ATHENS -- Funeral for Mellie Mavene Reyer Broadway, 76, of Elkmont will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Samuel A. Mitchell Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church 45 minutes before the service.

Mrs. Broadway died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at her home. She was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Decatur. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was the mother of the late Richard Carter Broadway.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Carter Broadway; one son, Philip Edward Broadway of Athens; one daughter, Marsha Denise Broadway of Orem, Utah; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

Deborah Thomas Creel
44, engineer

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Deborah Thomas Creel, 44, of Somerville will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Hancock officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Creel died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Crestwood Medical Center. She was born May 19, 1956, in Illinois to Willie Thurman and Mavene Wilson Thomas. She was an engineer for the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command in Huntsville. She was the sister of the late Janice Dianne New.

Survivors include her husband, Eddy Creel; one stepson, Randy Creel of Huntsville; her parents of Somerville; one sister, Patricia Hill of Hartselle; and one grandson.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Hill, Norman Smith, Norton Smith, Wiley Looney, Ricky Dean and Eric Fowler.

Richard T. Crowe

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for Richard T. Crowe, 60, of Decatur, who died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, will be announced by McConnell Funeral Home.

Dorothy Coffey Jones
79, retired rural letter carrier

SYLACAUGA -- Funeral for Dorothy Coffey Jones, 79, of Lucas, Texas, formerly of Lawrence County, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Green officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5:30 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jones died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at the home of her daughter. She was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Russellville to Homer D. Coffey and Jennie Morris Coffey. She retired as a rural letter carrier with the Sylacauga Post Office after 33 years. She was a member of Bluff Springs Baptist Church. She was the widow of Edgar Jones.

Survivors include one son, Charles L. Jones of Panama City, Fla.; one daughter, Phyllis Henson of Lucas, Texas; one brother, Homer D. "Dick" Coffey Jr. of Centre; two sisters, Helen C. Johnson and Geraldine C. Horton, both of Sylacauga; five grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Joe Owens, Gordon Varner, J.W. Jones Jr., Al Huddleston, Freddie Godbehere and Roger Forbus.

Alyne Moore
85, homemaker

Graveside service for Alyne Moore, 85, of Buena Vista, Ga., formerly of Decatur, was to be today at 11 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Dunivant officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Moore died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Marion Memorial Nursing Home in Buena Vista. She was born June 22, 1915, in Decatur. She was a homemaker and the widow of Paul M. Moore.

Survivors include one sister, Ann Orr of Dallas, Texas.

Betty Joyce Moore
62, homemaker

ATHENS -- Funeral for Betty Joyce Moore, 62, of Homewood, Ill., will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Jessie Littrell officiating.

Burial will be in Mtichell Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Moore died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, Ill., She was born Nov. 23, 1938, in Alabama to Johnnie Phillips and Hattie Raney Phillips. She was a homemaker and a member of Sauk Village Church of God.

Survivors include her husband, James L. Moore; one son, Jimmy Moore of South Holland, Ill.; three daughters, Wanda Moore of Riverdale, Ill., Donna Oliver of Homewood, Ill., and Suzanne Oliver of Posen, Ill.; three brothers, Joe C. Phillips of West Lake, Ohio, James L. Phillips of Columbia, Tenn., and Travis J. Phillips of Lexington; two sisters, Robbie Harris of Harvey, Ill., and Carol Sue Davis of Athens; and 13 grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Annette Kyle Patterson
80, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Annette Kyle Patterson, 80, of Hartselle will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Phillip Hines officiating.

Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Patterson died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Oct. 12, 1920, in Morgan County to Thomas E. Kyle and Mary Lou Pence Kyle. She was a member of Hartselle Church of Christ. She was a homemaker and retired bookkeeper.

Survivors include her husband, M.M. Patterson; one son, David Patterson of Huntsville; five daughters, Judy Lett and Susan Mayes, both of Hartselle, Janice Bowers of Mobile, Carol Jarrett of Danville and Cindy Murphy of Falkville; one sister, Fern Johnson of Somerville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Evelyne Stephenson
83, retired Kroger's employee

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Evelyne Stephenson, 83, of Hartselle was Wednesday at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Pitts officiating. Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery.

Ms. Stephenson died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Oct. 24, 1917, in Morgan County to Claude Stephenson and Eva Elizabeth Landers Stephenson. She was a member of Danville Baptist Church and a retired Kroger's employee after 34 years of service.

