Leoprice Sealey

TUSCALOOSA - Leoprice Sealey, age 46, died February 8, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 3 p.m. Friday, Mt. Galilee Baptist Church with Rev. Jessie l. Miller, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in West Highland Memorial Gardens with Wills' Funeral Service directing. Visitation is 12 noon until 7 p.m. at Wills' Funeral Service.

J. Olene Townsend

TUSCALOOSA - J. Olene Townsend, 73, of 1203 27th Street, died Jan. 29, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home on Sunday at 3 p.m. with Ed Steelman officiating. Burial will be at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Visitation is Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Hester T. Townsend, and her grandparents, Houston and Argie Hays.

She is survived by her daughters, Doris Weems (Larry) of Cottondale and Louann Butler of Northport; sons, Bill Townsend of Tuscaloosa and Glenn Townsend (Sharon) of Northport; sister, Catherine Turner of Warrior; brother, J.B. Hays of Hayden; grandchildren, Robin Townsend, Phillip Townsend, Paul Weems and Trent Townsend; great-grandchildren, Grant Townsend, Brooklyn Weems and Riley Weems.

Pallbearers will be Alford Rice, Mitchell Bagwell, Steve Hamner, Jim Turner, Johnny McDaniel and John Turner.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Richard Shamblin, DCH Cancer Clinic, Dr. Donald Scott, the seventh floor nurses of DCH, Rosedale Baptist Church, Rudy Martin and the employees of Estes Nursing Home.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to Glenn Haven Nursing Home.

Valerie Varnon Scarritt

TUSCALOOSA - Valerie Varnon Scarritt, 80, of 1918 Fairmont Drive, died Thursday at her home. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Canterbury Chapel, with Rev. Ken Fields officiating. Burial will be in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, with Heritage Chapel directing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wesley Scarritt.

Survivors include her sons, Charles Wesley Scarritt III (Clara) of Tuscaloosa and Thomas Varnon Scarritt (Kathryn) of Birmingham, and her grandchildren, Marjorie Nell Harris and Kathryn Forrester Harris of Tuscaloosa, and Sara Kathryn Scarritt and Thomas Varnon Scarritt, Jr. of Birmingham.

She was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and the University of Alabama. She worked as a newspaper reporter and a book and magazine editor, and served for many years as liberian of the Northport Library. She attended Canterbury Chapel, and was a member of the PEO Sisterhood.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Charles W. Scarritt Scholarship Fund at the University of Alabama, Canterbury Chapel, or the Cancer Care Center of Tuscaloosa.

Sallie D. Williams

EUTAW - Sallie D. Williams, 91, formerly of Eutaw, died Jan. 27, 2001, at Providence Hospital in Detroit, Mich. Services will be held at Zion Brush Creek Baptist Church (on Lower Gainesville Road) in Eutaw on Saturday at noon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6 to 7. Gandy Funeral Home of Eutaw is directing.

Mary L. Simmons Swift

TUSCALOOSA - Mary L. Simmons Swift, 46, of 5211 Stillman Blvd., died Jan. 30, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at West Highland Baptist Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Forest Moore officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Oak Memorial Park. Visitation is today from noon until 7 p.m. Wills’ Funeral Service, Inc. is directing.

Dorothy J. Barrett

TUSCALOOSA - Dorothy J. Barrett, age 84, of 2700 ML King Blvd., Apt. 5D, died February 10, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2002, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church. Rev. Jerry Seay will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Oak Memorial Park with Rollins’ Mortuary directing. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service.

James Edward Moore

WEST BLOCTON - James Edward Moore, 81, died Jan. 31, 2001, at Bessemer Carraway. Services will be held at Rockco’s Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Randall Crotts and Rev. Robert Woodard officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8. Rockco’s Funeral Home, Inc. is directing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Moore of West Blocton; brother, Roy Moore of West Blocton; sisters, Elizabeth Haynes of Gulf Shores and Winifred Butler of Birmingham; nephew, Charles Logan Jr. (Janice) of West Blocton; grandnephew, Brian Logan (Julie) of West Blocton; great-grandnephew, Ken Logan; great-grandnieces, Savannah Logan and Leanna Logan; several other nieces, nephews and many friends.

"Uncle James" was a very special person. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Pallbearers will be Brian Logan, Kenny Deerman, Richard Myers, Willie A. Marchant, Sam Morris and Jerry Claude Deerman.

Carrie Bell Peoples

EUTAW - Carrie Bell Peoples, 102, died Jan. 29, 2001, at Green e County Hospital. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Union on Saturday at noon. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Gandy Funeral Home of Eutaw is directing.

