Alabama, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1805-1967 - 1814-1935

Blashka

Arlyle Blashka, 86, of Albertville, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005.

Services are today, Thursday, Sept. 1, at 11 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church with the Rev. J. Mark Kuehnert officiating. Burial will be at Crestview Cemetery with Albertville Funeral Home directing.

She was a homemaker and loved to crochet and knit. She was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Susan Markgraf of Wisconsin, and Steven and Lori Deis of Ft. Payne; daughters and son-in-law, Janice and Dean Gohn of Guntersville, and Karen Green of Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Blashka; son, Charles Markgraf; a sister; and two brothers.

Burgett

Ted Lee Burgett, 93, of Douglas, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at his residence.

Services were Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Boaz Carr Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Smith officiating. Burial followed at Concord Cemetery in Douglas.

Survivors include a niece and her husband, Betty Burgett and Leamon Buchanan of Albertville.

He was a row crop farmer and never married. He was a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were Bud Burgett, Paul Brothers, Bobby Brannon, Phillip Nash, David Collins, and Billy Lyle.

Honorary pallbearers were Leamon Buchanan, Dr. Angela Clifton, Hospice of Marshall County; Kim, Patsy and Lisa Brannon, Bobby Goss, and Louis Burgett.

Chaffin

Nina Lee Hill Chaffin, 96, of Albertville, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at Albertville Nursing Home.

Services are today, Thursday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m., at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Morris Stephens and Bob Pruitt officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Adams Brown Service Funeral Home will direct.

Survivors include her grandsons and wives, Michael Chaffin of Albertville, Jeff and Susan Chaffin and Mark and Susan Chaffin, all of Chattanooga, Tenn.; granddaughter and husband, Lisa C. and Gary Eaves of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Chaffin; and two brothers, Donald W. and Robert L. Chaffin.

Fowler

Lillian JoAnn Fowler, 57, of Mt. Vernon Homes in Boaz, formerly of Douglas, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at her residence.

Services will be today, Thursday, Sept. 1, at 2 p.m., at Concord Baptist Church with the Rev. Lonnie Jones officiating. Burial will be at High Mound Cemetery. McRae Funeral Home in Boaz will direct.

Born Feb. 9, 1948 in Alabama to Dan and Lillian Buckelew Miller, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Julie Fowler of Albertville; daughters and sons-in-law, Shelley and Ricky Smith and Susan and J. T. Spann, all of Boaz; four grandchildren; sisters, Denese Prickett of Douglas, and Jeanette Rodgers of Grant.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Robert Fowler.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Johnson, Keith Johnson, Don Gober, Darrell Nicholson, Patrick Williams, and Shannon Allen.

Harraid

Mary Sue Harraid, 74, of Albertville, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Marshall Medical Center North.

Services were Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Adams Brown Service Chapel with the Revs. A. D. Stephens and Kenny Sawyers officiating. Burial followed at Liberty Cemetery in Aroney.

Survivors include a son, Macky Harraid of Albertville; daughters, Rebecca Ann Harraid and Carolyn Sue Fields, both of Albertville; sister, Nell Hard of Albertville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Hudgins

Tommy Ray Hudgins, 50, of Guntersville, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005.

Services were Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Albertville Funeral Home with burial in Weaver Cemetery in Guntersville. The Rev. Casey Smith officiated.

A huge Alabama football fan, he worked for Mueller as a machine operator for 28 years and continued to work on cars and do yard work. He attended the Boaz Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Hudgins of Guntersville; daughter, Kristy Hudgins of Guntersville; brothers, David Hudgins of Huntsville, and Jerry Hudgins of Albertville.

Ballew

Dura Lee Jordan Ballew, 84, of Albertville, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005.

Services were Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Willis Kelly officiating. Burial followed at Marshall Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Terrell Keith and Ann Jordan; sister, Eva Carter; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Albert Jordan and Floy Ballew; mother, Elena Eve Baggett Gibbs; father, Cass General Harrison Gibbs.

Pallbearers were Steve Baird, Robert Patterson, John Broom, Gary Redman, Casey Jordan, and Joel Jordan.

Hayes

Jewell Lois Hayes, 90, of Boaz, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at Albertville Nursing Home.

Services were Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Boaz Carr Funeral Home with the Revs. Wallace Hayes and Alan Crider officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Horton.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Margaret Hayes of Guntersville; daughter, Karene Brooks of Ringold, Ga.; sisters, Jo Collins of Georgia, Louise Smith, Corene Veal, and Irene Frasier, all of Boaz; brothers, Carl Miller of Albertville, Bruce Miller of Boaz; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Blake Smith, Patrick Harding, Neil Brooks, Steve Drummond, Tim Isbill, and Mark Peer.

