U.S. Army Ret. Michael L. Allen of Robin Lane, Enterprise, died Thursday evening, July 10, 2003, in the Medical Center Enterprise after an apparent heart attack. He was 60. Funeral arrangements and survivors are incomplete and will be announced later. Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise, 334-347-9598, is in charge of arrangements.

Eloise C. Brown
Eloise C. Brown, of 853 Ozark Road, Newville, died Thursday, July 10, 2003 at her residence following an extended illness. She was 67. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2003, at St. Peter A.M.E. Church in Headland with the Rev. G.L. Townsend officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Church Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Mr. Kenneth Washington Cherry of Dothan, Ala., died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center following an extended illness. He was 81. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Dothan, Ala., with the Rev. Brenda Yon officiating. Burial will follow at Dothan City Cemetery with Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2003. Neal John Clark
Neal John Clark, a Dothan resident, died Thursday night, July 10, 2003, from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was 16 years old. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. today, July 14, 2003, at Memphis Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernest O’Neal officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Neal John Clark Memorial Scholarship fund, c/o Ashford Academy, Ashford, Ala., 36312. Mrs. Dorothy Merle Brookins Granger of Junaluska Avenue, Dothan, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2003. She was 80. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2003, at the Calvary Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Van Gauthe of Calvary Baptist Church and Dr. Cecil Sanders of First Baptist Church of Headland officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Mrs. Granger’s body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time. At other times the family will be at 1802 Adrian Road, Dothan, Ala., 36303. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wiregrass Hospice Inc., P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, Ala., 36302. Viola Stone Hopkins of Perryville, Ala., died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at a local nursing home. She was 85. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Sonny Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday. Mr. Franklin McMillan of Ozark died Saturday night, July 12, 2003, in the Ozark Nursing Home following a long illness. He was 86. Mr. Judge (Paw) Payne of Newton, Ala., died at his residence Saturday, July 12, 2003, following an extended illness. He was 80. Mrs. Mary Othel Wells Robinson, a resident of Wesley Manor Retirement Home, died there Friday, July 11, 2003, following an extended illness. She was 89. Mr. Lewie Frank Snellgrove of Ozark died Sunday morning in the Dale Medical Center. He was 96. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003, from the Ridgecrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home parlors from 5 p.m. Monday, with the family-receiving friends until 7 p.m. Monday evening. Betty Jean Staggers
Betty Jean Staggers, a resident of Luverne, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Edge Regional Hospital, Troy, following an extended illness. She was 65 years old. Mr. Victor P. Taylor of Ozark died early Sunday morning in a Dothan Hospital. He was 82. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003, from the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Reams, the Rev. Marty Hamilton and the Rev. Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home parlors with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday evening. Holman Funeral Home of Ozark, 334-774-5348, is in charge of arrangements.

William Thompson Jr.
William Robert "Bill" Thompson Jr., John D. Odom Road, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Flowers Hospital. He was 78. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Van Gauthe officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday. At other times they will be at 101 Blue Bird Drive in Dothan.

Mrs. Sara Frances Byrd Flowers, 91, of Ozark, died early Saturday morning, November 18, 2000, in Ozark Nursing Facility following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Monday, November 20, 2000, from Holman Funeral Home Chapel with her son-in-law, Dr. Henry L. Lyon, III,and her Pastor, Reverend Greg Aman officiating. Assisting will be the Rev. Bill Hix. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be in the funeral home parlors from 4 p.m. today until service time on Monday. The family will receive friends in the funeral home parlors from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The family requests any memorials be made to the building fund of the Ozark Baptist Church, 314 South Union Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.

Charles McRae, 87, of 726 Chickasaw Street, Dothan, died Thursday, Nov. 16, atthe Jackson County Memorial Hospital Marianna, Fla. after an extended illness. Funeral arrangement are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date along with a complete list of survivors by Varner Memorial Funeral Home.

Edgar Lois Scott, 65, of Irvington, N.J., formerly a Dothan resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Irvington General Hospital after an extended illness. Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. from the Varner Memorial Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Sammie Walker officating. Burial will follow in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery with Varner Memorial Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held tonight from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will be placed in the chapel prior to the service. The family will receive friends at 205 Stough Street.

Clarence Albert Barbour, age 57, Ozark, died Thursday, Nov. 16, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. from Blackshear Church of Christ, Dothan with Brother Reginald Jones officiating. Burial will be in Klondike Friendship AME Cemetery with full military honors. Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be from the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday. Family will receive friends during these hours.

Mrs. Marjorie Brackin Buckley, 80, Fremont, Calif., formerly of Dothan died Wednesday, Nov. 17. Graveside services will be today at 2 p.m. at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until time to depart for the cemetery. Mrs. Buckley was born in Houston County having lived in California the past several years.

