Mrs. Linda May Russell of Dothan passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at Extendicare under Hospice Care. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Kent-Thornton Funeral Home of Dothan, 793-1117, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Willie Jean Simmons of Coco Beach, Fla., formerly of Samson, died Oct. 4, 2002, in Coco Beach. Funeral arrangements are incomplete but will be announced later by Pittman Funeral Home of Samson, 898-7141.

Mrs. Gertrude Wilson of Hilo, Hawaii, and formerly of Samson (Sellersville community), died July 2002. Funeral arrangements may be obtained by calling Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva, 684-2600.

Mr. Howard H. Cummings, lifelong resident of Dothan, beloved husband of Ida Mae Cummings and deacon of the Tabernacle Baptist Church Stough Street, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 82. Funeral services are incomplete but will be announced later by Scott’s Chapel Hill Mortuary of Enterprise, 393-6100.

Mr. James Tillman Carr of Bay Minette, formerly of Ariton, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Extendicare Health Center in Dothan after a brief illness. He was 65. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Magnolia United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Adams officiating and Keahey Funeral Home of Clio directing. Family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wanda E. Coleman of Enterprise died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 4, 2002, in Enterprise after a brief illness. She was 94. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Walker Epps and Pastor Jim Endrihs officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time today. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Enterprise, P.O. Mrs. Lessie Shehane Danner of Ozark joined her Heavenly Father on Friday, Dec. 6, 2002. She was 89. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home With Chaplain Randall Johnson and the Rev. Gene Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Anitoch Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.

Wilburn Horace Dyson, formerly of Dothan, died in the V.A. Medical Center in Tuskegee Friday, Dec. 6, 2002. He was 55. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Winford O. Gulledge officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Free Will Baptist Cemetery, near Columbia.

Earline P. Arnold Grimmer died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Wesley Manor in Dothan following an extended illness. She was 89. She had been a resident at Wesley Manor for seven years. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today at Selma Baptist Church Cemetery on South Park Street in Dothan with the Rev. Lynn Nesbitt officiating and Ward-Wilson Funeral Home of Dothan directing. Visitation with the family will be held one hour before the graveside service at Ward-Wilson Funeral Home in Dothan. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, Ala., 36302. Floral gifts will also be welcomed and appreciated.

Mr. Carl John Hall of Muirfield Lane in Dothan died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. He was 81. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Anderson officiating and Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home directing. Interment will be at Clark Cemetery on Brannon Stand Road. Mrs. Burma R. Johns of Graceville, Fla., died Saturday morning, Dec. 7, 2002, at her residence. She was 85. Funeral services for Mrs. Johns will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church in Graceville, Fla., with Pastor Wayne Fussell officiating. Burial will follow in Marvin Chapel Cemetery with Williams Funeral Home of Graceville directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Mary Evelyn Strickland May of Black passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Wiregrass Medical Center in Geneva after an extended illness. She was 72. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Geneva with the Rev. Cecil Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Home Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Bottoms Chapel Funeral Home of Geneva directing. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Issac (Ike) Mcleod, a resident of Ozark, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. He was 73. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Trawick Funeral Home of Ozark, 774-8374.

Gretchen "Sue" Smith, of P.C. Black Road in Geneva died Thursday morning, Dec. 5, 2002, at Flowers Hospital. She was 55. Byrd Funeral Home of Dothan, 793-3003, is in charge of arrangements.

Sadie M. Thomley of Thomley Road in Wicksburg passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at her residence. She was 81. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home with Brother Buddy Hood and Brother Scott Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. today at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of her granddaughter, Laura Riverbark, 920 Thomley Road. Mr. James R. (Bud) Brady died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness. He was 80. Mrs. Eva H. Jordan Buie, who will be long remembered for her tea cakes and lane cakes, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at the Henry County Nursing Home in Abbeville. She was 85. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Columbia Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Newton and David Cook officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of the late Olice and Burma Carter at 205 E. Church St., in Columbia. Martha F. Cusson of Bonita Springs, Fla., passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, in Naples, Fla. She was 65. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. EDT Thursday at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel, Columbus, Ga., with the Rev. Tommy Fountain officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. EDT at Midland City Cemetery in Midland City. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. EDT today at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in her memory.

