Melvin Clenton Gardner: Graveside services for Melvin Clenton Gardner, 73, Tyrone, Ga., will be held at Midway Memorial Gardens in Jemison on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at 3 p.m., with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Gardner was born on Aug. 25, 1929, in Dale County, Ga., the son of the late Lonnie Gardner and the late Leola Evans Gardner. He was a sanitation supervisor. He died on Aug. 29, 2002, at Fayette Community Hospital in Tyrone, Ga.

Survivors include one daughter, Debra Hayes, Thorsby; one son-in-law, Bobby Hayes, Thorsby; two sons, Edward Gardner, Thorsby, Ronnie Gardner, Verbena; two daughters-in-law, Veronica Gardner, Thorsby, Judy Gardner, Verbena; three step-daughters, Shirley Day, Vicki Carson, Lynda Boone, all of Montgomery; two brothers, Millard Gardner and Jim Gardner, both of Ozark; one sister-in-law, Louise Gardner, Ozark; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Gardner, and one sister, Alice Jackson.

Alice Mary Graf: Funeral services for Alice Mary Graf, 99, Jemison, will be held at Martin Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mark Lovett officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill, Conn., with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Graf was born on October 16, 1902, in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of the late James Albert Lavery and the late Mary Josephine Lavery. She was a homemaker. She died on Sept. 4, 2002, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

Survivors include one daughter, Lucille Dorminey, Jemison; one brother, Harold Lavery, Rocky Hill, Conn.; one grandson, Donn Dorminey, Jemison; one granddaughter, Diane Dorminey Cole, Winsted, Conn.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Resurrection Catholic Church Building Fund.

Betty Ruth Peters: Funeral services for Betty Ruth Peters, 62 of Clanton, will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rusty Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton.

Visitation services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 from 6-8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Born on Dec. 31, 1939 to William Pruett Sr. and Dollie Pruett of Chilton County, she died Sept. 9, 2002 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.

Survivors include her husband Bennie H. Peters of Clanton; daughters Lisa Smith of Arlington, Texas, Terry Martin of Jemison and Brenna Culp of Clanton; son Barry Peters of Sebring, Fla.; brothers W.D. Pruett of Linesville and Donald Pruett of Smyrna, Ga; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

James Lindon Crowe: Graveside services for James Lindon Crowe, 71, Lawley, were held on Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Perry County, with Rev. Victor Foster and Rev. Wade Green e officiating, and Rockco's Funeral Home in Centreville directing.

Pallbearers included Tootle Freeman, Lynn Green e, David Green e, Clint Carlee, Matt Riff, and Gary Dale Crowe.

Crowe attended Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church. He served in the Korean War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He died on Sept. 11, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Crowe, Lawley; two sons, Mike Crowe and Greg Crowe, both of Lawley; one daughter-in-law, Gail Lawley.

Christy Ann Barrett Hodge: Funeral services for Christy Ann Barrett Hodge, 29, will be held Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 at 4 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Bennettsville, S.C. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Ave., N. Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29577.

Mrs. Hodge died Wednesday. Born in Marlboro County, S.C., she was a daughter of Garland Sether Barrett and Betty Joyce Miller Barrett. She was a shipping clerk with Stanley Tools and attended the Cheraw Church of God.

Survivors include, her husband, Jay Allen Hodge; daughters, Brittany Nicole Hayes and Heather Ann Hodge; mother Betty Joyce Miller Barrett of Bennettsville; father Garland Sether Barrett and step-mother Joyce Marie Barrett of Prattville; brother Kenneth Sether Barrett, Sr. of Prattville; sisters Debbie Barrett Freeman of Maplesville and LeCretia Rose Barrett Rogers of Katy, Texas; step-sisters Judy Carol Walker Absher, Barbara Jean Walker and Crystal Marie Walker of Prattville; 13 nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles.

Grace Wilson Patterson: Funeral services for Grace Wilson Patterson, 89 of Clanton, were held Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Larry Michael, Dr. Sid Sample and Rev. Ralph Jones officiating. Burial followed at Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton.

