John Morris Gatlin

ATHENS -- Funeral for John Morris Gatlin, 63, of Elkmont was to be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Kevin Harbin officiating.

Burial was to be in New Salem Cemetery.

Mr. Gatlin died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born May 4, 1938, in Giles County, Tenn., to Ollie Gatlin and Grace Townsend Gatlin. He was a retired bricklayer and a member of Carriger Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Gatlin; two sons, Steve Gatlin and Mike Gatlin, both of Athens; one daughter, Kim Foster of Elkmont; one sister, Barbara Williams of Pulaski, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Wanda Evelyn Griffin

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Wanda Evelyn Griffin, 78, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Pitts officiating.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Griffin died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Jan. 9, 1924, in Indiana to William "Bill" Shaffer and Ester Eula Mullins Shaffer. She was a senior companion for Community Action and a member of the Pentecostal Church.

Survivors included three sons, Bruce Griffin of Vinemont and Roger Griffin and Roy Griffin, both of Hartselle; six daughters, Mary Coffee of Ohio, Jean Kelley of Decatur, Edna Suite and Carolyn Fergus, both of North Carolina, Eula Goss of Cataco and Lola Lorance of Hartselle; one brother, Wayne Shaffer of Hartselle; one sister, Retha Higginbotham of South Carolina; 24 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Griffin, Bill Haggamaker, Jeff Suite, Brian Fortenberry, Jeremy Lorance, Chad Lorance, Jimmy Lorance and Raymond Fortenberry.

Vera Louise Perry

Funeral for Vera Louise Perry, 98, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Brad Walker officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Perry died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville, N.C. She was born July 15, 1903, in Huntsville to Walter Noble and Lela Noble. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Decatur and the Mary Lou Dancy Chapter 320 Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include one daughter, Selma Wood of Mooresville, N.C.; four stepsons, H.T. Perry of Somerville and B.D. Perry of Elsberry, Mo., and Harry A. Perry and Donald M. Perry, both of Decatur; one stepdaughter, Peggy Hinson of Cullman; one half-brother, Edward Noble of Decatur; two half-sisters, Ester Cottingham of Hartselle and Rudy Henderson of Madison; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be William Wood, Russell Wood, Richard Wood, Thomas Wood, Roger Cottingham, Dwight Cottingham and Wayne Henderson.

Bobby Lee White

ATHENS -- Funeral for Bobby Lee White, 54, of Elkmont will be Thursday at noon at Peoples Funeral Home with the Rev. Will E. Hanserd officiating.

Burial will be in Smithfield Cemetery in Elkmont. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Mr. White died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at his home. He was born Aug. 9, 1947, in Limestone County to Jessie White and Ida Lee White. He worked for a landscaping company. He was the brother of the late Christine White, the late Irene White and the late Ricky White.

Survivors include three brothers, Roy White of Pulaski, Tenn., Carl White of Dayton, Ohio, and Matthew White of Nashville; four sisters, Ellen White of Pulaski, Dorothy White of Houston and Louise Hardy and Clara White, both of Athens; his stepmother, Emma White of Elkmont; two stepbrothers, Willie Moore and John Moore, both of Elkmont; and one stepsister, Emma Hunter of Elkmont.

Charles Spencer 'Charlie' Winchester

TRINITY -- Funeral for Charles Spencer "Charlie" Winchester, 51, of Moulton was to be today at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Harold Letson and Mike Nix officiating.

Burial was to be in Dancy's Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Winchester died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at his home. He was born March 31, 1950, in Lawrence County, to Joe Winchester and Ludania South Winchester. He was a laborer at Ingalls Shipyard and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Winchester was the brother of the late Dale Winchester and Bobby Winchester.

Survivors include seven brothers, Willard Winchester of Florida, Don Winchester of Hillsboro, Danny Winchester, Michael Winchester, Berlin Winchester and Anthony Winchester, all of Moulton, and James Ricky Winchester of Madison; and two sisters, Martha White of Moulton and Margie Wimbs of Town Creek.

Pallbearers will be Tony White, Bill White, Brian Winchester, Brandon Wimbs, Rolland Winchester and Lance Wilbanks.

Madell Eaves Womack

ATHENS -- Funeral for Madell Eaves Womack, 83, of Charlottesville, Va., will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home two hours before the service.

Mrs. Womack died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Manor House in Charlottesville. She was born Oct. 15, 1918, in Harrelson County, Ga., to Bailey L. Eaves and Ida Jane Hutcheson Eaves. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was the widow of Charles Q. Womack, her husband of more than 50 years. She was the mother of the late Kenneth Womack and the grandmother of the late Heather Womack.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Womack of Sterrett and Robert Womack of Madison; one daughter, Donna Kiewra of Crozet, Va.; two brothers, Glenn Eaves of Hazel Green and Bobby Eaves of Georgia; two sisters, Norma Carroll of Bremen, Ga., and Gladys Lane, of Rockmart, Ga.; and five grandchildren, two of whom live in Decatur and Athens.

