Marie Madeline May

Funeral for Marie Madeline May, 79, of Decatur will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Sandra Locke-Godbey officiating.

Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. May died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation for Decatur. She was born June 19, 1922, in Oklahoma to George Philip Schones and Agnes Kirk Schones.

Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Pruett of Decatur, Linda Bowser of Huntsville and Rita Skemp of Nashville; one brother, Alvin Schones of New Wall, Okla.; one sister, Rosella Garvin of Sallisaw, Okla., and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Greg Green , Jerry Pruett, Paul Dodson, Mike Stratchen, Shawn Severence and Bobby Castelein.

James Emmett McClary

Funeral for James Emmett McClary, 94, of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Hal Noble and the Rev. John Clotfelter officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Friday for one hour before the service at the church.

Mr. McClary died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born June 22, 1907, in Decatur to James Frank McClary and Margaret Adrian Thompson McClary. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur and grew up in the Austinville area. After he completed school, he went to work for B.F. Goodrich. He married the late Kathryn Smith in 1929 and owned and operated McClary Tire Co. The Decatur Chamber of Commerce named him Retailer of the Year in 1993. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he was chairman of the board of stewards and was Sunday school superintendent for 21 years. He was a former president of the Tennessee Valley Council of Boy Scouts, where he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the Decatur Rotary Club, where he had 61 years of perfect attendance. He was club president in 1942 and 1943 and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Rotary made him first recipient of the Rotary Four-way Test in 1995 and named the local award after him. He also was a member of the Decatur Investment Club.

Survivors include one son, James E. McClary Jr. of Athens; one daughter, Emily Guenzel of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Agee, Donald Branum, Hezekiah Chapman, B.L. Bryan, Jim Tucker and Allen Hamilton.

Rotary Club members will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church Building Fund or a favorite charity.

Edward 'Big Ed' DuBois
MOULTON -- Funeral for Edward "Big Ed" DuBois, 60, of Hillsboro was to be today at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Major William Williford officiating.

Burial was to be in Alexander Wilburn Cemetery.

Mr. DuBois died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 24, 1942, in Bismark, N.D., to Andrew W. DuBois and Catherine Allery Dubois.

Suvivors include his wife, Jean James; five stepdaughters, Diane Nelms of Decatur; Joyce Guess, Christine Braswell and Britany James, all of Hillsboro, and Charlotte James of Priceville; eight brothers, Joe DuBois and Richard DuBois of Sarasota, Fla.; Tom DuBois, Tony Dubois and Donnie DuBois, all of Joliette, Ill., Ernie Dubois of Lexington, Ill., Gene Dubois of Nekoosa, Wis., and Gerald DuBois of Sidney, Mont.; five sisters, Patricia Hanvorf of Wilmington, Ill., Duzz DuBois of Peoria, Ill., Carol Jean DuBois of McHenry, Ill., Elaine Postpichol, of Sarasota, Fla., and Marie Dakota of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Charles Allen Gates

ARDMORE -- Funeral for Charles Allen Gates, 80, of Prospect, Tenn., will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home with Billy Beal officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Gates died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Nashville Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born Oct. 12, 1921, in Elkmont to Hershell Gates and Delia White Gates. He was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church, the Masons and Shriners. He was the brother of the late Lorene Adams.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Hargrove Gates; two daughters, Gay Shelton of Ardmore, Tenn., and Ann Bateson of Ardmore, Ala.; five brothers, Carl Gates and Oscar Mack Gates, both of Athens, Gerald Gates of Ardmore Howard "Hank" Gates of Ardmore, Tenn., and Byron Gates of Elkton, Tenn.; two sisters, Lucille Hargrove of Elkton and Iris Dean McAnear of Decatur; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Forrest Wynell Gorham

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Forrest Wynell Gorham, 86, of Cullman will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Welti Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ray Lathem and Randy Sellers officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Williams-McCracken Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church for one hour before the service.

Mrs. Gorham died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born April 28,1915, in Atlanta, Ga., to Andrew Jackson Deese and Ida Waldrop Deese. She was a homemaker and the widow of Roy Gorham.

Survivors include three sons, John Gorham of Glencoe, Billy Gorham of Welti, and Harold Gorham of Decatur; three brothers, Duell Deese of Tampa, Fla., Jean Deese of Cullman and Buell Deese of Simco; one sister, Merle Welch of Simco; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Bobby Gene Letson

MOULTON -- Funeral for Bobby Gene Letson, 67, of Moulton, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Neil Carter officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Letson died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 28, 1934, in Lawrence County, to Houston Letson and Ruby Letson. He was retired from Prestolite as a maintenance worker and was a member of the Lawrence County Racking Horse Association.

Survivors include his wife, Laurdean Letson; two sons, Michael Letson of Town Creek and Jeff Letson of Moulton; one daughter, Sandra Letson of Moulton; his mother of Moulton; one brother, Fred Letson of Lafayette, Ind.; one sister, Josephine Letson of Courtland; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Letson, Don Smith, James Grimes, Josh Cyr, Chris Chabaud and Fred Letson.

