. 6, 1912, in Morgan County to Zebie Spivey and Elizabeth Waits Spivey. She was a homemaker and a member of Lebanon Church of God.

Survivors include one daughter, Doyce McMillan Holt Slattery of Danville; one grandson; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Devaney, David Devaney, Ricky Smith, Eddy Coker, Mike Weeks and Robert Huffines.

Dave Rutherford

MOULTON -- Funeral for Dave Rutherford, 74, of Town Creek will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Dexter Rutherford officiating.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Rutherford died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Lawrence County to Colby and Mamie Rutherford. He was a farmer and a member of Hatton Church of Christ.

Survivors include four sons, Greg Rutherford, Jeron Rutherford and Rod Rutherford, all of Town Creek, and David Rutherford of Moulton; one daughter, Paulette Masterson of Town Creek; four brothers, Jim Rutherford, Alek Rutherford and Herman Rutherford, all of Town Creek, and Pete Rutherford of Moulton; one sister, Dorothy Sprinkle of Town Creek; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Lois Rutherford

MOULTON -- Funeral for Lois Rutherford, 58, of Town Creek will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Hall officiating.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rutherford died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at her home. She was born March 12, 1943, in Moulton to Albert and Nola Burfield. She was a homemaker, a member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church and the mother of the late Chuck Riddle.

Survivors include three sons, Jeff Riddle of Moulton, Tim Riddle of Hatton and Shane Latham of Town Creek; two brothers, Jimmy Burfield of Trinity and Hoyt Burfield of Nashville; three sisters, Betty Woodard of Elgin, Norine Mizell of Danville and Carolyn Smith of Mt. Hope; and 10 grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.
