Herman Milton McGartha

Funeral for Herman Milton McGartha, 90, of Huntsville, formerly of Houston, Texas, will be Sunday at noon at Roselawn Funeral Home with Elder Steve Macky officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. McGartha died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Windsor House in Huntsville. He was born Sept. 6, 1911, in Houston to Mr. and Mrs. Elliott McGartha. He was married to Isabella Pollard McGartha for 46 years.

He was a retiree of the state of California, where he lived for many years. He was a member of Miracle Tabernacle Church in Long Beach, Calif. He moved to Huntsville in 1999.

Survivors include his wife and one daughter, Doris Hunter Beaulieu of Harvest.

Pallbearers will be Leon N. Beaulieu III, Eric A. Beaulieu, Leon N. Beaulieu IV, Lamont Roby, Tyrone Williams and Bruce L. Smith.

Yulanda Michelle Morrow

Funeral for Yulanda Michelle Morrow, 31, of Decatur will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Moulton Heights Church of Christ with Harold Gilmore officiating.

Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before services.

Miss Morrow died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born June 20, 1970, in Morgan County to James Morrow and Ann Carol Batts Morrow. She was a 1991 graduate of Austin High School. She was a deboner for six years at Wayne Farms.

Survivors include her father and stepmother, James Morrow and Norma Morrow of Decatur; her stepfather and mother, Robert Watkins and Ann Carol Watkins of Decatur; two brothers, Bryon Morrow and James Morrow Jr., both of Decatur; four sisters, Angela Wray, Alicia Watkins, Sophia Morrow and Kim Lavender, all of Decatur; and her grandparents, Albert Draper and Eliza Draper of Triana and John Watkins of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Adrian Wray, DeWayne Campbell, Mario Campbell, Charles Moseley III, Brandon Batts and Edward Evans.

Earlene Maxcy Russell

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Earlene Maxcy Russell, 90, of Cullman will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Cullman with Dr. Edwin Hayes officiating and Moss Service Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in the Bounds community in Itawamba County, Miss. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Russell died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 6, 1910, in Mississippi to Grover Cleveland Maxcy and Rosa Maxcy. She was co-owner of The Place, a women's retail clothing store in Cullman, which she and two business partners operated for 20 years. They sold the store in 1985. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She attended Florence State Teachers College and taught school at Bounds Crossroads in Itawamba County during the 1930s before moving to Cullman. She was the widow of C.N. Russell.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Russell and Bob Russell, both of Hartselle; one brother, Lewis Maxcy of Mississippi; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bertha Roberts Bradford
HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Bertha Roberts Bradford, 76, of Danville was to be today at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Harold Young and the Rev. Chip Vann officiating.

Burial was to be in Friendship Cemetery. The family was to receive friends today from 2 p.m. until time for the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bradford died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born March 8, 1925, in Lawrence County to John W. Roberts and Maybeil Garrard Roberts. She was a homemaker and a member of Danville Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Eulice A. Bradford; one son, Jerald W. Bradford of Danville; two brothers, Alva Roberts of Trinity and Davis Roberts of Hartselle; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Leona V. Hodge

MOULTON -- Funeral for Leona V. Hodge, 77, of Moulton will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with Gary Carter officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hodge died today, Oct. 8, 2001, at her home. She was born Feb. 12, 1924, to Appie LouAllen and Pearlie LouAllen. She was the owner of Hodges' Grocery in Moulton for 29 years. She was the widow of Jessie Hodge. She was the sister of the late Willard LouAllen, Jones Clayton LouAllen and Mona Clezelle LouAllen.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Hodge and Vernon Hodge, both of Moulton; two daughters, Dorothy Heidt and Deborah Coan, both of Moulton; her mother of Moulton; two brothers, Ray LouAllen and Edward LouAllen, both of Moulton; three sisters, Olena Terry, Leoda Wilkerson and Madgalene Devaney, all of Moulton; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Betty Nell Howard

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Betty Nell Howard, 67, of Hanceville will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Wiggins officiating.

Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Howard died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham. She was born Aug. 30, 1934, in Cullman to Olen F. Bishop and Mary Clara Blackwood Bishop. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Thornton G. Howard.

Survivors include four sons, Steven Millard Howard of Japan, James Ferrell Howard of Sheffield, David Maurice Howard of Oakman and John Wayne Howard of Decatur; two daughters, Vicky Nell Smith of Covington, Ga., and Denise Wyers of Oakman; five brothers, Bill Bishop, Theron Bishop, John Thermon Bishop, Larry Bishop and Jerry Bishop, all of Cullman; and 16 grandchildren.