Honorary pallbearers were Brandon Brothers, Micah Smith, and Daniel Brooks.

Kennedy

Charles John Wayne Kennedy, 64, of Albertville, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at his home.

Services will be today, Thursday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m., at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dean Timbes officiating. Mike Faust will be the soloist. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 26, 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Adams Brown Funeral Home will direct.

Before graduating from the University of Alabama, he served three years in the Navy as a Class E-5 radio operator. A member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, he retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 35 years as an operator of the powerhouse. He was an avid fisherman and his family and friends will miss his sense of humor.

Survivors are his wife, Rebecca (Becky) Wilson Kennedy; sons and daughter-in-law, Randal Wayne and Susan Elizabeth Kennedy of Montgomery, Steven Michael Kennedy of Dallas, Tex., Charles Brandon Kennedy of Albertville, and Joseph Wiley Kennedy of Birmingham; brother and sister-in-law, Donald Neil and Josephine Kennedy of the Philippines; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Kennedy and Ed Williamson of Albertville; granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Kennedy of Montgomery.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ona Imogene Currey Kennedy; and father, Jack Kennedy.

Pallbearers will be Mike Bynum, Perry Childress, David Currey, Harry Parker, Thomas Knight, and Ed Williamson.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mount Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund or to Hospice of Marshall County.

Martin

Terry Glenn Martin, 57, died Oct. 23, 2005.

Services were Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dean Timbes officiating. Burial followed in Memory Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Vivian Martin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan Martin and Tim Wheeles, Sharon Martin and Paul Mullinax; one niece; and three nephews.

Pallbearers were Chad Wheeles, Justin Mullinax, Andy Martin, Hugh Carter, and Paul Lacy.

Pruitt

Mildred Eliza Pruitt, 89, of Boaz, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005.

Services were Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Adams Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Fred Gray and Jeff Stanford officiating. Burial followed in Macedonia No. 1 Cemetery, in Geraldine.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Doris Pruitt of Boaz; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Billy Walden of Albertville, Glenda and Jerry Walden of Douglasville, Ga.; sister, Marjorie McEntire of Ocala, Fla.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Pruitt; mother, Emma Croft Morton; father, Walter Ellis Morton; and brother, Sibert Morton.

Pallbearers were Larry Walden, Ed Sims, Eric Sims, James Vaughn, Mike Dodd, Jacob Dodd, Tommy Hedgecoth, and Timmy Hedgecoth.

Honorary pallbearers were Arnold Morgan, Tommy Walden and Ed Denson.

Shirley

Joe B. Shirley, 82, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, in Gadsden.

Services will be today, Thursday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m., at Collier-Butler Chapel in Gadsden. The Rev. Bryan Blass will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery in DeKalb County.

Born in DeKalb County, he was the son of the late Charles Ross Shirley and Nellie Elrod Shirley. He received degrees from Jacksonville State University, The University of Alabama, and UAB in Birmingham. He was a four-year veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He began his career in education in 1948 when he served as principal at Gulfsteel Junior High School, Litchfield Junior High School, Striplin Elementary School and became Director of Instruction with the Board of Education for five years before retiring in 1979. He was instrumental in establishing the Teachers Credit Union.

Survivors include a brother, Neal Shirley; sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy Walden, Jimmie Nell Bailey, Patricia and Randall Morrison, and Brenda Browning; many nieces and nephews; and special friends.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Stiplin School Library, Walnut Park Library, or to First Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be his nephews and John McKee.

Shook

Ray Samuel Shook, 82, of Albertville, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005.

Services will be today, Thursday, Oct. 27, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel, at 11 a.m. The Revs. Dean Timbes and Al Bailey will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Ensley, Ala.

A World War II veteran, he served in the U. S. Navy and Merchant Marines. He retired from U. S. Steel after 45 years and was one of the Hardee’s boys. He loved gardening and giving away his vegetables and will be missed by many.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Wallace Shook of Albertville; daughters and sons-in-law, Cleta and Mike O’Steen of McCalla, Linda and Arthur Wagner of Cullman, Sandra and Michael Hood of Hueytown; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Laurie Shook of Hoover, Joe and Jo Ellen Shook of Springville; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nallie Rayder Shook and father, Walter Charlie Shook.

Pallbearers will be Kent Hood, Billy Hood, Mark Mosley, Brian Frost, James Barden, Johnny Brock, Tony Rosetta, and Justin Green wood.