Jean Wooten

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Jean Wooten, 69, of Moulton will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Summerford officiating.

Burial will be in New Center Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Thursday from noon until 2 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Wooten died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born April 15, 1932, in Illinois. She was a homemaker. She attended New Center Baptist Church and Hillsboro Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathie Sherman of Moulton; one brother, Richard Molander of Rockford, Ill.; one sister, Barbara Seiple of Rockford; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Sherman, Shawn Nugent, Jason Nugent, Jonathan Johnson, Paul Summerford and Thomas Lawson.

William Howard 'Billy' Bolton

ATHENS -- Graveside service for William Howard "Billy" Bolton, 69, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Limestone Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dusty McLemore officiating and Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Bolton died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at his home. He was born May 9, 1932, in Limestone County to David Bolton and Lula Bolton. He was the widower of Mildred Reece Bolton and the brother of the late David Bolton Jr., and Carl Bolton. He was a livelong resident of Limestone County, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include one son, Vance P. Bolton of Madison.

Pallbearers were to be Blane Bolton, Lance Bolton, Mark Bolton, Mike Ferguson, Phillip Ferguson, and Randy Young.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Mary Lillian Defoe

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Mary Lillian Defoe, 82, of Hartselle will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Garrison and the Rev. Larry Janes officiating.

Burial will be in Moss Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Defoe died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Touch of Grace Assisted Living in Cullman. She was born Feb. 22, 1919, in Lawrence County, to Thomas William Bolan and Ida Depreast Bolan. She was a member of the Church of God and was the widow of Cletis E. Defoe.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary E. Hazel of Danville; one brother, Louie Earshel Bolan of Illinois.; one sister, Minnie Lee Roberts of Danville; and two grandchildren.

Burtis 'Buddy' Letson

HAZEL GREEN -- Funeral for Burtis "Buddy" Letson, 82, of Hazel Green was to be today at 11 a.m. at Gallant Funeral Home in Hazel Green with the Rev. Scott Letson officiating.

Burial was to be in Byrd Cemetery at Owens Cross Roads.

Mr. Letson died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Lela Cooper Letson; one daughter, Terisa L. Tappscott of Hartselle; one stepdaughter, Judy Gail Buchanan of Stevenson; two stepsons, Troy Cooper of Huntsville and John Cooper of Pasadena, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Linda Lou Letson

TRINITY -- Funeral for Linda Lou Letson, 59, of Hillsboro will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. James Harold Letson officiating.

Burial will be in Smyrna Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Letson died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at her home. She was born Aug. 2, 1942, in Mauck Port, Ind., to Curtis Yocum and Goldie Hisey Yocum. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Joe Letson; one son, Michael Letson of Lula, Ga.; one daughter, Cindy Parker of Hillsboro; one brother, Jimmy Yocum of Florida; two sisters, June Grigsby and Judi Yocum, both of Chicago, Ill.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Parker, Josh Letson, Barry Letson, Jessie Walton, Buddy Johnson and Fred Cooper.

Tibby Sherrill

Funeral for Tibby Sherrill, 80, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Brooks Barkley officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sherrill died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at NHC Healthcare in Moulton. She was born May 9, 1921, in Lawrence County, to Gilbert and Bertha Bolling. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and was the widow of Raymond Sherrill.

Her family remembers her as an energetic volunteer who served wherever there was a need. She cooked, decorated and served at weddings, showers and funerals, and volunteered thousands of hours at hospitals and nursing homes.

Survivors include one son, Michael Sherrill of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and four sisters, Beulah Terry of Moulton, Jo Moats and Helen Agee, both of Decatur, and Christine Guier of Arkansas.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Ruth Daws Tunstill

ATHENS -- Funeral for Ruth Daws Tunstill, 89, of Athens will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Don Osborne, Warren Glass and the Rev. Dusty McLemore officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Tunstill died today, Feb. 14, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Nov. 24, 1912, in Limestone County and was retired from Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was the mother of the late Lester Daws and Hollis Daws.

Survivors include one son, D.W. Daws of Athens; two daughters, Shirley Hill of Athens and Peggy Wilhoite of Nashville; three sisters, Rossie Glass and Vera Malone, both of Athens, and Lorene Campbell of Elkmont; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchilden; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Daws, Phillip Daws, Steve Hill, Kevin Daws, Eddie McGlocklin, Jimmy Collins, Jeff Daws and Brian Collins.