Mr. Alto Hearn of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of the McChapel community in Marianna, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, in Jacksonville. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, (850) 263-6834.

Walter Jordan (Joe) Henson Sr., of Birmingham was called home to be with his Lord on Monday, Oct. 7, 2002. He was 68. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Chapel. Burial will follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Bessie Adell Hicks of Bonifay, Fla., passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at her residence. She was 99. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. today at Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Derrall Marshall and the Rev. M.L. Green officiating. Burial will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Geneva County with Peel Funeral Home directing.

James D. Holland of Enterprise died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, in Enterprise after a lengthy illness. He was 73. The funeral will be 9 a.m. Thursday at Searcy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lance Hogan officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Annie Lorene Cox Martin, a resident of Jackson County Convalescent Center, formerly of Slocomb, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Campbellton-Graceville Hospital. She was 85. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Byrd and the Rev. Dan Raley officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Annie Laurie Pittman of Ozark passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham following an extended illness. She was 72. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Chapel with the Rev. W.L. Sheffield officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Other than scheduled visitation times, the family will be at the home of her granddaughter, Lindsey Moore, 507 Porter Andrews Rd., in Ozark. Pete Reaves of Headland died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Inez Maddox Rudd of Enterprise died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, in the Medical Center Enterprise. She was 81. Clara Mae Godwin of Napier Field died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness. She was 88. The funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Mt. Zion Assembly of God Church in Grimes with the Revs. Max McKinney and M. L. Green officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Godwin will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time today. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, Alabama, 36302. Mrs. Godwin was born May 31, 1914, in Dale County and lived the early part of her life in Ariton. She later moved to Napier Field where she lived most of her life. Mrs. Godwin was employed with the Dale County School System for several years and retired from the Alabama Education Association in 1976. She was a member of Mt. Zion Assembly of God. Byrd Funeral Home of Dothan, 793-3003, is in charge of arrangements.

Talmadge Butler officiating. Burial will be in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Mary J. Barkett Spano of Ozark, died suddenly in her home Saturday evening, Oct. 5, 2002. She was 86. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ozark First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Billy Gaither officiating. Interment will be in Westview Memorial Cemetery, with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at the family home, 404 Country Club Drive, Ozark, Alabama, 5-7 tonight, with the family receiving friends during this time. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Wednesday. Mamie Ruth Bedsole Wynn of Ellisville, Miss., died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at her residence. She was 70. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Ellisville. Samantha Faye Register, age 27, of 14895 Bluff Road, Summerdale, Alabama, formerly of Dothan, died Monday, April 22, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A. M. Friday, April 26, 2002, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary chapel with Rev. Charles Barker officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P. M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland. At other times, the family will be at the home of her parents, Sammy and Sandra Register, 298 Register Road, Dothan.

Corene Armstrong Granberry Riley, age 78, of 3327 State Highway 134 East, Headland, died late Tuesday night, April 23, 2002, at her home after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Friday, April 26, 2002, in the Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Vince Lee and Rev. Ricky L. Smith officiating and a eulogy to be given by Carolyn Hornsby. Graveside services will follow in the Hebron Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Chuck Locke officiating and Holman-Headland Mortuary directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the services. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P. M. Thursday at the mortuary. Eric Gerald Grice, age 33, of 101 Fencepost Lane, Dothan, died late Tuesday afternoon, April 23, 2002, in the emergency room of the Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Georgia. Complete funeral arrangements and surviving relatives will be announced by Holman-Headland Mortuary.

Sally F. Logue, 66, of Weeki Wachee, Fla., died at home April 19, 2002, under the loving care of her family and Hernando Pasco Hospice. She was a native of Thomasville, Ga., formerly of Atlanta, Ga. The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Main Street in Thomasville, Ga., with the Rev. Keith Hill officiating. Brian Patrick Ward, 22, of 87 Hood Street, Cottonwood, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, near Grand Ridge, Fla., from injuries received in a watercraft accident. The funeral will be 2 p.m. today in the Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Hurricane United Methodist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. The family will be at the residence in Cottonwood.

Margaret Baxley Murphy, 83, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center following a brief illness.
