William Donald Bridges
75, retired inspector

ATHENS -- Funeral for William Donald Bridges, 75, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with James Bridges officiating.

Burial was to be in Dement Cemetery.

Mr. Bridges died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Limestone County. He was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and worked as a meat and poultry inspector at Sweet Sue Kitchens. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Church of Christ and Masonic Lodge No. 16 in Athens. He was the father of the late Dereck Bridges and the brother of the late Aileen McElyea and Frank Bridges.

He is survived by his wife, Kate Bridges; two sons, Byron Bridges and Kent Bridges, both of Athens; two brothers, Gaston Bridges of Tuscumbia and James Bridges of Athens; one sister, Margaret McElyea of Athens; one half brother, Dwight Bridges of Athens; three half sisters, Linda Gordon and Wilda Davis, both of Athens, and Deloris McCoy of Pascagoula, Miss.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were to be Jason Bridges, Turner Ray Gordon, Todd Gordon, Gerald Gamble and Roger McElyea.

Charles Henry Fairbanks

Funeral arrangements for Charles Henry Fairbanks, 49, of Chattanooga, who died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, in Georgia, will be announced by Reynolds Funeral Home.

Norma S. Henderson

HARTSELLE -- Funeral arrangements for Norma S. Henderson, 91, of Hartselle, who died today, Dec. 21, 1999, at Hartselle Medical Center, will be announced by Peck Funeral Home.

Oliver Kyle Jarrett

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for Oliver Kyle Jarrett, 88, of Athens, who died today, Dec. 21, 1999, at Athens-Limestone Hospital, will be announced by Spry Funeral Home.

Marvin Eugene Johnson

PRICEVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for Marvin Eugene Johnson, 59, of Decatur, who died today, Dec. 21, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital, will be announced by Priceville Funeral Home.

Oscar Hartness Johnson Jr.
72, retired Monsanto engineer

Funeral for Oscar Hartness Johnson Jr., 72, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Hal Noble officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Dec. 4, 1927, in Mississippi to Oscar and Sarah White Johnson. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and played trumpet in the Sophisticated Swingers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from Monsanto after 33 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Verna V. Johnson; one son, W. Vernon Johnson of Madison; one daughter, Veanne J. Stewart of Franklin, Tenn.; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Sumrall of Sumrall, Miss.; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be William Craig Johnson, Jeffrey A. Stewart, Sidney Sumrall, Edward Grubbs, James Rowden and Jerry Alldridge.

Band members from the Sophisticated Swingers will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Decatur General Hospital Foundation.

Samuel Reed Miller
Infant

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for infant Samuel Reed Miller of Snead, who died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, the day of his birth, at Huntsville Hospital, was Sunday at Union Grove No. 2 Cemetery with the Rev. Milan Dekich officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

He was the grandson of the late Leonard Williams of Hartselle and the late Barbara Smith Miller of Oneonta.

He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Kelly Miller of Snead; and his grandparents, Judy Williams of Hartselle and Mr. and Mrs. Don Miller of Oneonta.

Sandra Prestwood Owens
48, retired secretary

Funeral for Sandra Prestwood Owens, 48, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Culotta officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. A prayer service will be tonight at 6:30 at the funeral home and the family will receive friends until 8.

Mrs. Owens died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital. She was born Sept. 27, 1951, in Decatur to Sam B. and Rosemary Prestwood. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and a 1969 graduate of Decatur High School. She was retired as a secretary from Fox Army Hospital at Redstone Arsenal.

She is survived by one son, Eddie Owens of Decatur; one daughter, Dawn Alred of Trinity; two brothers, Lee Prestwood of Hartselle and Steve Prestwood of Atlanta; one sister, Elizabeth Boyd of Springhill, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

William Sutherlin Jr.
68, retired chef

Funeral for William Sutherlin Jr., 68, of Decatur will be Wednesday at noon at Macedonia Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Lynn Herring officiating.

Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Sutherlin died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital. He was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Morgan County to William Sutherlin Sr. and Patty Adair Sutherlin. He was a retired chef at Steakhouse Restaurant and a member of Macedonia Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Charcie Lee Sutherlin; two sons, Joseph Sutherlin of Decatur and Kerry Sutherlin of Trinity; one daughter, Carolyn D. Sutherlin of Decatur; four brothers, William Teddy Sutherlin, Walter Sutherlin, Garfield Sutherlin and Anthony Sutherlin, all of Decatur; five sisters, Dorothy Guinn of Louisville, Ky., Norma Allison, Leila Thompson and Eloise Sutherlin, all of Decatur, and Ernestine Key of Huntsville; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Frank Lanier, Clifford Orr, Jimmy Orr, James Sutherlin, Christopher Sutherlin, Walter Sutherlin and Dewayne Turner.

Edgar S. Tucker
86, farmer

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Edgar S. Tucker, 86, of Cullman was to be today at 11 a.m. at Moss-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Jackson and the Rev. Larry Carter officiating.

Burial was to be in Good Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Tucker died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at Falkville Health Care Center. He was born Dec. 2, 1913, in Cullman. He was a farmer.

He is survived by two sons, Lewis D. Tucker of Cullman and Michael Edward Tucker of Hartselle; three daughters, Brenda Jean Grissom of Falkville, Norma Paulette Speegle of Oneonta and Judy Noels of Cullman; one brother, Roy V. Tucker of Pell City; three sisters, Mertis Bolzle of Cullman, Buna Carter of Gardendale and Nadine Hyde of Falkville; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Tennis Eugene Bass
93, World War II veteran

MOULTON -- Graveside service for Tennis Eugene Bass, 93, of Hillsboro will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Moulton Memory Gardens with the Rev. Mitchell Smith directing and Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Bass died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born June 26, 1906, in Lawrence County. He was a retired farmer and cotton gin owner. He was a World War II veteran, having served in North Africa, Italy and Germany. He served on the Lawrence Baptist Medical Center Hospital Board and Lawrence County Democratic Executive Committee. He was the widower of Lucille McDaniel Bass, and the brother of the late Otis Bass, Neil Bass, Eleanor Weatherwax, Mable Rhinehart and Myrl Newsome.

He is survived by one brother, Layton Bass of San Antonio; and one sister, Mary Dee Terry of Hillsboro.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Robert McDaniel, Tennis Smith, Rodney Terry, Dean Terry, Clark Weatherwax and Roger Weatherwax.

Roy MelvinBeavers Sr.

HUEYTOWN -- Funeral for Roy Melvin Beavers Sr., 82, of Hueytown was to be today at 11:30 a.m. at Brown-Service Funeral Home West with the Rev. John Killan officiating.

Ruth Sivley Buford
91, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ruth Sivley Buford, 91, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Cardwell and the Rev. Jack Redfearn officiating.

Burial will be in Center Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Buford died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Falkville Healthcare Center. She was born Aug. 21, 1908, in Tennessee to Grover and Ethel Ray Leath. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was the mother of the late Walter Sivley.

She is survived by four sons, William Sivley of Mount Clement, Mich., Billy Sivley of Decatur, Edward Sivley of Brooksville and Johnny Sivley of Hartselle; five daughters, Doris Abernathy of Morris, Jean Finley of Flint, Bobbie Anderson of Tanner, Mary Sanders of Fort Worth, Texas, and Linda Ricks of Hartselle; two stepdaughters, Jenny Townsend of Decatur and Nancy Buford of Atlanta; 39 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Ollie Harris

Funeral arrangements for Ollie Harris, 90, of Decatur, who died today, Dec. 29, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital, will be announced by Roselawn Funeral Home.