Survivors include one brother, Claude Wayne Stephenson of Hartselle; and two sisters, Hilda Stephenson and Lazelle Stephenson, both of Hartselle.

James Leldon Stewart
61, retired painter

Funeral for James Leldon Stewart, 61, of Decatur will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Manly officiating.

Burial will be in Raper Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Stewart died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Parkway Medical Center. He was born May 12, 1939, in Morgan County to Charlie Walker Stewart and Annie Lorene Stover Stewart. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was a retired painter.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Bowling Stewart; two sons, Greg Stewart and Mark Stewart, both of Decatur; four daughters, Beverly Moore, Dana Steele and Jill Prater, all of Trinity, and Kristi Stover of Danville; one brother, Charles Stewart of Decatur; two sisters, Marie Barnes of Trinity and Linda Brakeman of Decatur; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Brakeman, Stuart Brakeman, Mike Linderman, Ricky Barnes, Gaylon Barnes and Arnold Russell.

Vernice D. Terry

TRINITY -- Funeral for Vernice D. Terry, 72, of Trinity will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Oscar Ray Gray and the Rev. Marvin Pitts officiating.

Burial will be in Morris Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Terry died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born April 27, 1928, in Lawrence County to Atwell Smith and Viola Smith. She was a homemaker and was the mother of the late Carolyn Allen.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce Terry; one son, Randy Terry of Trinity; two daughters, Linda Johnson and Gayle Gibson, both of Trinity; four brothers, Hershel Smith of Trinity, and Edward Smith, Charles Smith and Willard Smith, all of Moulton; four sisters, Oralene Jones of Aroura, Ill., Dorothy Freeman of Hatton, Faye J. Wallace of Tampa. Fla., and Eloise Kindt of Moulton; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

William Horace 'Bill' Thompson
63, Champion Paper foreman

Graveside service for William Horace "Bill" Thompson, 63, of Decatur was to be today at 2 p.m. at Pinewood Memorial Cemetery in Arkansas with the Rev. David Newberry officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Thompson died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at his home. He was born Sept. 8, 1937, in Hamburg, Ark., to Horace Thompson and Thelma Ramage Thompson. He was a foreman for Champion Paper Co., now International Paper.

Survivors include his wife, Janet K. Thompson; and one sister, Jerrie Ann Thompson of Crossett, Ark.

Betty Florence Black
81, Howard Johnson retiree
ATHENS -- Funeral for Betty Florence Black, 81, of Franklin, Tenn., formerly of Athens, will be Saturday at noon at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin Havens officiating.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Black died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at National Health Care in Franklin. She was born Sept. 25, 1919, in New York. She was retired from Howard Johnson and was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Bryan Black of Savannah, Tenn., Bradley Black of Lockhaven, Pa., and Marshall Black of Kildeer, Ill.; one daughter, Carol McDaniel of Franklin, Tenn.; one brother, Burton Baer of Largo, Fla.; two sisters, Beatrice Welin of Blandford, Mass., and Catherine Kaste of Westfield, Mass.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Louise Drury Chandler
86, homemaker

Funeral for Louise Drury Chandler, 86, of Decatur will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Culotta officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. Rosary will be said at 7.

Mrs. Chandler died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Sunbridge Healthcare of Decatur. She was born Aug. 5, 1914, in Henderson County, Ky., to George I. Drury and Gertrude Willett Drury. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

Survivors include one son, Robert Leman Chandler of Decatur; one brother, Raymond Drury of Owensboro, Ky.; one sister, Margaret Mills of Princeton, Ind.; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bart Chandler, Brent Chandler, Mark VanDyke, James Edward Bartley, Mike Drury and Eugene Basham.

Delmar Paul Coffield
88, electronic technician

ATHENS -- Funeral for Delmar Paul Coffield, 88, of Athens will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Greg Tucker officiating.

Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Coffield died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born May 5, 1912, in West Virginia. He was a retired electronic technician who worked at Toledo Scales. He was an elder and a member of Westview Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in the 311th Infantry Headquarter Company and the 72nd Lightning Division during World War II. He was the grandfather of the late Jill Jamerson.

Survivors include his wife, June P. Coffield; one son, Franklin Coffield of Athens; one daughter, Joyce Jamerson of Lakeland, Fla.; one brother, Joseph Coffield of Belpre, Ohio; one sister, Margaret Walker of Colerain, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randy Jamerson, Byron Jamerson, Allen Jamerson, Andy Coffield, Darren Coffield, Greg Tucker, Stuart Wilson and Bert Wilson.
