Mrs. Maudie B. Ball, 91, of Dutton died Friday, May 5, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital.

Services were held Monday, May 8, from the Section Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles Harding officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant View Cemetery with Section Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: three daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Dewey Holt, Margaret and Austus Wilks and Carolyn and Tommy Holt, all of Dutton; sister, Lula Talley of Bryant; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by her husband, T.S. Ball; a daughter, Jewell Day; and a son-in-law, William Day.

Bell

Miss Estoria Bell, 90, of Fort Payne died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at Crowne Health Care.

Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 25, from the Rainsville Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Cates Noles and Jamey O’Connor officiating. Burial followed in the Robertson’s Chapel Cemetery with Rainsville Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: brother and sister-in-law, Erbon and Inez Bell of Powell; eight nephews, Orville Bell Jr. of Orlando, Fla., Bob Bailey of Rainsville, Junior A. Bailey of Canton, Mich., Danny Bell of Fyffe, Randy Smith of Oakwood, Ga., Gary Bell of Naverre, Fla., Kerry Bell of Fort Payne and Mike Bell of Foley; three nieces, Marsha Jones of Section, Delinda Chandler of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., and Deb O’Connor of Fort Payne; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Barkley

Mrs. Rosalie Barkley, 80, of Henagar died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at her residence.

Memorial services were held Thursday, Jan. 5, from the Corner Stone Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Ledwell officiating.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Martha Barkley of Henagar; five sisters, Jo Nell Scott, Pauline Ledwell, Lela Mae Coots and Billy Phillips, all of Fort Payne, and Inez Headrick of Bridgeport; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Austin

Mrs. Irene Austin, 85, of Flat Rock died Monday, March 27, 2006, in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Services will be held Thursday, March 30, at 2 p.m. from the Kerby Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in the Flat Rock Cemetery with Kerby Funeral Home of Henagar directing.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Herb Harris of Trenton, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Julian and Janice Austin of Dade City, Fla.; brother, R.L. Brown of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister, Martha Shrader of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nancy O. Evatt

Mrs. Nancy O. Evatt, 100, of Fort Payne died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at her residence.

Services were held Friday, May 5, from the Collinsville Funeral Home-Sharpe Chapel with the Rev. Harold Eberhart officiating. Burial followed in the Walker’s Chapel Cemetery with Collinsville Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: children, Willodeen Jones, William C. Evatt, Cecil Evatt and Betty Barkley, all of Fort Payne, Velva Peek and Lona Mae Carmichael, both of Macon, Ga., Thomas C. Evatt of Virginia, Jim Evatt of Chattanooga, Tenn., Rose Parker of Shiloh, Amos C. Evatt of Hamilton and Wayne Evatt of Ooltewah, Tenn.; 43 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marge Johnson of Fort Payne and Lucille Hairston of Leesburg.

Mrs. Audie Isbell Guinn

Mrs. Audie Isbell Guinn, 77, of Fyffe died Monday, May 8, 2006, in Gadsden Regional Hospital.

Services were held Thursday, May 11, from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Revs. Gerald Ray Green , John Satterfield and Verlon Stiefel officiating. Burial followed in the Green ’s Chapel Cemetery with W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel of Rainsville directing.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Richard West of Hokes Bluff; sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Kathy Guinn and Jimmy and Lisa Guinn, all of Fyffe; chosen son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Dana Isbell of Fort Payne; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Holland

Mr. Paul Lewis Holland, 48, of Fort Payne died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Ashville Health Care.

Services were held Friday, Dec. 30, from the W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Dan Kirkpatrick and Don Burgess officiating. Burial followed in the Trinity Cemetery with W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel of Rainsville directing.

Survivors include: son, John Holland of Crossville; mother, Montez Holland of Fort Payne; sister, Christine Fulton of Rainsville; half sisters, Evelyn Richey of Georgia and Martha Massey of Ohio; and one grandson.

Mr. Holland was preceded in death by his father, Tommy L. Holland.

Mr. Clarence "Junior" Hawkins

Mr. Clarence “Junior” Hawkins, 73, of Tarrant, formerly of Henagar, died Sunday, May 7, 2006, in Medical Center East Hospital.

Services were held Tuesday, May 9, from the W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel with Brother Shirley Byrum officiating. Burial followed in the New Home Cemetery with W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel of Rainsville directing.

