Ronnie Eugene “Gene” Blair, 48, of St. Joseph, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at a local hospital. Gene was born Sept. 22, 1953, in Rock Island, Ill. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Heaton, Bowman, Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. today where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

Dr. John Burl Davis, 71, of Jesup, Ga., formerly of Donalsonville, Ga., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Wayne Memorial Hospital. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. EDT Saturday at Spring Creek Baptist Cemetery on Highway 253 in Donalsonville with the Rev. Luther Hastey officiating. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. EDT today at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.

Jack R. Swift, 80, of Springville, Ala., formerly of Gadsden, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Crestwood Cemetery Mausoleum, East Gadsden, with the Rev. Dean Bowers and Mrs. Judy Shepard, Lay minister, officiating. The family received friends from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Springville, P.O. Box 230, Springville, Ala., 35146. Ridout’s Trussville Chapel (205) 655-2173 is in charge of arrangements.

Marie Avant Cooper, 78, of 140 Parker Drive, Midland City, died late Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 21, 2002, at her home after a short illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Doug Kitts and the Rev. T.P. Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory.

Ida Rebecca Chancellor, 82, of Chancellor died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at her home in Chancellor. The funeral will be 2 p.m., today at El Bethel Baptist Church in Chancellor with the Rev. Don Tew and Dr. Don Chancellor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Chancellor will be taken to the church one hour before funeral time.

Jessica Lynn Recznik, infant, of Daleville went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, Aug. 21, 2002, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Funeral arrangements may be obtained by calling Searcy Funeral Home.

Annie L. Strickland, 103, formerly of Ashford, and a resident of Washington County Convalescent Center in Chipley, Fla., died there Thursday morning, Aug. 22, 2002. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Byrd Funeral Home with the Rev. David Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in Howard Grove Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday.

Elizabeth Nell Beasley Loftin, 76, of Dothan died Tuesday night, Aug. 20, 2002, at Westside Terrace. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. today at Memory Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Randall Johnson officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, P. O. Box 2127, Dothan, Ala., 36302.

Larry Lee LeFever, 62, of Midland City, and formerly of Churubusco, Ind., died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center following a long illness. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Byrd Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. James Dalton Cotton, 60, of Stephens Perry Road, Samson, (Goathill community) died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mims Hill Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Keith Chamblee and the Rev. Danny Burns officiating. Burial will follow in the McDuffie family cemetery in Geneva County with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour before service time. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Rex A. Morrow of Tahlequah, Okla., formerly of Geneva, died Monday morning, Aug. 19, 2002, in Tahlequah after a brief illness. Information may be obtained by calling Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva at 684-9999.

Mrs. Lena K. Thompson, 83, of The Woodlands, Texas, formerly of Dothan, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ward-Wilson Memory Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Sam Braswell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6267, Dothan, Ala., 36302, or to the Building Fund for Crossroads Baptist Church, 6565 Research Forest Drive, The Woodlands, Texas, 77381.

Cassie Marie Henderson Anderson, a resident of Billy Snell Road in Dothan, formerly of Auburndale, Fla., died early Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at her sister’s residence following a brief illness. She was 81. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Ward-Wilson Memory Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Littlefield officiating. Final services will be held Monday in Auburndale, Fla. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, Ala., 36302.

Mrs. Mary Dean of Stephens Road in Slocomb passed away Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan. She was 80. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Fla., (850) 263-6834.

Marcus Caleb Devine, age 6 months, infant son of Danny Wayne and Kellie Dawn Devine died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Flowers Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. today at New Covenant Church in Newton with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.

Mr. Jeffery Hugh Dollar of Cordele, Ga., died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at his home. He was 31. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Campbellton Cemetery in Campbellton, Fla., with the Rev. Wallace Russell officiating and Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence of Alfred and Frances Dollar, 1800 State Road 95, in Gordon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Jeffery Dollar Fund, at Regions Bank, 3201 Ross Clark Circle in Dothan.

David Michael Graverson of Florida, formerly of Dothan, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, in Florida from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Southern Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, 702-1712, is in charge of arrangements.

