J.B. Chambers

CULLMAN -- Funeral for J.B. Chambers, 79, of Eva was to be today at 2 p.m. at Center Grove Baptist Church with James Robertson and Harvell Smith officiating.

Burial was to be in the adjoining cemetery with Cullman Heritage Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Chambers died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 3, 1922, to Horace Greeley Chambers and Minnie Aldridge Chambers. He was a Baptist preacher and a retired Metco Industries employee. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 854 in Simcoe, a 32nd degree Mason and past chaplain and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was the father of the late Kim Chambers.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Speegle Chambers; five sons, Travis Chambers of Arab, and Coyse Chambers, Carlos Chambers, Vent Chambers and Kent Chambers, all of Eva; two daughters, Brenda Chambers and Linda Spratlin, both of Eva; four stepsons, Ron Casey, Don Casey and Bill Casey, all of Decatur, and Ken Casey of Madison; two brothers, Bud Chambers of Eva and Ottis Chambers of Cullman; seven sisters, Dena Ashabraner of Arkansas, Edna Steinecipher of Morgan County, and Hazel Suites, Evelyn Banks, Dovie Philpot, Faye Grimmett and Virginia Johnson, all of Cullman; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Members of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Lodge No. 854 were to be pallbearers.

Carlotta Ward Connor

CHADBOURN, N.C. -- Funeral for Carlotta Ward Connor, 75, of Apex, N.C., formerly of Decatur, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Worthington Funeral Home.

Burial will be in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Whiteville, N.C. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Connor died at home Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001. She was born Dec. 29, 1925, in Whiteville. She lived in Sarasota, Fla., and Decatur before moving to Apex. She worked at Gibson Discount Center in Decatur for about 10 years. She was the widow of J.M. Connor and daughter of the late Gertrude Horne Ward and Brice C. Ward.

Survivors include three daughters, Jo Anne Tucker of Apex, Kay Sellers of Whiteville and Sherry Hunt of Columbia, S.C.; one sister, Lila Faye Frieda of Sarasota; two brothers, Carl H. Ward and Clayton R. Ward, both of Whiteville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Wake County Hospice, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, N.C. 27605.

Wesley Woodrow 'W.W.' Garmany

Funeral for Wesley Woodrow "W.W." Garmany, 85, of Decatur will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home in Centre with the Rev. Phillip Sessions and the Rev. David Thompson officiating.

Burial will be in Unity Cemetery with the Marine Corps Honor Guard playing "Taps." The family will receive friends at Perry Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The family will also receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Shelton Funeral Home.

Mr. Garmany died on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 31, 1916, in Georgia to Wesley Garmany and Roxie Lemon Garmany. He was the widower of Cora Annis Garmany.

Survivors include four sons, Wesley Garmany of Danville, Gary Garmany of Decatur, and Donald Garmany and Gerald Garmany, both of Lafayette, Ga.; two daughters, Gloria Craig of Raleigh, N.C., and Betty Lowrance of Trion, Ga.; 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Garmany, Greg Garmany, Jason Craig, Mark Craig, Doyle Garmany and Brandon Garmany.

Knox Alan McRae

HOOVER -- Funeral for Knox Alan McRae, 35, of Birmingham will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Savage officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. McRae died at home Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001. He was born April 20, 1966, in Alabama. He was a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church and a truck driver for Associated Grocers of the South.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Puckett; his parents, Larry and Judy McRae of Pelham; and one sister, Emily Heisler of Helena.

Memorials may be made to Riverchase United Methodist Church, 1953 Old Highway 31, Hoover, AL 35244.

Verna Vester Miller

Funeral for Verna Vester Miller, 93, of Somerville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Canaan Baptist Church with Roselawn Funeral Home directing and the Rev. Ben Styles officiating.

Burial will be in New Canaan Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Miller died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at her residence. She was born June 12, 1908, in Alabama to Felix Campbell and Ila Dunaway Campbell. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Pruitt Miller of Somerville and Gary Miller of Decatur; two daughters, Helen Higdon of Decatur and Elaine Cobble of Millington, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

Emma Lou Owens

Funeral for Emma Lou Owens, 87, of Moulton will be Saturday at noon at Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. H.N. Snodgrass officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

The body will be at the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens.

Ms. Owens died Tuesday at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Lawrence County on Sept. 18, 1914, to Simon Owens and Minnie Gibson Owens. She was a member of Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church and served in the Missionary Society.

Survivors include one brother, Verble Owens of Nashville; and two sisters, Willie M. Phelps of Earlington, Ky., and Lila Mae McDaniel of Moulton.

Pallbearers will be Alf Owens Jr., James Sharpley, Patrick Sharpley, Edward Sharpley, Joseph Warren and Harold Warren.

Addie Mae Siniard

ATHENS -- Funeral for Addie Mae Siniard, 37, of Athens was to be today at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with the Rev. Derrill Robertson officiating.

Burial was to be in Legg Cemetery.

