Emmett Dwain "Wayne" Clark

Bluff Springs, Fla. Mr. Emmett Dwain "Wayne" Clark, 65, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 in Bluff Springs, Fla. He was a native of Cullman, a former resident of Cantonment, Fla., and a resident of Bluff Springs, Fla., for the past three years. He was a member of the Ensley Masonic Lodge, a past member of the Ensley Pipefitter Local, and attended the Pentacostal/Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Riley and Lennie Clark; a brother, Tice Clark; and three sisters, Ethel, Doris, and Hazel.

Ruby Aretha Hobbs Rabon

Castleberry

Mrs. Ruby Aretha Hobbs Rabon, 83, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at an Evergreen medical facility after an extended illness. She was a native of Damascus and lifelong resident of Castleberry. She was retired from Westgate Village Nursing Home and attended Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by seven sons, Wilbur Rabon and James Bruce (Shirley) Rabon, both of Brewton, and Levi (Becky) Rabon, Ernest (Deborah Jo) Rabon, Joe Rabon, Darroll (Cindy) Rabon and Lester (Susan) Rabon, all of Castleberry; three daughters, Irma (Donald) Rabon and Fae (Al) Godwin, both of Castleberry and Sue (Craig) Boyd of Brewton; two sisters-in-law, Stella Hobbs of East Brewton, and Ida Pearl Hobbs of Andalusia; 29 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 3, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Buffington Cemetery in Castleberry with the Rev. Thomas Smith and the Rev. Marvin Merritt officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Ruthie Mae Blair Brooks

Brewton

Mrs. Ruthie Mae Blair Brooks, 76, of McGougin Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Brewton and was a retired weaver with Brewton Ribbon Mill with 46 years of service. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane Wilson of Brewton; a brother, Roger Blair of Brewton; a sister, Clara Cohron of Brewton; two grandchildren, John Wilson and Debra Smith; four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Mrs. Ruth Dale officiating. Burial followed at Weaver Cemetery on Appleton Road with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Lily Corinne Smith

Atmore

Mrs. Lily Corinne Smith, 84, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at a local hospital after a brief illness. She was a native and long time resident of Brewton and a former resident of Pensacola, Fla., before moving to Atmore. She was of the Episcopal faith and a retired cost accountant from Monsanto with 28 years of service.

She is survived by a son, Harry C. (Janet) Smith of Atmore; a daughter, Corinne Lamont of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Darren Meehan, Amy Meehan, Jonathan Smith and Jamie Elizabeth Talley and one great-grandchild, Caitlyn Grace Talley.

Graveside services were held Saturday, Jan. 8, at 11:30 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

John Larry Willis

Pensacola, Fla.

Mr. John Larry Willis, 55, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in Pensacola. He was a native of Pensacola and a member of the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by a brother, Jim Willis of Pensacola; a special cousin, Lee Stallworth of Daphne; and three aunts, Roxie Stallworth of Pensacola, Dorothy Willis of Century, Fla., and Eunice English of Flomaton, three uncles, Sonny English, Delford McMillan and Herman McMillan, and a number of other cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home with speakers Tom Horn and Leonard Burrell officiating. Burial followed at Little Escambia Cemetery in Flomaton with Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel directing.

Pallbearers were Lee Stallworth, Mark Stallworth, David Willis, Chester Smith, Frank Mize and Travis Stallworth.

James C. Mills

Brewton

Mr. James C. Mills, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005. He was a native of Jemison, Ala., and had been a resident of Brewton since 1947. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. He was a retired postal clerk and was a member of Alco Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Daisy Mills of Brewton; a son, Ronald F. Mills of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Jamianne Watson of Birmingham and Lynn (Kenny) Crutchfield of Brewton; a step-daughter, Janice (Woody) Ash of Uriah; a brother, Leo Mills of Brewton, and eight grandchildren, Chris Watson, Dan Watson, Adam Crutchfield, Matt Crutchfield, Whitney Mills, James Ash, Sharon Caraway and Lisa Huggins, and a great-grandchild, Ashlianne Caraway.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 8, at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of Craver's Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Fitts officiating. Burial followed at Union Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Chris Watson, Dan Watson, Adam Crutchfield, Matt Crutchfield, Whitney Mills and Sam Adams.

Iver Lee Jackson

Range

Mrs. Iver Lee Jackson, 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in a Mobile hospital. She was a native of Lenox and a resident of Range. She was a school teacher and principal at Range School and worked at the post office in Range. She was preceded in death by her husband, Myles Jackson.

She is survived by a brother, Robert Kenneth Robinson; sisters, Vivian R. Fore of Mobile and Mary R. Bradford of Chickasaw; a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Cravers Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Smith officiating. Burial followed at Catawba Cemetery with Cravers Funeral Home directing.

Dorothy Annette Maddox

East Brewton

Mrs. Dorothy Annette Maddox, 82, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, in a local nursing facility after an extended illness. She was a native and life long resident of Escambia County, Ala. She was a member of East Brewton United Methodist Church and a retired library aide.