Survivors include: wife, Lois Hawkins of Tarrant; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Susan Hawkins of Henagar; daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia and Willie O’Linger of Henagar, Marilyn and Donnie Wagner of Valley Head, Loretta and Billy Williams of Birmingham and Christy and Ray Tinker of Flat Rock; sisters, Geraldine Hasting of Flat Rock, Rita Patterson of Henagar, Carolyn Maxwell of Bryson City, N.C., Margaret Dobbs of Section and Judy Long of Springville; brother, Wayne Hawkins of Henagar; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his parents, Tott and Bonnie Ruth Hawkins; mother of his children, Frances I. Hawkins; and a son, Stanley Hawkins.

Artwick

Mr. Kert Edward Artwick, 63, of Fort Payne died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at Baptist DeKalb hospital.

Remembrance services were held Monday, Jan. 23, from the Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Fort Payne.

Survivors include: wife, Judy L. Artwick; two sons, Michael S. Artwick and Brian D. Artwick; daughter-in-law, Elena N. Artwick; and brother, Frederic Artwick.

Bouldin

Mrs. Eva Martha Bouldin, 89, of Fort Payne died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at Marshall Medical Center South.

Mr. Johnny Stakely Moses

Mr. Johnny Stakely Moses, 70, of Pisgah died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Highland Memorial Hospital in Scottsboro.

Services were held Friday, May 5, from the Kerby Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Bud Durham and Ronnie Day officiating. Burial followed in the New Home Cemetery at Pisgah with Kerby Funeral Home of Henagar directing.

Survivors include: wife, Bernice Russell Moses of Pisgah; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Angie Moses of Scottsboro, and David and Susanne Moses and Gary and Joyce Moses, all of Pisgah; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane Rice, Brenda and Terry Brown, Faye and Dwight Tilley and Tara Edgeworth and James Smith, all of Pisgah, and Pam and Ronnie Day of Henagar; brothers, Charlie Moses of Pisgah, Sidney Moses of Rossville, Ga., Remer Moses of Chickamauga, Ga., and T.W. Moses of Henagar; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Colene Goza Reed

Mrs. Colene Goza Reed, 64, of Sylvania died Sunday, May 7, 2006, at DeKalb Regional Medical Center.

Services were held Tuesday, May 9, from the Rainsville Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Kevin McCreless officiating. Burial followed in the Section Methodist Church Cemetery with Rainsville Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: husband, Billy J. Reed; and brother, Kerry W. Goza.

Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her parents, Willie W. and Mavis Irene Goza.

Mr. Robert Allen Smith

Mr. Robert Allen Smith, 47, of Albertville died Monday, May 8, 2006, at his residence.

Services were held Wednesday, May 10, from the W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel. Burial followed in the Highway Church of God Cemetery with W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel of Rainsville directing.

Survivors include: two sons, Rodney A. Smith of Albertville and Bradley W. Smith of Huntsville; sister, Dana Haney of Geraldine; and granddaughter, Madison Blythe Smith.

Mrs. Gladys Inez Fox Thurman

Mrs. Gladys Inez Fox Thurman, 83, of Fort Payne died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at her residence.

Services were held Friday, May 5, from the Wilson Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Billy Hudgins and Erskine Davis officiating. Burial followed in the Glenwood Cemetery with Wilson Funeral Home of Fort Payne directing.

Survivors include: children, Buddy and LaRae Thurman, Steve Thurman, Danny and Leshia Thurman, Pam Thurman and Deborah and Gregg Tonkin, all of Fort Payne; brothers, Jim Fox of Fort Payne and Joe Fox of Berry; sisters, Ann Killian and Goldie Davis, both of Fort Payne; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Neious Swan Underwood

Mr. Neious Swan Underwood, 95, of Henagar died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at the Crossville Health and Rehab.

Services were held Friday, May 5, from the Kerby Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. David Smith and David Hairston officiating. Burial followed in the Henagar Cemetery with Kerby Funeral Home of Henagar directing.

Survivors include: wife, Lula Wilson Underwood of Henagar; sons and daughters-in-law, Ledon “Woody” and Sherry Underwood and Jerry and Priscilla Underwood, all of Henagar; daughter and son-in-law, Marion and John Wagner of Henagar; brother, Yewell Underwood of Henagar; sister, Bernice Hicks of Henagar; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Nance

Mr. Hermon Nance, 74, of Fyffe died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at his residence.

Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 4, from the Rainsville Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tony Pope officiating. Burial followed in the Kirk Memorial Gardens with Rainsville Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Paula Nance of Fyffe; two grandchildren, Justin and Brandy Byrum of Fyffe; two sisters, Lila Dean Eldridge of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Lucille Morris of Fyffe; one brother, Bro. Chester Nance of Fort Payne; and a special friend, Nancy Manning of Henagar.

Mr. Nance was preceded in death by his wife, Genilla Harcrow Nance; her parents; and a brother.

