Mable Irene Green e

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Mable Irene Green e, 85, of Lester will be today at 10:30 a.m. at Hester Cemetery.

Ms. Green e died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Dec. 27, 1916, in Webster County, W. Va. She was retired from West Virginia's Food Stamp Office. She was cared for by her niece Charlotte Gatlin of Lester.

Survivors include one sister, Carrie Rice of Beckley, W. Va.

Bertie Lee Hayes

TRUSSVILLE -- Funeral for Bertie Lee Hayes, 95, of Birmingham will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Trussville Chapel with the Rev. Gerry Hearin and the Rev. Dr. Charles Lee officiating.

Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 5:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hayes died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in Birmingham. She was born Sept. 25, 1906, in Boaz. She was a member of Huffman United Methodist Church and the widow of the Rev. T. Homer Hayes.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald Hayes of Decatur and Bobby Hayes of Attalla; two daughters, June Bryan and Joanne Miner, both of Birmingham; one sister, Esther Pike of Gadsden; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randy Hayes, Jerry Dale Hayes, Robin Hayes, Tom Hayes, Timothy Bryan and Todd Miner.

Donnie Joe Hill

ATHENS -- Funeral for Donnie Joe Hill, 40, of Elkmont will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. John Norman officiating.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hill died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Dec. 9, 1961, in Limestone County to Andy Hill and Verlie Hill. He was a self-employed roofer.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Marie Treat; one brother, Donald Eudean Hill of Athens; and three sisters, Mary "Jean" Ashby of Elkmont and Joyce Robbins and Shirley Haggermaker, both of Athens.

His nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Pearl Pennington

GARDENDALE -- Funeral for Pearl Pennington, 81, of Gardendale will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel with the Rev. Jack L. Rollins and Matthew Hollis officiating.

Burial will be in Walker Chapel Cemetery in Fultondale. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pennington died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at Gardendale. She was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Jefferson County to Wesley Goodwin and Emma Goodwin. She was the widow of Huey Pennington.

Survivors include three sons, James L. Pennington of Fultondale, Steve Pennington of Gardendale and Ronald Pennington of Warrior; two daughters, Janie Brown of Decatur and Linda K. Jackson of Hayden; two brothers, Gayle Goodwin of Fultondale and Gordon Goodwin of Hayden; two sisters, Juanita Leatherwood of Fultondale and Jane Loggins of Adamsville; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and great-grandsons will be pallbearers.

Josephine Corum Prince

Funeral for Josephine Corum Prince, 88, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Bullard and the Rev. Hugh Bohlin officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Prince died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at South Morgan Health Care Center. She was born May 16, 1913, to Dave and Linnie Corum of Wheeler. She was a member of Cedar Ridge Baptist Church and was the widow of Hurley C. Prince.

Survivors include one son, Billy G. Prince of Decatur; one sister, Christeen Barnes of Decatur; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Barnes, Gilbert Barnes, Jeremy Roberts, Josh Roberts, Troy Knopps and Tim Newsom.

Almeda Burden Smith

MOULTON -- Funeral for Almeda Burden Smith, 87, of Moulton will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Moulton Church of God with the Rev. Rick Taylor and the Rev. David Calhoun officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Garden. The family will receive friends tonight beginning at 6 at the church.

Mrs. Smith died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at her home. She was born May 9, 1914, in Lawrence County to William Thomas Burden and Ida Canup Burden. She was an inspector for Lawrence Corporation. She was the widow of Auburn Smith and the sister of the late Londery Lee Burden, the late Cortez Burden and the late Christine Thorsensten.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Smith of Moulton and James "Jim" Waymon of Courtland; one daughter, Jane Baldwin of Moulton; one brother, Leon Burden of Sebring, Fla.; three sisters, Jean Sherrill and Carrie Boyles both of Moulton and Minnie Lee Terry of Decatur; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will include Kim Reeves, Harlan Reeves, Ben Logston, Billy Lee Terry, Thomas Hill, Gerald Terry, Jackie Sherrill and Johnny Towe.

Ramona Terry

TRINITY -- Funeral for Ramona Terry, 55, of Moulton will be Sunday 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Pullen officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Ms. Terry died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born April 20, 1946, in Lawrence County. She was the daughter of the late Austin W. Terry.

Survivors include her mother, Ruby Terry of Hillsboro; two brothers, Jimmy Terry of Hillsboro and Onnis Terry of Trinity; and two sisters, Bernita Cartee and Rose Marie Key, both of Moulton.

Joell Beasley
ATHENS -- Funeral for Dana Joell Beasley, 31, of Lester will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Blankenship officiating.

Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Ms. Beasley died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Aug. 15, 1970, in Giles County, Tenn.

