Funeral arrangements for Marian Elizabeth Looney, 88, of Cedartown, Ga., who died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, in Cedartown, will be announced by Shelton Funeral Home.

James Edward Meeks

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for James Edward Meeks, 71, of Valhermoso Springs will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Twickenham Funeral Home-South with Dewitt Crow officiating.

Burial will be in Bartee Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Meeks died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville. He was born July 23, 1928, in Morgan County to Mathey and Annie Smithey Meeks.

He is survived by four sisters: Ollie Louise Sands of Fort Worth, Texas; Emma Victoria Thomas of Harvest; Linda Lang of Valhermoso Springs; and Mildred Harris of Lacey's Spring.

Blakely Alexandra Perrien
4 weeks old

NEW ORLEANS -- Funeral for Blakely Alexandra Perrien, 4 weeks, of Covington, La., was Dec. 4 at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Burial was in Green wood Cemetery.

The baby died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. She was born Nov. 2, 1999, in Covington.

She is survived by her parents, Mark and Lesley Perrien of Covington; her grandparents, Thomas and Joe Ann Perrien of New Orleans and Roy and Janey Sanderson of Guntersville; and her great-grandparents, Virgie Sanderson and Lottie Pepper, both of Athens, and Joseph and Ola Mae Cheleno and Ernest A. Perrien, all of New Orleans.

Memorials may be made to ECMO Fund, Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation, Division of Philanthropy, 1516 Jefferson Highway, New Orleans, LA 70121.

Stephen Alan Underwood Sr.
51, banking executive

Funeral for Stephen Alan Underwood Sr., 51, of Tallahassee, Fla., formerly of Decatur, will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. W.K. Stephenson officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Underwood died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, in Tallahassee. He was born March 31, 1948. He was a 1966 graduate of Decatur High School and earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Auburn University. He was assistant vice president of commercial lending at Central Bank of Alabama in Decatur, and was vice president at First State National Bank in Bainbridge, Ga. He also worked as senior vice president and senior lending officer for C&S Bank. In 1995, he became president at First Federal Savings Bank of Bainbridge. He was involved in various civic organizations, including Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, United Way, YMCA, Boy Scouts of America, Chamber of Commerce and American Heart Association. He was a hunter, fisherman and nature conservationist. He worked with Ducks Unlimited.

He was the son of the late Rufus D. Underwood Sr.

He is survived by one son, Stephen Alan Underwood Jr. of Tallahassee; one daughter, Michele Underwood-O'Brien of Tallahassee; two brothers, Rufus Underwood Jr. of Shreveport, La., and Taylor Underwood of Pittsburgh, Texas; a twin sister, Jan Bradley of Fort Worth, Texas; and his mother and stepfather, Mary Pitts Underwood-McDonald and Grady McDonald of Decatur.

Memorials may be made to the Annual Steve Underwood Partners with Youth Golf Tournament benefiting the YMCA scholarship and financial assistance fund. Mail contributions to Bainbridge YMCA, 1818 E. Shotwell St., Bainbridge, GA 31717, attention Ken Bailey.

Thomas Cecil Christopher
75, accountant
ATHENS -- Funeral for Thomas Cecil Christopher, 75, of Athens was to be today at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Robert Sharman III officiating.

Burial was to be in Roselawn Cemetery with McConnell Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Christopher died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital East. He was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Limestone County to John Edward and Mary Christopher.

He was a 1942 graduate of Athens High School and a 1953 graduate of Auburn University. He was certified public accountant and a former cost analyst for U.S. Steel. He retired in 1989 as managing partner at Christopher, Durham, Pepper, Gossett and Armstrong. He was vice president and treasurer of Valley Security Inc., and served on the legislative affairs committee of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants and Limestone County Auburn University Committee.