Studdard

Miss Ida Louise Studdard, 82, of Collinsville died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at Baptist DeKalb hospital.

Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 4, from the Collinsville Funeral Home-Sharpe Chapel with the Rev. Wendell Dutton officiating. Burial followed in the Longshore Cemetery with Collinsville Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Carl Norris of Collinsville; niece and her husband, Linda and Kerry Broadaway of Fort Payne; and several cousins and friends.

Akins

Mrs. Annie Marie Hardman Akins, 85, of the Blake Community died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at DeKalb Regional Medical Center.

Services were held Friday, April 14, from the Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeffery A. Adkins officiating. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery with Wilson Funeral Home of Fort Payne directing.

Survivors include: husband, Robert E. Akins of Fort Payne; daughters and sons-in-law, Madeline and Wilburn Poe, Edith and Ronald Berry and Linda Wells, all of Fort Payne; son and daughter-in-law, Edwin and Paulette Akins of Fort Payne; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Hardman of Fort Payne and Edgar Hardman of Birmingham; and two sisters, Sarah Ellis and Ruth Akins, both of Fort Payne.

Beaty

Mrs. Helen Webb Beaty, 82, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at DeKalb Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services were held Thursday, April 6, from the Fuller Cemetery at Ider with son-in-law Greg Turner officiating and Wilson Funeral Home of Fort Payne directing.

Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Thalia and Benny Freeman of Birmingham and Dawn and Greg Turner of Lynchburg, Va.; sons and daughters-in-law, Derrick and Beth Beaty of Fort Payne, Stephen and Carmen Beaty of Warner Robins, Ga., and Miles and Deborah Beaty of Chattanooga, Tenn.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother, Carroll Webb of Tallahassee, Fla.

Adrian

Ms. Tonya Adrian, 38, of Huntsville, formerly of Fort Payne, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, in Huntsville.

Services were held Saturday, Feb. 25, from the Wilson Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Bill Hudgins officiating. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery in Centre with Wilson Funeral Home of Fort Payne directing.

Survivors include: mother and stepfather, Rita and Hugh Chitwood of Fort Payne; father and stepmother, Jerry and Sandra Adrian of Fort Payne; sister and brother-in-law, Michele and Randy Wooden of Fyffe; grandmother, Bertha Adrian; one niece; and one nephew.

McNutt

Mrs. Edith McNutt, 77, of Rainsville died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at her residence.

Services were held Friday, Dec. 30, from the Rainsville Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. James Grindstaff, Chester Shankles and Wayne Young officiating. Burial followed in the Mountain View Memory Gardens with Rainsville Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Daphne and Eddie Garrett of Rainsville and Mahalah and Mike Smith of Piedmont; two sisters, Edra Reeves of Fyffe and Lee Dell O’Rourke of New York; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. McNutt was preceded in death by her husband, Louis McNutt; her parents; and three brothers.

Hicks

Mr. Lee Vernon “Bunk” Hicks, 71, of Henagar died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at his residence.

Services were held Friday, Dec. 30, from the Corner Stone Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Steve Lea and Melvin Slatton officiating. Burial followed in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery with Corner Stone Funeral Chapel of Ider directing.

Survivors include: wife, Martha Craze Hicks; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Wayne Wynn of Ider and Sharon and Tommy Lea of Henagar; daughter, Debra Terrell of Henagar; son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Lori Hicks of Henagar; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hicks was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Judith Alberta Hicks, 42, of Powell died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital.

Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. from the W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ken Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Straight Creek Cemetery with W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel of Rainsville directing.

Survivors include: husband, James Earl Hicks of Powell; son, James Brandon Hicks of Powell; three sisters, Pamela Sue Newman and Angela Nell Bell, both of Powell, and Melissa Lynn Andrews of Bridgeport; brother, Aaron Clyde Wilbourn of Powell; and one grandchild.

Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron Albert and Helen Faye Wilbourn.

Dukes

Mr. Winford Burnell Dukes, 72, of Rainsville died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital.

Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 4, from the Rainsville Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Gerald Dukes and Elaine Holmer officiating. Graveside services and burial followed in the Pine Hill Memorial Park of Talladega with Rainsville Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Teresa Dukes of Rainsville and Jeffery Dukes of Fort Payne; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jo Ann and Raymond Evans of Talladega and Lea Ann Sims of Fort Payne; one stepson, Terry Dunnaway of Talladega; six brothers, Milford Dukes, Rev. Gerald Dukes, Roger Dukes, Euvaughn Dukes and Harold Dukes, all of Rainsville, and Odell Dukes of Dogtown; one sister, Diane Shirey of Fort Payne; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
