George Ray Austin

Graveside service with military honors for George Ray Austin, 81, of Decatur will be today at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing and the Rev. Asa Boozer officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service today at the funeral home.

Mr. Austin died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Corinth, Miss., to Charles Andrew Austin and Claudia Jobe Austin.

He was retired as an electrician with Local No. 558 was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille L. Austin of Decatur; two sons, Gary R. Austin of Falkville and Dennis W. Austin of Trinity; two daughters, Janie Morrow of Hatton and Connie McNeal of Decatur; one brother, Arthur Lee Austin of Sheffield; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Aaron Bernice Clark

Funeral for Aaron Bernice Clark, 81, of Moulton will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Brady McCullough officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Mausoleum with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at funeral home.

Mr. Clark died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born May 3, 1920, in Lawrence County, to Daniel Edgar Clark and Sarah Margaret Wade Clark.

He was retired from Babcock and Wilcox as a boilermaker-erector and was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Mount Zion Masonic Lodge No. 542.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita K. Clark; two sons, Billy Joe Clark of Byron, Ga. and Ronald Clark of Moulton; one brother, Almon Clark of Decatur; two sisters, Lona Folette of Decatur and Alice Suggs of Moulton; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be D.A. Ray, James Nicholson, Dwight Bowling, Eugene McKee, Homer Long and Floyd Shankle.

Herma Helen Corum

MOULTON -- Funeral for Herma Helen Corum, 77, of Moulton will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Jackie Shelton and the Rev. Darryl Wood officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Corum died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Herman Sparks and Lena Armstrong Sparks. She was a homemaker and the widow of Douglas Corum. Mrs. Corum was the mother of the late James Douglas "Jim" Corum.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Gail Corum Burleson of Decatur, Sandra Jo Corum and Anita Sue Corum, both of Moulton; and two grandchildren.

Herman Lamar Hennessy

Funeral for Herman Lamar Hennessy, 82, of Decatur will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Culotta officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hennessy died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Pittsburgh, Penn.

He graduated from Carnegie Mellon with a bachelor's degree in architecture and was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

Mr. Hennessy was owner of Hennessy Aluminum Products and was president of Decatur Iron and Steel.

He was a member of the Decatur Country Club, the Kiwanis Club, Knights of Columbus and he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as an officer in World War II.

Mr. Hennessy was married to Rosemary Powers Hennessy for 50 years before her death.

Survivors include four sons, Timothy C. Hennessy of Birmingham, Michael Aloysious Hennessy of Mobile, Daniel Mares Hennessy of Talledega and Patrick Joseph Hennessy of Decatur; four daughters, Molly Ann Hennessy of Mobile, Bridget Van Aller of Orange Beach, Maggie Hennessy Bates of Fairhope and Nora Hennessy Clay of Decatur; and sixteen grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels.

Curtis Alden Hicks

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Curtis Alden Hicks, 92, of Eufaula will be today at 2 p.m. at Athens City Cemetery with the Rev. Curtis Coleman officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends this afternoon from 12:30 to 1:30 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hicks died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Abbeville. He was born Dec. 29, 1909, in Dutton, to James Buchanan Hicks and Cumilla Sewell Hicks.

He was graduate of Jackson State University and was retired from the United States Department of Agriculture as a district fieldman.

Mr. Hicks was a member of First United Methodist Church of Athens where he a member of the men's Bible class.

He was a member of the Limestone County Historical Society and RSVP, and spent many hours volunteering as curator for the Houston Memorial Library Museum.

Mr. Hicks also was the oldest member of the Progress Masonic Lodge in Pisgah and was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Sons of the American Revolution.

He was a member of Magna Charter Barons and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was the husband of the late Gwendolyn Ann Gross Hicks.

Survivors include three daughters, Molly Hicks Hagood of Eufaula, Martha Hicks Dockery of Athens and Patsy Hicks Johnson of Nalerville, Ill.; four grandsons; and one great-granddaughter,

Pallbearers will be John Patrick Hagood, Dr. Thomas Lanier Hagood, Curtis Daniel Johnson, Dr. John Thomas Hagood, William Herman Johnson Sr., Michael James Dockery and William Herman Johnson Jr.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Athens.

