Katlyn Lacey Mitchell

MOULTON -- Funeral for Katlyn Lacey Mitchell, 6, of Russellville was to be today at 2 p.m. at Bethsadia Baptist Church with the Rev. Amos Hood, the Rev. Harold Letson and the Rev. Edward LouAllen officiating.

Burial was to be in Gargis Cemetery in Russellville with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

The child died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at her home. She was born Feb. 8, 1994, in Decatur to Kenneth Mitchell and Joyce Drane Mitchell. She was the granddaughter of Irvin Mitchell, Lona Mitchell and Clyde Drane.

Survivors include her parents; two sisters, Kenney Wood of Cullman and Kelley Gillespie of Vina; and one grandmother, Eugenia Drane of Moulton.

State troopers from the Decatur Post were to serve as pallbearers.

Eva Augusta Bowling Shelton
86, homemaker

TRINITY -- Funeral for Eva Augusta Bowling Shelton, 86, of Caddo will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Caddo Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. Greg Compton, the Rev. Greg Standridge and the Rev. Chris Shelton officiating.

Burial will be in Caddo Cemetery with Parkway Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Caddo Congregational Christian Church. The body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.

Mrs. Shelton died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at National Health Care Center in Moulton. She was born Nov. 25, 1914, in Lawrence County to William "Bud" Bowling and Edna H. Bowling. She was a lifetime member of Caddo Congregational Christian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, vacation Bible school director and active in the Church Ladies Club. She was a member of the Mull Book Singers and Midway Homemakers Club. She attended school at Caddo, New Center and Moulton. She received her general equivalency diploma from East Lawrence High School. She cared for a number of children in her home, including several foster children. She was the widow of the Rev. Earnest Thomas Shelton and sister of Vera Bond.

Survivors include six sons, Hayward Shelton and Marshall Shelton, both of Trinity, Max Shelton, Fred Shelton and Kyle Shelton, all of Decatur, and Gwen Shelton of Destin, Fla.; five daughters, Margaret Suggs, Donna Beams and Judy Sims, all of Decatur, Rita Cheatham of Moulton and Lisa Buttram of Trinity; two brothers, Austell Bowling of Hartselle and Willard Bowling of Decatur; one sister, Ima Hitt of Trinity; 33 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Hayward Shelton, Marshall Shelton, Max Shelton, Fred Shelton, Kyle Shelton and Gwen Shelton.

Grandsons will be honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Caddo Congregational Building Fund or Caddo Cemetery Fund.

Mary Sue Breedlove Smith

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Mary Sue Breedlove Smith, 79, of Guntersville will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Forrest Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith died today, Jan. 22, 2001, at Barfield Health Care in Guntersville. Further arrangements will be announced by the funeral home.

Stella Ethel Brown
97, homemaker
ANDERSON -- Graveside services for Stella Ethel Brown, 97, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at Mitchell Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Grisham officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Brown died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born Dec. 3, 1903, in Lauderdale County. She was a homemaker and a member of The Eastern Star.

Survivors include two nephews, Harold Nesmith of Rogersville and Arnold Long of Muscle Shoals; and two nieces, Jane Nesmith Cosby of Rogersville and June Joiner Godfrey of Decatur.

Sue Patterson Burks
74, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Graveside service for Sue Patterson Burks, 74, of Birmingham will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Falkville City Cemetery with the Rev. Blake Tanner officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at her home at 1048 Linkside Drive in Birmingham. The family also will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burkes died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Brookwood Medical Center. She was born May 14, 1926, in Morgan County to Wesley Malcomb Patterson and Katie Sue Hodges Patterson. She was a homemaker and attended Asbury Methodist Church in Birmingham.

Survivors include three sons, John Patterson Burks, Edward Alan Burks and David Scott Burks, all of Birmingham; one brother, Wesley M. Patterson Jr. of Falkville; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Barkley, Alan Burks, John Burks, David Burks, Mal Patterson and Mike Patterson.

Memorials may be made to Alabama Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 512, Birmingham, AL 35201.

Rev. William Douglas Burnett
51, minister

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Funeral service for the Rev. William Douglas Burnett, 51, of Steubenville was held Jan. 19 at Mosti Funeral Home Sunset Chapel.

Burial was in Cross Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Burnett died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Shady Side Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born Dec. 6, 1949, in Hartselle to Calvin Burnett and Betty Burnett. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He graduated from Wilmington University in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in sociology and was later ordained a Baptist minister in Steubenville. He also appeared in television commercials, and in the 1982 movie "Heart of Steel" and in the 1985 film "Teachers." He was the father of Ryan Douglas Burnett.