James Edward Taylor

MOUNDVILLE - James Edward Taylor, age 79, of 123 Marble Lane, died February 14, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Memory Hill Gardens. Rev. Donnie Browning is officiating with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Taylor; sons, James Michael Taylor and Jerry Eugene Taylor; brother, W. E. Taylor; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Wyatt, Ray Sullivan, Angie Tucker, Berry Herron, Doug Nelson, Rufus T. Morrison and David Taylor.

William Cecil Howell

NORTHPORT - William Cecil Howell, 79, died February 13, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at Sunset Chapel, Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. Roy Sanford and Rev. Dewey Thomas will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Sunset Funeral Home is directing.

Survivors include his wife, DeLois P. Howell; daughters, Sandra Gayle Watkins and her husband Mark; son, William G. "Jackie" Howell and his wife Marie; sister, Louise White; brothers, Milton Howell, Johnny Howell, and Leon Howell; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Howell was the perfect husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Pallbearers will be Joe Howell, Charles Shirley, Wallace Murphy, Billy Howell, Randall Howelll, Bobby Creamer and Gib Tannehill.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees of Central Foundry, Pinkerton and Wackenhut Security Guards, Friends and Neighbors and the Masons Association.

William G “Bill” Barton

JASPER - William G. "Bill" Barton, age 73, died February 14, 2002, at BMC Princeton. Services will be held 2 p.m. today, Boldo First Baptist Church with Shane Madison, John Ganey and Weymon Crumpton officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Crumpton Barton, Jasper; daughter, Cynthia Lewis and husband Doug, Tuscaloosa; son, Ryan Barton, Huntsville; granddaughters, Kimberly Lewis, Susan Lewis, Tuscaloosa; Victoria Barton, Huntsville; Alise Barton and Andi Setzer, Ring Gold, Ga.; sisters, Doris Herron and Grady, Sue Banks and Coleman and Bonnie Tidwell and Kenneth all of Jasper; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Richard Simmons, Jessie Gammon, Gerald Rogers, Barry Bennett, Brad Sandlin, and Owen Barton.

Honorary pallbearers are the Men’s Sunday School Class.

Memorials can be made to Boldo First Baptist Church Building Fund.

TUSCALOOSA - Frank McCoy, 67, died Feb. 1, 2001, at his residence. Complete funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by Wills’ Funeral Service, Inc.

Willie N. McDaniel

CARROLLTON - Willie N. "Dan" McDaniel, 76, of 1930 County Road 5, died Feb. 1, 2001, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be at Marvin Chapel Methodist Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ricky Skelton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Stabler Robbins Funeral Home of Aliceville is directing.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Jimmy and Nethera McDaniel.

Survivors include his wife, Mary McDaniel, Carrollton; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Ammons, Carrollton, and Melinda (William H.) McDaniel, Carrollton; two brothers-in-law, Anton (Betty) Stimac, Reform, and Bobby J. (Rosie) Stimac, Carrollton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Marvin Chapel Methodist Church or Cancer Society.

Edward C. Wilson

TUSCALOOSA - Edward C. Wilson, 73, of 4537 47th Court East, died Jan. 28, 2001, at VA Medical Center. Services will be held at Beard Chapel/A.M.E. Zion on Saturday at noon with the Rev. Singrid Sander officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Oak Memorial Park. Visitation is today from noon until 7 p.m. Wills’ Funeral Service, Inc. is directing.

Elizabeth Hartley

TUSCALOOSA - Elizabeth Hartley, age 54, died February 10, 2002 at her residence. Arrangements will be announced later by Memory Chapel Funeral Home.

Bertha Jones

GORDO - Bertha Jones, age 93, of 5333 Co. Rd. 57, died February 9, 2002 at Northport Medical Center. Services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. from Corinth Baptist Church. Burial will follow in church cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

Michael Richie

DUNCANVILLE - Michael Richie, 40, of 11812 Daffron Road, died February 6, 2002. Services will be at Magnolia Chapel, Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. J.W. Kornegay will officiate. Burial will follow in Duncanville Cemetery. Magnolia Chapel South is directing,

He is preceded in death by his father, James Lee Richie; grandmother, Pastoria Richie; grandfather, Aubrey Richie; uncles, Charles Brice, and Joe Richie.

Survivors include his mother, Hazel Smith, Duncanville; sister, Janet Richie (Scott), Harrison, Tenn.; brothers, Larry and Charles Richie, Duncanville; Grandparents, Leon and Minnie Brice, Duncanville.

Michael was an author of children’s books.

Pallbearers will be James Teer, Phillip Richie, Roman Carroll, Jonathan Edmonson, Micah House, and Joey Carter.

Honorary pallbearers are Haysop Baptist Church Members, and 1979 Graduating Class of Holt High School.