She is survived by a daughter, Lynetta Parker of East Brewton; a sister, Pauline Holman of East Brewton; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. at East Brewton United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Bromstad officiating. Burial followed at Fort Crawford Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Rupert Mason Jordan

East Brewton

Mr. Rupert Mason Jordan, 81, of East Brewton, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at his residence after an extended illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Escambia County. He was a member of Brewton First Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WW II, and retired from Monsanto with 32 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Bettie Jo Lawless Jordan of East Brewton; two sons, Randy Jordan of Brewton and Rusty Jordan of East Brewton; one sister, Peggy Blackburn of Atmore; and one granddaughter, Courtney Jordan.

Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at Green Acres Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Fitts, the Rev. John Finklea and the Rev. Ron Headley officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Larry Wayne "L.J." Jones

Brewton

Mr. Larry Wayne "L.J." Jones, 49, died suddenly Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at his residence. He was a native of Madison, Ind., and a former resident of Flomaton, before moving to Brewton. He was a boilermaker and of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Dollie Jackson Jones of Brewton; one step-son, Billy Wayne Madden of Birmingham; one step-daughter, Melissa Ann Rogers of Pensacola; one sister, Debra Lambert of Tennessee, and one step-grandson, Ryan Brown.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Madden officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Jay, Fla., with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Freeman Ealon Summers

Brewton

Mr. Freeman Ealon Summers, 82, of Ridge Road, died early Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, in a local nursing home after an extended illness. He was a native of Holly Springs, Ark., long time resident of Flint, Mich., where he was a retired inspector with Fisher Body Works General Motors Corporation, before moving to Brewton in 1986. He was of the Baptist faith, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran having served in WW II, a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by one son, Eddie L. (Debra) Summers of Flint, Mich.; four daughters, Delorice (Rodney) Merritt of Benson Ariz., Brenda (Gary) Meadows of Lakeland, Fla., Linda (Ron) Light of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Janice (Joe) Jackson of Pensacola, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Headley officiating. Burial followed at Weaver Cemetery on Appleton Road with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Hazel Louise Kennedy

Brewton

Mrs. Hazel Louise Kennedy, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, in a local nursing facility. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by three sons, Gladden William Graves, Jimmy Graves and Henry David Graves.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Kennedy of Brewton; four sons, Johnny Ray Graves and Melvin Kennedy, both of Frisco City, and Harold Eugene Kennedy and Tony Kennedy, both of Brewton; five daughters, Melba Joyce Lambeth, Janice Marie Martin, Patsy Gail Hogue and Roetta Bell, all of Brewton, and Vivian Jay of Uriah; one sister, Margaret Chavers of Brewton; 30 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Craver's Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Cardwell, the Rev. Robert Wilson and the Rev. Jessie Bohannon officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Mrs. Kennedy's grandsons.

David McKee

Brewton

Mr. David McKee, 50, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005. He was a native of Brewton and was preceded in death by a brother, Johnnie McKee and a sister, Mabel Davis McKee.

He is survived by two daughters, Michelle McKee (Jayson) Smith and Sandra McKee (Ronald) McCormick, both of Akron, Ohio; a son, Desmond Dixon of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Vanessa Deere of Montgomery; five brothers, Jake McKee Jr., Joseph McKee, James McKee and Leon McGee, all of Rochester, N.Y. and Howard McKee of Brewton, eight grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. at Presley-Fluker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jo Meeks officiating. Burial followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

Thomas C. "Tony" Hanks

Jay, Fla.

Mr. Thomas C. "Tony" Hanks, 61, died Jan. 5, 2005, at a local hospital. He was a native of Frisco City, but had been a resident of Jay for the past 37 years and was a member of the Gospel of Light Temple Church in Century. He was the founder and owner of H & H Drywall Contractors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burley and Jewel Hanks and a brother, Kent Hanks.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Hanks of Jay; a son, Matt Hanks of Jay; a daughter, Angie (Devon) Nelson of Jay; five sisters, Genene Baggett of McCullough, Glenda Averett and Elizabeth Johnson, both of Atmore, and Tiny Waters and Mary Griffis, both of Flomaton, and three grandchildren, Paul Thomas Black, Candace Black and Courtney Black.

Funeral services were held, Sunday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Gospel Light Temple in Century, Fla., with the Rev. Wallace Reid, the Rev. Bobby Carnley and the Rev. J.B. Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Ebenezer Cemetery in Jay, with Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing. Active pallbearers were Matt Hanks, Chad Hanks, Wade Harris, Johnny Griffis, Jamie Waters and Dennis Griffis. Honorary pallbearers were J.T. Fowler, Arthur Nelson, Tommy Nelson, Tony Owens, Melvin Carnley and Dr. C. David Smith.

Matilda Gulley

Century, Fla.

Ms. Matilda Gulley, 93, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005. Graveside services were held Monday, Jan. 10, at 1:30 p.m. at Century/Flomaton Cemetery on Hwy. 4 and Purifoy Street with the Rev. Freddie L. Stallworth officiating and Jackson-McMurray Funeral Services directing.