Born on May 15, 1913 to Willie Hubert Wilson and Isabel Wilson, she died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at her home.

Survivors include her daughters Inez Martin of Clanton, Mary Sample of Bryant, Ark., Betty Cook of Clanton and Joan Patterson of Titus; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Her husband, J. Reedie Patterson, preceded her in death.

Bobby Franklin Barnett: Funeral services for Bobby Franklin Barnett, 58 of Camp Hill, were held Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Herbert Edminston officiating. Burial followed at Chestnut Creek Baptist Cemetery.

Born on Nov. 19, 1944 to Benjamin Franklin Barnett and Irene Lois Barnett, he died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at his home.

Survivors include his daughter Shelia Barnett of Clanton; sons Greg Barnett of Birmingham, Keith Barnett of Verbena and Scott Barnett of Prattville; sisters Frances Haddcock of Marbury, Mary Shaw of Clanton and Lois Baker of Clanton and seven grandchildren.

His brother, Danny Boswell, and two sisters, Sherry Popwell and Nadine Smith, preceded him in death.

Martha Lee Bolton: Funeral services for Martha Lee Bolton, 87 of Jemison, were held Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 at Pates Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Randal Mims, Rev. Alvin Porter and Rev. Doug West officiating. Burial followed at Pates Chapel Baptist Cemetery in Jemison.

Born on Nov. 18, 1915 to Riley Columbus Hayes and Freddie Hayes, she died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include her daughter Margie L. Zieber of Jemison; sons Allen Bolton of Jemison and Marshall Bolton of Jemison; brother Richard Hayes of Jemison; sister Etta Porter of Jemison; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Richard O. Bolton, preceded her in death.

Flora B. Carpenter: Funeral services for Flora B. Carpenter, 79 of Mulga, Ala., were held Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 at Brown Service West Chapel, with Bro. Chuck Shaver officiating. Burial followed at Forest Grove Cemetery.

She was a member of Pumpkin Center Baptist Church and Lady's Auxiliary at Chilton Medical Center.

Survivors include her sons Ken (Debra) Carpenter of Quinton and Bruce (Tammy) Carpenter of Birmingham; daughters Karol (Terry) Collier of Clanton, Debbie (Ed) Bradberry of Tallahassee, Fla. and Lawana Martin of Clanton; brother Buck Powell; sister Frankie (Red) Mason and eight grandchildren.

Evelyn M. Teel: Funeral services for Evelyn M. Teel, 85 of Clanton, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Dr. Larry Michael officiating. Burial will follow at Clanton City Cemetery.

Born on May 4, 1917 to Tom McKee and Zora Bell McKee, she died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at Collegedale, Tenn.

Survivors include her husband Jackie Teel of Collegedale, Tenn.; daughter Janice T. Conerly of Collegedale, Tenn.; son Jerry B. Teel of Clanton; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Her son, Joe Teel, preceded her in death.

Jadie Cleckler: Funeral services for Jadie Cleckler, 98 of Verbena, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. with Rev. Lonnie Plunkett officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Springs Baptist Cemetery in Clanton.

Born on Aug. 7, 1904 to John H. Cleckler and Dora Bell Cleckler, he died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003 at Briarcliff Nursing Home in Alabaster.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Cleckler of Verbena; son James Junior Cleckler of Montomery; daughters Lula Bell Kelley of Clanton and Lyrmle Driver of Prattville; sister Loyce Ballard of Millbrook; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Patricia Wood Robinson: Funeral services for Patricia Wood Robinson, 65 of Florence, will be held Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. with Jimmy Robinson and Jerry Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Thorsby Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 from 5-8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Born on July 28, 1937 to Jerry Price Clemmons and Mary Melinda Clemmons, she died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003 at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.

