Charles L. “Charlie” Allgood

BRIERFIELD - Charles L. "Charlie" Allgood, 89, died May 30, 2002 at his residence. Services will be held in the Chapel of Rocko Funeral Home-Centreville, today, June 1, 2002 at 10 a.m. Rev. Terry Smith and Father Bill Wiygul will officiate. Burial will follow in Pineland Memorial Cemetery-Centreville. Rocko’s Funeral Home of Centreville is directing.

Mr. Allgood was a retired President of Southeastern Lumber Company, a Veteran of the US Navy and served in WWII. He was a flight instructor for the US Navy until 1949, a Shriner, and a graduate of the University of Georgia. He loved his family very much.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Allgood, Brierfield; son, Dr. David Allgood and his wife Judy, Brierfield; grandchildren, Rachel Allgood, Tuscaloosa, Stephanie Miller, Centreville, and Jennifer Hudson, Brent.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Phil Adams, Joseph Hudson, Wayne Miller, Ronald Foster , Larry Clark, and Dr. Paul Morgan.

Elizabeth Ann Baughman

TUSCALOOSA - Elizabeth Ann Baughman, 89, died at her residence. Complete arrangements will be announced later by Magnolia Chapel-Northport.

Virginia P. Gray

COTTONDALE - Virginia P. Gray, 62, of 8317 Whispering Lane, died May 31, 2002 at Heritage Nursing Home. Graveside services will be held in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, Monday at 10 a.m. Minister Mayo Woolbright will officiate. Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing

She is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Fannie Payne; sister, Delma Nelson and baby daughter, Debra Sue Gray.

Survivors include her husband, Harold D. Gray of Cottondale.; sons, Roger Gray, Northport, Kenny Gray (Wanda), Northport, and David Gray (Leigh Ann), Cottondale; sisters, Marjorie Tidmore, Goodrich, Texas, Lois Darby, Cottondale, Audrey Webster, Indianapolis, Ind., and Leah Hebert, Nashville, Tenn.; brothers, Boyd Payne, North East, Md., Billy Payne, Boyton Beach, Fla., Thomas Payne, Lanett, Ala., Rayburn Payne, Northport, and Richard Payne, Northport; grandchildren, Jason Gray, Pensacola, Fla., Kathy Gray, Winfield, Jonathan Gray, Cottondale, Christopher Gray, Cottondale, Austin and Matthew Gray, Northport.

Alice Ward

TUSCALOOSA - Alice Ward, died June 2, 2002 in Wilmer, Ala. Services will be held at Enterprise Baptist Church, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Enterprise Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Memory Chapel. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

Louise Wise

FAYETTE - Louise Wise, 73, of 1105 Wise Road, died June 2, 2002 at her residence. Services will be held at Grace Baptist Church, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery on Highway 43 North. Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Nelson Funeral Home is directing.

Freddie Ray Martin

NORTHPORT - Freddie Ray Martin, 52, of 13738 Koffman Loop, died May 31, 2002 at his residence. Graveside services were held in Arbor Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Sunday at 2 p.m. Kendall Martin officiated. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home of Northport directed.

He is preceded in death by hi parents, Henry and Dorothy Martin; and brother, Willie Lee Martin.

Survivors include his daughter, Monica Layne of Northport; son, Kelvin Martin of Dickson, Tenn.; sisters, Emma Gann of Northport, Nellie Tingle of Green sboro, and Beatrice Styron of Tuscaloosa; brothers, George L. Martin of Portland, Tenn., Charles Martin of Northport, James Martin of Tuscaloosa, and special friend, Larry Jackson; grandsons, Austin Wade Martin, Andy Martin, Tyler Martin, Dustin Martin, and Brady Martin.

Active pallbearers will be friends and family.

Honorary pallbearers are friends and neighbors.

Annie Bell Martin

BROOKWOOD - Annie Bell Martin, 89, of 12931 Camp Cherry Austin Road, died June 1, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held in the Chapel of Magnolia Chapel South, today at 2 p.m. Rev. Ralph E. Lowery and Rev. Charles Patterson will officiate. Burial will follow in Old Blue Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Magnolia Chapel South is directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Martin, and her son, Rodney Martin.

Survivors include her daughters, Joan Herring (Jessie), Brookwood, Mary Hallman (Bill), Fleetwood, and Judy Beard (Tommy), Brookwood; sons, Ronnie Martin (Pam), Gary Martin (Barbara), and daughter-in-law, Ruth Martin, all of Brookwood; 16 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Hyde, Buddy Hyde, Devin Leger, Richard Patterson, Neil Doriety, and Danny Boyd.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Jimmie Clark and Staff, Members of Harmony Holiness Church and New Hope Assembly Church, Friends and Neighbors.

Cecil Ross

MINERAL BLUFF, GA. - Mr. Cecil Ross, 74, passed away Friday May 31, 2002 at his home in Mineral Bluff, Ga. Graveside services will be held today, June 3, 2002 at the Ross Family Cemetery in Mineral Bluff, Ga. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, Ga. in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife Mrs. Carrie Goins Ross of the home. Daughter and son-in-law Trudy and Michael Anders, grandchildren Bryan and Angela Anders of Northport, Ala.

