Rilla W. Morell

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Rilla W. Morell, 92, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Bob White officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

The family was to receive friends today from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Morell died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born Aug. 15, 1909, in Giles County, Tenn., to Alfred Landrum Wallace and Dovie Elizabeth Daly Wallace. She was a Baptist and retired from A&P Supermarket as cashier after 30 years of service.

Survivors include one daughter, Sylvia Spence of Athens; two sisters, Una Andrews of Athens and Vera Larkin of Camden, Ark.; one grandson; and one step-great grandchild.

Eva Mae Pepper Robison

ATHENS -- Funeral for Eva Mae Pepper Robison, 78, of Athens was to be today at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Bruce Hall, Sam Binkley and Bobby Hall officiating.

Burial was to be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Robinson died Wednesday, March 22, 2002, at her home. She was born July 21, 1923, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker and a member of Pepper Road Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin Robison of Athens; two sons, Frank Robison and Al Robison, both of Athens; four daughters, Gayle Williams of Athens, Ann Hall of Gainesville, Ga., Joan Bullington of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Eva Pettus of Athens; 13 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Kerry Williams, Ashley Hall, Chad Bullington, Adam Robison, Heath Robison, Gary Long, Brian Smith and Adam Miller.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

Olin D. Slater

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Somerville Police Chief Olin D. Slater, 61, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Bullard and the Rev. Tommy Smothers officiating.

Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Slater died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born April 23, 1940, in Morgan County to Olin D. Slater Sr. and Beulah Slater Brown Mays. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and retired from the safety department at 3M after 32 years. He was a member of the Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police, serving 24 years as Somerville's police chief.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Slater; one son, Christopher Slater of Somerville; two daughters, Cynthia Jernigan of Decatur and Cathy Slater of Somerville; his mother of Hartselle; and one sister, Lynn Crow of Hartselle.

Pallbearers will be Jason Wilbanks, Craig Richie, Michael Moore, Billy Peebles, Ken Bennefield and Chris Dillard.

Larry James Sterling

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Larry James Sterling, 54, of Cullman and formerly of Morgan County, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Vernon Willis and the Rev. Harold Widener officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Sterling died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 1, 1947, in Cullman County to James Sterling and Annie Gladys Fincher Sterling. He worked 23 years as a machinist at Americold. He was the widower of Betty Diane Harper Sterling.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Peak Sterling; two sons, Larry Matthew Sterling and J.J. Sterling, both of Cullman; two daughters, Valarie Yearwood of Cullman and Renea Fletcher of Maryland; his mother of Cullman; one sister, Shirley Wells of Cullman; and four grandchildren.

Arthur H. Teague

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Arthur H. Teague, 81, of Falkville will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Lovelace officiating.

Burial will be in Falkville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Teague died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at his home. He was born Nov. 13, 1920, in Morgan County to William R. Teague and Lottie Margaret Patterson Teague. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Falkville First Baptist Church. He retired as a millwright for PR Mallory in Huntsville. He was the brother of the late William J. Teague, Robert Daly Teague, Edward Teague, James Teague, John H. Teague, Anna M. Teague, Lois James and Catherine Macoy.

Survivors include his wife, Estelle Anders Teague; two sons, Jimmy Teague of Hartselle and John Arthur Teague of Falkville; three daughters, Karen Banks and Phyllis Teague, both of Falkville, and Margaret Laughmiller of Hartselle.

Pallbearers will be Billy Teague, Edward Teague, Dwayne Teague, Frank Wallace, Austin Williams and Albert Wallace.

Emily Beth Woodruff

Funeral for Emily Beth Woodruff, 20, of Decatur was to be today at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Bobby Graham and Rick Davis officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Ms. Woodruff died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. She was born Feb. 6, 1982, in Decatur. She was an Austin High School graduate, played Dixie Girls softball for 10 years and was a member of Old Moulton Road Church of Christ.

Survivors include her father, Ricky Jay Woodruff of Decatur; her mother, Mary Beth Hays of Decatur; her step-father, Marc Hays of Decatur; and her step-mother, Leesa Woodruff of Decatur; one brother, Matthew Woodruff of Decatur; two stepbrothers, Justin Hays and Jordan Hays, both of Decatur; one stepsister, Mallory Chandler of Decatur; and grandparents, Charles and Sibyl Woodruff of Decatur and Fred Linley of Decatur.

Pallbearers were to be Brandon McCravy, Blake Casteel, Danny McCafferty, Ben Chandler, Jeff Simpson and R.J. McKee.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society.

Lucy Mae Callahan Reeves Childers

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Lucy Mae Callahan Reeves Childers, 67, of Hartselle, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Williams and the Rev. Keith Jones officiating.

Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Childers died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at The University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. She was born June 23, 1934, in Morgan County to James Albert Callahan and Ella Lee Owens Callahan. She attended the Decatur First Holy Church of Christ and was retired from Lurleen B. Wallace Developmental Center. She was sister of the late George "Buddy" Callahan, Franklin Callahan and Mattie Reeves.

