Juanita Roberts Waller

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Juanita Roberts Waller, 81, of Madison was to be today at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Lawson officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Waller died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Nov. 21, 1920, in Winfield to James Holley Roberts and Willie Aston Roberts. She moved to Montgomery in 1955 and to Madison County in 1998, where she lived until her death. She was the widow of John Kendrick Waller Sr. and sister of the late Don Roberts.

Memorials may be made to Alabama Children's Hospital Foundation, 1600 Seventh Ave. S., Birmingham, AL 35223, or to a favorite charity.

Josephine 'Jo' Pettey Weaver

Graveside service for Josephine "Jo" Pettey Weaver, 68, of Montgomery will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Manley officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. The family also will receive friends in Montgomery on Friday night from 5 to 7 at Leak Memory Chapel.

Mrs. Weaver died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. She was born April 23, 1933, to Ollie and Mary Pettey. She was a bridal consultant in the Montgomery area and owned and operated an antique store in Montgomery's Mulberry District. She was the mother of the late Steven Douglas Weaver.

Survivors include one son, Kim Stuart of Montgomery; one daughter, Susan Davis of Hartselle; two sisters, Betty Rollins of Hartselle and Pat Pickens of Pensacola, Fla.; one brother, John Pettey of Fayetteville, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Pugh, Keith Pickens, Jeff Mabe, Tony Rollins, Bob McAllister, Anthony Davis, George Olsson and Dan Cross.

James Allen Sr.
Funeral for James Allen Sr., 76, of Town Creek will be Saturday at noon at First Baptist Church in Town Creek with the Rev. James Allen Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. The body also will be in the church one hour before the funeral.

Mr. Allen died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at his home. He was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Lawrence County, to Gasner Allen and Inez Jones Allen. A member of First Baptist Church of Town Creek, he was a gospel music recording artist with many groups such as The Pearly Gates, Spiritual Harmonies and The Fairfield Four, which performed across Alabama. He was one of the first black deputy sheriffs in Lawrence County, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Tennessee Valley Authority.

Survivors include one son, the Rev. James Allen Jr. of Town Creek; two daughters, Alma Jean Donaldson of Greenville, Miss., and Elizabeth Jean Smith of Tuscumbia; one sister, Minnie Pearl Jones of Town Creek; and 15 grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Dewey Wayne Maples

NEW HOPE -- Funeral for Dewey Wayne Maples, 59, of Owens Cross Roads will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at New Hope Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Green and the Rev. Dewayne Moore officiating.

Burial will be in Byrd Cemetery. The family was to receive friends today until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Maples died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 10, 1942, in Alabama to Henry Dewey Maples and Mannie Patterson Maples. He was a seller for a bank.

Survivors include two sons, Dewey Allen Maples of Georgia and Jason Wayne Maples of Jasper; two daughters, Cindy Maples of Atlanta and Jamie Elizabeth Maples of Jasper; two brothers, Lindsey Maples of Tennessee and Donald Ray Maples of New Hope; two sisters, Mary Ann Brown of Decatur and Patricia Cosby of Georgia; and three grandchildren.

Floyd 'Dick' Miles

Funeral for Floyd "Dick" Miles, 93, of Decatur will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with Mike Nix and Elmer Lusk officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Miles died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born June 21, 1908, in Giles County, Tenn., to James Rufus Miles and Mollie McCafferty Miles. He was retired from ConAgra and was a member of Beltline Church of Christ. He was the widower of Claudia Miles.

Survivors include two sons, Norman W. Miles of Chipley, Fla., and Davis Miles of Decatur; one grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be W.H. Swanner Jr., Hershel Swanner, Grady Swanner, Travis Miles, Kenneth Presnell and Kenneth Sharp.

Barbara Allen Riggs

ATHENS -- Funeral for Barbara Allen Riggs, 62, of Athens was to be today at 11:30 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Joel Carwile officiating.

Burial was to be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Riggs died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville. She was born Oct. 19, 1939, in Limestone County to Alvie Gooch and Mable Gooch. She was a member of First Union Baptist Church, the widow of Dillard Riggs, and the sister of the late Glenn Gooch.

Survivors include one son, Stan Riggs of Decatur; one daughter, Angie Davis of Athens; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brad Riggs, Heath Davis, Daniel Motter, Greg McAllister, Danny Cockrell and Nick Downey.