Wilford Eugene Burgess

PELL CITY - Wilford Eugene Burgess, 82, formerly of Ethelsville, Pickens County, died May 31, 2002. Services will be held at Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel, June 2, 2002 at 4 p.m. Burial will follow in Forest Crest Cemetery. Rev. Bill Ayers and Rev. Eugene Howard will officiate.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Burgess; daughters, Lillie Franklin and Genia Doyle; brother, Elton Burgess; sister, Mary Ellen Jayne; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Burgess was a Deacon at New Hope and First Baptist Church, and a member of Woodman of the World.

Elizabeth Ann Hubbell Baughman

TUSCALOOSA - Elizabeth Ann Hubbell Baughman, 89, died at her residence. Services will be held at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home in Northport, Tuesday at 2 p.m. Dr. Duncan Hunter and Dr. Kenneth Dunivant will officiate. Burial will follow in Oregonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home of Northport is directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Dr. Willis J. Baughman of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; her parents: Samuel Van Hubbell and Bessie Fitch Hubbell; and her brother: James Fitch Hubbell, all of Quincy, Ohio.

Survivors include her son: W. Bruce Baughman (Charlotte Lloyd) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandson: David Bruce Baughman (Angela) of Helena, Ala.; and great-granddaughter: Faith Nicole Baughman of Helena, Ala.

Mrs. Baughman was the daughter of the late Mr. Samuel Van Hubbell and Bessie Fitch Hubbell. She was born in Quincy, Ohio and was a graduate of Denison University with further studies at Wittenburg University and Ohio State University. She taught in both elementary and junior high schools in Quincy before her marriage to Willis J. Baughman in August of 1938.

Following a move to Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1948 where her husband joined the faculty at the University of Alabama as a professor of Health Education. Ann held offices in the University Women’s Club, Delta Omicron Music Fraternity, was founder of the Alpha Xi Delta Alumni Association, was a member of the Lagonda Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She served as president of the Tuscaloosa Music Club, and was the Alabama Federation President 1975-77.

In later years she remained committed to and delighted by, the active, world-wide correspondence she shared with fellow music lovers, former students, faculty and fond friends.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 800 Green sboro Avenue, Tuscaloosa AL 35406 or Oregonia Baptist Church, 20395 Oregonia Road, Berry AL 35546, or to any charity of donors choice.

Active Pallbearers will be Donnie Ray Collins, Emmett Dendy, Dr. Donnie Smith, Duane Cunningham, Steven Crew, Mike Gilchrist, Gavin Carpenter, and Phillip Williams.

Honorary pallbearers are Members of the Amaranth/Brandon Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church and Tuscaloosa Music Club.

Alice Crawford Ward

TUSCALOOSA - Alice Crawford Ward, died June 2, 2002 in Wilmer, Ala. Services will be held at Enterprise Baptist Church, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Enterprise Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Memory Chapel. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

Jacob A. Smith

TUSCALOOSA - Jacob A. Smith, 65, of 3411-35th Court, The Glens, died on May 30, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at the church of the Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at 1 p.m. Rev. T.W. Linton will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Oak Memorial Gardens with Rollins’ Mortuary Directing. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to funeral time.

He leaves to cherish his memories; a loving and devoted wife for forty-one years, Ruby L, Smith; four children, Rev. Annette L. Pullom (Marvin Sr.) of Birmingham, Ala., Edward L. Smith (Evelyn) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Colleen D. Smith of Birmingham, Ala., and Yolanda Smith Harris (Melvin III) of Birmingham, Ala.: nine grandchildren, Marnett, Marvin II, Raymond, Shameka, Dewayne, Marvida, Matthew, Kenya and Tamia; four brothers, Rev. Richard Smith (Barbara) of Detroit, Mich., Robert Smith of Houston, TX., Christopher Smith (Dorene) of Ypsalanti, Mich., Mike Smith (Dorsie), Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two sisters, Bertha Knox (Eliga) of Akron, Ala., and Martha Jane Lee (Odell) of Brunswick, Ga.; five brothers-in-law, Rev. Thomas Linton (Pearl) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Readus Linton (Channie) of Birmingham, Ala., Henri Linton (Hazel) of Pine Bluff, Ark., Rev. John B. Linton (Barbara) of Houston, TX, McKenzie Linton (Amanda) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and two sisters-in-law, Maggie of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Willie Jean Linton of Tuskegee, Ala; two aunts, Pearline Williams and Teresa Madison of Havana, Ala.; one uncle, George W. Smith of Havana, Ala.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mary Ann (Ford) Thuesen

TUSCALOOSA - Mary Ann (Ford) Thuesen, 65, 127 30th St., died May 30, 2002 in California. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Rev. Jimmy Garner officiating. Visitation is today from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to service at the funeral home. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by her parents. George H. and Margaret Ford; grandparents, Lem and Ida Willis and George W. and Sarah Ford; son, Dana Thuesen.

Survivors include her husband, Chris L. Thuesen; son, George D. Thuesen (Rebecka); sister, Joy Alford (Lynch); brother, William Beard (Montez, wife); grandchildren, Jordan, Ryan, Scott and Katie.

Honorary pallbearers are friends of Skyland Blvd. Baptist, friends from Cherrydale Subd., Drs. R. McCormack, M. Hammett and N. Krisnamurthy.