Leonard J. Merrell

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Leonard J. Merrell, 88, of Huntsville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Farley Church of Christ with Tommy Rosenblum officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery with Laughlin Service Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Merrell died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 14, 1913, in Marshall County to George Coleman Merrell and Elsie Dea Whitaker Merrell. He was a member of Farley Church of Christ was was a retired employee of Jenkins Produce.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Jenkins Merrell; one son, Joseph Donald Merrell of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Doris Merrell Elkins of Huntsville and Linda Merrell Sledge of Athens; three brothers J.D.. Merrell of Franklin, Tenn., Charles Merrell of Huntsville and Milford Merrell of Knoxville; three sisters, Mary Bridges and Gertrude Barnard, both of Huntsville, and Faye Wildes of Hammond, La.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Milford E. Partain

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Milford Eugene Partain, 69, of Hartselle, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Pattillo Street Church of God with the Rev. Shane Coppock officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Partain died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at his home. He was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Morgan County to Amos Partain and Velma Myrtle Plemmons Partain. He was a member of Vinemont Church of God and of the Hartselle National Guard. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was retired from Wolverine Tube Co. after 40 years of employment.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Griffith Partain of Hartselle; one son, Stanley Eugene Partain of Somerville; five daughters, Sandra M. Partain of Hartselle, Rhonda K. Lee and Myria A. Terry, both of Trinity, Tracey D. Partain of Decatur and Wendy L. Pike of Danville; three brothers, Milton H. Partain of Hanceville, Billy L. Partain of Gardendale and Mack Arthur Partain of Empire; and six grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

David Clifton 'D.C.' Roberts

Funeral for David Clifton "D.C." Roberts, 60, of Elkmont will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Robert Amerson officiating.

Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 4 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Roberts died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at his home. He was born Oct. 2, 1941, in Limestone County, to Herman and Nellie Roberts. A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was retired from W.W. Grainger in Huntsville and was owner/operator of Tennessee Valley Electric Motor Service.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Roberts; three sons, Donny Joe Ridinger of Praireville, La., and Buck Ridinger and Phil Ridinger, both of Elkmont; two daughters, Alicia Ridinger Whitley of Hiram, Ga., and Tammy Roberts Omalacy of Carrollton, Ga.; his parents of Athens; five brothers, Martin Roberts, James Roberts and Clayburn Roberts, all of Danville, Ill., Leon Roberts of Rogersville and Ray Roberts of Athens; three sisters, Ruby Brown of Jacksonville, Neta Faulkner of Elkmont and Mary Miller of Athens; and seven grandchildren.

Grandsons and nephews will be pallbearers.

Corey Ridinger will be an honorary pallbearer.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Stella Sue Roland

ATHENS -- Funeral for Stella Sue Roland, 74, of Athens will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Rick Craft and Tim Keenum officiating.

Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Roland died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at her home. She was born April 19, 1927, in Limestone County. She was retired from Ardmore Nursing Home and attended First United Pentecostal Church. She was the widow of Bernard W. "Shorty" Griffin and Billy Roland. She was the sister of the late Rosie King, Eva Jackson, Zeno Griffin, William Bill Taylor and Edward Taylor.

Survivors include: three daughters, Patricia Ann Willard, Peggy Austin and Barbara Groce, all of Athens; three sisters, Pauline Layton, Lucille Scroggins and Eunice King, all of Athens; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Ruby Carmen Thomas

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ruby Carmen Thomas, 88, of Cotaco will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. David Parker and the Rev. Don Ryan officiating.

Burial will be in Red Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thomas died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Marshal Medical Center in Boaz. She was born May 30, 1913, in Texas to Willie Campbell and Cordelia Williams Campbell. She was a homemaker and a member of Cotaco United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Howard "Jack" Thomas.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Edmonson of Guntersville; one granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be James Russell, Don Murphy, Steve Edmonson, Stanley Roberts, Randal Roberts and Kenneth Roberts.

Vera Vaughn

Funeral for Vera Vaughn, 84, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Gray officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Gardens with Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Vaughn died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at her home. She was born May 10, 1917, in Lawrence County to Wesley and Josie Wiggins.

She was a member of Springhill M.B. Church, where she was a member of the senior choir and president of the Mothers Board. She was the senior member of the church. She was the widow of William Vaughn Sr. and mother of the late Bessie Mae Vaughn and George Wesley Vaughn.

Survivors include two sons, William Vaughn Jr. and John Larry Vaughn, both of Decatur; two daughters, Martha Johnson of Town Creek and Josie Madden of Decatur; two brothers, Charles Wiggins of Cleveland, Ohio, and Lurie Wiggins of Decatur; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Lucas, Carl Garth, Leo Gray, Timothy Guster, George Guster, James Guster and Harold Pearson.

Johnie Mae Coggin
VERONA, MISS. -- Graveside service for Johnie Mae Coggin, 88, of Trinity will be today at 1 p.m. at New Chapel Cemetery in Nettleton, Miss., with the Rev. Samuel Wallace officiating and Lee Memorial Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends today from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ms. Coggin died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at Hartselle Hospital. She was born Nov. 1, 1913, in Nettleton to John Allen and Fannie Pearl Coggin.

Survivors include one brother, James Coggin of Jackson, Miss.; and one sister, Colleen Coggin Whitehead of Decatur.

Ms. Coggin's nephews will serve as pallbearers.
