Jewell Harper Rush

Funeral for Jewell Harper Rush, 97, of Decatur will be today at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Jackie Shelton officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rush died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at SunBridge Health Care Center. She was born Aug. 2, 1902, in Coosa County. She was a homemaker and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She was the mother of the late Thomas Massey and James Massey.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Simmons of Moulton and Sarah Lewis of Anniston; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Louis G. Snider
71, retired General Electric engineer

The family of Louis G. Snider, 71, of Decatur was to receive friends today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Highlands Funeral Home in Louisville, Ky., with burial in Hebron Cemetery.

Mr. Snider died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at his home. He was born Oct. 31, 1928, in Jeffersonville, Ind., to Jeanette Fricke Snider and Wilmer Snider. He was retired from General Electric, where he was a shop manager engineer. The graduate of Western Kentucky University was past president of Decatur Lions Club, volunteered with Junior Achievement and was a board member and past president of Tennessee Valley Rehabilitation Center.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joanne Snider; three sons, Michael Snider of Raleigh, N.C., Richard Snider of Louisville, Ky., and Scott Snider of Decatur; one daughter, Kimberley Stone of Port Royal, S.C.; one brother, Richard A. Snider of Louisville; one sister, Barbara Rogers of Louisville; and 10 grandchildren.

Walter Leon Spain
82, Baptist minister

HUNTSVILLE -- Graveside service for Walter Leon Spain, 82, of Huntsville was to be today at 2 p.m. in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Athens with Spry Funeral Home directing.

A memorial service will be at Whitesburg Baptist Church in the near future.

Mr. Spain died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Aug. 2, 1917, in Moulton, to Ed Spain and Mary Hayes Spain. He graduated from Morgan County High School and attended Florence State Teachers College and Howard College (now Samford University). He was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church for 28 years and served on its board of deacons, the pulpit, finance and other various committees.

Mr. Spain was minister at many Baptist churches in Alabama, Oklahoma and California and served on the board of directors of the Downtown Rescue Mission, where he was director of the senior program and formerly served as business manager and interim mission director.

For the past several years, he has led Sunday morning services at Hillhaven Nursing Home and recently began leading an additional Sunday service at the new Cogburn Nursing Home. He regularly bought fruits and vegetables and resold them to residents of the different retirement centers in Huntsville who were unable to leave home.

He was the brother of the late Paul Spain, Will Spain, J.E. Spain, Harry Spain, Price Spain, Thomas Spain, Hattie Mae Poole and Maimie Spain.

Mr. Spain is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lila Davenport Spain; five sons, Walter Spain of Gadsden, John Spain of Roswell, N.M., James Spain and Thomas Spain, both of Huntsville, and Cmdr. David Spain of Monterey, Calif.; four daughters, Betty Berry of Fort Worth, Sarah Spain of Huntsville' Elizabeth Grasty of Houston, Texas, and Mary Jo Windham of Sweetwater; one sister, Annie Laura Whitworth of Hartselle; 26 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Meriam Causby
Funeral for Meriam Causby, 82, of Wagoner, Okla., formerly of Lawrence County, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Courtland Baptist Church with Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Causby died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, in Wagoner.

W.E. Billy Kelley
74, Wolverine retiree

MOULTON -- Funeral for W.E. Billy Kelley, 74, of Hatton was to be today at 2 p.m. at Elliott Funeral Home with Sam Wallace officiating.

Burial was to be in Ferguson Cemetery.

Mr. Kelley died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at National Health Care. He was born March 11, 1925, in Lawrence County. He was retired from Wolverine Tube, where he worked in shipping.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Kelley; one daughter, Patsy Kelley Pierce of Hatton; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Wade Kerby, Gene Jeffreys, Kelley Derrick, Steven Kerby, Burlas Jeffreys, Gary Pierce, Jack Derrick and Joel Little.

Barbara Blount Lovelace
75, homemaker

Funeral for Barbara Blount Lovelace, 75, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Brewton with Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Brewton City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 to 7:30 at the church.

Mrs. Lovelace died Sunday, Jan 9, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Union Springs to Winton M. and Clara Belle Blount. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by three sons, Yank Lovelace of Brewton, and Barney Lovelace and Houston Lovelace, both of Decatur; two daughters, Sharon Blackburn of Birmingham and Barbara Burton of Bronxville, N.Y.; two brothers, Winton Blount of Montgomery and Houston Blount of Birmingham; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 1510 Escambia Ave., Brewton, AL 36426.

