Nameless Butler Whitt

ATHENS -- Funeral service for Nameless Butler Whitt, 82, of Athens will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Raburn and the Rev. Michael Whitt officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 until 9 at the funeral home. Mrs. Whitt died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

She was born Dec. 8, 1919, in Lauderdale County. She was a member of New Oakland Baptist Church and the grandmother of the late Laura Beth Haynes and the late Debra Whitt.

Survivors include her husband, Johnie Whitt; two sons, Johnie Henry Whitt Jr. of Leesburg, Fla., and J.D. Whitt of Trinity; three daughters, Betty Johnson of Haggerman, Idaho, Judy Carter and Cathy Haynes, both of Athens; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Birmingham Children's Hospital or a favorite charity.

Harold Milton Winchester

MOULTON -- Funeral for Harold Milton Winchester, 77, of Hillsboro was to be today at 9:30 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin Gillespie officiating.

Burial was to be in Morris Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Winchester died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Russellville Hospital.

He was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Lawrence County to George Winchester and Clara Winchester. He was retired from Champion International and was the brother of the late Rex W. Winchester.

Survivors include four sons, Michael Winchester of Decatur, Thomas Winchester and Marion Edward Winchester, both of Trinity, and Mark Winchester of Lawton, Mich.; three daughters, Phillis Ockerman of Kalamazoo, Mich., Teresa Letson of Mattawan, Mich., and Nancy Winchester of Lawrence, Mich.; one stepson, James Randell Haynes of Kalamazoo; one brother, Ernest Winchester of Adamsville; one sister, Virginia Winchester Jones of Birmingham; and 24 grandchildren.

Grandsons and nephews were to be pallbearers.

Col. George D. Haskins

Funeral for Col. George D. Haskins, 88, of Decatur will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bradley K. Walker officiating.

Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Haskins died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation for Decatur. He was born Nov. 9, 1913, in Richardson County, Neb., to James A. Haskins and Alice Maude Higgins Haskins. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Decatur and a former member, elder, deacon and trustee of First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville.

He was a graduate of Peru State College and received his master's degree from the University of Nebraska. He retired as a colonel with the U.S. Army after 30 years of service. His medals and citations include: Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal -- Germany and Japan, National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Army Commendations Medal and Legion of Merit.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Haskins; two daughters, Betty McClaskey of Miami and Nancy H. Curl of Decatur; and three granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be A.J. Coleman, Mark Maloney, Ray Jones, Travis Hardwick, Rick Paler, Doug Moore, Ran Pickell and Dr. George Hansberry.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 701 Oak St. N.E., Decatur AL 35601.

Mother Laura P. Jolly

Funeral for Mother Laura P. Jolly, 73, of Decatur will be Thursday at noon at Mount Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Mooresville with the Rev. James Miller Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Jolly died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born Oct. 14, 1928, to Egbert Peebles Sr. and Laura Miller Peebles. She was a member of Mount Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church and served on the mother's board. She was the mother of the late Thomas Jerry Jolly Jr. and the sister of the late Ida Fletcher, Rebecca Massey and Matilda Bradley.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin Jolly of Tawas, Mich., and Dwight Guster of Radcliffe, Ky.; eight daughters, Naressia Petty and Mia Knowles, both of Decatur, Marilyn Toney of Harvest, Velma Hawkins, Hazel Jolly and Lottie Jolly, all of Huntsville, Shirley Jackson of Montgomery and Laura Smith of Decatur, Ga.; two brothers, Egbert Peebles Jr. of Mooresville and Eddie Peebles of Chattanooga; one sister, Alberta Caudle of Triana; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Members of Richard Brinkley Lodge Number 30 will be pallbearers.

Elders and deacons of Mount Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church will be honorary pallbearers.

Frances Carolyn Kornis

Funeral for Frances Carolyn Kornis, 82, of Decatur will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Bailey officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kornis died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in Morgan County. She was born April 25, 1921, in Decatur to John H. Palmer and Jennie Dickey Palmer. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was retired from Kmart. She was the widow of Paul D. Kornis.

Survivors include one son, Paul Richard Kornis of Decatur; two daughters, Jeanette Turner of Hartselle and Carol Blackwood of Decatur; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ken Turner, Chance Higdon, Ray Williams, Rick Kornis, Brad Blackwood and Rodney Blackwood.

Jimmy Lamar Parker Sr.

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Jimmy Lamar Parker Sr., 64, of Huntsville will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Parker died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Lincoln Medical Center in Fayetteville, Tenn. He was born Oct. 25, 1937, in Chipley, Fla. He served in the U.S. Navy and had lived in Huntsville since 1985. He was the widower of Margaret Parker and the stepfather of the late David M. Campbell.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy L. Parker Jr. of Smyrna, Tenn., and Timothy R. Parker of Herrin, Ill.; one step-daughter, Diane Perry of Athens; two sisters, Mary P. Nelson of Laurinburg, N.C., and Sue P. Schomas of Tallahassee, Fla.; one brother, Gary W. Parker of Crawfordville, Fla.; five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

Lorene Runager Sims

Funeral for Lorene Runager Sims, 84, of Trinity was to be today at 1 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Danny Graham officiating.

