Virgil Alexander

TUSCALOOSA - Virgil Alexander, 72, died November 26, 2001 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at Sunset Chapel, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Funeral Home. Sunset Funeral home is directing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Mellie Alexander; brother, Velter Alexander; and sister, Vandine Crowell.

Survivors include his wife, Jewell Alexander; daughter, Paula Golson; stepdaughters, Patsy Shelby, Jeanie Walker, Judy Latham, and Debbie Davis; sister, Vonnie Stephens; grandchildren, Brett Alexander Golson; step grandchildren, Michael McCain, Misty Martin, Charlie McCain, Melody McCain, Amanda McCain, Melissa Brown, Shelly Pate, Ricky Latham, Chris Williams, Tracey Hartley, and Travis Walters; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Resnol (Rex) Copeland Youngblood

Resnol (Rex) Youngblood, age 81, died December 3, 2001. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Burns and Rev. Todd Burkhalter officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Sara Youngblood Hamner; brother, Hobart Youngblood and sister; Carmen Tidwell parents Ed and Fannie Youngblood and grandparents Rufus and Annie Youngblood and Tim and Sarah Rutherford.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Youngblood, Glen Haven Nursing Home; son, Gary Youngblood, Sr., (Pat); sister, Ruby Starnes and Billie Morse both of Trafford, Ala.; brother, R. E. Youngblood, Coaling; grandchildren, Gary Youngblood, Jr., (Michele), Brandon Hamner (Donna), Tiffany Youngblood, Tara Herndon (Greg); four great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Hamner, Austin Hamner, Logan Youngblood and Matthew Herndon.

He was a member of Coaling Baptist Church and member of Local 1876 United Mine Workers of America owned and operated Youngblood Hauling. He served with the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II.

Pallbearers will be Reggie Youngblood, Biscuit Youngblood, Rusty Youngblood, Gary Youngblood, Jr., Brandon Hamner and Greg Herndon.

Honorary pallbearers are friends and neighbors of Coaling, Brookwood and Vance communities, Kenneth Miller, John Foster , Jan Miller, Earl Perry, Eddie Manderson, Frank Nichols, Mark Hottinger, Bobby Lunceford, Ray Schadey, Jr., Sammy Lee Boles, owners and former employees of Abston Construction Co., Butch Carroll, Cecil Pennington and Bobby Lang.

Sarah Laney Preskitt

Sarah Laney Preskitt, age 87, died December 2, 2001 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Cedar Bluff, Alabama with Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. F. Preskitt and daughter, Kay P. Cihak, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Survivors include daughters, Gwendolyn (Walter E.) Dockery of Tuscaloosa; sons, Jim (Jade) Preskitt, Tuscaloosa and Norman (Pat) Preskitt of Forney, Texas; son-in-law, Glenn W. Cihak of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister, Gladys Campbell, Rome, Ga.; grandchildren; Julie Dunn, Santa Rose Beach, Fla., Frank Preskitt, Birmingham, Kim Preskitt, Birmingham, Jeanese McCae, Tuscaloosa, Jamey Preskitt, Tuscaloosa, Debbie Silver, Forney, Texas, Dave Rusk, Greer, S.C., Gene Preskitt, Forney, Texas, Jed Preskitt, Forney, Texas, Penny Buehae, St. Petersburg, Fla., Wayne Cihak, St. Petersburg, Fla., Jan Thomas, St. Petersburg, Fla., Joey Cihak, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Christy Cihak, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and 27 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flower the family requests that donations be made to Alabama Organ Center, Alabama Kidney Foundation, American Diabetes Association of America or the Heart Association.

Jimmy Lynn (Moose) McKay

Jimmy Lynn (Moose) McKay, age 58, of 1702 41st Avenue, N.E., died December 3, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 12 noon, Wednesday, Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Pate officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Chiarella and grandparents, Ernest and Claudie Hardin.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie McKay; daughters, Vicki Dunton, Cindy Beasley (Larry), Deedie Poole (Jeff) and Glynda Arnold (Paul); brothers, Sam Chiarella and Ernest Chiarella; parents, Jack Chiarella (Bernadine); grandchildren April and Tyler Beasley, Aaron Dunton (April), Shane and Glen Arnold, Briston, Patrick and Courtney Gray and expectant great-grandchild, Madison Dunton.

He was a great husband, Dad and Papa. We will miss him dearly and cherish the wonderful memories forever.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers are employees of Uniroyal/Goodrich and members of Moose Lodge, Dr. White, Dr. Fritz, Dr. Sullivan, Patty Parrish, MICU staff DCH and special thanks to Katy Pugh, Clare Matthews and Gene.

Martice Dobbins Maxwell

Martice Dobbins Maxwell, age 89, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2001, in the home of her daughter in Salem, Indiana. She and her husband James Sidney Maxwell, Jr., made their home in Tuscaloosa in the Big Sandy community until his death in 1966.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with the Reverend Charles Durham officiating. Burial will follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the services.

Martice was the daughter of Allen and Jessie Dobbins; she was born near Boaz, Ala., and was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Beatrice Lee, Ethel Smith, Tola Spruell, Ruby Dobbins and her brothers Bert, Paul and Estel Dobbins.