He was a past board member of Stovall Batteries Inc., Tennessee Valley Council Boy Scouts of America, First Alabama Bank and Sunbelt Metals Inc. He was past president of the Athens Jaycees, Athens Rotary Club, Athens-Limestone Chamber of Commerce, United Givers Fund, Athens Board of Education and Athens-Limestone County Industrial Development Committee. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46 and 1950-51. He was chairman of the board of deacons and ruling elder at First Presbyterian Church. He was named citizen of the year in 1970 and received the Silver Beaver from the Boy Scouts and the Paul Harris Fellow Award from Rotary. He was the brother of the late Carlos Christopher and Frances Kennemer.

He is survived by his wife, Aileen Orr Christopher; three sons, Mike Christopher of Canton Ga., Greg Christopher of Atlanta and Jeff Christopher of Auburn; one daughter, LeAnne Miller of Athens; four brothers, Nick Christopher of Huntsville, Harold Christopher of Cullman, and James Allen Christopher and Norris Christopher, both of Athens; one sister, Martha Jane Benfante of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Hoyt Williamson, Horace Freeman, Army Armitage, Jimmy Christopher, Clyde Scott and Bob Ingram.

William Harris Dobbs Sr.
72, retired pipe fitter

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for William Harris Dobbs Sr., 72, of Falkville will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Alred officiating.

Masonic graveside service will be at Mount Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Dobbs died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Cullman Health Care Center. He was born June 10, 1927, to William Felton and Mildred Dobbs. He was a pipe fitter for Tennessee Valley Authority and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, R.E. Oden Masonic Lodge No. 396 in Falkville and Cahaba Shrine Temple in Huntsville.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Marie Dobbs; two sons, Robert Motley of Guntersville and Harris Dobbs of Decatur; one daughter, Sandra Brown of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Masons will be pallbearers.

Laila Bell Goforth
96, homemaker

Graveside service for Laila Bell Goforth, 96, of Decatur will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Lowrey officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Goforth died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Oct. 19, 1903, in Lewisburg, Tenn., to Vollie Lee McCollum and Anna Mae McRory McCollum. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Gus L. Goforth and the mother of the late Martha Joyce Tuten.

She is survived by two daughters, Juanita Crow of Decatur and Virginia Lee Lowrey of Leeds; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Marie Lanier Gordon
76, homemaker

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Marie Lanier Gordon, 76, of Athens will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Athens City Cemetery with Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at 121 N. Jefferson St. in Athens.

Mrs. Gordon died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born April 10, 1923, in Tennessee. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. She was the mother of the late Ray Lanier Gordon.

She is survived by one daughter, Kitty Green haw of Athens; one sister, Jewel Lanier Parker of Waynesboro, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Lanier Green haw, Scott Gordon, Erik Gordon and Jason Gordon.

Ollie 'Snook' Pearl Bean Love
83, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ollie "Snook" Pearl Bean Love, 83, of Hartselle will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. William Depreast and the Rev. Earl Holt officiating.

Burial will be in Shoal Creek Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Love died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, in Hartselle. She was born March 9, 1916, in Morgan County to Joseph Wheeler Bean and Mary Weona Bean Tapscott. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church and the ladies' No. 1 Sunday school class. She was the widow of Nathan Leon Love.

She is survived by one sister, Julia Bean Byford of Hartselle.

Pallbearers will be Robert Johnson, Willie Dee Smith, Billy Chancellor Jr., Yoon K. Liaw, Brett David Byford, Jeff Byford, Bobby Eric Champion and Chuck Keenum.

Aurelia Walker Macomson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Memorial service for Aurelia Walker Macomson, 78, of Charlotte was Thursday at Sharon Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, N.C.

Mrs. Macomson died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. She was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Greenville, S.C., to Aurelia Alice Lodge Walker and Charles Lowry Walker. She graduated from Limestone College in North Carolina and served in the U.S. Navy WAVES, Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service, from 1943 to 1946. She married Wistar Wright Macomson of Spartanburg, S.C., in 1952.

She is survived by two sons, Rhett Lowry Macomson of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Wistar Wright Macomson Jr. of Lake Oswego, Ore.; one sister, Rachel Walker Pride of Decatur; and two granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