Survivors include her parents, Robert and Joyce Beasley of Lester; one brother, Kevin Beasley of Lester; and her grandfather, Odell Thompson of Minor Hill, Tenn.

Rev. Charles Davis Brooks Jr.

Funeral for the Rev. Charles Davis Brooks Jr., 78, of Moulton will be Tuesday at noon at Smith Chapel CME Church in Moulton with the Rev. John Hayes officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Mr. Davis died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Nashville to Charles D. Brooks Sr. and Mable L. Brooks. He was a pastor for various North Central Conference CME congregations and a retired school bus driver for the Lawrence County School System. He was an U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Brooks; five sons, Charles D. Brooks III of Clarksville, Tenn., Oscar D. Brooks of Moulton, Kenneth Brooks of Hillsboro, Tommy Brooks of Cadiz, Ky., and Edward Brooks of Decatur; three daughters, Doris Weakley and Annie Yarbrough, both of Moulton, and Julia Brooks of Florence; two brothers, Oscar Brooks of Moulton and Robert Brooks of Cleveland; 20 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Fletcher, Charles Prince, Greg Lampkin, Ken Stewart, James McDaniel Jr. and Bryan Taylor.

Lucille Cartee

MOULTON -- Funeral for Lucille Cartee, 80, of Moulton will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Smyrna Baptist Church with the Rev. Hollis Rutherford and the Rev. Charles Claborn officiating.

Burial will be in Smyrna Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Elliott Funeral Home. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Mrs. Cartee died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Oct. 30, 1921, in Lawrence County to Cloyd Jarrett and Ludie Jarrett.

She was a clerk at the Lawrence County Tax Assessors Office and a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. She was the widow of Leon Cartee and the sister of the late David Hayes, the late Garneth Jarrett, the late Coy Jarrett and the late Letha Dutton.

Survivors include one sister, Annie Lou Jones of Moulton.

Pallbearers will be Mike McCullouch, Jerry Carol, Stacy Norwood, Chris Norwood, Gaylon Jarrett and Larry Jarrett.

Joshua Keith Grissom

MOULTON -- Funeral for Joshua Keith Grissom, 21, of Town Creek will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Ralton McCarley officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Town Creek. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Grissom died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in Town Creek. He was born Nov. 1, 1980, in Alabama. He was a construction worker.

He graduated from Hazelwood High School in 1999. He attended church at Donald First Missionary Baptist Church in Town Creek.

Survivors include his father, Greg Grissom of Town Creek; his mother, Sharon Murphy of Baton Rouge, La.; his stepmother, Donna Grissom of Town Creek; one stepbrother, Trey Howard of Town Creek; two stepsisters, Amanda Howard and Krystina Howard, both of Town Creek; and his grandparents, Robert Hill and Margie Hill of Town Creek, Herbert Grissom and Ruth Grissom of Memphis and Henry Murphy of Collinsville, Tenn.

Pallbearers will be Chip Henley, Justin Barkley, Brian Barkley, Jay Terry, Nicholas Dickey, Trey Howard and Matthew Posey.

Bessie Holcomb

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Bessie Holcomb, 85, of Eva will be today at 2 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church with Whitt Wray and Guy Hunt officiating and Cullman Heritage Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Mrs. Holcomb died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 19, 1916, in Morgan County to Alvin Oscar Millwood and Lilla Mardis Millwood. She was a homemaker and the widow of James Ottis Holcomb. She was the mother of the late Carolyn McKee and the late Gorden Holcomb.

Survivors include one son, James Rawlan Holcomb of Union Hill; five daughters, Tempie Spink of Huntsville, Patsy Beavers of Oden Ridge, Linda Woodall of Rock Creek, Judy Kretzschmar of Ohatchee and Joan Wray of Holly Pond; one brother, A.B. Millwood of Vinemont; three sisters, Wilda Holmes, Peggy Holmes and Ruth Williams, all of Gum Pond; 17 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 13 great-step-grandchldren; and one great great-step-grandchild.

Her nephews will be pallbearers.

Louise Johnson

TRINITY -- Funeral for Louise Johnson, 72, of Moulton will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Anthony "Pinky" Tyler and Marcus Lipscomb officiating.

Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnson died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Princeton Hospital. She was born June 18, 1929, in Lawrence County to Leonard Tyler and Mary Isabell Sutton Tyler.

She was a retired cook. She was the widow of John Henry Johnson and the mother of the late Janice Elaine Putman. She raised her great-grandson Joshua Fretwell of Moulton.

Survivors include one son, Gene Johnson; two brothers, Lovis Tyler of Hamilton and Lewis Tyler of Trinity; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Fretwell, Dwight Tyler, Tony Williams, Dale Bolan, Donald Bolan and Johnny Hanvy.
