Reginald "Bull Moose" Sebastian Vickers

Mr. Reginald "Bull Moose" Sebastian Vickers, 44, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004. He was a native of Belleville and a resident of Brewton. He served in the U.S. Army for six years and was in the trucking business.

He is survived by a daughter, LaCasha NaSha Woods of Brewton; his mother, Mary Vickers of Brewton; three brothers, McArthur Vickers of Philadelphia, Penn., and Jackie Vickers and Larry Vickers, both of Brewton; five sisters, Dorothy Ellis of Pensacola, Fla., Quintella Wilson and Vera Bone, both of Inwood, N.Y., Albertha Ewing of Brewton and Vickey Lusk of Gulph, Penn.; one grandchild and a host of other friends and relatives.

Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 28, at 3 p.m. at Bergen Memorial Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

Joseph Moncrease

Castleberry

Mr. Joseph Moncrease, 58, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004. He was a member of Second Marietta Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Alice Moncrease; two sons, Fred Jenkins and Willie Jenkins, both of Castleberry; four sisters, Ella Gore of Supply, N.C., Jewel Moncrease and Margaret Gladstoned, both of New Haven, Conn., and Gloria Thompson of West Haven, Conn.; five brothers, John Moncrease Jr. of Brewton, James Moncrease and Douglas Moncrease, both of New Haven, Conn., Richard Moncrease of North Carolina and Michael Moncrease of Bridgeport, Conn.; his mother-in-law, Ida Jenkins of Castleberry; a grandson and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 27, at 2:30 p.m. at Presley-Fluker Funeral Chapel in Evergreen with the Rev. J.O. Meeks officiating. Burial followed at Second Marietta Cemetery in Castleberry with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

Eva Mae Salter

Evergreen

Mrs. Eva Mae Salter, 85, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, in a Pensacola, Fla. hospital. She was a native of Conecuh County and a homemaker.

She is survived by a son, James Salter of Evergreen; four brothers, John J. Smith and Evert Smith, both of Houston, Texas and L.J. Smith and Houston Smith, both of Milton, Fla.; two sisters, Mary King and Lonnie Lou Collingsworth, both of Baker, Fla.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 28, at 2 p.m. at Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen with the Rev. Danny Sherr, the Rev. Thomas Smith and the Rev. Bill Scruggs officiating. Burial followed at Hamden Ridge Cemetery with Cope Funeral Home directing.

Stanford Lee Broughton

Chicago, Ill.

Mr. Stanford Lee Broughton, 68, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2004, at his residence in Chicago. He was a native of Brewton and had resided in Chicago since 1966. He was employed with American Can Company and retired from Hi-Cone ITW in 1997. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Crenshaw; his daughter, Sheila Ward; his brothers, James, Bernard and Larry Broughton and his sister, Christina.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Broughton of Chicago; his three children Linda, Ronald and Karla; four sisters, Pauline, Maneriva, Josephine and Hattie; three brothers, Ed, Edward and Eric; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 20, at noon at West 95th Oakdale M.B. Church with Pastor Thomas E. Hardaway officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery with W. Jones-O'Bee Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Rosemary Washington

Brewton

Ms. Rosemary Washington, 44, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004. She was a native of Pensacola, Fla., a member of Second Saint Siloam Baptist Church and was employed at Brewton Country Club as a cook. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Vincent Washington; her parents, Frank and Clara Washington; an aunt, Mary Lovelace Brooks; a sister, Amy Lou Colemam; and brothers, Robert Young and Jerome McCants.

She is survived by a daughter, Clara Washington of Huntsville; three sons, Ronald Washington of Huntsville; Donald Washington of Elmore and Ricky Washington of Coatesville, Penn.; one sister, Florence Baldwin of Brewton; two brothers, Frank Washington of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Rodrice McLemore of Brewton; eight grandchildren and many other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Siloam Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Blue officiating. Burial followed in Baptist Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

Willie Belle Ball Thomas

Brewton

Mrs. Willie Belle Ball Thomas, 89, of the Roberts community, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in a local hospital after an extended illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Escambia County. She was a member of Elim Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Claude C. Thomas of Roberts; a daughter, Patsy Williamson of Brewton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. at Elim Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold McGraw and the Rev. Sonny Willingham officiating. Burial followed at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Jana Diane Gillis Lambert

