ATHENS -- Graveside service for Sarah "Donald" McGregor Phillips, 84, of Athens and formerly of Mobile, was to be today at 11 a.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens with McConnell Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.
The family was to receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland.
Mrs. Phillips died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Aug. 28, 1917, in Mobile County to Asa Bratton McGregor and Mary Etta Schell McGregor. She was a lifelong resident of Mobile until she moved to Athens in 1995 to live with her daughter. She was a homemaker and worked with the Girl Scouts of America. She was a member of Azalea City Quilters, Satsuma First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Joy Circle. She was the widow of Harris E. Phillips Sr. and the mother of the late Sarah Frances Phillips.
Survivors include one son, Harris E. Phillips of Satsuma; one daughter, Donna Cotton of Athens; one brother, Giles McGregor of Grand Bay; three sisters, Nell Martin of Sun City West, Ariz., Jane Cheer of Eckhart, Colo. and Betty Gaston of Fairhope; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Athens Memorial Fund or Hospice of Limestone County.
Howard Lee Posey
CULLMAN -- Funeral for Howard Lee Posey, 73, of Cullman will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home with the Rev. Preston Brooks and the Rev. David Posey officiating.
Burial will be in New Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Posey died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 21, 1928, in Cullman County to Jessie W. Posey and Lillie Mae Snow Posey. He was a millwright and worked at Buentner Brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Alice E. Posey; three sons, Daniel Posey of Huntsville, Bobby Posey and Randy Posey, both of Cullman; one daughter, Marilyn Thomas of Metamora, Mich.; one stepson, Danny Bates of Hartselle; three stepdaughters, Anita Hensley of Somerville, Melissa Knighten of Bremen and Sue Metcalf of Cullman; two brothers, Harold Posey and Sherman Posey, both of Margaret; two sisters, Ruth Jones of Guntersville and Sarah Buck of Springville; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Wallace Clifford Russell
Funeral for Wallace Clifford Russell, 78, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with the funeral home directing. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Russell died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born in Morgan County on Oct. 27, 1923, to Leon Russell and Myrtle Vernor Russell. Mr. Russell retired from EMI, where he worked as an electric motor repairman.
Survivors include three brothers, Jesse Russell and Jackie Russell, both of Athens, and Joe Russell of Decatur; five sisters, Daisy Osborn of Priceville, Devenard White of Memphis, and Charlotte Russell, Deborah McMurtrie and Linda Morris, all of Decatur; one granddaughter; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
Nephews will be pallbearers.
Lorene Simmons
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Lorene Simmons, 74, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church with the Rev. Myron Mooney officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Simmons died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at her home. She was born Nov. 5, 1927, in Tennessee to Vander F. Roberts and Nanna Lou Foster Roberts. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. She was the mother of the late Roger James.
Survivors include her husband, Elton Malcolm Simmons; three sons, Marlin James of Eva, Buddy Simmons of Hartselle, and Ernie James of Decatur; three sisters, Frances McCutcheon, Ann Simmons and Jean Stricklin, all of Hartselle; one sister, Lillian Abner of Hartselle; two brothers, Roy A. Roberts and David Roberts, both of Hartselle; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wiley Borden, David Grantland, Josh James, Allen McCutcheon, Adam Simmons, and Ben Thrasher.
John Henry Slaughter Sr.
Funeral for John Henry Slaughter Sr., 66, of Decatur will be Wednesday at noon at Garner Memorial CME Church with the Rev. Maxie Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Slaughter died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Decatur to John Slaughter and Aray Tatum. He was a member of Jubilee House of Prayer and served in the armed forces during the Korean War. He was the widower of Clara Elliot Slaughter.
Survivors include seven sons, John Henry Slaughter Jr. of Killeen, Texas, William Jeager Slaughter of Africa, and Archie D. Slaughter, John Henry Slaughter III, Eddie Ollie Slaughter, Jacob Slaughter and Barry Slaughter, all of Decatur; six daughters, Marion Shannon, Marie Slaughter Davis, Octavia Bellman and Emma Cisse, all of Decatur, Patricia Slaughter of Athens, and Annie Garner of Town Creek; his mother of Decatur; one brother, Thomas "A.D." Reed of Nashville; two sisters, Betsy Richards of Houston, Texas, and Estella Lewis of Harvest; 37 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Hoyt Smith
DOUBLE SPRINGS -- Funeral for Hoyt Smith, 73, of Houston, was to be today at 2 p.m. at Moreland New Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Rey Riddle officiating.

Mr. Smith died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at his home. He was born April 30, 1928, in Alabama to Byke Smith and Tressie Smith. He worked in the mobile home industry.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Wood Smith; one son, Buddy Smith of Moulton; one daughter, Margaret Smith Jones of Moulton; one brother, Willard Smith of Moulton; two sisters, Mable Jackson and Ora D. Herring, both of Moulton; three grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Malinda P. Tittsworth

Mrs. Tittsworth died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Morgan County to Jimmie Lorance and Minnie Deberry Lorance. She was a member of Pattillo Street Church of God and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Willie A. Tittsworth; two sons, William Jan Tittsworth of Ocala, Fla., and Jimmy David Tittsworth of North Potomac, Md.; one daughter, Dorothy Miller of Decatur; one sister, Veria T. Ramey of St. Cloud, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Billy Blackwood, Dustin Higdon, Eddie Higdon, Shawn Holaway, Johnny Kyker and Jim Miller.
Lois Ann Norman Banks

Mrs. Banks died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center .
She was born June 27, 1937, to James W. Ray and Verda Ray in Lawrence County.
She was a member of Beltline Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Lorna Watkins and Tracy Norman, both of Decatur; three brothers, Quinton M. Ray of Nashville, Gerald A. Ray of Decatur and Gordon W. Ray of Moulton; and three grandchildren.

Ophelia 'Bolan' Higdon
HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Ophelia "Bolan" Higdon, 60, of Goodrich, Mich., will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Lebanon Baptist Cemetery in Falkville with the Rev. Jack Garnett officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Higdon died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, in Goodrich, Mich.
She was the widow of Chester Higdon.

She was born March 31, 1940, in Alabama to Thomas Grant Summers and Syble Counts Summers. She was a homemaker.

She was born April 15, 1920, in Morgan County to George Berry Kirby and Essie Mae Proctor Kirby. She was a homemaker and the widow of Toley D. Wilborn.
Survivors include one son, Franklin D. Wilborn of Hartselle; four daughters, Wilma Richards of Dallas, Pa., Marlene Belcher of Hartselle and Janice Luker and Joyce Atchley, both of Danville; one brother, Otis Kirby of Decatur; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
