Funeral arrangements for Beulah Hutchenson Hester of Chattanooga will be announced by Elliott Funeral Home.

Birtie Lawrence Howell
84, homemaker

Graveside service for Birtie Lawrence Howell, 84, of Florence will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Bill Compton officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Howell died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Florence Comprehensive Care Center. She was born May 12, 1915, in Morgan County to Bob and Mollie Waters Lawrence. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Deanna Mayfield of Florence; one sister, Lovella Normal of Decatur; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

June Jarrett

Graveside service for June Jarrett, 63, of Decatur was to be today at 2 p.m. at Cave Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Greg Standridge officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

The family was to receive friends today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jarrett died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born June 6, 1936, in Wyoming.

She is survived by two sons, William Allen Fralick of Columbus, Ohio, and John L. Fralick of Florida; one daughter, Christine Fralick of Decatur; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Robert Elleby Ross Jr.
77, truck driver

Graveside service for Robert Elleby Ross Jr., 77, of Stamford, Conn., will be Wednesday at noon at Sterrs Cemetery with the Rev. Theodore Bone officiating and Sharpley Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Ross died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Courtland Gardens Health Center in Stamford. He was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Gary, Ind., to the late Robert Ross Sr. and Alice Ross. He was the widower of Geraldine Fletcher Ross.

Mr. Ross was a member of Wilson Memorial Church in Stamford and the Celestial Choir.

He was grand marshal of the Veterans Day Parade in Stamford in 1986, a veteran of World War II, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of the Stamford Royal Giants baseball team. He was a truck driver for Pitney-Bolls.

He is survived by two sons, Robert J. Ross III of Stamford and Alan D. Ross of Huntsville; two daughters, Patricia Cohn of Decatur and Alice D. Ross of Stamford; and seven grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Joyce Rodgers DeVaney
68, retired legal secretary
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Joyce Rodgers DeVaney, 68, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Larry Prince officiating.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at DeVaney Cemetery in Russell-ville. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. DeVaney died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at her home. She was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Morgan County to Wilburn Robert Rodgers and Mary Lucretia Templeton Rodgers. She was a member of North Highlands Church of Christ in Russellville and attended Hartselle Church of Christ. She was retired as a legal secretary for Guin, Bouldin & Porch Law Firm.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry DeVaney of Raleigh, N.C., and Robert C. DeVaney of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, William E. Rodgers of Vinemont and Bob Rodgers of Decatur; four sisters, Othella Rodgers, Margaret Dahlgren, Mary Frances Rodgers and Carolyn Nicholson, all of Hartselle; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels.

Acie Dotson
76, painter

Funeral for Acie Dotson, 76, of Decatur will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Shelton Funeral home with Wendell Thrasher and Jimmy Ricketts officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Dotson died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at his home. He was born Jan. 30, 1923, in Lawrence County to Jodie and Leila Morgan Dotson. He was a painter and a member of Decatur Holy Church of Christ. He was the father of the late Bobby Ray Dotson.

He is survived by one son, David Joe Dotson of Moulton; one brother, J.B. Dotson of Hillsboro; three sisters, Elsie George of Odensville, Vera Ricketts of Decatur and Earline Thrasher of Trinity; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Kirby, Jeff Koehoorn, Dale Roan, Randall Toone, Randy Toone and Jody Dotson.

Barbara Ann Gannaway
56, homemaker

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Barbara Ann Gannaway, 56, of Decatur will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville.

Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gannaway died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born July 26, 1943, in Madison County. A resident of Decatur for 13 years, she was a homemaker and a member of Flint Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Eddie Gannaway III of Huntsville; two daughters, Debby Turner of New Market and Lisa Freeman of Elora, Tenn.; one brother, James Reed of Atlanta; one sister, Ginger Sanders of Union, Ky.; and five grandchildren.

MOULTON -- Funeral for Beulah Hutcheson Hester, 74, of Moulton will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Moulton Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Darryl Wood officiating.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Red Bay with Elliott Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hester died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, in Chattanooga. She was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Franklin County. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Barry Hal Hester of North Carolina; one daughter, Judy Hester Bush of Chattanooga; one brother, Harold Hutcheson of Belmont, Miss.; two sisters, Tula Pearson and Jean Long, both of Red Bay; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Bush, Charles Carr, Scott Butler, Steve Butler, Scott Sanderson and Greg Gentry.

Charles R. 'Ike' Ikerman Sr.
80, retired lieutenant colonel

SAN ANTONIO -- Graveside service for Charles R. "Ike" Ikerman Sr., 80, of San Antonio was to be today at 10 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors and Sunset Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Ikerman died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. He was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Anniston. A former Decatur resident, he was a retired lieutenant colonel and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired as the post engineer at Fort Sam Houston in 1965. He worked in civil service until his second retirement in 1981. He was the widower of Jean Belle Spencer.

He is survived by two sons, Charles "Randy" Ikerman Jr. of San Antonio and Dennis S. Ikerman of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Lynda Ikerman Loyd of Austin; one sister, Katherine Ikerman Owens of Decatur; and two granddaughters.

Earl Wilson Rutherford
41, co-owner of B&R Vinyl

ATHENS -- Funeral for Earl Wilson Rutherford, 41, of Athens will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Jerry Smith officiating.

Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Rutherford died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Oct. 17, 1958, in Florida to James Earl and Jimmie Lou Rutherford. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and co-owner of B&R Vinyl in Athens.

He is survived by his wife, Janette Rutherford of Salem; two sons, Justin Rutherford of Salem and Jamie Rutherford of Savannah, Tenn.; one daughter, Brandy Rutherford of Salem; his father of Athens; his stepmother, Linda Rutherford of Athens; one brother, Raymond Rutherford of Athens; two sisters, Mary Ann Rutherford and Brenda Lee Winecke, both of Athens; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy Cox, John Hutzler, Dwight Bolin, Steve Gatlin, James Chambers and Kenny Green .

Jimmy Lee Ashby
69, roofing company owner
ATHENS -- Funeral for Jimmy Lee Ashby, 69, of Elkmont will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Dennis Ivey officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Ashby died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at his home. He was born May 14, 1930, in Lincoln County, Tenn., and owned Ashby & Sons Roofing Co. for years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Ashby; three sons, Tony Ashby of Palatka, Fla., and Frankie Ashby and Jimmy Dwight Ashby, both of Elkmont; eight daughters, Joann Riddle of Fayetteville, Tenn., Judy Spurlock of Satsuma, Fla., Patricia Woodall of Tullahoma, Tenn., Lesa Downes of Guntersville, Shelby Gordon and Charlotte Wales, both of Elkmont, and Pricilla Chavarria and Janice Seirra, both of Athens; one sister, Lucy Dempsey of Madison; 27 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dale Siniard, Clyde Robbins, Andy Pylant, Donald Hill, Randall Gordon and Jason Pendergrass.

Lurie Cowley

Funeral arrangements for Lurie Cowley, 77, of Decatur, who died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital, will be announced by Reynolds Funeral Home.