Mr. William Huff, Jr., 66, Graceville, Fla., passed Saturday morning in the Campbellton-Graceville Hospital. He was a native of Alabama but lived most of his life in Graceville. Funeral arrangements are incomplete but will be announced later by Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Fla.

Mrs. Catherine Anna Patterson, 72, of 1142 South Park, Dothan, died Friday, Nov. 17, at her residence following an extended illness. Memorial services will be Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. at Kent-Thornton Funeral Home with Father Gallagher officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Mrs. Patterson was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Queens, N.Y., the daughter of Mr. Adam Bornemann and Mrs. Mary Burns Bornemann.

Gloria J. Dickeson, 56, Jacksonville, died Saturday, Nov. 18 in Medical Center Enterprise after an apparent heart attack. Funeral arrangements will be made through K.L. Brown Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Patterson Sorrells Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Leslie Myhand, 72, 702 Blackshire Street, passed Nov. 17, at her residence. Funeral services will be announced later by Allen Funeral Home of Dothan.

Lanell Brown King, 65, a resident of Dothan, died Saturday morning, November 18, 2000 at Flowers Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held 2 pm Tuesday, November 21, 2000 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. Mrs. King will be placed in the church one hour prior to service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 pm Monday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Resource Center, P.O. Alvin Charles Bush, 82, of National City, Calif., died Friday, Nov. 17, at Doctor's Memorial Hospital in Bonifay, Fla., following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. (CST) from Noma Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow in Brown-Bush-Tindel Cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or family request those wishing to make memorials to Noma Baptist Church, P.O. Box 34, Noma, Fla., 32452 or Brown-Bush-Tindel Cemetery Fund c/o Durell Bush, 3634 Bush Road, Graceville, Fla. 32440.

John David Atkins, 65, a resident of Montgomery, Ala., died Saturday, January 6, 2001. Funeral services will be held at Leak-Memory Chapel on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Green wood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society or the March of Dimes.

Rev. Melvin Harper, age 70, of 2105 Hardwick Drive, Dothan, died at his home Saturday, January 6, 2001 after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity. The Rt. Rev. Charles Duvall, Bishop of the Central Gulf Coast will celebrate the funeral mass and the Rev. David Powell, the Rev. John Mark Wiggers and the Rev. Tom Nixon will assist. A reception will be held at the Nativity immediately following the service.

Mr. William J. Kelly, 71, of Ozark, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Dale Medical Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. (CST) Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001 in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with Full Military Honors, internment will follow, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home parlors from 4 until 5 p.m. this evening.

Ruth Hicks, 64, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at her residence in Eufaula. Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. from Chapman Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairview Addition Cemetery with Chapman Funeral Home directing.

Mr. J. I. Smith, age 72, of Ozark, died Sunday evening, Jan. 7, 2001 in Dale Medical Center. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home with the Rev. W.L. Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Westview Memorial Cemetery with Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. today until service time Wednesday. Mrs. Mary Helen Andrews, age 69, Rt. 6, Ozark, died at her residence Sunday afternoon, Jan. 7, 2001, following an extended illness. Memorial services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Ozark Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Aman officiating. Family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. Wednesday until service time. Memorial contributions are requested to be given to the Ozark Baptist Church Building Fund or to Wiregrass Hospice, 980-D East Andrews Ave., Ozark.

Mrs. Orencie Beachum, age 88, Jacob City, Fla. passed Monday, Jan. 8, 2001 in the Marianna Convalescent Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but will be announced later by Christian Memorial Chapel, Graceville, Fla.

Mrs. Livie F. James, 73, of Rt. 1, Box 96, County Road 34, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 at her residence. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001 at 1 p.m. from New Salem Baptist Church in Shorterville. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Stanford and Sons Funeral Home this evening from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m.

David Bush Jr., 40, of 2514 Reeves Street, Lot A8, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center after a brief illness. Memorial services will be today at 3 p.m. from the Varner Memorial Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. James H. Cody officiating.

Mr. Harmon "Shorty" Danford, age 82, of Andalusia, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001 in an Andalusia hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001 at 2 p.m. from Keahey Funeral Home chapel in Andalusia. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Keahey Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund.

Eddie Middlebrooks, age 95, of 1201 Canterbury Farm Road, Midland City, died Thursday, Jan 4, 2001, in Marianna, Fla. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2001 at 2 p.m. from the chapel at Headland Peoples Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greater Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Headland.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Cooper Jones, died Jan. 7, 2001, at her residence in Samson following an extended illness. Her death came two days before her 92nd birthday. Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Samson with the Rev. Ralph Arron officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in the Ganer community with Pittman Funeral Home directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. Vester Lee Boman, age 95 of Bainbridge, Ga., (formerly of Slocomb), died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 at Memorial Manor in Bainbridge following an extended illness. Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. from Christian Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Ward Wilson Memory Hill Funeral Home directing.
