Luther 'Bill' McLain
69, retired radio salesman/announcer

Family memorial service for Luther "Bill" McLain, 69, of Hartselle will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Mr. McLain died today, Jan. 13, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Home in Madison. He was born Feb. 23, 1930, in Marshall County to Obie and Lala McLain. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from WFMH radio station in Cullman, where he was an announcer and worked in sales.

He is survived by two sons, Danny McLain of Montgomery and Timothy McLain of Auburn; two daughters, Sandra McCurley of Hartselle and Shelia McLain of Guntersville; two brothers, Verlon McLain of Grant and David McLain of Scottsboro; one sister, Joyce Troglen of Atlanta; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family requests no flowers.

Marie S. Owen
Retired bookkeeper

Funeral for Marie S. Owen of Decatur will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Culotta officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Rosary will be said tonight at 6 at the funeral home and the family will receive friends afterward.

Mrs. Owen died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Herschel Owen; and one brother, Herman Schnur.

Pallbearers will be James Pyron, Sonny Bailey, Gary Pullam, Mark Maloney, George Harvey, Ken Bludgen and James Owen.

Stella Reeder
93, author

CHATTANOOGA -- Funeral for Stella Reeder, 93, of Chattanooga was Monday at Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Stitts officiating.

Burial was in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Reeder died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at her home. She was born in Morgan County to George Washington and Effie Powell Beasley. A former resident of Hartselle and Florence, she was a member of Bayside Baptist Church and the Nancy Ward Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a former member of First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school.

She wrote "My Memories, 1906-1994," "My Memories II, 1906-1997" and "Pardon My Southern Accent," and was researching 24 families, including Beasley, Plemmons, Powell and Capt. Thomas Wallace. She was a graduate of Coffee High School, attended the University of North Alabama and Vanderbilt University, and was a retired third-grade teacher. She was the widow of William Marvin Reeder.

She is survived by one daughter, Jane Beasley Reeder of Chattanooga; one grandson; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Marvin and Stella Reeder Music Scholarship at Chattanooga State Technical Community College.

Mary Edna Bibb
83, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Mary Edna Bibb, 83, of Danville will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Delashaw officiating.

Burial will be in Roundtop Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bibb died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at home. She was born Nov. 10, 1916, in Lawrence County to Britton Jackson Steel and Fannie Mae Garrnett Steel. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Sam Bibb; three sons, Robert Bibb of Decatur, Dale Bibb of Neel and Richard Bibb of Hartselle; five brothers, Johnie Steel of Ohio, Dewey Steel, Emmett Steel and Cecil Steel, all of Danville, and Earnest Steel of Morris; one sister, Odie Lee Lawrence of Danville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Bibb, Brandon Bibb, Stanley Bibb, Jason Self, Todd Bennich and Jack Steel.

Alvin B. 'Al' Burleson
64, civil service retiree

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Alvin B. "Al" Burleson, 64, of Huntsville will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home with the Rev. Byron White officiating.

Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Burleson died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at home. He was born Nov. 30, 1935, in Johnson City, Tenn. A resident of Huntsville for 42 years, he was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and retired after 35 years as a civil service employee.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Burleson; one son, Tim A. Burleson of Decatur; one daughter, Jamie Cook of Huntsville; one brother, Robert Burleson of Santa Clarita, Calif.; two sisters, Justine Rosser of Charlotte, N.C., and Martha Miley of Jacksonville, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church building fund or to Hospice Family Care in Huntsville.

Dissie L. Cobb
85, Goodyear retiree

Funeral for Dissie L. Cobb, 85, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Graham officiating.

Burial will be in Falkville Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cobb died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born March 23, 1914, in Morgan County to Robert Rufus Lawrence and Exie Smith Lawrence. She retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. after 30 years of service. She was the widow of Elbert Cobb and the mother of the late Genie Cobb.

She is survived by one sister, Reba Ozbolt of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Ozbolt, Robert Ozbolt, Ronald D. Ozbolt, Michael Ozbolt, Bobby Ozbolt and Allen Teague.

Ruth Hughes Dodd
100, homemaker

Funeral for Ruth Hughes Dodd, 100, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Ralph Stout and Mike King officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dodd died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Oct. 6, 1899, in Elkmont. She was a homemaker and member of Grant Street Church of Christ since 1925. She served as grand marshal of the 1999 Decatur Christmas Parade. She was the widow of Frank James Dodd.She is survived by one daughter, Margaret D. Reeder of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Goode, Richard Goode, Rod Goode, Jack Fite, Pat Fite, Walter Rochelle, Jim Warren and Farrell Tucker.