Shirley Jean Wolfe

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral for Shirley Jean Wolfe, 64, of Huntsville was to be today at 2 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with Jim Phillips officiating.

Burial was to be in Maple Hills Cemetery. The family was to receive friends from 1:30 to 2 at the funeral home.

Ms. Wolfe died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville. She was born July 2, 1937, in Hartselle to Webster Hicks and Ida Bell Hicks. She was director of the Department of Human Resources in Madison County, where she worked for 26 years.

Survivors include one brother, Robert Wayne Hicks of Hartselle; and one sister, Teresa Young of Hartselle.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Margaret Cutcliff Arnold
BIRMINGHAM -- A funeral mass for Margaret Cutcliff Arnold will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel with the Rev. Pat O'Donahue officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for one hour before the service.

Mrs. Arnold died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, in Huntsville. She was born in Bessemer to John Joseph Cutcliff and Mary Elizabeth Miller Cutcliff. She was a retired registered nurse and a graduate of St. Vincent's School of Nursing. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Huntsville. She was a resident of Fairfield before moving to Huntsville and the widow of Paul Carter Arnold.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty Rhodes and Linda Barker, both of Huntsville, Paula Linder of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Debra Sarrels of Decatur; two brothers, William Cutcliff of Pennsylvania and James Cutcliff of Florida; two sisters, Sister Mary Frances Cutcliff of Mobile and Frances Miller of Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Gerald Lee Bush

Memorial service for Gerald Lee Bush, 67, of Decatur was Sunday at Rose- lawn Funeral Home.

Mr. Bush died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Oct. 29, 1933, in Crystal Springs, Miss., to Ed and Ruby Bush. He was a graduate of Crystal Springs High School and attended the University of Mississippi and Memphis State University, where he was captain of the football team. He was retired from Sears.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Bush; three daughters, Geri Elliott of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Jill Weaver and Jennifer Long, both of Decatur; his parents of Crystal Springs; one sister, Gail Hegwood of Loranger, La; one brother, Roger Bush of Crystal Springs; and three granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.

Dorothy Powell Coleman

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Dorothy Mae Powell Coleman, 74, of Pulaski, Tenn., will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Black officiating.

Burial will be in Salem Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.

Ms. Coleman died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at National Health Care Nursing Home in Pulaski. She was born March 23, 1927, in Morgan County to Ed Powell and Viola Foote Powell.

She was a retired nurse and member of Salem United Methodist Church. She was the sister of the late Sue Powell and Jo Powell.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie Burnett of Moulton and Johnny Burnett of Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Jamilla Kay Payne of Decatur; three sisters, Geraldine Hill, Maxine Curtis and Jimmie Ruth Hill, all of Hartselle; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jonas Thomas, Erick Payne, David Thomas, David Curtis, Joe Curtis and Charlie DeButy.

Betty Nell Howard

CULLMAN -- Funeral for Betty Nell Howard, 67, of Hanceville was to be today at 2 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Wiggins officiating.

Burial was to be in Ebenezer Cemetery.

George W. Owen Jr.

Funeral for George W. Owen Jr., 79, of Decatur will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Davis officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Owen died Monday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 28, 1922, in Limestone County to George W. Owen and Florence Woodard Owen. A World War II veteran and retired Monsanto (Solutia) environmental engineer, he was a member of Round Island Baptist Church.

Survivors include one brother, John A. Owen of Davidson, N.C.; and two sisters, Blanche Owen Looney of Athens and Ruth O. Standridge of Decatur.

Amy Lee Speake Ratliff

Graveside service for Amy Lee Speake Ratliff of Daphne, formerly of Decatur, will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Bill G. Wright officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday at 11 at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ratliff died at home Saturday, Oct. 7, 2001. She was born in Decatur. She graduated from Albany High School in 1925. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the church circle, garden club and bridge club. She lived in Decatur until 1997, when she moved to Daphne. She was the widow of James B. Ratliff.

Survivors include two sons, James W. Ratliff and Edward L. Ratliff, both of Daphne; and three grandsons.

Donations may be made to Ecumenical Ministries, 564 Fairhope Ave., Fairhope, AL 36532, or to Central United Methodist Church, 616 Jackson St. S.E., Decatur, AL 35601.