Survivors include two sons, Joshua Burnett of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Brandon Burnett of Steubenville; and one daughter, Sara Ann Burnett of Steubenville; one brother, Larry Burnett of Hartselle; one sister, Joann Fortenberry of Decatur; and one granddaughter.

Virginia Miller Curtis
84, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Virginia Miller Curtis, 84, of Trinity will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Bolan officiating.

Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Curtis died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born Nov. 3, 1916, in Lawrence County to F.A. Miller and Annie Yokum Miller. She was a homemaker and the widow of Robert Curtis.

Survivors include five sons, Kenneth Curtis of Town Creek, Dennis Curtis and Charles Curtis, both of Moulton, and Danny Curtis and Bobby Curtis, both of Cullman; one daughter, Jewell Curtis Waits of Moulton; four brothers, Gordon Miller of Tarrant, Lonnie Miller of Gardendale, James Miller of Morris and A.J. Miller, of Gainsville, Ga.; four sisters, Mary Kelso of Danville, Dean Jordan of Jasper, Katie Livingston of Bremen and Betty McElvana of Morrilton, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Ricky Gene Lemons
46, disabled cabinetmaker

ARAB -- Funeral for Ricky Gene Lemons, 46, of Arab was to be today at 2 p.m. at Gober Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Keith Hodges and the Rev. Shannon Bethune officiating.

Burial was to be in Union Grove Cemetery in Morgan City.

Mr. Lemons died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Marshall Medical Center North. He was born Nov. 27, 1954, in Morgan County to Gene L. Lemons and Sarah Mavis Wray Lemons. He was a disabled cabinetmaker and a member of Brindlee Mountain Baptist Church. He grew up in the Morgan City area.

Survivors include one son, Todd Lemons of Arab; one daughter, Heather Lemons of Fairview; his mother of Arab; one sister, Celesia Bethune of Morgan City; and one grandson.

Pallbearers were to be Harrield Willingham, James Glass, Terry Thomas, Shane McKinney, Chris Head, Jeff Dugins, Jerry Gregory and Bill Lawrence.

Ruth Olene Morris
82, retired Monsanto employee

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Ruth Olene Morris, 82, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Penn officiating.

Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the funeral home.

Miss Morris died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in Decatur. She was born April 2, 1918, in Morgan County to William Lonnie Morris and Ruth Fields Morris. She was the sister of Howell Morris. She was retired from Monsanto in Decatur.

Survivors include one niece, Rebecca Morris Wadley of Hoover, two great nephews and one great-niece.

Pallbearers will be J.C. Fields, Robert Morris, Milford Fields, Mark Sandlin, Alan Sandlin and Bob Seibert.

Felter C. Oden
84, retired Americold furnace operator

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Felter C. Oden, 84, of Vinemont will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Flint Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. W.C. Green and the Rev. Buddy Price officiating.

Burial will be in Flint Creek Cemetery with Moss Service Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Oden died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at his home. He was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Alabama to Elias Oden and Alice Couch Oden. He was a retired furnace operator for Americold Compressor and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Oden; two daughters, Darlene Day of Vinemont and Debbie Green berg of Decatur; one sister, Alma Shikles of Cullman; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cullman County.

Lissie Frost Pearson
82, homemaker

MOULTON -- Funeral for Lissie Frost Pearson, 82, of Trinity will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Gillespie and the Rev. Edward LouAllen officiating.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight form 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pearson died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 2. 1919, in Lawrence County to John Frost and Crellar Flannagin Frost. She was a homemaker, and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Mrs. Pearson was the widow of Russell Pearson and the mother of Rayburn Pearson.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Gillespie of Danville and Glennette Terry of Trinity; three brothers, Frankie Frost, Ruel Frost and Paris Frost, all of Moulton; two sisters, Maggie Stephens of Portage, Mich. and Ruth Sandlin of Moulton; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Russell Eugene Slaten

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Russell Eugene Slaten, 74, of Fyffe will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. David Bradford officiating.

Burial will be in Shoal Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Slaten died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Jackson County Hospital. He was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Morgan County to William Pierce Slaten and Ruby Augusta Lawrence Slaten.

Survivors include three brothers, Raymond Slaten of Athens, Frank Slaten of Danville and Joe Slaten of Union Hill; six sisters, Betty Watson of Hartselle, Ray Prince of Massey and Violet Blackburn, Ruth Baldwin, Lucille Crume and Shirley Rabens, all of Charleston, S.C.

Pallbearers will be Scotty Slaten, Bobby Prince, Tommy Spague, Curtis Slaten, Billy Martin and Joe Watson.