Iola Graham Evans

HARTSELLE -- Funeral arrangements for Iola Graham Evans, 65, of Falkville, who died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Baptist Medical Hospital Princeton in Birmingham, will be announced by Peck Funeral Home.

Frank Watson
68, retired pipe insulator

ATHENS -- Funeral for Frank Watson, 68, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Don Osborne and Tim Keenum officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Watson died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Sept. 18, 1931, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. He was a retired pipe insulator and lived most of his life in Limestone County. He was the widower of Dorothy Watson and the father of the late Chris Watson and Steve Watson.

He is survived by one son, Roger Watson of Athens; two daughters, Lee Ann Bailey and Sandra Williams, both of Athens; three brothers, Dennis Watson of Groveland, Fla., and Neal Watson and Jim Watson, both of Winter Garden, Fla.; five sisters, Ruth Hayes of Toledo, Ohio, Sara Hagood of Columbia, Tenn., Betty Yelverton of Linden, Tenn., Norm Sutton of Peoria, Ill., and Kathleen West of Lima, Ohio; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lee Gordon, Dustin Crews, Dennis Gordon, Joel Goff, John Irvin and Kenny Watkins.

Elizabeth Ford

MEMPHIS -- Funeral for Elizabeth Ford, 92, of Memphis will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brantley Funeral Home with the Rev. John Bomar and the Rev. Sanford Cooper officiating.

Burial will be in Blocker Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ford died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Allenbrook Healthcare. She was born April 7, 1907, in Germantown, Tenn., to Maggie and Isom Trusty. She was a member of Trinity Chapel and a retired day-care attendant, and had worked for Jones Peach Orchard.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas E. Ford of Decatur and Jerry Ford of Collierville, Tenn.; four daughters, Helen Cooper of Morristown, Tenn., Velma Smith of Memphis, Shirley Leake of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Doris Henderson of Southaven, Miss.; two brothers, James E. Trusty of Olive Branch, Miss., and Clarence Trusty of Memphis; two sisters, Maggie Whitten of Cordova, Tenn., and Beatrice Watkins of Memphis; 23 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Gladys McCravy Graul
89, homemaker

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Gladys McCravy Graul, 89, of Falkville will be Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Rodgers and the Rev. George Redding officiating and Williams-McCracken Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Graul died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Falkville Nursing Home. She was born March 15, 1910, in Alabama to William Seburn and Donna Moody Lynn. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Ray McCravy an Donald McCravy, both of Vinemont; one brother, Hollis Lynn of Decatur; one sister, Lacy Simms of Orlando, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren.

The body will be at the church two hours before the funeral.

Alonzo Griffin
79, retired school bus driver

Funeral for Alonzo Griffin, 79, of Oakville will be Sunday at noon at Gibson Chapel Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Yarbrough officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Griffin died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born July 3, 1920, in Lawrence County to Mary and Andy Griffin. He drove a school bus for Lawrence County Board of Education. He also worked in the Housekeeping Department at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center.

He was a member of Gibson Chapel Methodist Church. He served as a steward at the church and was superintendent of Sunday school. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Regue Chapter No. 69, where he was secretary. He was the past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Orba Chapter No. 148.

He is survived by three sons, Leonard Stover of Louisiana, Randy Griffin of Decatur and Gregory Griffin of Oakville; two brothers, L.V. Griffin and P.B. Griffin, both of Cleveland, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Masonic brothers.

Willie B. 'Catk Brown' Mason
57, custodian

FLORENCE -- Funeral for Willie B. "Catk Brown" Mason, 57, of Hillsboro will be Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Marcus Davidson officiating and Thompson & Son Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery in Courtland.

Mr. Mason died Monday, Jan. 25, 2000, in Winchester, Tenn. He resided in Lawrence County for 54 years, and was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church and a custodian at Wayne Poultry.

He is survived by four sons, Alfie Curley Young, Carlos Ashford and Gregory Watkins, all of Decatur, and Willie B. Mason of Courtland; seven daughters, Lisa Arthur Nance of Decatur, Shannin King of Tampa, Fla., Vanessa Mason of Huntsville, and Patricia Gaitor, Keirra Orr, Keonna Warren and Destin Orr, all of Decatur; five sisters, Laura Staton, of New Castle, Del., Mattie Ricks an Desiella Mason, both of Courtland, Lela Reed of Hillsboro, and Suzie Alford of Los Angeles; seven brothers, Robert Mason of Moulton, Luster Brown of Courtland, S.T. Jean Fuqua and M.C. Jean Ashford, both of Trinity, Robert Simmons of Decatur, Rufus Evelyn Mason and Samuel Mason, both of Louisville, Ky.; and 10 grandchildren.

The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Nephews will be pallbearers.