Brandon Miguel Miller
6, Decatur student

Funeral for Brandon Miguel Miller, 6, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephens Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Hosea Garrett officiating.

Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Brandon died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Decatur. He was born April 22, 1993, in Muskogee, Okla. He was a first-grader at Frances Nungester Elementary School and attended St. Stephens Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his father, George Michael Miller of Decatur; his mother, Lakesa Colston of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Brittany Colston of Kansas City; his grandparents, George Miller of Courtland and Denise Jones of Orlando, Fla.; and his great-grandparents, Jessie Mae Chairs and Humphrey Chairs, both of Decatur, and Mary Colston of Kansas City.

Pallbearers will be Roderick Austin, Dedra Miller, Cedrick Franklin and Glenn Hood.

Patricia Ann Chairs Miller
48, nurse

Funeral for Patricia Ann Chairs Miller, 48, of Courtland will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephens Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Hosea Garrett officiating.

Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Miller died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Decatur. She was born Aug. 28, 1951, in Decatur to Humphrey and Jessie Mae Chairs. She was a registered nurse for Decatur Orthopaedic Clinic and a member of St. Stephens Primitive Baptist Church, where she was financial secretary and a member of the Mothers Board.

She is survived by her husband, George Miller; two sons, Patrick Sales of Huntsville and George Michael Miller of Decatur; four daughters, Laryssa Fennell and Jessica Miller, both of Decatur, and Miriam Boyd and Meredith Townsend, both of Courtland; her parents of Decatur; two brothers, James Chairs of Decatur and Larry Chairs of New Orleans; two sisters, Ella Orr of Decatur and Alma Barnes of Hartselle; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Herman Robinson, Michael Miller, John Robinson, Wayne Powell, David Hill and Tyrone Orr.

Honorary pallbearers will be church deacons.

Paul Miller
80, civil service retiree

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Paul Miller, 80, of Eva will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church in Eva with the Rev. Lester Veal and Rev. Clyde Ledlow officiating.

Burial will be in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Miller died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at his home. He was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Blount County to John F. and Mary Saint Miller. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of Westside Baptist Church and a retired civil service employee at Redstone Arsenal. He was the widower of Ozell Clemons Miller.

He is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Holmes, Linda Morgan and Ginger Cobbs, all of Eva, and Anne Blackmon of Arab; one brother, Andrew Miller of Baileyton; one sister, Vera Mae Haney of Cullman; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Holmes, Donald Holmes, Dustin Cobbs, Adam Cobbs, Jason Blackmon and Chad Blackmon.

Mary Christine Montgomery
83, retired cafeteria worker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Mary Christine Montgomery, 83, of Moulton will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Shelton officiating.

Burial will be in Montgomery Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Montgomery died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at National Health Care. She was born April 30, 1916, in Lawrence County. She was a retired cafeteria worker from Moulton Elementary School and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Don Montgomery of Birmingham; four daughters, Doris Frost of Eva, Willine Legg and Gayle Porter, both of Moulton, and Vicki Mosley of Decatur; one brother, J.D. Armor of Muscle Shoals; two sisters, Lucy Dean Preston of Moulton and Pauline Parker of Florence; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Goldie Elizabeth Nicholson
86, homemaker

PRICEVILLE -- Funeral for Goldie Elizabeth Nicholson, 86, of Huntsville, formerly of Hartselle, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Priceville Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeri Hunt officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nicholson died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Feb. 19, 1913, in Collinsville to Matt D. and Hattie Belyeu Hayes. She was a homemaker, a member of Hopewell Homemakers Club in Hartselle since 1981 and was selected Morgan County Club Woman of the Year in 1992. She was the mother of the late Davon Nicholson and the sister of the late Christine Cleckler.

She is survived by one son, Ben Nicholson of Huntsville; two daughters, Delores Cooper of Houston and DeAnna Fowler of Huntsville; one brother, James M. Hayes of Whitwell, Tenn.; one sister, Frances Curtis of Rossville, Ga.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the building fund of Forest Chapel United Methodist Church of Hartselle.

Flora 'Gladys' Norris
91, homemaker

Funeral for Flora "Gladys" Norris, 91, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Truman Harris and Rev. Charles Ervin officiating.

Burial will be in Moss Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Norris died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Dec. 30, 1908, in Morgan County. She was a homemaker and a member of Sixth Avenue Church of God. She was the widow of Sherman Norris.

She is survived by one brother, Coleman Lott of Priceville.

Pallbearers will be Chilton Vest, Glenn Norris, Randy Lott, David Lott, Mike Lott and Eric Lott.