Eloise Stovall Grimsley, a former resident of Haleburg, departed this life peacefully Thursday morning, Nov. 21, 2002, in West Palm Beach, Fla. She was 88. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at Oakey Grove Methodist Church in Haleburg with the Rev. Carnell Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Levite Funeral Home directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour before services.

Blanche (Boyett) Hayes, a resident of Wesley Manor, died there Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, after an extended illness. She was 99. Graveside services were held 11 a.m. Friday at Memory Hill Cemetery with Dr. Lawson Bryan officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Joe Hayes Memorial Fund for Bibles and Hymnals, c/o First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, Ala., 36303.

Ricky Helms of Geneva died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 54. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Geneva with the Rev. John Chance and the Rev. Danny Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Home Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Thurston with Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Ruby Viola Riddle Holladay, a resident of Westbrook Assisted Living died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, in Wiregrass Medical Center following an extended illness. She was 82. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at St. Simons on the Sound, 28 Miracle Strip Parkway, Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. Memorial arrangements are being handled by Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva.

Robert Bruce Jerkins of Geneva died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in Doctors Memorial Hospital, Bonifay, Fla. He was 75. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home with Dr. Gene May officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.

Mr. James Daniel (Danny) Maddox of Daleville died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2002, in Flowers Hospital. He was 67. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Daleville Baptist Church with the Rev. James Kilpatrick officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Collie Graham McKnight, 89, of Midland City died Friday morning, Nov. 29, 2002, at his residence following the death of his beloved wife of 69 years, Erma McKnight who died last week on November 21. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Assembly of God in Newton with the Rev. Andy Wood and the Rev. Frank Standifer officiating. Burial will follow in Newton City Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to First Assembly of God in Newton or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6267, Dothan, Ala., 36302.

Mrs. Johnnie Mae McLeod died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. She was 75. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Skipperville with the Rev. T.E. Crossley officiating and the Rev. Perkins pastor. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Trawick Funeral Home directing. Trawick Funeral Home of Ozark, 774-8374, is in charge of arrangements.

Frankie Jewel Miller of Sue Ellen Court in Headland died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 63. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Bell View Baptist Church in Shorterville with the Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Headland Peoples Funeral Home directing.

Opal Hicks Nelson of Headland Avenue died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Flowers Hospital following a brief illness. She was 81. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lester Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Milhous Memorial Fund, 134 High St., Montgomery, Ala., 36104; or First Presbyterian Church, 3012 West Main St., Dothan, Ala., 36305.

Mr. Allen Pearce of Dothan departed this life Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan after a long illness. He was 47. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at Kingdom Hall in Dothan with Elder Stanley Glover officiating. Burial will be at Little Rocky Mount Church in Tumbleton with Levite Funeral Home directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour before services.

Mrs. Frances McCollough Sphaler, a resident of Kissimmee, Fla., formerly of Elba, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in Kissimmee. She was 85. Graveside funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Pleasant Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in the Victoria community with the Rev. Billy Paul McCollough officiating and Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home directing.

Emma Mae Whatley Starling, a resident of Southdale Apartments in Abbeville, died early Thursday afternoon, Nov. 28, 2002, in a Dothan hospital after an extended illness. She was 87. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Minister Bob Blalock and the Rev. John W. Helton Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Holman-Abbeville Mortuary directing.

Mr. David Michael Tarter of Birmingham, formerly of Ozark, died Friday morning, Nov. 29, 2002, at his home in Birmingham. He was 55. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later through Holman Funeral Home of Ozark, 774-5348.

Mr. Lonnie Walker Jr., of Graceville, Fla., passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, in Campbellton-Graceville Hospital. He was 65. He was a native of Alabama but lived most of his life in Graceville and was a member of New Easter Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, (850) 263-6834.

Jennifer Atwell, loving wife, mother, and friend passed into eternity to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, after a brief illness. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Southside Baptist Church in Ozark with the Revs. W.L. Sheffield and John Clark officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Mrs. Atwell will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Jennifer was an attorney in Dothan in partnership with Matt Lamere, who was also her close friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but her parting will leave us all with fond memories of an energetic, cheerful, friendly, spontaneous and loving woman who made our lives the better for having known her.