Survivors include a son, James A. Maxwell and his wife Mary Ann of Conyers, Ga.; daughters Carolyn Anders and her husband Larry of Salem, Ind., and Barbara Sa’Pereira and her husband Augusto of Corning, N.Y., grandchildren Ken (Mary) Anders, Dana (Jonathan) Hueftle, Julianna Maxwell, James Sa’Pereira, Maxwell Sa’Pereira, and Cecy Sa’Pereria; great-grandchildren, Carlyn Anders, Jennifer McCleery and Kristen McCleery; sister-in-laws Dorothy Maxwell of Tuscaloosa and Mary Smith of Mason City, Iowa and of her many nieces and nephews, Jo Ann Maxwell and Joseph A. Maxwell reside in Tuscaloosa.

Martice was formerly a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa and of the Katie Hobson Friendship Class. She was a teacher who taught at Cottondale and Taylorville Elementary Schools at the beginning of her career and who retired as a fourth grade teacher after many years from Englewood Elementary School.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be given to your local Hospice or to an organization of your choice.

Doris H. Leavelle

Doris H. Leavelle passed away Sunday, December 2, 2001. Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 5 at Memorial United Methodist Church in Austin. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

Mrs. Leavelle is survived by her husband, Gaines S. Leavelle of Austin, Texas; son, James C. Leavelle of Austin, Texas; daughter, Jan M. Dodge (Don) of Universal City, Texas; brother, Waller Henderson, Birmingham; sister, Wyonna Franklin, Ocala, Fla.; brother-in-law, William Wagner, Apalachicola, Fla.; sister-in-law, Edna Wade, Northport, Ala., numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Rainbow Class of Memorial United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas.

Myrtle Brock Hinton

Myrtle Brock Hinton, age 85, died December 1, 2001 at North Mississippi Medical Center. Services will be held 2 p.m. today, Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Heritage Memorial Gardens with Nelson Funeral Home of Fayette directing.

Harvey Darmon

Harvey Damron, age 77, of 708 Centreville Street, died November 30, 2001. A memorial service will be held today, 11 a.m. at Agnew Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Green sboro with Agnew Funeral Home of Green sboro directing.

Aubrey Mitchell Cobb, Sr.

Aubrey Mitchell Cobb, Sr., age 86, of 1505 East 4th Avenue, died December 3, 2001, at Sumter Health and Rehab Center. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. today, Demopolis Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tommy Carr officiating. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis will be directing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emm Tomlinson Cobb.

Survivors include daughter, Linda Cobb Schilke of Murray N.C.; sons, Aubrey Mitchell Cobb, Jr., Mobile, Mark Lee Cobb, Dallas, Texas and Michael Owen Cobb, Dallas, Texas; sister, Allie Kinesbury, El Paso, Texas; cousin, Sldedge Cobb, Demopolis; five grandchildren and one grea5-grandchild.

He was born in Emelle, attended high school and college in Livingston; married Emm Tomlinson in 1935 and during the war he was in construction and helped build airports. After the ware he went to work for Marengo Mills for years and built several Vanity Fair Factories in the area and later went into the management of Marengo Mill’s for many years. He was very civic minded and built the civic center and library for the city of Demopolis. He belonged to Demopolis Rotary Club and was Citizen of the Year.

Willie Bowen

Willie Bowen, age 66, of 171 Brush Creek Drive, died November 27, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Services are this morning at 11 a.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church in Akron. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with McInnis Mortuary of Eutaw directing.

Billy Michael "Mike" Beck

Billy Michael "Mike" Beck, age 33, died December 2, 2001, at his residence. Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Trinity Christian Center in Northport with Bro. Ed Boothe officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on Romulus Road with Sunset Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the church. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Levert and Novics Beck and Murphy Crawford.

Survivors include brother, Keith Beck (Lynn) of Coker; parents, Billy and Dewanda Beck of Coker and grandmother, Lela Crawford, Holt; nephew, Brad Beck and niece Brittany Beck.

Pallbearers will be Brad Beck, Junior Strickland, Joe Beck, Ken Strickland, Dennis Strickland, Ronnie St. John, Joe Goodman, Scottie Beck, Richard Burroughs and Benny Strickland.

Willie G. Williams

NORTHPORT - Willie G. Williams, 68, died December 3, 2001 at Northport Medical Center. Complete Arrangements will be announced later by Wills' Funeral Service.

Lizzie Watkins

AKRON - Lizzie Watkins, 83, died December 3, 2001 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Oakhill Chapel with Rev. Bryan Alan and Rev. Paul Peoples officiating. Burial will follow in Oakhill Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 7-9 at the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband Fred Watkins; daughter Joy Watkins Terry; sons, William Watkins, Charles Watkins, Tommy Watkins, Richard Watkins and Phillip Watkins; brothers William F. Spencer and Watson O. Spencer; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Barry Watkins, Michael Watkins, David Watkins, Phill Watkins, Eugene Watkins and Christopher Terry.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Chandra and nurses and medical staff of DCH 2nd Floor. Members of Akron Baptist Church, friends and neighbors.