Survivors include her husband, French Earl "Frank" Childers; two sons, Ronnie Reeves of Somerville and Lynn Reeves of Cullman; three daughters, Yulonda Cloer of Somerville, Shelia McCormick of Brindlee Mountain and Diane Roberson of Hartselle; one brother, Robert Callahan of Hartselle; four sisters, Janet Eddy and Pauline Maples, both of Hartselle, Edna Callahan and Lorene Hill, both of Valhermoso Springs; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Rev. Enos A Cross

Funeral for the Rev. Enos A. Cross, 80, of Decatur, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Sammy Evans, the Rev. C.G. Redding and the Rev. Alvin Tucker officiating.

Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home. Rev. Cross died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Lawrence County to John Henry Cross and Vera Moran Cross. He was a 1959 graduate of Clarke College in Newton, Miss. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, and a retired Baptist minister. He served as pastor of churches in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Cross; three sons, E. Lakin Cross of Chattanooga, Tenn., John R. Cross of Decatur and Dwight L. Cross of Hartselle; two sisters, Stella Moss of Muscle Shoals and Catherine Flannigan of Leighton; stepmother, Lennie Cross of Leighton; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Judith Anne Grant

Funeral for Judith Anne Grant, 39, of Decatur, will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Grant and the Rev. Cary Grant officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Grant died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at The University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. She was born Nov. 26, 1962, in Decatur to Ralph Matthews and Anne Dietz Matthews. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Mike Grant; one son, Jonathan Grant of Decatur; two daughters, Christen Grant and Anna Grant, both of Decatur; her parents, who live in Decatur; three brothers, Tim Matthews, Paul Matthews and Joel Matthews, all of Decatur; and her grandmother, Mildred Matthews of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Tim Matthews, Paul Matthews, Joel Matthews, John Vickers, Lynn Doshier and Bob Hunter.

Eulene Hill Hutchins

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Eulene Hill Hutchins, 66, of Eva, will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Nichols officiating.

Burial will be in Eva Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hutchins died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at The University of Alabama in Birmingham Hospital. She was born July 15, 1935, in Morgan County to Gilbert William Hill and Irene Alford Hill. She was a homemaker.

She was wife of the late John Hutchins and sister of the late David Von Hill and Margie Hill Anderson.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Hutchins of Loganville, Ga., and Richard Hutchins of Douglasville, Ga.; one daughter, Kathy Reinochl of Eva; mother, Irene Hill of Eva; three brothers, Carl Hill of Falkville, Paul Gene Hill and Joe Hill, both of Eva; two sisters, Dean Hill Stevens of Snellville, Ga., and Sandra Hill Roberts of Eva; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Stevens, Tony Stevens, Scott Lanier, Josh Hill, Patrick Hill and David Patton.

Sue Lawrence

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Sue Lawrence, 70, of Hartselle, will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. William Allen officiating.

Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lawrence died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Parkway Medical Center. She was born July 10, 1931, in Morgan County to Zack Pitman and Auzelle Hogan Pitman. She was a sales clerk at Something Blue shop in Hartselle where she worked more than 15 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hartselle.

She was wife of the late Gurney "Buddy" Lawrence and mother of the late Leigh Ann Lawrence.

Survivors include two sons, Scotty Lawrence of Hartselle and Pat Lawrence of Trinity; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Simpson, Clint Lawrence, Justin Moore, Ricky Harp, Tom Greeson and Alex Garcia.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Hartselle.

Gervis Ashley Moore Jr.

BALLWIN, Mo. -- Funeral for Gervis Ashley Moore Jr., 77, of Ballwin will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Schrader Funeral Home.

Mr. Moore died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at St. John's Hospital at Creve Coeur, Mo. He was born May 20, 1924, in Decatur to Gervis A. Moore Sr. and Mildred Hosch Moore. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He started his career in Decatur as an accountant with Solutia Inc. and transferred to St. Louis, where he retired. He was the brother of the late Donald William Moore.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Wilson Moore; two sons, Jim Moore of Houston and David Moore of Ballwin; one daughter, Beth Wilks of Ballwin; three sisters, Coleen Dobbs, Mildred "Pat" Weaver and Mary Ann Hardin, all of Decatur; and nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the World War II Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 96766, Washington, D.C. 20090-6766.

Bertha Jewell Howard
ATHENS -- Funeral for Bertha Jewell Howard, 80, of Athens will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Herbert Chittam officiating.

Burial will be in Higgins Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Howard died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Athens Convalescent Center. She was born Dec. 22, 1921 in Limestone County to Sam and Maggie Chambers. She was a member of Hobbs Street Church of Christ and a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, George Howard and James Howard, both of Athens; one daughter, Peggy Aday of Cherokee; one sister, Jane Worley of Madison; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