Brewton

Mrs. Jana Diane Gillis Lambert, 43, of Damascus Road, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, after a brief illness. She was a native of Albertville and a former resident of Andalusia before moving to Damascus in 1990. She was a LPN and attended the Damascus Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by a sister, Debbie Gillis Mayberry of Montgomery; a brother, Jimmy Gillis of Andalusia; her mother-in-law, Betty Lambert of Brewton; Pap, Cleavie Dubose and several other relatives.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Hudson and the Rev. Tim Floyd officiating. Burial followed at Damascus Cemetery at Douglas Chapel Church with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Margaret Estelle Lanier Findley

Brewton

Mrs. Margaret Estelle Lanier Findley, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in a local nursing facility after an extended illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Damascus. She was a member of Damascus Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Russell Findley of Brewton and George Findley of Georgiana; one daughter, Janet Cunningham of Brewton; a brother, Johnie J. Lanier of Birmingham; a sister, Mary Idelle Lowery of Brewton; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at Damascus Baptist Church with the Rev. Bert Bounds and the Rev. Larry Beauchamp officiating. Burial followed at Damascus Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Luverne Steele Gafford

Flomaton

Mrs. Luverne Steele Gafford, 74, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, in a Jay, Fla., hospital. She was a native and lifelong resident of Escambia County. She was a member of Flomaton Church of Christ and retired from Monsanto with 30 years service.

She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Earl Gafford of Colorado and Farris James Gafford of Brewton; three daughters, Anita Kelly of Flomaton, Belinda Grantham of Magnolia Springs and Patricia Dyal of Atmore; three sisters, Mae Eula McDonald of Brewton, Roberta Bryant of Pensacola and Dorothy Howell of Milton; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Funeral Home with Minister Pete Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

James Edward Allen

Brewton

Mr. James Edward Allen, 75, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004. He was a member of Little Brooklyn Baptist Church and a veteran. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin, Nathaniel, and Donald Allen and two sisters, Lillie and Hannah.

He is survived by a daughter, Beatrice Dewberry of Detroit, Mich., a brother, Roshell Allen of Mansfield, Ohio; seven sisters, Essie Robinson, Jennie Grice and Annie King, all of Pensacola, Fla., and Mary Emma Spears, Carolyn Samuel, Elouise Square and Mary Nearer, all of Brewton; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m. at Little Brooklyn Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Gray officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

Jesse Edward Peters

Conecuh County

Mr. Jesse Edward Peters, 40, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004. He was a native of Castleberry and attended school in Conecuh County. He was employed at T.R. Miller Lumber Mill for a number of years and a member of Hamden Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his mother, Annie L. Peters; his ex-wife, Mary Janice Peters; five children, Lisa, Cynthia, Dedric, Alphonso and Lashea; one sister and seven brothers, Shirley Crenshaw and Sammy Peters, both of Castleberry, Sylvester Peters and Joseph Peters, both of Decatur, Ga., William Peters and Jimmy Peters of Jacksonville, Fla., Marvin Peters of Hampton, Va, and Fred Peters and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m. at Hamden Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Moses Stallworth officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Presley-Fluker directing.

Romain Bradley Benjamin

Brewton

Mrs. Romain Bradley Benjamin, 81, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004. She was a member of Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church and was very active in Peace and Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church in Brewton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Simmie Benjamin and a son Elmore, three brothers and one sister.

She is survived by seven daughters, Goldia Alexander-Brown, Johnnie Walton, Tina Fraser and Cynthia Benjamin, all of Brewton; Inez Benjamin of Columbia, S.C., Hazel Williams and Mattie Mobley of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a son, Randall Benjamin of Atmore; three sisters, Jannie Avant of Brewton and Luevirna Murphy and Mattie Maddox of Detroit, Mich.; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and a host of other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dillen Odom officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

Marion "Harold" Whitman Sr.

Milton, Fla.

Mr. Marion "Harold" Whitman Sr., 65, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at his residence in Milton. He was a native of East Brewton and retired from Champion Papers in Courtland where he had been employed for more than 26 years.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara; two sons, Hal Whitman of Brewton and Allen Whitman of Jay, Fla.; a daughter, Deborah Turner of Rogersville, Ala.; a brother, William Whitman of Brewton; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Cremation arrangements were handled by Oak Lawn Funeral Home.