Elsie "Granny" Holden

ATHENS -- Funeral for Elsie "Granny" Holden, 84, of Athens will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Andrew Marks and the Rev. Lemeul Green officiating.

Burial will be in Elk View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Holden died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Iowa and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Business and Professional Women's Club and was the former owner of Tres Chic Coiffures and the Ice Cream Parlor. She was the widow of Sgt. Frank V. Holden.

Survivors include one daughter, Vicki Marks of Athens; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Micky Stay, Bobby Marks Jr., Robin Stay, Tony Campbell, Phillip Stay and Eric Griffin.

Nettie Elizabeth Huggins

ONEONTA -- Funeral for Nettie Elizabeth Huggins, 86, of Oneonta will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Union Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Barnett and the Rev. David Julen officiating.

Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Huggins died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002. She was a community caregiver and a lifelong member of Union Hill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Huggins was the widow of Guy Huggins and was the mother of the late Harold Wayne Huggins.

Survivors include two sons, Ellis Huggins of Hoover and John Allen Huggins of Bainbridge, Ga.; three daughters, Juanita Buckner of Auburn, Frances Barnett of Hoover and Nancy Gentry of Oneonta; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Naomi Ruth Tackett Jacobs

Funeral for Naomi Ruth Tackett Jacobs, 53, of Decatur will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Sutton and the Rev. Raymond Orozco officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jacobs died Friday Jan. 11, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Feb. 21, 1948, in Moulton to Albert Tackett and Dessie Tackett and was retired as an Xray technician. Mrs. Jacobs was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Jayne Kelso of Decatur; her parents, of Decatur; one brother, L.C. Tackett of Decatur; two sisters, Wanda Kimbril and Jenell Tackett, both of Decatur; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be John McMunn, Benny McMunn, Stephen McMunn, Stanley McMunn, Shane Kimbril and Chuck Kimbril.

Linda K. Lee

HARTSELLE -- Linda K. Lee, 58, of Decatur, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital.

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1 to 3. at Peck Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m.

Peck Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

James Rabon "Jim" Martin

PRICEVILLE -- Funeral for James Rabon "Jim" Martin, 70, of Hartselle will be today at 3 p.m. at Hartselle Church of Christ with Phillip Hines, Barry Binion and Mike Nix officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens.

Mr. Martin died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born July 5, 1931, in Walker County, to Charles Robert Martin and Pauline Furgeson Martin.

He was retired from Cullman Products as a tool and die designer. Mr. Martin was the father of the late Curtis Wayne Martin and the brother of the late J.V. Martin, Charles Clifford Martin and June Frost.

He was a member of Hartselle Church of Christ, a U.S. Amy veteran of the Korean War and minister of various area Churches of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Whitlow Martin; two sons, Michael Rabon Martin of Helena and Stevon Lynn Martin of Hillsboro; two daughters, Donna Martin Glenn of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Cindy Martin Reeder of Hartselle; his stepfather, C. Onzolo Abbott; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Clarence Walls, Don Wear, Clifford Lee, Gene Hayes, Willard Coffey and Kenneth Rogers.

Memorials may be made to the Hartselle Church of Christ Benevolent Program.

Esther Gordon Shepherd

RALIEGH -- Graveside service for Esther Gordon Shepherd, 92, of Raleigh, N.C., will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Raleigh Memorial Park with Brown-Wynne Funeral Home directing.

There will be a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. at the Springmoor Life Care Center Auditorium.

Mrs. Shepherd died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Springmoor Life Care Health Center. She was born Aug. 9, 1909, in Decatur to the Rev. Myron Wilcox Gordon and Mary Crook Gordon.

She earned a masters degree from Cornell University and received a bachelor's degree from Catawba College.

She taught junior high school in Raleigh from 1956 to 1971, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma in Raleigh and Phi Lambda Theta at Cornell.

Survivors include one son, M. Gordon Shepherd of Jamestown, N.C.; two daughters, Sarah Shepherd Lyon of Manassas, Va. and Mary Shepherd Seith of Irvine, Calif.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Springmoor Fund, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27615.