Mrs. Siniard died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, in Limestone County. She was born May 16, 1964, in Limestone County to George and Mary Bagsby. She worked at Travel Lodge in Athens. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Dewayne Chambers of Athens; her parents of Athens; one daughter, Angela Gulley of Athens; one son, Brandon Thomas Siniard of Athens; two sisters, Marie Kelley and Gean Gordon, both of Athens; her grandparents, Addie Prestridge and John Nolan Coffman, both of Athens.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Scarbrough, Brad Kelley, Vernon Haggermaker, Mickey Grisham, Henry Bagsby and Leslie Bagsby.

Codelle Malone Young

RUSSELLVILLE -- Funeral for Codelle Malone Young, 82, of Mount Hope was to be today at 11 a.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home with Bob Carter and Clint Busler officiating.

Burial was to be in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.

Mrs. Young died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Russellville Hospital. She was born April 27, 1919, in Winston County, and lived in Russellville for more than 50 years, where she was a member of First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Young moved to Mount Hope five years ago. She was retired as a secretary from the Franklin County Board of Education after working more than 30 years.

Survivors include her husband, Bluit Edward Young; two stepsons, Tom Young of Johnson City, Tenn., and Bob Young of Tampa, Fla.; one foster daughter, Mary Rickard of Birmingham; one brother, Jack N. Roby Sr. of Haleyville; and three step grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bill Lucas, Billy Sturdivant, Whitt Roby, Jack Roby III, Allen Pickens, Jim Carr, Riley Roby and Fay Boyd.

Helen Anderson
ATHENS -- Funeral for Helen Anderson, 61, of Athens will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Word of Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Willioe James Mangrum officiating and Peoples Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be at Athens Burial Poplar Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Anderson died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, Limestone County. She was born Nov. 23, 1939, in Limestone County. She was the widow of Willie Anderson.

Survivors include four sons, Larry Malone, Anthony Anderson and Lamar Anderson, all of Athens, and Terry Anderson of Elkmont; three daughters, Angela Scruggs of Louisville and Eva Malone and Tabitha Cain, both of Athens; and her mother, Ruby Bartlett of Athens.

Gloria J. Brooks

ANNISTON -- Funeral for Gloria J. Brooks, 61, of Anniston will be today at noon at 17th Street Baptist Church with P.A. Satcher, the Rev. P.Q. English and James Truss officiating.

Burial will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens with Anniston Funeral Service directing. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Mrs. Brooks died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Regional Medical Center. She was born March 9, 1940, in Birmingham. She was the owner and operator of Gloria's House of Flowers and was a member of the American Association of Florists. She was a member of Thankful Baptist Church and the New Beginnings Ministry. She was the vice president of Anniston and Pell City funeral services.

Survivors include four sons, LeGene Brooks of Lubbock, Texas, and Charles Brooks, Melvin Jackson and Dariontae Brooks, all of Anniston; two daughters, Katrinia Brooks Blackwell of Atlanta and Althea Ashford of Anniston; her mother, Della Trammell of Anniston; six brothers, Eulice Fox, Ralph Fox and Willie Moore Jr., all of Cleveland, Willie Ashford of Columbus, Ga., Melvin Ashford of Atlanta and Larry Ashford of Anniston; five sisters, Joyce Fox of Cleveland, Maxine Ellison and Linda Ray, both of Decatur, Dorothy Johnson of Anniston and Karla Bush of Atlanta; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Sons and nephews will be pallbearers.

Edna Ruth Jordan

Graveside service for Edna Ruth Jordan, 95, of Madison will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Lynn Marshall officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jordan died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born Jan. 29, 1906, in Tennessee to Thomas Adcock and Elizabeth Estes Adcock. She was a member of University Drive Baptist Church in Huntsville and Decatur Baptist Church. She was the sister of the late Allen Adcock, the late Clifford Ad- cock, the late Thomas Adcock and the late Willie Adcock.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas D. Jordan of Decatur and James W. Jordan of Iuka, Miss.; three daughters, Elizabeth Pillow and Pat Patterson, both of Huntsville, and Peggy Ponzini of Madison; five sisters, Evelyn Lewis of Birmingham, Margie Martin of Courtland, and Louise Cottingham, Catherine Hames and Christine Dunn, all of Decatur; and seven grandchildren.

Helen Juanita Moss

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Helen Juanita Moss, 67, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Gatlin Cemetery.

Mrs. Moss died Friday Nov. 16, 2001, at Sunbridge Health- care of Ardmore. She was born April 20, 1934, in Limestone County to Arthur Ulrich and Ella Ulrich. She was retired from Martin Industries.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis Moss; two sons, Michael Jackson and Steve Jackson, both of Athens; one daughter, Donita Hasting of Elkmont; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Mildred Kate Holland Smith

MOULTON -- Graveside service for Mildred Kate Holland Smith, 92, of Moulton will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Moulton Memory Gardens with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Smith died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Colonial Nursing Home in Lindale, Texas. She was born Jan. 16, 1909, in Lawrence County. She was a lifelong resident of Moulton and a member of Moulton Baptist Church.

She was the widow of William Grady Smith and the sister of the late Maurice Holland, the late Thomas Holland and the late Vaughan Holland.

Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Carolyn Smith Parker of Lindale, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. W.R. Walters of Somerville and Mrs. W.A. Baber and Alberta Holland, both of Decatur; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Colonial Nursing Home Family Council, 508 Pierce St., Lindale, Texas 75771.