John Miller Jr., 80, Dothan, passed away at his home, Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002. The family will honor Mr. Miller with a private memorial service.

Gus Wilton Arrington, 50, Ponce DeLeon, Fla., and formerly of Enterprise, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Healthmark Hospital in DeFuniak Springs, Fla. Funeral arrangements may be obtained by calling Searcy Funeral Home.

Emma Jean Whitehead, 58, of Pearl River County, Miss., formerly of New Brockton, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in Crosby Memorial Hospital, Picayune, Miss. Funeral arrangements may be obtained by calling Searcy Funeral Home.

Mrs. Odie Ramer, 89, of Opp, (formerly from Enterprise), died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, in the Jackson County Convalescent Center. Funeral arrangements may be obtained by calling Searcy Funeral Home.

George Jackson Love, 80, of Lovetown passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at his sister's residence, Mary Mercer, 301 Paulk Road, Ashford. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Kent-Thornton Funeral Home with the Revs. Marrell Turvin and John Smith officiating. Burial will be at Howard's Grove Cemetery in Cottonwood with Kent-Thornton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of a sister, Mary and Charles Mercer, 301 Paulk Road, Ashford.

Burnice Craft Walworth, 82, of 238 Odom Road, Columbia, died late Saturday night, August 3, 2002, at her home following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 6, 2002, in the Haleburg Baptist Church with Reverend David Cook and Reverend Bobby Skipper officiating. Burial will follow in the Haleburg cemetery with Holman-Headland Mortuary directing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 207 West Adams Street, Dothan, Alabama 36303. Mrs. Walworth was born in Henry County, near Columbia, and was the daughter of the late Arthur Leonard Craft, Sr. and Mattie Calloway Craft. She was a 1941 graduate of Houston County High School in Columbia. Mrs. Walworth lived in Augusta, Georgia for thirty-two years before moving to Columbia in 1984. She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Mrs. Walworth was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Marsha Harrison Walworth; three sisters, Reba Aplin, Eunice Kirkland; Nettie Ruth Carter and two brothers, Bill Craft and J.B. Craft.

Doyle Whitehead Gray, age 65, of 286 Peterman Road, Dothan, died Monday morning, August 5, 2002, in a Dothan hospital after a short illness. Complete arrangements and survivors will be announced by Holman-Headland Mortuary.

Earle Irwin, 61, of 113 Foxhill Drive, Enterprise, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at the family residence after an extended illness. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Main Post Chapel (Fort Rucker) with Chaplain Col. Harold T. Carlson officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Meadowlawn Cemetery with Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-8 tonight. The body will be placed in the Main Post Chapel one hour before service time. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Gideons International, P.O. Jerry Lamar Farris, 54, of 6544 County Road 636, Chancellor, died early Sunday morning, Aug. 4, 2002, at the family residence after an extended illness. Graveside funeral services will be 10 a.m. today from the Meadowlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Cooley officiating and Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home directing. The family will be at the home of his father, Charles Farris, 1166 County Road 642, Chancellor (Battens Community). Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, P.O. Box 311103, Enterprise, Ala. 36331.

Charles Lanton, Jr. age 64, of 23 E. Main Street, Apartment 23, Headland, died late Saturday at Oakview Manor in Ozark. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM today, August 6, 2002 in the Southern Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Fred Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.

Jefferson Junior Cook, age 76, of Dothan, died early Sunday morning, August 4, 2002 at WestsideTerrace. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 7, 2002 in the Eastside Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM tonight at the funeral home.

Annie Mae Elmore, 91, of 1819 Saint Mary Road, Cottonwood, died Monday morning, August 5, 2002 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2002 at Hodgesville Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Gainous and Rev. John Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mrs. Elmore will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Thursday.

Timothy Palmer Crump, 55, a resident of Tuscaloosa, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Healthsouth Medical Center in Birmingham following surgery in Tuscaloosa. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia with the Rev. John Baxter officiating. Byrd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
