Ann Childers

PRICEVILLE -- Funeral for Ann Childers, 53, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Priceville Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Henderson officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Childers died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 12, 1948, in Georgia, to Clarence Edward Norris and Mary Maxine Veal Brannon. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Armon T. Childers Jr.; two sons, Dale Swafford of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Dewayne Childers of Decatur; two daughters, Tammy Swafford of Jamestown, Tenn., and Jennifer Phillips of Decatur; her mother of Decatur; five brothers, Jim Brannon of Indiana, Johnny Brannon of Jamestown and Jeff Brannon, Jeremy Brannon and Joe Brannon, all of Decatur; one sister, Julie Pendergrass of Jamestown; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be R.C. McClendon, Dewayne Childers, Johnny Waters, Bobby McClendon, Thomas Phillips and Charles Austin.

Memorials may be made to Somerville Volunteer Fire Department.

Jeffie Ben 'J.B.' Clevenger

ATHENS -- Funeral for Jeffie Ben "J.B." Clevenger, 73, of Athens will be today at 11 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Keith Moyers officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Clevenger died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at his home. He was born May 19, 1928, in New Market, to William Allen Clevenger and Pauline Gaines Clevenger. He was a Baptist and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, he served for 13 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and seven years in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Word Clevenger; one son, Dickie Thomas of Athens; and three daughters, Mary Jane Clevenger of North Carolina, Kathy Burleson of Athens and Shelia Stanford of Athens.

Pallbearers will be Shane Weldon, Stan Stanford, Stan Stanford Jr., Glen Stanford, Wesley Staggs and Dickie Thomas.

Dalton Richard 'Dody' Cornett

ATHENS -- Funeral for Dalton Richard "Dody" Cornett, 27, of Athens will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Pat Lawrence officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Cornett died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Oct. 15, 1974, in Limestone County, to Butch and Shelia Cornett. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was a former employee of Hight's Mini Mart.

In addition to his father, survivors include two grandmothers, Elizabeth Hight and Priscilla Cornett, both of Athens.

Mary Anne Green way

ATHENS -- Funeral for Mary Anne Green way, 71, of Athens will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Roger Keith Holley officiating.

Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Green way died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Nov. 10, 1930, in Giles County, Tenn., to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rose. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Wendell Green way Sr.; two sons, Loyd F. Green way of Elkmont and Charles Wendell Green way Jr. of Athens; one daughter, Elaine Dunnavant of Pulaski, Tenn.; one sister, Dorothy Holley of Pulaski; four half brothers, Julian Rose of Nashville, Austin Rose and Edward Rose, both of Leoma, Tenn., and Danny Rose of Rosehill, Tenn.; two half sisters, Hazel Lowery of Nashville and Jean Rose of Leoma; one stepsister, Mary Newton of Pulaski; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Josephine Hood

FLORENCE -- Funeral for Josephine Hood, 52, of Buffalo, N.Y., formerly of Town Creek, will be Wednesday at noon at Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church with Thomas Sparks officiating.

Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery in Town Creek with Thompson and Son Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before Wednesday's funeral.

Ms. Hood died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, in Buffalo. She was born June 25, 1949, in Lawrence County, to Cole Hood Jr. and Reva Leola Hood. A graduate of Central High School, she spent two years in the U.S. Job Corps before arriving in Buffalo. In Buffalo, she worked at Niagara Lutheran Church and joined St. Luke African-Methodist-Episcopal Zion Church.

Survivors include four brothers, Lee Hood, Tommie Hood, Loyse Hood and Larry Hood, all of Buffalo; and four sisters, Ernestine Hood Martin of Town Creek, Willodean Steward of Leighton, Wordine Warren of Town Creek and Angela Freeman of Town Creek.

Zelma Taft McNutt

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Zelma Taft McNutt, 90, of Hartselle will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Carter and the Rev. Vivian Chapel officiating.

Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. McNutt died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born April 29, 1911, in Lawrence County, to Emmet McNutt and Dolly Harris McNutt. He loved to hunt and fish as well as attend his son's and grandson's ball games. He worked as a farmer and a truck driver for the Morgan County Commission, District 3.

Survivors include two sons, David Wayne McNutt of Hartselle and Winfred Taft Story of Decatur; one sister, Emma Lou Dunn of Falkville; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mark Hembree, Jimmy Johnson, Denny Morris, Jeff Robinson, Johnny Wilson and Heath Winsett.

Joe Pylant

ATHENS -- Funeral for Joe Pylant of Athens will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery in Elkmont. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. Mr. Pylant died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Athens Convalescent Center.

Tommie Eldridge Skinner

Funeral for Tommie Eldridge Skinner, 81, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Brady McCullough officiating.

Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery in Cullman County at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Skinner died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Birmingham. He was born Oct. 28, 1920, in Cullman County, to Frank and Eddie Rooker Skinner.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Pitts Skinner; two daughters, Twilih Nickens and Tommie Kay Clark, both of Decatur; one stepdaughter, Margaret Lester of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles Lester, Mike Darnell, Wade Skinner, Mark Skinner, Johnny Nickens and Ray Holt.

Joyce Butler Utley

ATHENS -- Funeral for Joyce Butler Utley, 61, of Athens will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Crouch officiating.

Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Madisonville, Ky., at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Utley died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center in Davenport.

She was born March 9, 1940, in Athens, to Arnal G. Butler and Earline Butler. She was a member of Belmore Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Utley; two daughters, Jane Ellen Henderson of Athens and Teresa Higginbotham Soule of Nashville; three stepdaughters, Carla Kay Utley and Rhonda Utley Word, both of Dallas, Texas, and Patricia Utley Hodges of Madison; two brothers, Jackie Butler and Raymond Butler, both of Athens; two grandchildren; and eight step grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Joyce B. Utley Memorial Fund, attention Linda Griggs, at AmSouth Bank, P.O. Box 1211, Athens AL 35612.

Timothy Keith Hooper

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Timothy Keith Hooper, 42, of Fayetteville, Tenn., was to be today at 2 p.m. at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home.

Burial was to be in New Hope Cemetery No. 2.

Mr. Hooper died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, in Fayetteville. He was born Nov. 7, 1959, in Fort Knox, Ky., to Eugene Hooper and Virginia C. McKenzie Hooper. He was an electrician and employed at the Madison County Courthouse.

Survivors include two daughters, Mandy Rachelle Hooper of Baileyton and Meagan Leigh Holt of Locust Fork; his mother; one brother, Gary Edgar Hooper of Huntsville; three sisters, Sherri E. Moseley of Decatur, Paula Kim Howse of Fairview and Wanda Bawsel of Madison; and two grandchildren.

Alvin Hayden Hopkins

Funeral for Alvin Hayden Hopkins, 79, of Somerville will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hopkins died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Parkway Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 22, 1922, in Blount County to James Alvin Hopkins and Sarah Emma Davis Hopkins. He was a retired millwright, who taught welding classes at Charleston County Technical school in Charleston, S.C.

Survivors include four children; two brothers, James A. Hopkins of Anniston and Billy R. Hopkins of Hartselle; two sisters, Faye Hopkins of Somerville and Pat Christenberry of Durham, N.C.; and 10 grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Martha Effie Hughes

LAKE CITY, Tenn. -- Funeral for Martha Effie Hughes, 94, of Clinton will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Holly-Gamble Funeral Home with the Rev. John Burleson and the Rev. Mike Petty officiating.

Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 until time of the funeral.

Ms. Hughes died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at her home. She was born July 17, 1901, in Tuscaloosa to Monroe Kellum and Annie Kellum. She was the widow of John C. Hughes and the sister of two brothers and four sisters who are deceased.

Survivors include five sons, John W. Hughes of Decatur, R.D. Hughes of Oak Ridge, Charles Hughes of Powell, and H.K. Hughes and Jimmy Hughes, both of Clinton; three daughters, Louise Gray of Oak Ridge, Johnnie Ruth Blankenship of Decatur and Ann Jenkins of Clinton; 28 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Thomas F. Kilpatrick

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Thomas F. Kilpatrick, 91, of Vinemont was to be today at 2 p.m. at Corinth West United Methodist Church with Roland Westmoreland and Tim Aris officiating.

Burial was to be in the adjoining cemetery with Cullman Heritage Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Kilpatrick died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Cullman Medical Regional Center. He was born Jan. 26, 1910, in Winston County to Dock Kilpatrick and Mary Kilpatrick. He was a farmer and a member of the Church of God. He was the father of the late James Dock Kilpatrick and Claudie Lee Kilpatrick.

Survivors include seven grandchildren, Jimmy Kilpatrick of Huntsville, Anthony Smith of Fairview, Jerry Kilpatrick and Crissy Smith, both of Cullman, and Tamelia Lemmons, Tammy Carpenter and Shelia Smith, all of Vinemont; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Rachel Patton

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Rachel Patton, 80, of Huntsville will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Gary Patton and Lowell Sallee officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 5:30 to 8 at the funeral home.

Ms. Patton died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Crestwood Hospital. She was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Bedford County, Tenn., to Ross McNatt and Inda Long McNatt. She was the widow of Marshall E. Patton, a Church of Christ minister.

Survivors include one son, Don Ross Patton of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, LaNelle Patrick of Owens Cross Roads; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