Lucy Ruby Roberts

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Lucy Ruby Roberts, 94, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Charles Goodall and the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Basham Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Roberts died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at South Morgan Health Care. She was born Oct. 26, 1907, in Morgan County, to Tom Speakman and Mattie Speakman. She was a homemaker and a member of Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Ben Roberts and the mother of the late Benton Roberts and Marie Roberts.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Roberts and Hoyt Roberts, both of Hartselle; two daughters, Maverine Garner and Sherry Summerford, both of Hartselle; one brother, Simon Speakman of Birmingham; two sisters, Julia Wallace and Virginia Sims, both of Hartselle; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rick Roberts, Randy Roberts, Greg Garner, Jeff Roberts, Kirk Roberts and Kris Roberts.

Alberta Tolleson Stone

Funeral for Alberta Tolleson Stone, 88, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mitchell Williams, Ralph Bates and the Rev. John Clotfelter officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Mrs. Stone died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at her home. She was born Dec. 9, 1913, in Heflin to Jesse R. Tolleson and Mary Denman Tolleson. She was a volunteer at Medical Park Convalescent Center and a member of Central United Methodist Church, Fidelas Sunday School Class, Christ Mission, Le Club Entre Meres and Central Garden Club. She was the widow of William G. Stone Sr.

Survivors include two sons, William G. Stone Jr. and Samuel T. Stone, both of Decatur; one daughter, Mary Anne Nyquist of Nashville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be William G. Stone III, John Grantland Stone Sr., Jonathan S. Nyquist, P. Scott Stone, John Robert Townson and Frank A. McDaniel.

Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church or Friends of Delano Park.

Ruth M. Taylor

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Funeral for Ruth M. Taylor, 75, of Baton Rouge will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East with the Rev. Carol Winn officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Taylor died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at her home. She was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Hartselle to Lewis E. Sandlin and Lillian Roberts Sandlin. She was a retired beautician and a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Albert Bernard Taylor and Millard Morris and the mother of the late Charles Morris, the late Gary Morris and the late Lynn Dupuy.

Survivors include one son, Richard Taylor of Baton Rouge; one step-daughter, Toni Shoemaker of Birmingham; one brother, Eugene Sandlin of Rogersville; one sister, Lois Wallace of Hartselle; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Francis Beatrice Warren

Funeral for Francis Beatrice Warren, 80, of Town Creek will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Sparks officiating.

Burial will be in Warren Family Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Warren died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation of Decatur. She was born Feb. 12, 1922, in Lawrence County to Thomas Fuqua and Hattie Smith Fuqua. She was a member of Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Mother's Board and Missionary Society. She also was a member of the Hampton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Number 528.

Survivors include two daughters, GleriaMcVay of Sheffield and Patty Mosley of North Courtland; one sister, Vernedia Eggleston of Sheffield; two brothers, Levi Fuqua of Sheffield and John D. Fuqua of Savannah Ga.; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

Deacons of the church and nephews will be pallbearers.

Josephine 'Jo' Pettey Weaver

Bartel A. Borglum
HARTSELLE -- Memorial service for Bartel A. Borglum, 63, of Hartselle will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Lewis and the Rev. Duane Maas officiating.

Mr. Borglum died Feb. 6, 2002, at his residence. He was born Jan. 27, 1939, in Yates County, N.Y., to Tenus Borglum and Gerda Jensen Borglum. He was brother of the late Knud Borglum and Greger Borglum. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Decatur and Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hartselle.

He graduated from Dana College in Nebraska and was a volunteer fireman in New York, Speake and Hartselle. He served on the Board of Directors of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in New York and the Penn Yan School Board in New York. He also was involved in the Yates County Farm Bureau, Yates County Extension Service, 4-H Club and Danish Brotherhood.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hein Borglum; one son, John Adrian Borglum of Guam; three daughters, Kirsten Borglum of Portland, Ore., Gewn Lambert of Northport and Susan Borglum of Hartselle; three brothers, Carsten Borglum of Zellwood, Fla., Gerald Borglum of Elkhard, Ind., and Dana Borglum of Gorham, N.Y.; one sister, Ardis Vokes of Fairport, N.Y.; and one granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to the Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund in Hartselle or Hospice of the Valley.

George Washington Dake

ATHENS -- Funeral for George Washington Dake, 67, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Terry officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Dake died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Athens Limestone Hospital. He was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Limestone County. A member of Truth Baptist Church, he was the widower of Gladys Dake, father of the late Vickie Coffman and brother of the late Garner Dake.

Survivors include one son, Allan Dake of Athens; one sister, Helen Harold of Atlanta, one brother, Hubert Dake of Warrior; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Sides, Jonathan Towe, Jimmy Towe, Johnny Dempsy, Jackie Towe and Tommy Tucker.