Survivors include her daughters Sonya Robinson Sexton of Florence, Jerilyn Robinson Curry of Brewton and Melonie Robinson Handerson of Jacksonville, Fla.; granddaughters Heather Curry of Brewton and Savannah Henderson of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandsons Justin Curry of Brewton, Zackery Henderson of Jacksvonville, Fla. and Jeremy Curry of Brewton and sister Ara Nell Baggett of Florence.

Oliver C. Bice: Funeral services for Oliver C. Bice, 68 of Jemison, will be held Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with Rev. Wayne Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Midway Memorial Gardens in Jemison.

Visitation services will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 from 5-8 p.m.

Born on Aug. 12, 1934 to John Henry Bice Sr. and Annie Blanch Rice, he died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

Survivors include his son Randall (Kelly) Bice of Jemison; daughters Kathy Bice (Randall) Headley of Clanton and Lisa Bice of Jemison; grandsons Joe Bice, David Bice and Chris Loyd; granddaughter Stephanie Hughes; great-grandchildren Dusty Hughes, Bryan Hughes and Brittney Hughes; brothers J.D. Bice, G.W. Bice, Buery Bice, O'Neal Bice, Wayne Bice and Benny Bice; sisters Lorene Ellison, Aileen Collum, Rubena Cofer, Lillie Mae Porter and Leaona Wells; mother-in-law Clara Mae Lewis and a host of nieces and nephews.

Buddy Dennis: Funeral services for Buddy Dennis, 82 of Clanton, were held Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Hilyer and Rev. Jeff Hughes officiating. Burial followed at Bell Lane Baptist Cemetery.

Born on Sept. 20, 1920 to Jim Dennis and Nettie Thomas Dennis, he died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at his home in Jemison.

Survivors include his wife Bertha Dennis of Jemison; daughter Janet Smitherman of Clanton; sons Jimmy Dennis of Clanton, Roy Dennis of Clanton, Eugene Dennis of Clanton Tommy Dennis of Clanton and Kenneth Dennis of Clanton; sisters Isa Little of Clanton and Ruby Knox of Clanton; step-sons Ed Varden of Gardendale, James Varden of Gardendale, Danny Varden of Thorsby, Larry Varden of Thorsby and Tim Varden of Jemison; step-daughters Ann Hayes of Thorsby and Donna Hayes of Thorsby; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and 13 step-grandchildren.

His grandson Little Gene Dennis preceded him in death.

Eva M. Burnett: Funeral services for Eva M. Burnett, 80 of Selma, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 with Rev. William Earl Short and Paul Atchison officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Cemetery in Maplesville.

Born on July 1, 1922 to Marion Chandler and Mamie Chandler, she died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003 at Vaughn Regional Medical Center/Parkway in Selma.

Survivors include her sons Larry Joe (Faye) Anderson of Plantersville, and Billy (Cindy) Burnett of Selma; brothers Burt Chandler of Maplesville and Barney Chandler of Maplesville; sisters Nettie B. Broadhead of Clanton and Eula Hayes of Clanton; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Her husband Bill Burnett, sons William Earl Anderson and Douglas McArthur Anderson, daughter Virginia Payne, and sisters Lucille Weathers and Maggie Anderson preceded her in death.

Nelson Brennan Delavan: Funeral services for Nelson Brennan Delavan, 42 of Jemison, were held Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. He died of massive heart attack at Chilton Medical Center on Saturday, Jan. 25. Delavan was a surveyor with Environmental Consulting and Engineering, Inc., of Montgomery. He was a graduate of Marion Institute and Auburn University Montgomery. He is survived by his parents, Ruth and Pat Delavan of Montgomery. He is also survived by his wife Jacque Carr Delavan of Jemison as well as two brothers, Clark M. Delavan of Lansing, Kan., and Dr. Joseph P. Delavan of Burlington, Calif. He is also survived by one sister, Vivian G. Delavan. He has one half sister, Frances E. Bartolotti, and one half brother, Patrick Michael Delavan, both of Calif.

He also was the uncle of six fine children. He was the best and most beloved husband. He is and will forever remain JQ's valentine.