Burial was to be in Decatur City Cemetery.

Mrs. Sims died Monday, March 4, 2002. She was born March 10, 1917, in Lawrence County to Joseph Runager and Annie Bell Runager. She was a member of Trinity Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Charles M. Sims and Tommy Sims, both of Trinity; one daughter, Carolyn Haley of Decatur; two brothers, Hollis Runager of Decatur and Bill Runager of Trinity; one sister, Opal Looney of Trinity; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Greg Sims, Brent Sims, Doug Sims, Scotty Sims, Ronnie Halbrooks, Tim Haley and Ricky Haley.

James William Smith

Funeral for James William Smith, 75, of Danville will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Harmony Grove Holiness Church in Danville with the Rev. Roger White officiating.

Burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Danville with Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Smith died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center in Moulton. He was born Dec. 6, 1926, in Lawrence County to Oscar Smith and Lula Hanes Smith. A retired house painter, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Harmony Grove Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lela Smith; five sons, Gary Smith and Roger Smith, both of Hartselle, Bobby Smith and Quinton Smith, both of Danville, and Stanley Smith of Decatur; four daughters, Gail Nichelson of Vinemont, Faye Brewer of Danville, Barbara Perry of Hillsboro and Renee Sims of Trinity; three brothers, John Paul Smith of Jones Chapel, Talmadge Smith of Ohio and Clifford Smith of Danville; two sisters, Louise Smith of Danville and Irene Cutchens of Falkville; 23 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Aaron J. Terry

MOULTON -- Funeral for Aaron J. Terry, 85, of Moulton will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Moulton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Wright and the Rev. Earnest Smotherman officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens with Elliott Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the church.

Mr. Terry died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Lawrence County to Coleman Terry and Lou Agnes Terry. He was a farmer and also retired from Diamond Shamrock in Sheffield. He was a member of Moulton First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Cleazelle Terry; three sons, Waylon Maurice Terry, Willard Rayburn Terry and Joseph Aaron Terry, all of Moulton; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Greg Terry, Patrick Terry, Matthew Terry, David Terry, Justin Terry and Shane Lindsey.

The First United Methodist Church Fellowship Sunday School class will be honorary pallbearers.

Jack Junior Woodard

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Jack Junior Woodard, 76, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Anthony Vinson officiating.

Burial will be in Nelson Hollow Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Woodard died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at his home. He was born May 21, 1925, in Morgan County to Jack Woodard and Alice Marie Woodard.

Survivors include two sons, Roy Junior Woodard and Tony Anthony Woodard, both of Hartselle; two daughters, Faye Rene Woodard and Judy Carol Woodard, both of Hartselle; two brothers, Richard Woodard of Somerville and Charles Nuber Woodard of Valhermoso Springs; two sisters, Flora Dudley of Valhermoso Springs and Hazel Hawes of Maine; one half-sister, Bessey Walls of Valhermoso Springs; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ken Holtzclaw, Jeremy Vinson, Darrin Vinson, Mickey Crow and Paul Woodard.

Leonard David 'Dave' Gurno
Funeral for Leonard David "Dave" Gurno, 58, of Decatur will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iuka, Miss., with the Rev. Tom Burns officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery in Cloquet, Minn. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. They will also receive friends at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mr. Gurno died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born May 4, 1943, in Cloquet, to Leonard Eugene Gurno and Elizabeth Houle Gurno. He worked as a quality assurance manager at Lockheed-Martin in Huntsville on the THADD missile program. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Gurno of Decatur; one son, Michael Gurno of Hartselle; two sisters, Jean Mulder of Duluth, Minn., and Nadine Smith of Cloquet; and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to the building fund at St. Ann Catholic Church.

Memory Estes Evans Hagood

ATHENS -- Funeral for Memory Estes Evans Hagood, 82, of Athens will be Friday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hagood died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. The funeral home will announce complete arrangements.

Robert Clyde 'R.C.' Hallmark

MOULTON -- Funeral for Robert Clyde "R.C." Hallmark, 73, of Mount Hope was to be today at 3 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Houston officiating.

Burial was to be in Ferguson Cemetery.

Mr. Hallmark died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Lawrence County, to William D. Hallmark and Myrtle Adcock Hallmark. He was retired from Monsanto and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Hallmark was a deacon at new Zion Baptist Church. He was a member of the Huntsville Shriners, Hatton Masonic Lodge No. 879 and the Hatton Order of the Eastern Star No. 482. He also worked with Boll Weevil eradication.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Sue Hallmark; one son, Keith Hallmark of Mount Hope; one sister, Ethel Bradford of Russellville; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Danny Zills, Hutson Bradford, Jimmy Cook, Roger Zills, Ricky Zills, Tony Zills, Hayes Smith and Sanford Satterfield.
